As a Korean that watched the film, I totally understood why she was asking those questions because I also had tons of questions after watching it. It is a film that really makes us think hard for a very long time. It is a wonderful film and this female interviewer hit the home runs with her great questions.
Choi Woo Sik went to school in Canada so I think his English is pretty good. I’ve always really liked his acting and felt he is underrated. So happy for him that he’s getting a lot of recognition.
Snowpiercer probably would have gotten more recognition in America specifically if Harvey Weinstein hadn't purposefully suppressed it. It was supposed to get wide theatrical release and was starring one of the biggest rising (at the time) stars in Hollywood (Chris Evans), but Weinstein got mad that he couldn't control Bong and put it on Netflix and DVD/Blu-ray instead of in theaters. That was back when a Netflix release was the same as straight to video. Now, if that would have happened, Snowpiercer would still be one of the biggest films of the year.

Finally south korean movies getting the well deserved praise and attention No one can deny the fact that their movie quality if not more definitely not less than hollywood. The story setting script editing evrrythibg is always on point
Its so funny that the so called "whos who" of Hollywood are suddenly falling over South Korean cinema while Song Kang Ho is probably already one of the greatest actors in the world not just South Korea...The Host/Memories of Murder/JSA/Snowpiercer/Thirst/A Taxi Driver/Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and many more such gems where is hauntingly memorable. He hooked me on to South Korean cinema..not gonna lie.
he is true legend in korea. he won the best actor award three times at the biggest movie awards ceremony in Korea. Funny thing is, none of these three awards are from Park Chan-wook and Bong Joon-ho films.

@@NaFran49 funny because i did not mention american tv shows as they too have a lot of trashy scenarios what i meant is a lot of Kdramas, not ALL, but a lot of them just have a terrible acting that pulls me away from the good story which is a shame tbh because they do have some great stories
That young boy actor (Korean -Canadian) in real life is shy and have difficulty with comments in his Korean interviews and sadly it shows through in his English interviews. I admire his courage to venture out of his comfort zone but a little more preparation and training is in store for him. 화이팅.
Michael Lim I noticed that too. He's trying though. And he doesn't seem to hesitate to speak in English during the interviews. With more prep and experience, he'll be fine over time.
I feel like he isnt really good with words.....like me...im Korean American and im somehow terrible in both languages. Like I think in both Korean and English and sometimes I find myself speaking in a language that I am not thinking in. So then I have to do a second translating process in my head and that gets me all mixed up.

Choi woo sik is such an underrated actor. I feel like all the actors/actress from parasite got some recognition except for him. Like all korean award ceremonies invites all the main cast except him, which is mind boggling.
I am an interpreter myself and we mostly work behind the scenes. It's good to see the interpeter lady in front of the screen, being known to public, and appreciated. Working as interpreter is a tough job cause sometimes you get lost on who you really are and what you really think as an individual because we don't bring that to our job. Sorry for preaching. I am just happy that I am "represented" and now I have a figure that I can look up to. 🙂
For the Parasite cast... I didn't know that older woman/ajuma on the left understands/speaks some English. I love this. I really gotta improve on my language learning...
Female host and Interpreter Sharon Choi did a great job. Female host gave a quetion slowly for Sharon’s interpretation and Sharon’s interpretation was also perfect. Sometimes it’s hard to interpret Korean words to English. And it’s a good that the question wasn’t “What do you wearing today?” Dress brand doesn’t matter tho. Let the actress talking about their movie, acting, life.

lmao there were multiple times when the cast tries their hand at responding in English... then they give up half way and turn to the translator and finish their response in Korean.
As a Korean, I believe that the inequality in S. Korea feels much intensified because of unique social issues in S. Korea (degree inflation, competitive culture, etc); partially described in the movie. The new book called “South Korea: Price of Efficiency & Success” is great to read.
The translator deserves to get more raise. She has translating it for everyone in the casts alone since they arrived at Cannes.
She will get more gigs later anyway.

As a Korean, I believe that the inequality in S. Korea feels much intensified because of unique social issues in S. Korea (degree inflation, competitive culture, etc); partially described in the movie. The new book called “South Korea: Price of Efficiency & Success” is great to read.
