That is exactly what I was going to say. A lot of people don't realize how much work REALLY goes into game development. It's a massive commitment of time and resources.
Sega is flexible with fan games, but just like all companies, you can't make money from your franchises in any way. So no Patreon, Kofi, etc. Because then they would have problems
Most unreal projects like this are doing too much or just scream fan made project but this is actually pretty close to what I would want from an official remake. This is awesome
Well its early in its development tbf. There isnt even a working UI lol. Thats excusable. But they already have a better run animation than ModernSA2 @deedoubs
@@spaciouswheat4580 Run animation is not what's going to make the game feel or not feel like SA2 ultimately. It's going to be the player's core movement code. This looks less SA2 right now and more 2006.
Incredible work! Huge step up from your previous sonic demos, needs a little more polish with the jagged looking animation transitions and needing to tone down the reflections on some surfaces but other than that it looks really great.
hey, if you need any help with sound design, let me know. there are aspects here which could be improved, like the repetitiveness of the scraping sound of the "skateboard" and the slightly empty soundscapes, and i have plenty of experience working in unreal while studying audio engineering at university. it'd be a fun little side project. if you need any help, let me know
The level design itself looks more spatious to allow some more freedom of movement and fine adjustments to your platforming which I think it's essential for a high speed platformer, and the animations look and feel just so smooth, I love it. Every part of it. It's perfect.
This is really phenomenal and it brought back a lot of the joy I have been missing from Sonic games. SA2 is the video game that really left an impact on me as a kid and this is such a way to modernize it while honoring the source material. Kudos :D
Alright even though the boss fight on a technical level is pretty different from the OG it gave me the same feeling I had as a child and I dont know how to explain it. Youve got something good on your hands. great job
I love the change to the Big Foot arena: even if its not exactly a hard boss, having the arena setup so you can potentially find cover while it strafes just feels right
Now this a true, faithful remake of City Escape and overall SA2. The other one I saw was posted by Blue Vivacity and it was kinda bad, because it changed sound effects, voices and other things for the sake of change but still for whatever reason kept the old map from SA2 and just applied HD filters on top of them. This one keeps the old voice lines and most old sound effects while adding in good new SFX and remade the map altogether while making it still City Escape. Very impressive. They even redid the Bigfoot boss fight in a good way. This is the SA2 remake I’ve been waiting for
This looks incredible- actually like SanFrancisco too, which is amazing. SEGA please hire JeliLiam, for bringing back City Escape in the future- so we can get updated visuals and the actual cities- realistically with Sonic blowing thru them! This is the standard levels today should be at
I've been planning to get into doing PC gaming on a gaming laptop soon so when I have all of what I need for that and am ready to do it, I'll give this fanmade remake a try for sure! What's been shown in this trailer looks impressive and so does all of what I saw in the announcement trailer!
This is super cool! Animations are nice and snappy and everything looks fairly faithful. I’m a tad worried at how heavy the jump and homing attack looks but everything else is on point!
I like that Big was there and the cool jump during the boss, and the bigger level design. I don't like how empty the world is (we don't need to explore the world but it could still be filled in).
Some improvements that I thing you could do to the stage Since the streets on city scape are very big, you could add more moving cars on the main roads to make the stage more alive. Also add more foliage to the grass to make it less plastic Also do you have any plans to add the rail balance mechanic to the game ? Congratulations for make this game, great job!!
He’s so fast man, this is beautiful. I’m not even a fan of sa2 but this is how Sonic should always look. And he probably plays just as fun as it is to watch
This looks pretty damn cool, I love how the visuals aren't just hyper saturation, bloom, and a bunch of AO. He also looks to control VERY nicely and faithfully, without being ridiculously fast. He's pretty well animated, my only gripe is that skateboard trick might need to be toned down a bit. Overall, very promising project! Can't wait to see where it goes
Sound design is genuinely amazing, like how u kept the original ones but added a bit extra. One thing i would say tho is that i feel like the momentum is a bit too easy or unrealistic compared to SA2. I really liked how they did it there.
Really nice hybrid between original adventure physics and modern boost-style movement. This is exactly what I hoped for from Sega, hope chao garden comes in the future too
as an sa2 megafan semipurist, this looks fun man :) i bet itll turn out great edit: this is a really small thing but i like the way hes been animated to properly unfurl from the ballform before he touches the ground if you dont naturally unfurl beforehand
This looks awesome! I have a minor critiques. The materials sometimes aren't accurate. For instance, some look too glossy, like at 0:42. Other than that, I'm hyped to try this out.
im happy it has its own original assets and textures, thats what i hate about most ports and remakes - if i wanted it to look the same i'd play the original.
This is a really good looking Proof of concept. From a graphical standpoint, there really is no beating the potential of Unreal Engine. It looks really good enough as it is considering its a revamped version of DREAMCAST graphics, but if the devs put in enough work, it can look like a Triple-A-Studio level remake. It does look a bit too one-toned in a sense that it is definitely bold in colors, but not very in depth. Reminds me of cel shading. Now, gameplay wise, this is very solid framework. I can see in some places that the gameplay is broken in speed, such as animations and whatnot, but when Sonic is running, you can see the speed and high-intensity gameplay. I really like this and it shows what a SEGA-Mase SA2 remake's framework should look like.
this looks AWESOME! will it be moddable, and are you doing the whole game? and will there be a version for Sonic Adventure 1, Shadow 05, or Heroes? and will it be open source? I don't want it to seem like I'm being picky (Hehe, get it, because "picky" the critter) but I'm just wondering
WOOO! Now THIS is a new fangame im looking forward to! Looks almost official! Even the visuals look less like ue and more like he2, which is good, this is like p-06 but sa2
The smooth transitions are awesome. My only criticism would be the lack of a tune for the invincibility power up and the need to increase the speed of the truck. Otherwise this project in incredibly impression quite simply because it not only gives us probably the best fan made city escape we've seen to date, but also includes the boss stage that goes with it.
as far as I can see the only thing that I could improve is the management of the lights with tando that we are in the air the Engine 5 is also improved in the management of the shadows on Sonic's shadow for the rest the animations are very typical of both the original version and the version of Sonic generations and also the modernization of the textures of Adventure 2 is done well this is the first project after Sonic omens in which I feel with the right commitment and dedication it can be a fan game that can be remembered keep it up good work the dream of all those who opened this video is realized
this project looks AWESOME. i feel like this will be like FF7 remake or black mesa. maybe some reduxed models and some stuff from the films would be great!!
super immpressive. insane work. my only suggestion would be attempting to make new routes throughout the stages instead of sticking to the original's level design so heavily. make it feel like a true expansion! can't wait to see the demo next week!
Well dang if he really went through the trouble of remaking the final hazard and city escape he might as well do the whole game so…I’ll see where this goez
The worst part of this is having low hopes because of how often projects like this gets cancelled. That aside this looks amazing.
That is exactly what I was going to say. A lot of people don't realize how much work REALLY goes into game development. It's a massive commitment of time and resources.
It's because they keep doing things like this where they show it all over the place and don't even try to be anonymous.
Is that why some people like to lay low until they've gotten a good portion of the assets and whatnot done?
get cancelled? bruh they were dead from the start, these are just animations.
Sega is flexible with fan games, but just like all companies, you can't make money from your franchises in any way.
So no Patreon, Kofi, etc. Because then they would have problems

