Thank you for getting me an early build so I can enjoy it and show it off. I hope it helps the game get some more attention and wishlist clicks. You've made a fantastic game.
A lot of folks started out around then with Tiger Heli being one of their first games. It was really popular at the time from what I remember. A brutal game to start with but also a big deal at the time. We're the same age though maybe didn't grow up in the same place. Gunvein is going to be sweet and if you already know you want it from the vid, I doubt you'll be disappointed. It's already a blast to play.
I really want to thank you again for featuring Operation STEEL! The community has been so amazing and supportive, I'm so happy that people are actually playing and enjoying the game :) Now that the game has been released I have been able to relax a little and dig into games that I haven't got around to playing yet. #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting
It's nice when your hard work is finally done and you see people really enjoying what you did. That's how I feel after some of my longer, more involved videos. So I can imagine what it's like with the massive investment on the game. I wish it a lot of success and was glad to highlight it. I try to take a little time to relax and enjoy some games too on Sundays after a new vid. You're IN for the two prizes. And I forgot to mention, I haven't forgotten about the last video and the Kyu tiger prizes. I'm going to make sure both you guys get one. It will take a little time since it has to travel through Japan for the all important signature, but I've got packages going out there. And your game will be part of it.
Super important note on Gunvein, the lead designer of the gameplay is Boghog, the man behind astra! So yeah it s going to be on another level gameplay wise
Yeah I mentioned that in the video too, he's the main dude and you can tell. BTW if you didn't notice, I gave you a quick shout in the Grand Cross segment and linked to your review in my description.
Thanks for the shoutout about Sophstar to your audience! To be honest, thanks for bringing such quality information to the shmuposphere! All the games here look amazing, and I'm glad we're living such a great time for the shmups/arcade scene! #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting #BallsofSteel #BlastmetotheMoon
Yep! The dev is heavily influenced by those games. The previous game Raging Blasters was just as good in that sense and a really cool game. A lot of people really enjoyed it.
This year is promissing! After decades almost only playing Adventures and RPGs, I really did missed playing shmups in game centers. Finding this channel was the best thing, you showed me a lot of cool games I was missing! #BlastmetotheMoon #BallsofSteel #ClassicShooting #GrandCrossFever
That's awesome to hear and I'm really glad my work has helped. I used to play a ton of adventure and rpgs too, but the last decade has really taken my free time. So the short, arcade style games are perfect for me until I can retire. Just added you for the giveaways!
All us fans keeping it alive. Supporting the indie devs making these sick games for us. Definitely going to do my part to keep them hyped and moving forward.

Gunvien is looks fantastic going to be getting that day 1, there a lot off great looking games in your video i think you have just lightend my wallet for this year.
Sophstar looks really nice! Also, Bushiden is my most anticipated retro arcade game this year. It's driving me crazy how bad I want that game! Great list Junkie! #ClassicShooting
I've been anticipating it as well since I first saw it! So I do hope Bushiden is out soon. Sophstar is good yeah, you'll dig it if you grab it once it releases soon this month. I just added you for the giveaway! Maybe you'll be the lucky winner.
I had the luck of being one of the testers of Moon Dancer before release and I can say the final result is fantastic. Loads of fine tuning applied to it to improve its mechanics and flow as well as the aids to help recovery from death for newer players not used to checkpoints (and to me the most damaging point of older checkpoint based STGs), and yeah, what an awesome OST! Heavily recommended. Grand Cross Renovation caught me absolutely by surprise. I've found it's actually a Sega Saturn Dezaemon project that was 20 years in the making so gotta add it to the list, along Alltynex2nd, RefleX and Hellsinker as one of the longest developing STGs around. What a visual and aural assault with one heck of a sleek presentation and superb OST, so good! Judging by the dev's comments, some work and updates are still being done and either way, thankfully we get a sequel a bit sooner, heh! Amazing list, a lot I had missed too that I'm promptly wishlisting on Steam!
