@@SwitchandClickOfficial tvducky is right - you guys are doing an amazing job! No joke, you're like the Gohan of the keeb content world. You have been leveling-up so fast it's kinda wild. Actually that sounded pretty good compared to my GLORIOUS Modular keyboard. What's more, the right shift stab already BROKE after 6 months of light use. I called them up to see if they would send me a replacement stab, but they wanted me to send them a video of the problem. That's one hell of an ask for a stabilizer. Oh hey, that's sort of my keyboard (using the high profile ctrl)... what i wanted to ask, do you feel that some stabs of yours become kinda mushy after modding? I did the same things you did + the band aid mod on the plate and while my shift and enter keys work relatively good, i notice a very mushy feeling on my backspace and it's kinda irritating, My Spacebar works perfectly. I wonder if i might have gotten a bad batch of stabs but i am not sure. Durock plate stabs are ordered to check exactly that. I was wondering if the dielectric grease causes this mushy feeling but everyone i see uses this kinda big amount. I might try just using 205g0 instead of the grease and with a little less once the new stabs arrive. It's not too bad rn but the stabs have some minor inconsistencies to them... Drop keyboards are weird with their 3 pin sockets and plate mount stabs. Really looking forward to 5 pin mount and screw in stabs on my next project ^^
Great tutorial, for plate mount stabs like these I would recommend using a small piece of band aid in between the stab and the plate to make the tolerance tighter. It will get rid of some rattle and make them feel more stable.
even unmodded the drop doesn't sound too shabby I think, but maybe I am just used to a real bad standard with my K6 and GMMK lol. I also lost stems. That is why you have replacement stabs... I even fucked some of my switches one time when pulling them out too harshly from a board, good I had some 70 odd switches for my 65%. Backup is important kids!
I know I've commented it before, but this is exaaactly the type of video that would be perfect as ASMR. Just falling asleep to you going over the whole keyboard and making all the adjustments without any cuts etc.
Don’t be too tough on yourself. Love the light hearted commentary. And I learnt a fair bit on my journey into mech keyboards from your channel. Even bought Keychrons and glorious pandas switches base on your videos recommendations.
Awesome tutorial :) From my experience the alt stabs can only be modded to a certain point though. They still sound pretty meh after lubing and greasing. I would recommend getting completely new plate mount stabs and modding those. I got some durock ones and after modding sound great.
How to remove my hot-swappable 3 pin switches (outemu low profile blues)? I use the switch puller, clamp the top and bottom and pulled in one motion but nothing moved. I tried using some force too, but it doesnt wanna come out. Pls reply thx
maybe that your switch has a bent pin. Then just apply a little more force than usually and then bend it back. PS: a bent pin is nothing to worry about.
Thank you, this is just what I was looking for. I’m just about to build my first keyboard. Are all stabilisers much of a muchness or are there certain brands I should be looking for?
First, you'll want to identify what type your PCB & plate use; plate-mounted or PCB-mounted. If the PCB has a pair of holes on either side of every switch socket where the stabs go, it's PCB-mount. If not, plate-mount. As for brands, there are a handful of good ones. In no particular order off the top of my head; C3, Durock / JWK, Zeal, GMK, and Cherry all make stabilizers that are significantly better than what most keyboards come with.
I've been looking into building my own custom keyboard for a while now and have come the realisation that there is no perfect product. Switches need to be lubed, stabilizers need to be clipped... All of this costs time and money on top of an already high starting point. Been wondering when will somebody come out with a product that addresses these issues out of box.
so if I'm getting this right, you want a *_custom_* keyboard _out of the box_ with : all the perks of a custom (unique/unusual colourway, premium case material) lubed switches good stabilizers low price point yup, good luck
Definitely not there yet - especially for stabs - if you want a good keeb you basically have to mod them. Aside from those, though, there are some switches that are quite good without tuning, and a small number of ready-for-switches kits that are at least aiming for very solid quality without costing the moon. The KBD67 lite, GMMK Pro, and NK65 Entry all come to mind - all look amazingly solid, cost less than $200, and all almost certainly come with rattly stabs. As for switches, Inks are surprisingly solid out of the box, and if you can find them in stock Silks and Tangerines are quite good as well, with the Silks being the most reasonable on price.
@@uwaa4467 I'm not saying it should be cheap. For the right price there is a market for it as some people can't be bothered tweak and modify not because it's expensive but because time is costly to them.

Happy New Year in 2023 🥳 Thank you for your informative videos and candidness. They have been helping to introduce me to the mechanical keyboard world.
Switch and Click Hey! I just discovered your channel by watching Chyrosran22 videos in my recommends and I have an unrelated question: What are in your opinion the best tactile switches? Currently I am using Flaretech Blue tactile switches, but I ordered the red switches, because the blues kinda defeat the purpose of the Wooting Two Keyboard (analog input for gaming) and in a way I don't like the tactile feeling of the Flaretech Blues. So since I will switch out the Blue switches for red switches I am looking for another tactile keyboard with some good tactile switches for work. It should be a 100% keyboard. For reference (and I know this is heresy) I really liked the Razer green switches of my Razer Chroma keyboard in the first few months. After that they became somewhat wobbly and unprecise. I honestly don't care about sound (I LOVE LOUD AND CLICKY KEYBOARDS!!!). So is there a perfect (sweetspot) tactile switch/keyboard in your opinion? I asked Chyrosran22, but he straight up said that in his opinion, there is no tactile switch sweetspot (they are all trash to him XD) in modern keyboard switches (He loves the OG Alps switches, which apparently are no longer produced).
I wish I watched this earlier. I have a Drop Ctrl and think the stock stabs sucks. I just bought a set of Everglide Panda plate mount stabilizers. They are pre clipped and pre lubed, they work great but not the cheapest solution.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial Maybe worth trying with thinner electrical tape or even masking tape. Band aid is a relatively thick cloth and make the sound much more dull and affect the feel.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have the old hot pink version of this same keyboard. It was my first mechanical keyboard so I didn’t know what I was doing; I just wanted the pretty hot pink case. I followed along with this video and the write up on your website and now my keyboard sounds so much better! Even with genuine stabs the drop alt still rattles. I believe its just a plate issue since it isnt snug enough
