And here we are! It may not be the mass adoption it had originally, but who knows. Maybe it'll keep growing, or maybe it'll just continue this way with a great underground and indie scene which I could live with. We are getting more than we can handle! And thanks for the shout on the caravan. The most fun had is often by the newest players having more fun than they expected and realizing how much they're improving.

I got started shmupping thinking it was a solitary affair to kill a few minutes after working night shift when I didn't have the time or energy for "real" games. After discovering the community during the Raging Blasters caravan, I realized how much more fun these games are when you tap into the social side.
Honestly, sometimes it's better when things stay underground. The mainstream has a knack for ruining everything. Reminds me of my pothead roommate who just plays Apex Legends all day but then one day I mentioned Steam and he had no idea what I was talking about. I wouldn't mind introducing him, but he just doesn't seem to have the attention span to ever really care about anything until it gets shoved in his face repeatedly. You get enough of those types into a community and next thing you know loot boxes and other corporate "everything needs mass appeal" nonsense will suddenly be "the norm" in your fandom. You'll end up with rainbow-haired activists arguing about how Sexy Parodius needs to be banned for being "demeaning" to women. I'm sorry if any of this sounds negative, but maybe I am just still coping from the horrendous Cowboy Bebop adaptation that had all the signs of being ruined by mainstream writers who just wanted quick money form an existing IP and don't really understand the fans or what makes it great.
Geez, so many titles! I have to admit, I've been tried to keep up with everything that is being released, but you're head and shoulders above me. As someone who got into shmups in the 80s it's great to see how many of these new games are going back to the 8 and 16 bit era classics for their inspiration.
Maybe they know their market and I'm all for it. I much prefer the style over even the modern polygonal look, which seems to have regressed with the lower budget games. Give me some beautiful 2D art any day.

"Year of the Shmup" - Seeing how everything has evolved and happened. I'm happy. This was the dream all along. Developers are releasing more and more shmups everywhere is a sign that the community has grown somehow. I also want to recommend Alex' game "Good Knight". Masterclass in design and production values. It deserves the praise. I also recommend Steel Assault, tough as balls and a game in a style we haven't seen in a long while. It's impressive to see what The Shield Maiden has done in such a little amount of time, I played the beta long ago but it seems like it has evolved A LOT. I'm also glad you covered Carina's game, that game should be played by ALL fans of Technosoft. Really deserves a playthrough. Hope you're well Junkie, it's been a great year for shmups, your efforts have helped that be the case.
Hey man, sorry for the late reply. Life has been busy and difficult these last few days for me as well. I agree that the more we are seeing, and hopefully if some show good sales numbers, it may slowly transform into larger releases by some developers that normally wouldn't. It sounds like Konami is looking to revive some of their classic franchises, so maybe we will see another Gradius programmed by a competent studio. You'll be impressed by how much progress was made with Schildmaid MX, even visually with the graphics and not just all the depth they've added in the gameplay. If you already enjoyed it you'll just like it even more. For Good Knight I was really impressed and I do hope his game gets the attention it deserves. And I hope this video and having it front and center will help with that.

They've been keeping our favorite genres alive while the big studios have moved on, so it's the least I and many of us can do. I think as shmup and arcade players we get it and don't think twice. But it's a bummer to see so many reviews, even on Steam saying that about the game. I don't blame them, it's what's expected by many these days and the state of gaming. They want it to fit the mold they expect and not looking to invest too much time in mastering and replaying a game. So they need the length for that single playthrough they will do and put it on the shelf, likely to rarely touch it again.