A SA2 remake that does not just import the old level textures? this is PEAK
You got the most important part down, the movement and flow. I think this'll go far
There are lots of aspects of the movement in this demonstration that feel very off to my eyes.
Well its early in its development tbf. There isnt even a working UI lol. Thats excusable. But they already have a better run animation than ModernSA2 @deedoubs
Though he never once did a sumasault into a jump or anything like that, the movement/controls definitely look different from the original.

If I could recommend one thing. Make the gun truck faster. So that it feels more threatening
And give it the giant sawblades from Generations. And add the Generations City Escape remix, too.
@@ProfessorMike64Or you know, just play generations

@@samuunn i have a friend who wants to try sa2 for the movie but doesnt like the 2001 graphics 💔
Wasn't expecting much but fuck me, this is amazing.
It manages to strike that perfect balance between "different" and "familiar".
City Escape finally looks like San Francisco
What did it look like before?
@@SonicSouz just play the OG and you'll know (i recommend without mods)

Wow. Thanks for keeping it real. No alt paths or extra fluff. Just a plain good old ACTUAL SA2 in UE5. Looks 💯🔥😩👌🏻
There's some potential here. Those rolling physics, the Homing Attack and Bounce looked really smooth.
hey, if you need any help with sound design, let me know. there are aspects here which could be improved, like the repetitiveness of the scraping sound of the "skateboard" and the slightly empty soundscapes, and i have plenty of experience working in unreal while studying audio engineering at university. it'd be a fun little side project. if you need any help, let me know
