    First tests had almost unbearable, unpleasantly ringing intonation at every first exhale. And not only in your tests; I have heard the same in other reviews of this mouthpiece, which deterred me from even trying it. But your test with a softer reed was the best sounding of all. I think D'Addario can still work on the chamber shape. In any case, thank you for the good review!

  • @ph2738

    Hey, this is exactly my mouthpiece, but mine is all black. D7M. I like it because it is bright and projects better than my Otto Link metal Super Tone Master. The Otto Link is also very flat. I also tried a bunch suggested by Jody Jazz. They recommended several with a big step to a big chamber, but I found them hard to blow.

  • @drivevibes6996
    @drivevibes6996 3 года назад

    I have been a longtime saxophone player (15 years) and am mostly classical trained. I used Eugene Rousseau mouthpieces, Selmers, Berg-Larsen and Meyers. I walked in to my music store with my newly acquired Tenor and this mouthpiece blew me away. I had a generic 4C that came with my tenor so it was terrible. I tried out about 5 different mouthpieces at the store and this one by far was the best.
    I really wanted a meyer but for a jazz horn I would buy this mouthpiece again. I am very happy with it!
    I did not care or was concerned with the color. I don’t notice any difference between a solid black and the marble variant.

    Stop the video at 1:54 and look at the corners where the tip rail meets the side rails: The right side is perfect, while the left side is uneven. There are some materials left in the corner, the tip rail is not completely finished.

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  5 лет назад +1

      The marble pattern is not the same from one side to the next which does make it difficult to see but the tip and the side rails are actually pretty even. I noticed no extra material.

    • @Edspillanemusic

      Vandorens run on the thicker side wheras RJS are generally a little softer, the Java Green and ZZ in my experience are a half step thicker than the RJS on tenor, V16 even more so, but it really depends on your mouthpiece and its facing. It seems like Vandorens last longer for me and have a meatier tip which helps playing up top.

  • @terencelo386

    Great sharing. I like your clips as always.
    Unlike the products from the JJ Babbitt, this mouthpiece was made with higher standard of quality. The D7M reminded me of its rivalry - the Vandoren V16. They claimed they were inspired the jazz sounds from the 50s. I quite like both them, but to me, they somehow showed similarities to each others. Indeed, they both referenced old legendary mouthpieces.
    The reed comparison in the episode, it is always the game of hit or miss. I'm neither a die hard fans of Vandoren nor the RSJ (or the rico family). They have advantages of their own. Inconsistencies are always found which gives us headache for mouthpieces-reed cross-matching routines. I hope that one day a mouthpiece-friendly Reed will be available instead of a Reed friendly mouthpiece.

    Man you sound amazing on that piece. The Vandoren reeds did have a good bit more "life" to the sound in my opinion. I am playing a standard D7M right now on tenor and love it but was thinking about giving the marble one a try. Can you tell any real difference in feel or sound between the two?

    • @Sirvalorsax
