Black Market Harley Parts Market Just Opened (Not Illegal, Just Makes the EPA Mad)

  • The black market Harley parts market just opened and the EPA isn't gonna be happy! Even though it's of their own creation and the EPA can only blame themselves, they just created a whole new market of recycling and reusing Harley-Davidson parts with their regulation enforcement on manufacturers. You're old Harley parts such as exhaust systems with no cats, tuners that will allow air fuel ratio changes, camshafts with overlap and carburetors all just gained in value. Not to mention the older Harley-Davidson motorcycles themselves have all just gained in value. Independent, locally owned good o'l boy shops are gonna see a lot more business and demand for used Harley-Davidson parts.

      I've been a machinist, now toolmaker for over 45yrs. I worked for a few hi-perf aftermarket companies. Yep, they had their own products and would take them to races to sell, to fund their own racing. Now, CNC machinery is rather affordable and if ya got the smarts, you can make parts, and money.

    I used to be a regular citizen. But due to living in California, I am now an outlaw....an outlaw biker...I buy my parts from anyone, ebay, amazon or your mom. Currently I have a set of cams, a ss camplate that I had lying around but I can't get an ss pump. I've ordered 2 and had both sales canceled. And btw I will never buy an exhaust with a cat. Never. The biggest piece of information to be aware of as a Harley owner or Harley Buyer is that you do not want to participate in any government rebate dollars where they say they will give you a $5000 coupon on buying a new motorcycle of current year model if you let them crush your old motorcycle. They ran a program like this through the 1990s and the first 10 years up through 2010 and they managed to crush almost every old vintage vehicle that was still reliably running and people could repair themselves in their garage and be independent of finance companies dealerships and expensive computer based repairs. I am still of the opinion that it would be less toxic to the environment to reuse the vehicles that have already been built then to crush them put all those toxins into the earth re-process all of those metals and plastics and oils to make a new vehicle that will only last five years at the most and have to be replaced again. A long term study would reveal this but it does not benefit big government or big corporation pocketbooks it would only benefit middle and low income do it yourself motorcycle owners and riders. That’s why you haven’t heard of it. Don’t be a clone for their robot clone army, think for yourself.

    Hi Foo , sound saves lives, I know this is a slightly different scenario, but two weeks ago I was down in my local town, I looked both ways to see if there’s anything coming in traffic, I went to step on to the road I nearly got hit by electric car, Luckily, I had my wits about me,
    I think they are going about this in the wrong direction , As there is more things out in the road in atmosphere, that produces more pollution than what a motorcycle does, that should be their first priority, not the minority motorbikes, we will not be allowed to fart soon. We will need a pipe up by us to collect it. Perhaps we should save it and send it TO THE EPA , we are being persecuted because we ride motorbikes, And obviously we’d love our freedom, and we are being manipulated and being controlled by government authorities that are taking over the world and we all know where that’s going,

    • @GixxerFoo
      @GixxerFoo  2 месяца назад +1

      They argue against us that loud pipes save lives, but like you just mention with the electric car they are trying to mandate that those electric cars need to make noise since they are so quiet!! That's our government for you! I hope you're doing alright and glad you had your wits about you!

    • @richardlee2488
      @richardlee2488 2 месяца назад +1

      You hit the nail on the head about the electric cars being as silent as the grim reaper.
      I'm currently in Tenerife and it's the first time I have seen a section of road used by sightseers that has a section of sonic paving. Car tyres hit the section and sound like race cars.
      As for the restriction on new vehicles being the manufacturer at fault. Couldn't be further from the truth. It's called type approval. It's laws we have no opportunity to vote on.
      And the testing itself is flawed at best.
      Freedom is no longer a right.

      Thy always go after the smallest portion of an issue. As far as pollution goes street bikes are minimally contributing to the issue. Private jets, industry and every other country on earth pollute a lot more than a 2 cylinder engine. Besides if they stop clear cutting and stripping the topsoil them poisoning the ground to extract the gold we could fix it. Trees take in co2 and exhale oxygen. Go figure so cutting down the biggest source of oxygen on this side of the world might be bad trees sequester carbon. Removing it from the atmosphere. So don’t believe the lies 80% of the problem can be solved by regrowing the Amazon. It affects the oceans flows and weather patterns as well. It certainly would be much easier and effective the trading one pollutant for another. Ev batteries very bad for environment

      I offered to give give him his money back, but he kept the bike.
      Some people just have expensive egos to stroke, but when I'm out on my humble little box stock '72 ElectraGlide or '97 WideGlide with only a custom paint job, the high dollar guys always come over and eyeball them.

