My favorites so far would be The First Omen, A Quiet Place Day One and In A Violent Nature. Also, another one of my favorites so far, and it's not horror, would be 'Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes.' I'm curious if you've seen it.
Thank you so much for putting The Devil's Bath on my radar - I had not even heard of it and The Lodge is one of my all-time favorite Horror movies. I haven't seen Love Lies Bleeding yet, but I've heard so many good things about it, so as I soon as I figure out the streaming service it's on, I'll be catching up on that one! My list is very similar, but in a different order: 10. MaXXXine 9. Longlegs 8. I Saw the TV Glow 7. Abigail 6. Arcadian 5. Immaculate 4. The First Omen 3. Late Night with the Devil 2. Lisa Frankenstein 1. A Quiet Place: Day One
YES YES YES! Devil's Bath blew me away! My favourite, top horror of the year on my personal list. It literally was not a slow burn for me either... the movie felt perfectly paced. My gosh, I really really really want more films like this. What I love about this, is not only portrays actual history, but it's psychological and existential horror. It sticks with you. It makes me think. It makes you feel afterwards. This film was such a masterpiece. I seriously (it's so obvious hahaha) want and need more incredible films like this 😭😭😭👌👌👌👏👏👏 Emma, impeccable taste, and brilliant video as always 😁 Thanks so much! I love your personal list so much 💚💚💚
I feel Stopmotion deserves some more attention! What a chilling, sinister vibe this movie had. Some quite disturbing visuals and such an original storyline! Top three at LEAST for me.
Thank you so much for turning me on to 'The Devil's Bath'. A stunningly beautiful portrait of ultimate despair. I can't believe the lead actress wrote and performed the soundtrack. I am now obsessed with Soap&Skin. 😊
So I just watched 'The Devil's Bath' because of your list and holy shit! I'm glad you mentioned this cause I haven't picked up much on this film any way whatsoever. What a gutpunch, thank you :D
I’ve followed you for a LONG time and I dig your taste and enthusiasm with horror movies especially. Love an honest, candid opinion on their reviews of cinema.
Here's my Top 5 of the year so far: 1 - Longlegs, 2 - Exhuma, 3 - Late Night with the Devil, 4 - Infested, 5 - Dream Scenario. I'm excited to see The Oddity, Nosferatu, Alien: Romulus, and The Devil's Bath.
@@721renayou kinda skipped over the part of their comment where they listed their 5 movies like they said. and proceeded to make another list of movies they were excited to see. don’t get so angry or accusatory with people when they’re just being human. it really isn’t a good look
Great list, Emma! I haven't had the chance to watch some of the films on this list yet, but I'm very interested in The Devil's Bath, especially because the directors will be adapting A Head Full of Ghosts, a book you recommended here on the channel and that I loved.
Loved your list, as always ❤ Here's mine: 1. Longlegs, 2. Late Night With the Devil, 3. Stopmotion, 4. The First Omen, 5. Immaculate, 6. Lisa Frankenstein, 7. In a Violent Nature, 8. Maxxxine, 9. A Quiet Place Day One, 10. Double Blind.
Loved The Omen and Longlegs. Got to see both in the cinemas and it was so deathly quiet in the theatre for Longlengs that you could even hear the rustle of clothes when someone shifted. Goosebumps all over!
I'm going to give those two a rewatch. Wasn't that impressed with either first time around. Longlegs couldn't make up its mind if it was a deadly serious FBI mystery or a disturbing, wacky Nic Cage horror. The problem for me was the FBI stuff was so dull. Cage's character was a bit too much like Buffalo Bill, it was too distracting lol.
Your videos are always a treat, and this one is perfect timing - tomorrow I begin my yearly tradition of 100 Days of Halloween. I have 419 films in my pool to choose from, but the flicks you pick will definitely be chosen.
I have a folder of "Rewatcheables" by genre, but how do you work with such a long list? I've considered just adding films to Google calendar, like maybe years in advance. To remind me to revisit.
@@JosephGeorgeDeka Letterboxd! Every time I hear about a film that sounds right for those 100 days, I save it to my playlist. It’s so much better than the spreadsheet I used to use.