Heck yea, Astra is looking really cool and I already enjoyed the demo I played for it. I'm looking forward to featuring that one as it gets closer as it's looking to be pretty special.
One shmup you didn't highlight but that's worth talking about now is Demon Throttle from Doinksoft. It's due to drop in 2022, but it's PHYSICAL ONLY & Switch exclusive. So if anybody is interested in picking it up, it's only available for pre-order from Special Reserve Games through Nov 15. The 8-bit styled gameplay looks to be auto vertically scrolling & reminiscent of Pocky & Rocky with two-player couch co-op.
Seriously thanks for pointing out Hellblasters on here and in your Discord, especially mentioning the training mode and newbie friendliness. I've been wanting to learn to play a bullet hell and that game has been great!
Glad to hear it and I'm sure the dev appreciates the feedback. Once you've played it for a while, the best thing you can do is give the game a review on the Steam page to help it's exposure.
I was thinking the same thing on the whip, even the animation has similarities. It’s a great action game I recommend it to anyone long as a two player mode isn’t a must.

You'll have no problem with Zakesta, but once you get into the scoring it's a lot more tricky. Jaimers has a really good run of it with collecting all the secret blocks and not missing stage blocks. That's what I like about it actually. It's pretty accessible in terms of survival but more involved in terms of score... a lot like Kaikan in that way I guess by the same dev. Pearl was having a ball with that one for a while.
Of course, we are looking forward to it as always! I hope it gets a few more people to check out WoB that missed it in my old video. Feels like I made it so long ago.

I wasn’t impressed with the graphic style at first and early shots for RockNRoll but seeing arcade footage and the game in motion has changed my mind. I’m really looking forward to digging into it and playing as it looks really fun and unique.

Yeah, it's called Panorama Cotton and was on Mega Drive. Should be able to download it digital in the near future once it's out. Pretty amazing they even pulled it off so well on the system.

A new game from Terarin? I'm sold. Your coverage of Raging Blasters convinced me to buy this on Steam and it was the first game in maybe 20 years that I 1CC'd (yeah I know it was on Normal). You infectious enthusiasm for shmups has renewed my appreciation of them, and though I'm in no danger of ever getting to the top of any leaderboard, this year I've gotten into Dariusbursrt, G-Darius HD, Cotton Reboot, Crimzon Clover, Steredenn, Grand Brix Shooter, Project Starship X, Psyvariar Delta, R-Type Final, Raiden IV and V, Eschatos and as of 30 minutes ago, Techbeat Heart. It's all your fault :-)
It's a fault I will gladly take responsibility for! Being the shmup dealer is hard work. I'm with you on RB it's such a great game for anyone especially beginners or those new to the genre. He hit a really good sweet spot with the entry level difficulty and I'm hoping Moon Dancer is similar. I'm sure Lost Machine Games is appreciative you picked up Techbeat. The best thing you can do for them if you enjoyed it is leave a review once you've played it for a while.

Good Knight is so much fun... I really hope more people play and enjoy it. I would love to see it take off and find a large audience. Man the music is amazing, no surprise now knowing it's a Filipino based band. I swear everyone is born there with an automatic musical talent.
Hope it's turned out worthwhile for Live Wire to continue porting Cave games beyond what's been announced. I'd love to get Pink Sweets/Muchi Pork/Mushi Futari again and Ibara.
I hope so too as they're doing a great job porting the games that they are. A proper port of Pink Sweets vs the broken X360 port would be a great release.
Hey Junkie. Love the videos. After stumbling onto your channel, you have helped rekindle my love for shmups. When you mentioned how indie games are often the ones innovating, I couldn't help but think of a great little gem called Starr Mazer: DSP, wondering if you've ever had a chance to play it? Sadly, don't think it will ever get a full release but whats still kicking around on steam is pretty fun.
Just when I finished cleaning some of my Steam wishlist, here comes this upcoming list and, well, there we go, time to keep adding to the wishlist. Definitely looking forward to Moon Dancer since I actually got Raging Blasters thanks to this channel! Also saw that Taito put the Cozmic collection page on Steam as well, which I hope bodes well for a proper Ray series HD on modern platforms too since G-Darius HD was also announced for later this year. Maybe the Cave initiative that got truncated after Death Smiles also resumes. This has been one heck of a year for schmukmups!

When Covid was at peak I was getting a good handful of comments from others that they looked forward to videos on Sundays as a short escape from difficult times. And for me, simply working on them and enjoying the process was also an important escape from some difficult days.

