    Thanks, I'm trying to write a song in 7/8 timing. I play guitar and that was the first bit I did, which was pretty easy for me. If I can get the right drum beat for it, that will help me get the mood of the song.

      bloody mary Good!!! When I was first starting I practiced for about a year without one. Probably made me a better player because of it. Just tap away, tap away.     Very interesting! For me this is a new way of counting 7/8 beat cause usualy in the balkan-area they count 1,2,1,2,1,2,3. So the accents are complete diffrent. Thats hot stuff what u do. BigLike! keep on :)

    Counting for the 7/8 ryrhm is not " 1 2 3 4 5 6 7" it is but the the correct one, thy counting " 123 12 12" and accents are on the (bass drum) first of the "123" snare is on third of "123" , second bass drum is on first of the "12" and the snare is first of the second "12" and the same accents are done on the hi-hat

    Is that first groove at 100bpm? He says it is, but I'm clocking it at 190. I'm a beginner. What am I missing?

      It's at 100bpm because the time signature is 7/8 rather than 7/4.
      Since 7/8 has a sub division of eighth notes (which are halves of quarter notes), the amount of bpm is reduced by half. So, if the groove was in 7/4, it would be in 200bpm.

      ​@@williambird1234 Yes, some apps like Pro Metronome ignore sub divisions and only change the track's speed according to bpm, unless premium features are unlocked. But this can be dealt with by doubling the bpm (which would be the same as doubing the sub division if the bpm stayed the same).

      @@santiagobarragan8554 Beats per minute is often confused with Quarter notes per minutes. When the tempo is in Beats per minute, it makes no differents if the time signature is 7/8 or 7/4. 7/8 means 7 beats in a bar and an eighth note gets the beat and 7/4 means 7 beats in a bar and a quarter note gets the beat, so they have the same number of beats per bar. In sheet music the tempo is often in quarter notes per minute (quarter note symbol followed by an equal sign and a number). When you like to play in 7/8, try Greek Kalamatianos music, for example Μήλο μου Κόκκινο, but there is much more.

      Nicolas Fro 7/4 goes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 2 3... And 7/8 goes 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 1...

      Nicolas Fro 7/4 is 7 quarter notes so 1&2&3&4&5&6&7& where the numbers are quarternotes 7/8 are 7 eight notes, so 1&2&3&4,1&2&3&4 so it's just your regular 8/8 or 4/4 with the last eight note (the and of four) missing. Hope this was understandable enough.

      If you have an iPhone or Android device download the mobile metronome app. It's free. Set the time signatures to 7/4 and then 7/8. You'll then be able to hear the difference between the two.

      metronome beats in 8th notes man, if you start counting 4th, you're gonna have your metronome beating 4 times for the first measures and 3 for the second, it gets extremely complicated for no reason.
