I just got my first piercing after many years and that sterile saline spray feels so much better than all the crazy stuff they had us doing back in the day! I love all your videos, please keep it up.
Using saline spray only really makes the most sense to me. There is no need for direct contact, which irritates the piercing, or risk contaminating it with a non-sterile substance. My piercer, who is actually a very well-known reputable piercer in my area, told me to wash my navel piercing twice daily with soap. I did that for about a week and a raw, red, itchy rash appeared all around the piercing until I stopped. I use NeilMed's wound wash ONLY now and I feel great. What you said makes absolute sense to me -- unless you're rolling around in the dirt, your piercing isn't going to get so dirty that it needs washed twice daily. Has anyone else had this experience with soap? I'd also be interested in what Scott would have to say on this. Love your channel!
It's so refreshing to hear this! I'm really bad at aftercare, I usually give up by day 3 haha. Most I do now is just let water hit it while showering. The only one I took care of was my septum a few weeks ago, and that was strictly because it went through cartilage, it was excruciating to even touch, and I knew if it got infected I would have to pull it out, which terrified me haha.
I know this comment is a bit older now but you know your septum shouldn't go through cartilage right? It should be through the "sweet spot" which is just skin and should feel similar to heal to a lobe piercng.
@@IssieAndLife was about to say the same my septum did not hurt at all as it was pierced in the correct spot! I feel so bad for the op they wanna get a better pircer
@@teamholmez86 there are so many badly placed septum piercings about :( mine did hurt even though it's in the sweet spot, but then I also found lobes hurt more for me than most people describe.
I am pretty simple with mine and they have all healed well. Keep the area round it clean, especially with my hair around ear piercings. Rinse it with clean water. If it bleeds I make my own saline rinse and use kitchen towel. Otherwise it’s hands off. After a couple of weeks I start turning it just to make sure it doesn’t stick, but clean hands and minimal contact
i was told to use saline spray once a day to clean if there was anything around the wound. i’ve had my septum and nostril for about a week now and they’re healing amazing !!
Hey Scott, I definitely go to your videos for answers to my piercing questions more than anybody else's. You really know what you're talking about and what you say makes a lot of sense. My question is, how long should I be focusing on cleaning the piercing the first three months the first six months is there a rule to that?
I definitely overdid my aftercare the first time. Cotton fibers too. It took months and months to heal. I had to let it go and get it redone. Second time around I just cleaned off the crusties and healed up in no time.
Something that’s not brought up about oils, whether tea tree oil or various essential oils- many are not manufactured, tested or labeled for use on skin and are little more then synthetic fragrance and oil. There are therapeutic grade essential oils available, but you won’t find them in local retailers. So if you use the bottle of tee tree oil that you picked up at Walmart on your healing piercing, you’re risking infection and tissue damage.
I use sterile saline twice a day on my navel and septum (both are fairly new) and once a day on my nipples (healed). For the first week on my navel and septum I was actually doing a sea salt soak that felt so good, but only doing it long enough to get the crusty stuff outta there. Thanks for the info Scott!
@@cx4520 4 teaspoons of pure sea salt into a gallon of distilled water. I poured out a cup of the distilled water into a clean measuring cup, put it in the microwave, got it boiling, slowly added some of the salt in, let it cool, then poured it back into the gallon jug.
@@cassiewright9191 If I don’t have a distilled water can I use water that i’ve boiled in a kettle? It sterilises the water as it’s super hot and then If i let it cool down and add a pinch of salt do you think that’ll be okay?

Hi diabetic with an A1C of 6.0 which is controlled for me. How many times do I clean my new nose piercing? How long did your diabetic clients take? Also I wear glasses, makeup and use pur soap with said it was a piercing wash soap… should I stop using it? Also I now have the flu. How do I care for my piercing
Also how long do I keep using the after care spray? The outside of my nostril piercing looks clear but not a clue what is going on inside? When do I stop?
Hi Scott! So I had my nose pierced with a stud September last year, December I decided I wanted to change to a hoop so went to my local piercing place (I know....hindsight I probably shouldn't have been such an eager beaver to change it). In order for me to be able to have a hoop the piercer had to use a needle to drop the hole down slightly or make the hole bigger where I had my stud piercing to fit the hoop as it was snug. The hoop pierced hole has healed perfectly however I keep getting a spot reappear slightly above the piecing in the same place consistently (3 times to be exact ha) I'm cleaning the piercing twice a day although that could be over cleaning like you say. What would be your advice to make sure this spot above my piercing stays away ideally forever?? I get married in May and the sheer thought and horror of having a huge spot there on the big day fills me with dread haha 😳😂
Me again 😂 so I believe I have found a solution...I'm using clean and clear rapid advantage gel on the spot above the piercing to keep it at bay. So far it is working really really well and actually healing and preventing it from coming back. Cross those fingers for me please 😂🤞this bride may just be spot free for the day ha!
First does your mouthwash contain alcohol? If so even once a day could be to harsh. Even though 3 times a day is a lot even for the gum, and remember don't brush your teeth or use mouthwash directly after your meal, rince your mouth with water then wait like 20 to 30 min to wash it
i take a good care for like a week after doing it, and then laeving it alone only getting crusties sometimes + if i touched it multiple times, i use a little octanisept and my 14 piercings never got infected, even when i was on izotek xD