The planet's health is persistent through the campaign, and while there will be a shooter only campaign mode, the mixture of these genres in base campaign mode is what we're most excited about. If you love old school platformers it certainly is, I wouldn't hesitate if you're thinking about it. It's really tough on arcade mode as well so it's got longevity in actually getting good.

You ain't kidding, even though I'm russian, Mexican is definitely my favorite food and we spice out our food like crazy along with some of my Indian friends. It's definitely part of everything here and I wouldn't have it any other way. Luckily I only had to fear the chancla when visiting some of my friend's homes haha.

Thanks for the recommendation on Hell Blasters; I don't know what it is about this game but I felt it was worth dropping the cash. My closest take is that it feels something like an NES version of Mars Matrix. I wish they could implement a medaling system to infuriate you while score items dropped down between a shower of bullets, but I think it would help perk up the game a little.
Haha not a bad idea. You should suggest it to the dev. The caravan is still going on my discord all week as well until this Sunday. If you do enjoy it overall, it really helps the dev to leave a review once you’re ready. It increases the visibility of the game to others. It’s the devs very shmup so even though it lacks some oomph like you said, it’s really well put together. So I have high hopes for his future games too.

Timmy is so lucky you were not wearing "las botas de combate". I just received my copy of Cotton 2, I was able to play through both games to completion, without any difficulties. However, I am not a pro shmup player, anywhere near your level of skill. If Chitty Wok has not fixed the performance problems, I am sure you will let everyone know. As always, thank you for the top quality videos.

@@ShmupJunkie I placed the game on pre-order 2 months ago and thought all was good, by the time I began to hear the complaints it was too late to stop the purchase. Either way, I am enjoying the game. P.S. If you have to use las botas de combate on Timmy, please use the lighter jungle boots. Timmy is not a bad guy.

OMG so good video, lots of cool shmups,I downloaded both Zakesta & Kaikan and tried em for a short while and it did not take me long before i knew they where awesome, Tech Heart Beat was just to nice looking and with a pumping hardcore soundtrack at that low price how could i not get it ^_^. must try Wings of Blue Star again after the updates. I will look forward to alot of the other cool shmups shown at the end.

Maybe one day it could be a thing, as I always found coop action platformers to be super fun. Goes back to the Contra days I guess and continues through Gunstar and beyond.
Same here, we are all hoping so. Won't be long before we find out. Maybe with all this bad press they may scramble to improve it much as possible prior to release... so they don't get the same backlash with it. LiveWire has already shown it can be done well for Cave ports so there's no excuses.

Glad you included Pocky and Rocky, a game I played loads when it was originally released many years ago and a brilliant 2 player on foot shmup I can’t wait to play again. I think I need to get myself a better PC as I feel I’m missing out on some of these indie shmups by some of the most talented programmers I’ve seen in a while. You hit the nail on the head saying AAA games lack innovation and it’s the awesome indie community that’s really owning shmups now.
The future of the indie scene is definitely on PC, as much as we enjoy the Switch ports too. It's more work for a limited life console release, whereas Steam can remain long term throughout generations. You shouldn't need a crazy PC to play most of these games, especially the indie games. I tried to do something funny and different for the interludes between videos, but most importantly yes, we want our ballsack back in Final! Save the Tofurkey for thanksgiving.

Ha, well the closest we are getting are the stages being remade slowly for Final 2 with the DLC. I'd love to see some more of those Delta stages remade, especially the one toward the end with the floating obstacles and rotating battleship. That's such a great stage design and gameplay wise.
Cotton Saturn tribute launched with lag? I didn’t even notice. In fact, I wasn’t even aware of the situation when it came about. I must’ve been lucky when I first played it on Christmas (I got it for a Christmas present, I played it just fine and obtained the plat on New Years Day) when I believe it got updated to fix the lag problem. Thank god for software updates!
It's almost the end of the year and Dodonpachi Resurrection still hasn't released digitally on the Switch. Been dying to finally play that game, let alone any title in the Dodonpachi series.