Terarin always made great use of good play testers and am glad you got to contribute. His games always feel great to play and that's a big part of it. Something more indie devs should do and put more focus on. He's already working on his next shmup already! He never stops. It's crazy Grand Cross has been in the works for so long, yet nobody really expected it's release. Kind of surprised us all.
I created a JPN Account only for raging blasters and when i installed IT IT was in German , i Wonder why ITS allready translated but Not Here in EU Shop. ( I live in Germany Europe) . So anyway i dont bother translations ,Most Times they löst meaning ....so i rather Play original or english anyway ....
Gunvein looks awesome, looking forward to that game. Iron Meat is made by Ryan’s dev team from Talk About Games podcast with Mike Matei, also looks sweet!
So many impressive games, can’t wait to play Getsu Fuma Den, Iron Meat, Bushiden, Dead End city and Jitsu Squad!! For all tastes and flavors!! Another top notch video my friend, now I am more worried about the backlog LOL! 🙌🏻
I'm so excited for Gunvein! NGDev are my fav! I agree with you on the absence of their incredible pixel artwork but it still looks beautiful and you can still see the NGDev fingerprint, no doubt!👾👾👾
Funny, the Sophstar demo felt like a Compile games. But playing the final version, it feels a lot more like a Toaplan game. Though the nod to Zanac in the first mid boss is awesome.
It's got homages all around, but you're right. It's an interesting mix of various styles and it's own unique flavor. But it definitely feels like a classic with some really fast bullets, though also a lot of them!
The gameplay is so so good, I can't wait for the entire game. Boghog is really kicking butt with his contribution to the game. Between his involvement and the usual good work by NGDev it's going to be sweet.
So many awesome games in this video. Bushiden and Jitsu Squad look amazing. Just take my money. Love those bullet hell games too, sadly I'm not a kid anymore. My brain and reflexes are shot to hell now.
You and me both. I can’t fly by the seat of my pants anymore and need more practice and memorization for most. I’m really looking forward to Bushiden and hoping it ends up as good as it looks.
I like the different takes on the Contra series, but NOTHING beats CONTRA III: THE ALIEN WARS for the Super Nintendo! The graphics and sound are damn near perfect. The one for the Wii, Contra Rebirth and Contra 4 are also great as well. The two NES games are right up there with Contra III.
Icarus got me playing Grand Cross Renovation and it's extremely sick. It's like the rebellious Rock 'n Roll lovechild of RSG and Hellsinker and I love it.
Glad to see new games. Sophstar was by far My favourite. It looks like a combination of classic shoot em up and bullet hell. Never awake hás a coll game mechanics. Combining dual sticks with shoot em up is a great ideia.
That’s awesome to hear! To be frank I find many of these games to be even better than the new Sol cresta which shows how great indie games have become. I hope it does well long term as it deserves the accolades. They put so much content into it.
Thanks for doing this list! So many "best upcoming games" lists are just the usual heavy hitter, but every game on this list was something that I never heard of before AND looked AMAZING! Gunvein in particular looks fantastic, gonna pick that up despite it being way way above my skill level, haha.
Yeah, I'm hoping this video can crack some of those top 2022 game search results for people. And help show these great arcade style games versus what most of those videos are usually filled with. I try to make it exciting and show new viewers what they're missing.
It's so nice that games like these are still getting made, and thanks to you I can keep track of them because I don't have the time as I used to, to check all gaming news and upcoming releases. Great video !
That's why I make these. To help get the word out on the more obscure releases and connect the devs with the players. So many awesopme games that are missed out on from simply not knowing.
@@ShmupJunkie - hell yeah it is!!! I can’t wait to see your early Egret mini review. I’ve had one on pre order since day one in Japan AND I’m on the list with Strictly Limited. I truly can’t wait to get ahold of mine. Then we have the new Sega to look forward to this summer as well. I can barely keep up with this stuff!! What do you think of yours since you already got it? Should I keep those preorders? ;)
@@reagandow850 I’m actually still waiting on my sample and hoping it arrives soon. There was a bit of a delay on them going out. But I’ll know soon enough!