    The stock 117 on my FXLRS has more than enough power to do anything you would want. The stock exhaust is not the best, but I wouldn't want it more than 20% louder. If I want some performance, I'll buy a bike that actually performs, like a sport naked, with much better power, lean angle and performance parts for a fraction of what it would cost to build a Harley. What really bugs me about this whole thing is the amount of government overreach.

      My Softail is a conservative build/tune. Still gets 40 mpg+. It's just quicker. Personally as long as the touring bike has enough ass to do 70
      Mph, 2 up with luggage and merges ok, navigates on and off ramps etc, I'm fine with a conservative build/tune.

    NY basically shut the whole conversation down by saying, "no modification to the exhaust system will pass inspection". it causes people to FIND all those original pipes that were just thrown in the trash. there was word that they would not send out your new registration unless it had been inspected the previous year. that doesn't appear to be true since i did get a renewal on my '71 which wouldn't pass because of straight pipes. the inspection process is all computerized with the state data system and they put the onus on the guy who does the inspection who has to log in to the system. nobody will risk a $5k-$10k fine for a $10 inspection. some riders are finding ways to register there bikes in other states.

If you managed to have a cop pull you over and ticket you for an aftermarket exhaust, you simply put the old one back on, get it signed off as being fixed, then you can put the aftermarket back on... at no point is there any sort of smog or fuel air map check.

      They are going after the manufacturers to stop producing what they consider "race parts" altogether. The exhaust systems with cats aren't such a big deal in my book but the tuners being locked into lean tunes. That I don't really care for personally.

    I’m on a vtx1800 Honda. Exhausts are hell to find for it. This is another reason gubment sucks.

      It's really tough to find exhaust for metric bikes unless you get the Ebay special. It's even harder to find a power commander style inline tuner for those metric bikes. I love old sport bikes and I would love to restore an old 90's GSXR, Ninja or CBR just as a nod to my childhood but parts are impossible to find.

    The EPA has no authority to regulate noise levels. The US Supreme Court just spanked the EPA in West Virginia vs EPA for trying to overstep their regulatory authority in the air for carbon emissions. This follows another ruling in Sackett v. EPA where the EPA also got spanked for overreaching their authority to regulate water. Odds are, if the EPA tries to do this with sound, they will get spanked also.

      I sure hope so! We are all gonna be mandated to roll around with EPA stove pipes for exhaust systems anymore.

    I own a 79 Suzuki GS1000 and a 2010 Victory. Searching for parts is nothing new for me. Definitely gonna rule out the weekend warrior bar hopper only looking to impress you with the money they can spend on a bike vs those who really want or enjoy beefing up and engine

      I hope those weekend warriors got a lot of money cause hopping up that new stuff just got a whole lot more expensive!

    Timely video speaking of older bikes and parts. I have a 14 Ultra Limited bought used. Was thinking of doing a simple stage 2 with new cam plate, oil pump, lifters, pushrods, bearings, etc. Local dealer quoted the job at $7000 😮. Guy said valve springs have to be replaced too. That seems excessive to say the least and even if I went to an independent shop maybe I’d save 1500-2k off that price. Is that what guys paid for stage 2’s on the Rushmores? Seems crazy to me.

      Ummm yeah that's way high if you ask me. Depends what cam you're wanting to use, a bolt in cam works with the stock valve train with no valve spring change required. You don't even have to pull the heads with those cams. For 7K I would order a Screamin Eagle 120R for $6500 and pay to swap the motor.

      Just a standard torque cam. I assume he was quoting the SE 585. 7 grand is more than half what I paid for the bike. Maybe I’ll call an independent shop and see what they have to say. I’m tempted to try the job myself but sure as the sun shines, I’ll get half way through the job and hit a wall I can’t climb and then I’m screwed. Lol

      @@shep68 At a Harley dealer in Central Texas, I’m getting a stage two for a little less than $3500 including the exhaust and tuning. The price they quoted you is ridiculous. Hopefully you can find another option.