I have and it would be fun, I just don't have a free moment to do it without compromising the videos yet. It would increase the amount of time it takes to release new ones. I've tried to figure out a way to just live stream when I am playing some of the games and recording footage, so that may be a thing. My day is filled with distractions and I am constantly pausing the games to take calls or go handle stuff, then come back, so it would end up disruptive. But it would be fun if I could find a way to dedicate an hour on some days to it.
when i hear that heavy metal intro i realise that i don't care how bad you are at schmups but have to keep on playing because the soundtrack demands me too. thunderforce 4 was such...but you could also chyeat throught the game with infinte lifes. Good god that soundtrack.
I would be surprised if they did because it's so expensive to get parts and manufacture the carts, it would likely be for collectors. NGDev Team was doing that but it takes them forever to have them made from what I heard. But it could look beautiful in 240p on a CRT I give you that.
IRENA is still in development, it's not for sale yet. The Kickstarter supporters have access to early demos they release. But don't worry you didn't miss anything, you'll get a shot at it once it actually comes out.

This past year I've finally found a good source of new and upcoming games that I love, Shmup Junkie. For years I've been so disappointed watching E3 presentations and just seeing the game industry not reflecting any sorts of the games that I'm interested in. I'm so glad to see the return of shmups, action platformers, and other awesome 2D games. There was a dark period where 2D games were shunned by the west and I'm thrilled the see the return of 16-bit style Genesis/NeoGeo type games. :-D I'll definitely be picking up that sequel to Raging Blasters! I loved that game, I even 1 CC'd it on EXPERT :-)
ZPF looks fantastic. Really excited for it. But.....I wish they'd tone down the OTT rainbow-fannyness of those coins. To me they detract from the awesome artwork throughout the rest of the game. Hope they change that before release.
It does look great! As all Gryzor drawn games do. I didn't notice or think anything of the coins actually until you pointed them out since they are kind of small. At least not compared to the bonanza that happens on screen with more modern shmups.

And here we are! It may not be the mass adoption it had originally, but who knows. Maybe it'll keep growing, or maybe it'll just continue this way with a great underground and indie scene which I could live with. We are getting more than we can handle! And thanks for the shout on the caravan. The most fun had is often by the newest players having more fun than they expected and realizing how much they're improving.

I got started shmupping thinking it was a solitary affair to kill a few minutes after working night shift when I didn't have the time or energy for "real" games. After discovering the community during the Raging Blasters caravan, I realized how much more fun these games are when you tap into the social side.
Honestly, sometimes it's better when things stay underground. The mainstream has a knack for ruining everything. Reminds me of my pothead roommate who just plays Apex Legends all day but then one day I mentioned Steam and he had no idea what I was talking about. I wouldn't mind introducing him, but he just doesn't seem to have the attention span to ever really care about anything until it gets shoved in his face repeatedly. You get enough of those types into a community and next thing you know loot boxes and other corporate "everything needs mass appeal" nonsense will suddenly be "the norm" in your fandom. You'll end up with rainbow-haired activists arguing about how Sexy Parodius needs to be banned for being "demeaning" to women. I'm sorry if any of this sounds negative, but maybe I am just still coping from the horrendous Cowboy Bebop adaptation that had all the signs of being ruined by mainstream writers who just wanted quick money form an existing IP and don't really understand the fans or what makes it great.
Geez, so many titles! I have to admit, I've been tried to keep up with everything that is being released, but you're head and shoulders above me. Thank you for the highlight on the magazine, we're very proud of what we achieved. So proud the international release was confirmed, and yes, this is the first place I'm talking about it! As someone who got into shmups in the 80s it's great to see how many of these new games are going back to the 8 and 16 bit era classics for their inspiration.
Maybe they know their market and I'm all for it. I much prefer the style over even the modern polygonal look, which seems to have regressed with the lower budget games. Give me some beautiful 2D art any day.