Schildmaid is awesome and I remember showing it twice in the last couple videos. Did you see the recent interview with them and Mark on Electric Underground? They made one heck of a cool game.
Good shmup lists! I follow a lot of these games on twitter and checked them out not too long ago! This shows that indie gaming has good games even though people say that indie games are just garbage which I always see people cry and complain about. In reality you just have to dig through the muck and see that there are gold out there when it comes to games in the indie market. Not all good games have to be AAA games. I do play AAA games but I also focus a lot on indie games because of lists like this! Nice!
Same here. Most of the best games I play end up being indie these days. I play less and less AAA stuff and find much of it uninteresting. Not all of course. I can’t wait for Elden Ring as Bloodborne was my favorite ps4 game the entire generation. But it’s rare these days vs all kinds of great indie games I look forward to like in this video.
I hope that they will add Coop in Iron Meat... as You said, Contra and Doom, it feels like home. 👽👍 And yeah, Shoot Em Ups from Sophstar till the end are the one I will definitely looking for and play them! Great video as always!!!
Nice one man. Quality Show. Many thanks for the Heads-Up - Eh, a quick vid on how to unlock the Shmup Junkie achievment in Operation S.T.E.E.L would be greatly appreciated 🙂
I think there isn't a single bad game in the video, but I loved Moon Dancer, I'm going to try it first, I love that type of graphics, and the shots reminded me a lot of the Soldier saga. Good video as always! a greeting🔥
Hey dude! What's going on good to see you here. Yeah, Moon Dancer is very much like the Soldier games. Have you ever played Raging Blasters before? It was the last game and also very much like the PC Engine Soldier games. It's a perfect difficulty on Expert mode for someone with your experience.
I've heard of it but not played it yet no. I did hear some good things and put it on my backlog to check out though. So thanks for the reminder as I was looking at it late last year.
I played Stellar Fury a bit. It's fun, definitely needs polishing. In particular I found that I was getting hit and didn't even know it bc there is little to no feedback when it happens.
Yes it’s very much a work in progress. It’s come a long way in the last several months. I think as long as the dev keeps taking all the community feedback to heart and refining it, it’ll get there. It’s got potential with a ways to go yet, but your fb is accurate.
Thanks for the feedback :). I assume you mean in mission mode - yes honestly mission mode is due for a round of polish. In arcade mode it should be pretty obvious that you get hit :)
Damn!! You weren’t playing when you said Gunvein was awesome, it looks insane and I can’t wait to check that out on release. Some absolute banging titles due this year which I have my name on already so thanks for this update. You are and always will be my go to guy for new and awesome shmups/action games so keep it up my man!! Great video and looking forward to the Egrett 2 mini review next 💪💪
Thanks man! Yeah, you will definitely love Gunvein once you have a chance to play it. No doubt about it. Game is just fun and hard to show in footage alone. Once you play it you'll know. Yep, time to get to work on that Egret video. That's another beastly amount of content lol.
@@ShmupJunkie and thanks for adding footage of Bushiden, be amazing to see this get a release this year as it looks super cool! ooh yeah. THE EGRETT 2!!!!! This a big deal for me as I want one but damn it’s expensive. Can’t wait to get your take man 👍
Jank is part of the experience. Sturmwind looks amazing, and its rare seeing a shmup with good setpieces these days. #ClassicShooting #BlastmetotheMoon
Definitely part of the experience with Sturmwind, but it makes up for it. I always dug that game when it came out on DC so I have a soft spot for it. I can only imagine the reception it would have gotten had it released during the DC's original run.
Thank you. I plan to do these every few months as a ton of new releases come out. It's good to update everyone on cool games they maybe never saw before.
Amazing games all around, thanks for getting me pumped for 2022! :) Do we get to hear the actual music of GunVein in the video or was that an awesome placeholder?
@@ShmupJunkie Whoa, so happy to hear that! Fast Striker and Razion have two of my all-time favorite soundtracks (Gunlord and Neo XYX are terrific as well) so it's great this will be the case here as well!
