  • We got this old tin repousse tin camel back trunk for $40 on the Offer Up app. It is great to store and preserve antiques in. I used Rub 'n Buff in antique gold, black, silver and Spanish copper to gild the trunk.

Thank you. I wear them because I don't like the way my hands look and have low self esteem 😂

Hi Lou. Get the app "Offer Up" on your phone and put your zip code in and search for trunks. I always see a lot of cool ones for sale. Let me know if you get one. They are great for storage!

@@FuturesPast1 I will. Look to see if there are any secret compartments in there.

@@IndianaTones I didn't think of that. It would be cool if there was one and there was hidden treasure inside 😁

Very cool trunk! I have one that's similar. The black leather handle/straps on mine also deteriorated, so I planned to replace them with a thick, black leather belt that I was going to try to nail into place. But...that poor trunk is now totally neglected in a storage unit, so I haven't been able to fix it yet . Love the antique gold color you added.

Gosh, I'm binge-watching your videos! We seriously have a lot of similar interests, but I'm beginning to feel like I'm stalking your channel, lol.

Just fyi -- The humpback-style trunk was designed to *shed water* -- NOT to prevent wealthy people's belongings from being positioned below those of lower-class passengers' belongings. I have two of these trunks, both handed down in my family. The original owners never travelled more than a few dozen miles from where they were born.

I am not disagreeing with you. However, a lot of dome shaped or camel or hump backed trunks were created to stop other trunks from being stacked on top of them. Wealthy people were more likely to have them.
Excerpt from trunk history I found on the internet: "Antique Dome top and steamer trunk history: The top on this trunk curves both directions. This design was first made in the early 1800's in Europe. The top was designed to prevent other luggage from being stacked atop them when used in traveling by ship to America"

Thanks Krissy! I love gaudy things. The gaudier the better. I would paint everything I owned gold gilt if I could 😁😉