"Year of the Shmup" - Seeing how everything has evolved and happened. I'm happy. This was the dream all along. Developers are releasing more and more shmups everywhere is a sign that the community has grown somehow.
I also want to recommend Alex' game "Good Knight". Masterclass in design and production values. It deserves the praise. I also recommend Steel Assault, tough as balls and a game in a style we haven't seen in a long while. It's impressive to see what The Shield Maiden has done in such a little amount of time, I played the beta long ago but it seems like it has evolved A LOT. I'm also glad you covered Carina's game, that game should be played by ALL fans of Technosoft. Really deserves a playthrough.

Hey man, sorry for the late reply. Life has been busy and difficult these last few days for me as well. I agree that the more we are seeing, and hopefully if some show good sales numbers, it may slowly transform into larger releases by some developers that normally wouldn't. It sounds like Konami is looking to revive some of their classic franchises, so maybe we will see another Gradius programmed by a competent studio. You'll be impressed by how much progress was made with Schildmaid MX, even visually with the graphics and not just all the depth they've added in the gameplay. If you already enjoyed it you'll just like it even more. For Good Knight I was really impressed and I do hope his game gets the attention it deserves. And I hope this video and having it front and center will help with that.

They've been keeping our favorite genres alive while the big studios have moved on, so it's the least I and many of us can do. I think as shmup and arcade players we get it and don't think twice. But it's a bummer to see so many reviews, even on Steam saying that about the game. I don't blame them, it's what's expected by many these days and the state of gaming. They want it to fit the mold they expect and not looking to invest too much time in mastering and replaying a game. So they need the length for that single playthrough they will do and put it on the shelf, likely to rarely touch it again.
You really do make Sundays special and something to look forward to. It's great seeing someone so passionate cultivating a community around arcade style games.

Heck yea, Astra is looking really cool and I already enjoyed the demo I played for it. I'm looking forward to featuring that one as it gets closer as it's looking to be pretty special.
One shmup you didn't highlight but that's worth talking about now is Demon Throttle from Doinksoft. It's due to drop in 2022, but it's PHYSICAL ONLY & Switch exclusive. So if anybody is interested in picking it up, it's only available for pre-order from Special Reserve Games through Nov 15.
The 8-bit styled gameplay looks to be auto vertically scrolling & reminiscent of Pocky & Rocky with two-player couch co-op.
Seriously thanks for pointing out Hellblasters on here and in your Discord, especially mentioning the training mode and newbie friendliness. I've been wanting to learn to play a bullet hell and that game has been great!

Wow, Steel Assault looks amazing! Gives me Gunstar Heroes vibes for sure, and that whip animation is totally Earthworm Jim.
I was thinking the same thing on the whip, even the animation has similarities. It’s a great action game I recommend it to anyone long as a two player mode isn’t a must.

You'll have no problem with Zakesta, but once you get into the scoring it's a lot more tricky. Jaimers has a really good run of it with collecting all the secret blocks and not missing stage blocks. That's what I like about it actually. It's pretty accessible in terms of survival but more involved in terms of score... a lot like Kaikan in that way I guess by the same dev. Pearl was having a ball with that one for a while.

I wasn’t impressed with the graphic style at first and early shots for RockNRoll but seeing arcade footage and the game in motion has changed my mind. I’m really looking forward to digging into it and playing as it looks really fun and unique.

Yeah, it's called Panorama Cotton and was on Mega Drive. Should be able to download it digital in the near future once it's out. Pretty amazing they even pulled it off so well on the system.

Your coverage of Raging Blasters convinced me to buy this on Steam and it was the first game in maybe 20 years that I 1CC'd (yeah I know it was on Normal).
You infectious enthusiasm for shmups has renewed my appreciation of them, and though I'm in no danger of ever getting to the top of any leaderboard, this year I've gotten into Dariusbursrt, G-Darius HD, Cotton Reboot, Crimzon Clover, Steredenn, Grand Brix Shooter, Project Starship X, Psyvariar Delta, R-Type Final, Raiden IV and V, Eschatos and as of 30 minutes ago, Techbeat Heart. It's all your fault :-)
It's a fault I will gladly take responsibility for! Being the shmup dealer is hard work. I'm with you on RB it's such a great game for anyone especially beginners or those new to the genre. He hit a really good sweet spot with the entry level difficulty and I'm hoping Moon Dancer is similar. I'm sure Lost Machine Games is appreciative you picked up Techbeat. The best thing you can do for them if you enjoyed it is leave a review once you've played it for a while.