@@bemuparadise2384 The game is hit and miss as it was their first ever but Last Hope has an insanely good soundtrack too. Along with Gunlord. Really just about all NGDev games have sick music
@@ShmupJunkie True! I have Last Hope as well (not Pink Bullets tho) and played through it with a friend until 4 am one time. :) Good memories. Yeah, the soundtrack is great although a bit more understated maybe. Kraut Buster also has nice tunes, as you're probably already aware. :)
I’m so hyped for this year after watching this video! Thanks to you and Mark MSX, the genre is thriving! I especially can’t wait for more NG Dev stuff. Still waiting for Razion Ex to get re-stocked. #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting #BallsofSteel #BlastmetotheMoon
Dude, I love your videos, man. There's always many great games, you recommend for us. 🤩 GRAND CROSS: ReNOVATION, Sophstar and Moondancer, made me crazy! I'll buy all 3 of them. I put Grade Counter GM on my wishlist, too. I'm from Brazil and did not knew about Banana Bytes. Thanks a lot for your great work! You're awesome.
Again a year of many releases or so it would seem, i think Gunvein is definitely my fav from the list, but i'll definitely be checking out other games in there too, thanks for these Junkie, love these vids.
@@ShmupJunkie Very interested to see the finished product, looks very high quality, that lock on mechanic looked like a Crimzon Clover-ish thing to me, but i might be missing some deeper mechanics to tell. :D
Another awesome video! So many games, so little money! GUNVEIN looks and sounds awesome. Jitsu Squad looks great too (I love beat 'em ups!), and Never Awake's art style is pretty cool. Sturmwind looks awesome too, might have to pick up a digital copy. #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting
Iron Meat and Moon Dancer are the featured games that I am anticipating coming out of this video, as well as the old-school shooters in the montage. I can't do the danmaku shooters anymore; they just make me queasy and I don't really get that much enjoyment from them. Looking forward to the next video to see what is on that Taito unit; it says 40 games with another 10 via an expansion set. I wonder how much crossover there will be with the Taito Legends collections.
I'm also curious if Taito has any future plans for the SD card slot and game expansions for the unit versus it just being to add the 10 more or for updates. As that would be pretty cool and add more longevity to the unit. Maybe I'll find out. I'm looking forward to getting my sample to start testing!
@@ShmupJunkie The possible future expansion sets may be contingent on whether the platform sells well or not and they think that they have a steady stream of interested purchasers. I'll be most interested if there is enough games included that are not already on Taito Legends 1 and 2, although of course there are game from those collections that should be on this release also.
Excellent video, I haven't played an NG DEV Team game since Fast Striker and Gunlord on Dreamcast back in the day and GUNVEIN seems awesome, definitely gonna buy that. Also Sophstar looks sweet, and Grand Cross Renovation seems very cool! It gives me Radiant Silvergun vibes. Moon Dancer is definitely on my wishlist also, I've played the caravan mode on the demo and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's just a no frills well designed shmup. Props to all those indie devs that are keeping the shmup genre alive with imaginative new games, and to you for showing the world! #GrandCrossFever #BallsofSteel #ClassicShooting #BlastmetotheMoon
You're welcome and I hope you enjoy any you do end up picking up. If I don't help get the word out on these sweet games, they won't do as well as they could and we won't get more. I want to keep these killer games coming long as possible and glad it's helping get the word out. Just added you to the giveaways as well.
A good problem to have I suppose. More games than we can handle. Dead End City does look cool and I'm sure in a future video I can show a lot more from a completed build and play it myself. I try to do 2-3 of these a year.
2022 looks like it's going to be off the chain! I haven't even heard of most of these games, though I already am enjoying Operation STEEL and Moon Dancer. Another great video! #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting
Terrarin is a genius.Got all his games thanks to finding out about the dev via your channel, and Moon Dancer is the best yet.. #ClassicShooting. Great vid as always!
I see his working on a horizontal shmup next in a similar style so looking forward to that as well. He never stops. Pumps one game out and on to the next, he's like a machine. And you're IN for Sophstar.
