      So.. I like your product very much but you still haven't replied to the MAIN question nor addressed it in any way. So with all due respect - is the "Cloud" I must sign in your 10 GB free cloud (BUT ON YOUR SERVER) or as it says ... "download the app for local storage". It will still stay the amazing app but no point in beating around the bush...

    The fact that its limited to 3 members per workspace for the Open Source/Community Edition, I would not want to use this for personal or professional use. Much rather use something like outline instead.

      Totally understand. I'd like to see the number increased a bit for small teams, and even maybe a grant for teams working on open source projects, but it's also understandable when they make it MIT licensed, but also need to generate revenue to continue to support the project.

    Hi I have a query regarding freeipa server setup can you please help. I have added the IP of my node followed by the fqdn of the same node in /etc/hosts file. I have also set a static IP to this node. I have installed all required freeipa packages but now when I am trying to setup/install the server with this command ipa-server-install with all the required parameters using --unattended it shows as its trying to configure but shows below error. /etc/hosts file & /etc/resolv.conf are having correct entries. /etc/resolv.conf has entries of this node it seems to be correct
    error: option --reverse-zone: DNS check for domain 1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. failed: The resolution lifetime expired after 24.215 seconds: Server 192.168.1.2 UDP port 53 answered The DNS operation timed out.; Server 192.168.1.2 UDP port 53 answered The DNS operation timed out..

      Just built these at work. I had a similar issue that was caused by my order in the etc/hosts file. Ensure the following to rule out the issues in that particular file:
      1. The entry for the server "dc1.domain.local" is entered at the top about the localhost entry.
      2. Ensure it is entered with the static IP so it should be at the top of the file as:
      "10.10.10.10 dc1.domain.local"
      Don't have it entered as:
      "127.0.0.1 dc1.domain.local"
      3. Ensure you've reversed the entire domain, so make sure that both dc1.domain.local and domain.local both point to the server.
      4. Ensure ipv6 is disabled if using standard install. Ensure ipv6 off flag is set on container install.
      5. Ensure the hostname for the machine matches it's id in the subdomain. So the hostname should be dc1 for dc1.domain.local

    This seems very new with rapid dev - Why use this instead of something like LogSeq or Obsidian? In those, the offer a graph view and easy way to link pages or blocks with simple commands

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  10 дней назад +2

      I think those are definitely interesting, but Obsidian...not open source. As for the graph view, it's also interesting, but the visuals in a tool like Affine are what can really help getting ideas flowing quickly. I have LogSeq on my list to try out for sure though. In the end, I just want to provide as many options to you all as I can. Also, not sure about LogSeq's ability to do collaborative editing. Maybe it has it, and I just haven't found the docs on it yet.

      @@AwesomeOpenSource Logseq has been working on support for hosted instances that act as A central database enabling things like collaborative editing in the future.
      For now its A client that stores its data locally, and requires another program for syncing your files between devices.

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  9 дней назад +1

      No workaround that I know of, no. The limit of three is, no doubt, to push paid licenses, and support the continued development.

    Request: personal local domain for your selfhosted apps. Like in this vid, you have to use the IP which is a bummer. Thanks!

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  10 дней назад +1

      You can use a local domain for this if you want. You just need to setup your internal DNSS to know to point that local domain to this IP. You could do this on most apps, though it can be a little harder on some. You can even do https with a self-signed cert locally, then setup that cert on all your client device browsers so it will be trusted.

    • @TrevorSullivan

      I highly recommend setting up Cloudflare Tunnels to forward DNS names to internal services. Or better yet, use IPv6. 🙂

    • @BPL-Whipster
      @BPL-Whipster 10 дней назад

      If you're worried about exposing your public IP, you could use Cloudflare Tunnels which will mask it. Also doesn't require any open ports on your firewall. There's a free tier, and paid tiers with more features.

      second the request,
      i get around configuring containers and services but my weak point is indeed networks, certificates etc
      also deploying to the internet using a domain name and that stuff breaks me 😅
      i bought my little server and a domain name like 3 years ago , still haven't set that up..

    • @BreannaVK3BBS
      @BreannaVK3BBS 10 дней назад

      Traefik as a reverse proxy does this relatively easily if you have an owned domain. There are great guides here on RUclips and it allows you to have friendly domains on your internal network when paired with a local DNS solution like PiHole or most decent routing platforms. Awesome Open Source seems to present tools like this in the simplest way possible which does make his videos more approachable but hurts longer term usability.

    One thing that I don't like is that there is no login screen. If you expose your app, anyone can use it (just cant log in). But besides that, this project has great potential! Would love to revisit it again in a near future.

    How do you run a 32GB RAM cloud server for 9 bucks a month? I checked the prices and for the love of Allah and/or Joseph Smith cannot square it to $9 per month... am I missing something?

    • @Sam-oz8tw
      @Sam-oz8tw 7 дней назад

      ssd nodes
      I bought my 8cpu 32gb ram server for $250 for 3 years. That be $7.5/ mo.
      If you rented for actual /mo instead of every years it's higher though. $29/mo.
      Even at $29/mo though, still much cheaper than AWS/DO

    • @docmalitt
      @docmalitt 7 дней назад

      @@Sam-oz8tw hey thx for response. I must be missing something then... I right now have their offer open in next tab and for the same config it says $529 for 3 years. If I deduct $103 for daily snapshots and $37 to switch to 10% discounted server the end price is still $388.80 for 3 years. That is $10.7 per month and tbh better than most other offers, but far from $7.5 per month you are saying...maybe if I vpn to some other country would help but it's just - $250 vs $388 in one swipe - a lot. The worst part is if I lower the specs, I don't gain (save) much money-wise but I lose a lot spec-wise.