Hey Junkie. Love the videos. After stumbling onto your channel, you have helped rekindle my love for shmups. When you mentioned how indie games are often the ones innovating, I couldn't help but think of a great little gem called Starr Mazer: DSP, wondering if you've ever had a chance to play it? Sadly, don't think it will ever get a full release but whats still kicking around on steam is pretty fun.
Just when I finished cleaning some of my Steam wishlist, here comes this upcoming list and, well, there we go, time to keep adding to the wishlist. Definitely looking forward to Moon Dancer since I actually got Raging Blasters thanks to this channel! Also saw that Taito put the Cozmic collection page on Steam as well, which I hope bodes well for a proper Ray series HD on modern platforms too since G-Darius HD was also announced for later this year. Maybe the Cave initiative that got truncated after Death Smiles also resumes. This has been one heck of a year for schmukmups!

When Covid was at peak I was getting a good handful of comments from others that they looked forward to videos on Sundays as a short escape from difficult times. And for me, simply working on them and enjoying the process was also an important escape from some difficult days.

If you love old school platformers it certainly is, I wouldn't hesitate if you're thinking about it. It's really tough on arcade mode as well so it's got longevity in actually getting good.

You ain't kidding, even though I'm russian, Mexican is definitely my favorite food and we spice out our food like crazy along with some of my Indian friends. Thanks for the recommendation on Hell Blasters; I don't know what it is about this game but I felt it was worth dropping the cash. My closest take is that it feels something like an NES version of Mars Matrix. I wish they could implement a medaling system to infuriate you while score items dropped down between a shower of bullets, but I think it would help perk up the game a little.
Haha not a bad idea. You should suggest it to the dev. The caravan is still going on my discord all week as well until this Sunday. If you do enjoy it overall, it really helps the dev to leave a review once you’re ready. It increases the visibility of the game to others. It’s the devs very shmup so even though it lacks some oomph like you said, it’s really well put together. So I have high hopes for his future games too.

I should try out the caravan more -- but I'm sure I can't compete with the super players on your discord! :) I just beat the easy mode on arcade--that was definitely too easy, but I'll need more practice for normal.
Preordered andro dunos for 3ds. Really looking forward to it. I know 2d games look stunning with the 3d effect on 3ds.
La chancla should be incorporated into one of these games as a special weapon upgrade. A bit overpowered though since it never misses.

Timmy is so lucky you were not wearing "las botas de combate". I just received my copy of Cotton 2, I was able to play through both games to completion, without any difficulties. However, I am not a pro shmup player, anywhere near your level of skill. If Chitty Wok has not fixed the performance problems, I am sure you will let everyone know. As always, thank you for the top quality videos.
I’m glad you were still able to enjoy and play through them. Once there is an update I’ll definitely be testing to see how much it’s been improved. If no good they’ll get las botas de combate!
@@ShmupJunkie I placed the game on pre-order 2 months ago and thought all was good, by the time I began to hear the complaints it was too late to stop the purchase. Either way, I am enjoying the game. P.S. If you have to use las botas de combate on Timmy, please use the lighter jungle boots. Timmy is not a bad guy.

OMG so good video, lots of cool shmups,I downloaded both Zakesta & Kaikan and tried em for a short while and it did not take me long before i knew they where awesome, Tech Heart Beat was just to nice looking and with a pumping hardcore soundtrack at that low price how could i not get it ^_^.
must try Wings of Blue Star again after the updates.
I will look forward to alot of the other cool shmups shown at the end.