I'd love to get a playable demo for it but no dice, so looks like I'll be checking it out along with everyone else once it's out. Looking forward to it too.
Rho...thanks to share. Just during intro,I never seen these. I’m just on the Cotton rock,Kof 15,Battle axe, troubles witches.. Always happy to see new ’neo retro’ game. Jitsu,Never awake..I will take them ps4/steam. Also...Magical blaster..Pocky Rocky..Shinorubi..Andro Dunos 2 (maybe a Last resort 2,View point 2...♡).
Absolutely, all the innovation comes from smaller devs these days and it's great. I don't play newer AAA titles often any longer and wish we'd see more creativity from the big devs too.
Some great games coming in 2022 - would have been good if you mentioned what systems they were coming out on though. I didn't know which to really pay attention to. I know the one I wanted most, Sturmwind Ex, is only on switch and I only have xbox and playstation.
Awesome video as usual and thank you for showcasing many games I didn't know about. I'm glad NG:DEV is doing physical and digital releases at the same time. I'm also glad they are doing new games and not just ports of their previous releases. However, I hope they eventually port Kraut Buster to modern consoles. I'm tempted to enter all the giveaway codes but my laptop's crappy ATI AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card wasn't designed for gaming, so I gave up on Steam eons ago. I hope these games get eventually ported to modern consoles because they look sweet.
At the least, Gunvein is coming to all modern consoles so you'll have your shot there. I honestly have no guage on whether they ever plan to port Kraut Buster. Maybe it's way more work than they could potentially justify doing versus expected sales, but who knows. I'm glad they are going modern now so their games get out to a larger audience. I do love that old Neo Geo style and pixel art if they can replicate it using modern tools one day.
Sophstar sort of reminded me of Battle Bakraid. Reason why I love Battle Bakraid is because of the ship variety. Jitsu Squad - I hope that this game isnt disappointing. My experience with beat em ups are bad. Grand Cross Renovation - eh....... I'll just spend 10hrs in the demo.....maybe until I get one. Moon Dancer - I like that this game got less flickering compare to Raging Blaster. NeverAwake - get it!!
I never get into beat em ups much either, so we will see. I have hopes at least based on the demo so far. But for me a good beat em up experience always involves another couple friends.
Thanks for the video! I especially love the NG.Dev games, but I want to try them all! #ClassicShooting #BallsofSteel #BlastmetotheMoon #GrandCrossFever I look forward to more of your videos, Junkie!
Missed you, Junkie! Great content as always. Proud to see another brazilian game among the great ones, following the tradition of Blazing Chrome and others. #BlastmetotheMoon #BallsofSteel #ClassicShooting #GrandCrossFever
I've been saying it's a good problem to have haha. It's hard to explain but Iron Meat really feels like playing a Contra game, so it was like playing an old favorite only new. I'm looking forward to it.
I was really close to being able to show a lot of the opening stage for the game with a playable demo, but just couldn't get it in time to make it happen. But it sounds like it'll be ready and then some before I do another one of these in a few months. And I'll look forward to showing it more then.
Great video Junkie! Gunvein looks like a definite must buy! Sophstar and Moon Dancer are on my radar now too. #Blastmetothemoon #BallsofSteel #ClassicShooting #GrandCrossFever
Heh, I freaked out when I checked the video timeline for the names of the titles as saw 'Contra Reborn: IRON MEAT'. For a second I thought it was an official sequel to the Konami REBIRTH WiiWare remakes.
Lol, once you play it you'll agree. It may as well be another Contra, it just feels like it. If anything, probably much better a Contra game than Konami could put out these days. I just hope it gets done in the near future, as it's really fun so far.
Yeah, I'm much more into platformers and games like Iron Meat. I don't mind beat em ups, but I usually have to play them with a couple more people. That's when they really come into their own.