I’ve been a big fan of your channel for years and I always love seeing your reviews, lists, and what I watched this month! I had not heard of your number one film, so thank you for introducing it to me. I love The Lodge. Our lists have a lot of overlap but in very different orders, so I thought I’d share. Love your list! And as always, I love hearing your thoughts on movies/media. I happen to have seen 11 horror movies so far this year, so I have eleven on my list as well. 1. A Quiet Place: Day One 2. Maxxxine 3. Love Lies Bleeding 4. I Saw the Tv Glow 5. Longlegs 6. immaculate 7. Abigail 8. Under Paris 9. Arcadian 10. Lisa Frankenstein 11. In a Violent Nature
I definitely can't stop thinking about LongLegs - and want to see it a second time. Its one I'm so excited to talk about and I NEED people to watch! You've made me need to prioritise A Quiet Place Day One tbh now with your reaction... I need to see it!
GODZILLA IS EXCITED. THNK YOU EMMA. LISA FRANKENSTEIN I haven’t seen yet. But I do remember having Lisa frank folders in school when I was a young Godzilla.
I love your reviews as you rarely do spoilers and we have very similar tastes. Like you I live in Australia but in the country so I usually only get to see movies on my home cinema so I’m a bit behind your viewing reviews. Keep up the wonderful content
Awesome to see "Late night with the devil" gets so much praise from you. It was a great emotional ride that contained so much stuff with so little, plus it had the amazing actor in the lead. It was a brilliant idea to show us somewhat arrogant tv star and how it gets personal for him and that he is in fact a likeable human being with feelings like everyone else who suffered a terrible loss. The writing was just top notch and they knew how to increase the drama and tension over time. The "mass hallucination" really got me and it gets only better and better.
I have seen 3 of your list. But trust and believe, I plan to watch everything else on the list! I'm SO looking forward to finally being able to watch Longlegs.
The Devil's Bath! That movie caught me so off guard. So well balanced, so dark, great main performance, so emotionally investing. And when it reveals it's inspired by real events, omg
So, I just watched The Devil's Bath a few days ago and hollllllly shiittt it was so bleak but pretty outstanding. I loved it and it really broke me at the same time.
Our cinematic tastes don't always allign but I loved this list and enjoyed so many of the films mentioned here ... and I will definitely be watching the ones I have not seen yet. Thank you!
Love the list all of those are pretty much in my top 10 also i think once i watch oddity it could top my list. My top 5 are: 1. Love Lies Bleeding 2 Longlegs 3. Abigail 4. The First Omen 5. The Devil's Bath
Finally getting to see Quiet Place Day One & Longlegs this weekend. Didn't realise both of those movies had divided audiences so much, super excited to see what I think! Thanks for the rec list! 🥰
I absolutely loved Lisa Frankenstein, I thought it was really funny and cute. My favourite was probably Quiet Place: Day One… it was so emotional for me! I can’t think of any horror that ever made me cry that much (though Hereditary would come close). Good list!
I loved loved the lodge. This on the other hand was boring af and more of a drama. I would never recommend it. Its pretentious af putting this at number 1 lol
I love your list and channel! Keep making great horror videos! What are your thoughts on Stopmotion? I felt lucky to see this in the theater, and it would be the only one I would add to your list. I missed The Devil's Bath, and need to watch that! Thanks!
I love the list, Emma! I've only seen Maxxxine so far, usually I'm one year behind with everything. 😅 But now there are a lot of fun horror movies to look forward to! I love the lighting in this video by the way, very cool! 😁 🌄
OMFG!! I have just finished watching The Devil's Bath and can TOTALLY understand why you put this as your number one!! Absolutely fantastic movie!! The VVitch vibes definitely with some madness of The Wicker man and Midsommar thrown in for good measure... as well a very disturbing yet extremely sad turn of events for Agnes. And to think this is all based on fact too? Thanks Emma!! One of the best foreign movies I've seen so far this year... and there have been a few awesome ones (Red Rooms, Anatomy Of A Fall, Infested, The Coffee Table ect). I hadn't heard of this until I saw your top ten list so thank you! 👍
Watched The Devil's Bath tonight because of this video and may have sobbed for 30 minutes after but it was amazing. Longlegs was my #1 so far this year but I think that probably topped it.