I picked up Steel Assault and oh man, I could only imagine a 2p co-op mode. That would be incredible!
Maybe one day it could be a thing, as I always found coop action platformers to be super fun. Goes back to the Contra days I guess and continues through Gunstar and beyond.

Same here, we are all hoping so. Won't be long before we find out. Maybe with all this bad press they may scramble to improve it much as possible prior to release... so they don't get the same backlash with it. LiveWire has already shown it can be done well for Cave ports so there's no excuses.

Glad you included Pocky and Rocky, a game I played loads when it was originally released many years ago and a brilliant 2 player on foot shmup I can’t wait to play again.
I think I need to get myself a better PC as I feel I’m missing out on some of these indie shmups by some of the most talented programmers I’ve seen in a while. You hit the nail on the head saying AAA games lack innovation and it’s the awesome indie community that’s really owning shmups now.
The future of the indie scene is definitely on PC, as much as we enjoy the Switch ports too. It's more work for a limited life console release, whereas Steam can remain long term throughout generations. You shouldn't need a crazy PC to play most of these games, especially the indie games.
I tried to do something funny and different for the interludes between videos, but most importantly yes, we want our ballsack back in Final! Save the Tofurkey for thanksgiving.

Ha, well the closest we are getting are the stages being remade slowly for Final 2 with the DLC. I'd love to see some more of those Delta stages remade, especially the one toward the end with the floating obstacles and rotating battleship. That's such a great stage design and gameplay wise.
Cotton Saturn tribute launched with lag? I didn’t even notice. In fact, I wasn’t even aware of the situation when it came about. I must’ve been lucky when I first played it on Christmas (I got it for a Christmas present, I played it just fine and obtained the plat on New Years Day) when I believe it got updated to fix the lag problem. Thank god for software updates!

It's almost the end of the year and Dodonpachi Resurrection still hasn't released digitally on the Switch. Been dying to finally play that game, let alone any title in the Dodonpachi series.
I know a lot of stuff is still coming December so maybe it's around the same time. That's my best guess so far.

Great video as always. Have you ever considered doing some live streams or let's plays?
I have and it would be fun, I just don't have a free moment to do it without compromising the videos yet. It would increase the amount of time it takes to release new ones. I've tried to figure out a way to just live stream when I am playing some of the games and recording footage, so that may be a thing. My day is filled with distractions and I am constantly pausing the games to take calls or go handle stuff, then come back, so it would end up disruptive. But it would be fun if I could find a way to dedicate an hour on some days to it.
when i hear that heavy metal intro i realise that i don't care how bad you are at schmups but have to keep on playing because the soundtrack demands me too. thunderforce 4 was such...but you could also chyeat throught the game with infinte lifes. Good god that soundtrack.
Steel Assault is perfect neogeo mvs arcade game. Developer should considering porting the game to MVS!
I would be surprised if they did because it's so expensive to get parts and manufacture the carts, it would likely be for collectors. NGDev Team was doing that but it takes them forever to have them made from what I heard. But it could look beautiful in 240p on a CRT I give you that.

This past year I've finally found a good source of new and upcoming games that I love, Shmup Junkie. For years I've been so disappointed watching E3 presentations and just seeing the game industry not reflecting any sorts of the games that I'm interested in. I'm so glad to see the return of shmups, action platformers, and other awesome 2D games. There was a dark period where 2D games were shunned by the west and I'm thrilled the see the return of 16-bit style Genesis/NeoGeo type games. :-D I'll definitely be picking up that sequel to Raging Blasters! I loved that game, I even 1 CC'd it on EXPERT :-)
ZPF looks fantastic. Really excited for it. But.....I wish they'd tone down the OTT rainbow-fannyness of those coins. To me they detract from the awesome artwork throughout the rest of the game. Hope they change that before release.
It does look great! As all Gryzor drawn games do. I didn't notice or think anything of the coins actually until you pointed them out since they are kind of small. At least not compared to the bonanza that happens on screen with more modern shmups.