What a fantastic list. Indies will keep gaming alive long after the triple A publishers and studios eat each other. Schmups are life. I do hope many of these titles make it to switch. I like gaming on the go and games like grand cross would be perfect. Here’s hoping 🤞
I do know a lot will make it to Switch or will be from the start like Gunvein. Terarin will likely port moon dancer to switch if it does well like he did with raging blasters. So I think the better something like grand cross sells on Steam, the higher chance it gets ported. However it depends on the tools they used to make it. Some are easy to port while others are extremely hard, pretty much a complete reprogram which is why it never happens.
This is a really nice selection of games that I never knew existed besides Moon Dancer. Love your work and it helped me get back into shmups and loving them! #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting #BallsofSteel #BlastmetotheMoon
I was a bit skeptical of Bushiden at first, but it seems to be coming along quite well. Reminds me of a similar game in the works by the developer of Blazing Chrome called Moonrider. Looks to be a cross of Shinobi 3 and Hagane, really stoked for that one. #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting #BallsofSteel #BlastmetotheMoon
I'm definitely excited based on just the footage I've seen. I don't know when it's slated for release but I'm looking forward to it. Just added you for the codes as well.
I'll be curious on your thoughts once you do. I want it to be good, but the footage also was hit and miss for me so far. So I am being cautiously optimistic. At least we can expect great music!
Thank you for highlighting these games! I was not aware of many of them. Jitsu Squad has very impressive art and I like the idea of fighting game controls in a brawler. Grand Cross's laser that destroys bullets is cool. And Balls of Steel having rogue-like elements in a schmup is intriguing. Finally, that game you briefly showed at the end, GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon, wow, what an art style. #GrandCrossFever #ClassicShooting #BlastmetotheMoon #BallsofSteel
You're welcome and it's the main reason I make vids like these. These games honestly all are more interesting to me than many of the AAA stuff coming out, though there are a few I like there as well. I'm glad to introduce you and a bunch of others to them and hopefully it helps the devs who worked so hard on them to make some money... and in turn make more games. I'd love to see this train keep going. Just added you for the giveaways as well.
I couldn't do it all without my awesome discord community. Whenever I do a vid like this everyone pitches in with their games and ideas. Videos like this wouldn't be the same without the community to help.
What were some of the shmups with longer levels back in the late 80s early 90s. Blazing lazers was pretty long, so was Wings of Wor. Does anyone remember some especially long ones?
As for Beat'm Ups, I have been playing Streets of Rage X. I wish Sega would make a SoR game like River City with lots of RPG elements. Also I wish Behemoth would revisit Castle Crashers u_u
Terarin's a great dev. You can tell he loves Image Fight, both Raging Blasters and Image Striker pay homage to the Irem classic. Also, the second Terarin game : Missile Dancer is excellent too! Do we know if Moon Dancer's coming to Switch? Have a look online and you'll be able to find an APK for his first game Image Striker for Android.
We don’t know if it’ll be on Switch or not but most likely based on how well it does on Steam. Since RB came to Switch I imagine he likes doing it for the games that make sense. It was cool seeing it with the updated visuals that way too.
We are the developers of Sophstar.
Thank you for showing our game and for the real kind words. We hope people will enjoy the game :)
Thank you for getting me an early build so I can enjoy it and show it off. I hope it helps the game get some more attention and wishlist clicks. You've made a fantastic game.

Yep. Going to buy both PS4 and Switch
Only double dip with protection though. Might be crappy.

@@brentgreeff1115 probably a bit of both! lol
Thanks for covering all these amazing games!! Added most of them to my wishlist!
Gunvien is looks fantastic going to be getting that day 1, there a lot off great looking games in your video i think you have just lightend my wallet for this year.
Lol... at a minimum you won't go wrong with Gunvein. That game is just fantastic feeling to play. It'll be a travesty if that game isn't a hit.
@@ShmupJunkie it's this available on Steam / PC yet?
Sophstar looks really nice! Also, Bushiden is my most anticipated retro arcade game this year. It's driving me crazy how bad I want that game! Great list Junkie! #ClassicShooting
I've been anticipating it as well since I first saw it! So I do hope Bushiden is out soon. Sophstar is good yeah, you'll dig it if you grab it once it releases soon this month. I just added you for the giveaway! Maybe you'll be the lucky winner.