I Saw The TV Glow was such a unique and overwhelming experience. That third act will stay with me forever. Abigail was SO FUN and I’m still angry at the marketing. I’ve also seen Longlegs three times and I have a different experience every time. It’s not a perfect film but I cannot stop thinking about it but I adore it. And Late Night With the Devil is SO DAMN GOOD
Love this list! I still haven't gotten around to watching I Saw The TV Glow yet (as it's had a very limited release) but similarly, I'd say my top 5 are: 1. Late Night With The Devil 2. The Devil's Bath 3. Longlegs 4. Maxxxine 5. All You Need Is Death
Glad I'm not the only one who prefers Immaculate to The First Omen, which I thought had some great sequences but relied way too much on previous lore for my liking. My faves of the year so far are Longlegs, Chime and I Saw the TV Glow!! Really looking forward to seeing The Devil's Bath as I loved their previous two films
I’ve seen all but one movie on your list (I’ll get to Quite Place: Day One eventually), but I think every one of these deserves to be on here, even if it’s not in the order I would have them, and others missing (Stopmotion, In a Violent Nature). Only caveat is I don’t think of Love Lies Bleeding as horror, but still an amazing movie.
Really like your take, n yes, everyone has their opinions, on list, agree with most, really liked Late night with the devil, long legs, not so much, I think was rushed, best of luck, keep up the good work
My top 10 so far: 1. Longlegs 2. The First Omen 3. A Quiet Place: Day One 4. Abigail 5. Infested 6. Immaculate 7. Lowlifes 8. Lisa Frankenstein 9. The Devil's Bath 10. Late Night with the Devil I have yet to see I Saw The TV Glow, Love Lies Bleeding, Maxxxine, Oddity, nor In a Violent Nature.
You have great taste Emma! My top 10 so far... 1) Immaculate... 2) Quiet Place:Day 1... 3) Longlegs... 4) Late Night With The Devil... 5) In A Violent Nature... 6) MaxXxine... 7) The First Omen... 8) Love Lies Bleeding... 9) Stopmotion... 10) Abigail. I wrote my list out before I pressed play on your video 👍 I'm happy to have seen 7 of these at the cinema!
About 3 minutes into The Devil’s Bath realised I knew exactly what it was about and where the story would go because I had researched the same historical events for my own project on the subject so I had a very different kind of painful experience watching that film 😆 Ah well, I think my project is different enough that it could still be done…
Thanks for the recommendations of The devil's Bath I forgot about that one, will check it out. As for the 9/8 for me The first Omen is far better, I watched them back to back but fell I need to re watch to see how they hold up.
I’m so hyped for Longlegs I can’t believe we have to wait until SEPTEMBER 5TH to watch it in cinemas in my country, I just know I won’t escape the spoilers and it makes me so sad (why do distribution companies do this??? almost 2 months of waiting WHY?)
I was so excited to see Abigail get some love. It was such a fun romp and definitely hada 2000s vibe. I thought the cast was fantastic and really liked it. Long Legs was a fun watch. I thought it was good but had some plot holes that bummed me out a lot. I liked Black Coat's daughter a lot. I definitely gotta check out the Devil's bath
I still haven't seen a few of these so it's good to know that these are the ones I should watch first :) Still waiting for a release date for Longlegs in my country (unfortunately only VOD). Love Lies Bleeding is my number 1 this year so far even though I wouldn't put it under the horror genre, more thriller. Non-horror wise Perfect Days is just the most perfect movie overall. Otherwise Late Night with the Devil is pretty high on my list too but I still didn't see any horror movie that I would truly love from this year (apart from Love Lies Bleeding if I'm counting that). Do you also plan on doing a similar video on non-horror movies from this year so far? :)
I feel like I’m one of the few who actually loved Maxxxine. It’s not perfect, and there’s definitely some plot issues especially in the third act but overall I thought it was a fun ride, it captures that 80s crime film vibe so perfectly and I loved seeing the way the events of X still affect Maxine. There’s definitely some issues but I’m so surprised by how many people are so negative about it
I haven’t really enjoyed this year’s horror movies that much, which is not typical. Longlegs is probably the only one so far that I’ll rewatch down the line.