@@ShmupJunkie I look forward to your review / impressions of Bushiden :) Thank you my friend!
@@ShmupJunkie , so I take it that Stellar Fury, Magical Blasters, and Andro Dunos 1 and 2 are not Steam/PC titles?
@@paxhumana2015 it’s definitely PC that’s how I played the demo.
Lol, the backlog never ends buddy. It's a good problem to have I suppose. It's good to see you here and glad you were able to catch up a bit.
@@ShmupJunkie LOL. I also forgot to mention that Iron Meat intro is also a homage to Rush’n Attack, marvelous!!
@@unlimitedretrogaming You’re right! I didn’t even notice that part. What a cool homage.
As a big fan of both Fast Strikers and Razion Ex I'm really looking forward to Gunvein!
Sophstar and NeverAwake look fantastic!! As always, fantastic work on the vid!!
And they are! Sophstar will be out really soon on Steam so you'll be able to play that soon or whenever you choose.
Sophstar is really great and also out very soon. So not long to wait until you can play it.
Mostly because of your recommendation I am playing Sophstar and loving it! It is fantastic. I hope you find more time to talk about it.
That’s awesome to hear! To be frank I find many of these games to be even better than the new Sol cresta which shows how great indie games have become. I hope it does well long term as it deserves the accolades. They put so much content into it.
Killer selection, man. I knew about Sophstar, but the trailer didn't do it justice for me. The way you explain it makes me very hype for it!
Did you see our new trailer? :)
@@bananabytes9670 I did, actually. That one was really good!
WALLET NOOOOOOOOO - Awesome preview video - time to load up the wishlist, people!!!
I knew you'd talk about Moon Dancer soon. I'm enjoying it as much as Raging Blasters!
Yep, and it's so similar it feels just as good. He's been working on a horizontal shmup already for the next one.
I love Beat Em Ups like SOR2 TMNT Turtles in Time Arcade
The one thing that ALWAYS makes my Sunday’s better.....A new video from the Shmup Junkie!! Yeah baby!!! Thanks brother. 💪💪💪💪💪

These all look great...Never Awake ill definitely get ive been starved of that kind of game since Natsume's incredible Omega V
It is great and I think you'll enjoy Never Awake. It has a TON of missions too so there will be a lot of content.
Great video as usual. I've only miss remarks about Schildmaid MX. Congrats!
Man, im diggin' this channel, keep it up!
Doing my best! And thank you. I enjoy making these previews of lesser known games.
Loved the editing and presentation of this video. Really awesome, and gave me lots of new games to add to my wishlist!
I hope that they will add Coop in Iron Meat... as You said, Contra and Doom, it feels like home. 👽👍 And yeah, Shoot Em Ups from Sophstar till the end are the one I will definitely looking for and play them! Great video as always!!!
New information about Gunvein is highly appreciated. I will definitely check the game out.
I'm very much looking forward to the final game as well. I may even be able to do a dedicated review for it once the time comes.
Nice one man. Quality Show. Many thanks for the Heads-Up - Eh, a quick vid on how to unlock the Shmup Junkie achievment in Operation S.T.E.E.L would be greatly appreciated 🙂

@@ShmupJunkie Yep for sure lol
I think there isn't a single bad game in the video, but I loved Moon Dancer, I'm going to try it first, I love that type of graphics, and the shots reminded me a lot of the Soldier saga. Good video as always! a greeting🔥
Hey dude! What's going on good to see you here. Yeah, Moon Dancer is very much like the Soldier games. Have you ever played Raging Blasters before? It was the last game and also very much like the PC Engine Soldier games. It's a perfect difficulty on Expert mode for someone with your experience.
WOW, quite a few games I hadn't heard about that I now have marked on steam!
Your videos are incredible!! You deserve millions of subscribers. They are all so interesting and informative. Much love from the UK
Scrolling sci-fi shooters are as much fun to look at as they are to play; be it a game from 1982 or a game from 2022.
Great video!
Hey, in the topic of Beat'em-ups, have you tried Fight n' Rage, it gave me the same impression you describe here with Jitsu Squad.
I've heard of it but not played it yet no. I did hear some good things and put it on my backlog to check out though. So thanks for the reminder as I was looking at it late last year.
Wow, these look great. I hope you'll find to review them when they release!
The ones that end up being fantastic I definitely will. I can already see that Gunvein is going to be worth a dedicated video.

Thanks man! Yeah, you will definitely love Gunvein once you have a chance to play it. No doubt about it. Game is just fun and hard to show in footage alone. Once you play it you'll know. Yep, time to get to work on that Egret video. That's another beastly amount of content lol.

Great video. Very informative. I am looking forward to this future releases. Keep up your good work.
Thank you. I plan to do these every few months as a ton of new releases come out. It's good to update everyone on cool games they maybe never saw before.
@@ShmupJunkie That sounds great.😃
Amazing games all around, thanks for getting me pumped for 2022! :) Do we get to hear the actual music of GunVein in the video or was that an awesome placeholder?
That was the actual music from Gunvein! I always use the game’s real music and it’s going to be a banger of a soundtrack.
@@ShmupJunkie Whoa, so happy to hear that! Fast Striker and Razion have two of my all-time favorite soundtracks (Gunlord and Neo XYX are terrific as well) so it's great this will be the case here as well!

Again a year of many releases or so it would seem, i think Gunvein is definitely my fav from the list, but i'll definitely be checking out other games in there too, thanks for these Junkie, love these vids.
In terms of straight up gameplay it was my favorite too. It's hard to show by the footage, but it's just damn fun to play.

Totally just saw Maximilian Dood in Jitsu Squad!
haha yeah that is Max Dood in there, using his dog for a huge blast! They made a big deal about having him in the game.
I loved this video, so many games I had no idea about!
Really glad it was helpful for you. It’s why I try to do 2-3 of these per year as an update since new announcements happen so frequently.
Dont mind me, just listening to the preview of Exemia's new album, which will come bundled with a game. GUNVEIN looks really good though!
Amazing video, dude. Thanks for the recommendos.

Indie games are awesome! Unique, inovative, some nostalgic from old style games, Nice
Good point, I need to note to do a better job with that in the future. It's not always clear what consoles or Steam only the games are.
Gunvein!!!! This looks awesome!
Grand Cross is already on my list.
And Soph Star #ClasdicShooting
🙂
Thanks for the heads-up!! 💯
No prob dude. Glad you could find some new stuff in here you may not have known about yet.

So many good games, so little time. I wish I could make some space to play them all, specially the run and gun games look sick.
I've been saying it's a good problem to have haha. It's hard to explain but Iron Meat really feels like playing a Contra game, so it was like playing an old favorite only new. I'm looking forward to it.
Also excited for dead end city. I love pixel licker for the slayin series. I wonder what they’ll do for a shmup
And the good news is Gunvein will be hitting every platform! Just added you for the giveaways.
If you're not a beat em up fan,I would ABSOLUTELY reccomend Streets of Rage 4.
Iron Meat has my attention
Absolutely sweet selection yeah. And glad it helped introduce you to some you didn't know. You're IN for the giveaways too and good luck!
So many shmups, so little time! I'll certainly tackle Sol Cresta when it's out.
So many beautiful games! You’re well informed!👍
I couldn't do it all without my awesome discord community. Whenever I do a vid like this everyone pitches in with their games and ideas. Videos like this wouldn't be the same without the community to help.
Oh shit! A new Pocky & Rocky game! That’s surprising
I’m surprised you hadn’t seen trailers for it yet. They’ve been hyping it for a while now. But yeah a lot of people are looking forward to it.
What were some of the shmups with longer levels back in the late 80s early 90s. Blazing lazers was pretty long, so was Wings of Wor. Does anyone remember some especially long ones?
Anything Compile had long stages. Super Aleste comes to mind especially.
Good stuff as always! Love these videos to build up hype.