Love Lies Bleeding IS NOT a horror movie! Maybe a fanciful thriller with a strange final act, but NOT horror (even though horrible things happen within it). Love your presence on RUclips! ❤
You know people have said this about other films in this list too haha, everyone has a different impression of what horror is I try to just do my own by what the filmmakers intent was. Thanks for watching ❤️
Recently saw Longlegs and that has reached high on one viewing. A second will happen. Here's my top 10, though the bottom two will likely be replaced easy: 1. Late Night with the Devil 2. MaXXXine 3. Longlegs 4. The First Omen 5. Immaculate 6. Love Lies Bleeding 7. A Quiet Place: Day One 8. Abigail 9. Sting 10. Godzilla x Kong
The Devils Bath 🤔 you have immediately interested to check this out. Much agreed on this whole list. 2024 has been pretty solid! Can’t wait for the rest of the year.
I love The first omen, Longlegs, late night with the devil, the devil's bath and Abigail...... I liked immaculate but it was pretty obvious.... But The first omen always takes everything over. I love Nell Tiger Free and everything she does.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I snuck out of bed to watch the original Omen. Terrified me but I couldn’t go to my parents for help because I wasn’t supposed to be up, watching horror movies. Still remember tricycle, nanny and shaved head. Vividly.
Surprised that you put Immaculate above The First Omen. In my opinion, The First Omen is a better made film but considering the similar themes of the two, I feel like Immaculate actually had the balls to go there in the end and make its message clear.
For me 1 Story, 2 Character, 3-10 everything else. Lost scarred me in investing in mysteries that were never answered and I can't abide plotholes. That is personal preference, but for that reason I definitely liked Immaculate a lot more.
My list (Have not seen The First Omen and I don’t consider Love Lies Bleeding a horror movie) 1) LONGLEGS 2) I Saw The TV Glow 3) Abigail 4) Late Night w/ the Devil 5) Oddity 6) Immaculate 7) Stopmotion 8) Maxxxine 9) In A Violent Nature 10) Arcadian
So far I don't think there's been enough good movies this year to make a top 10 so my top 6 are: 1. The First Omen 2. Oddity 3. Stopmotion 4. Longlegs 5. Love Lies Bleeding 6. Late Night With the Devil
I went to see it twice at cinema and cried even more on the second viewing. Not sure if it was tears of sadness for Sam's story .... or tears of Joy because Frodo survived! Huge cat lover here so Frodo just made the movie for me! Plus... the score was phenomenal!
“I have a problem, but so do you, that’s why you’re here” 😂😂😂 It is indeed, and we love it here. ❤
You've convinced me to see Longlegs. I think a lot of reviewers just can't deal with a slow-burn story these days.
It has some campy moments in it but they’re entertaining. If you go into it with that in mind I think you’ll enjoy it
Go see for sure! People were okay with the pacing but didn’t like the twist IMO
There’s a number story elements that get picked up in Longlegs, only for nothing to be done with them.
It is really good.
It's great but was definitely over hyped
Oh great you still did one of those! So happy to see Lisa Frankenstein on there :) Amazing how almost all of those movies have a female protagonist =)

3. A Quiet Place: Day One
4. Abigail
5. Infested
6. Immaculate
7. Lowlifes
8. Lisa Frankenstein
9. The Devil's Bath
10. Late Night with the Devil
I have yet to see I Saw The TV Glow, Love Lies Bleeding, Maxxxine, Oddity, nor In a Violent Nature.
Love lies bleeding sounds fantastic! This is one I didn't know about! Thank you- per usual.
I watched it and I loved it! Great movie!
Reply to myself... dammit! I completely forgot about Infested!! Can i have a number 11 too? 😜
I LOVED A Quiet Place Day One, it's my fave in the series! Going to see Longlegs this week and I can't wait!
About 3 minutes into The Devil’s Bath realised I knew exactly what it was about and where the story would go because I had researched the same historical events for my own project on the subject so I had a very different kind of painful experience watching that film 😆 Ah well, I think my project is different enough that it could still be done…
there's always a sense of "inevitable tragedy" with historical horror, that's alright
It sucked as a film but horror girls love it.
Thank you once again & I forgive the lateness 😉
Oddity is so good by far the best of the year
Just wait. Oddity is coming.
I suspect Emma made this video before watching Oddity.
For quite some decades movies have been heavily promoted especially on tv. Right now there's not a big publicity for most horror movies.🤔
lisa frankenstein was filmed right by my house, i’m glad it didn’t disappoint!
There’s definitely some issues but I’m so surprised by how many people are so negative about it
Hey I wish I loved it!
Me too! I loved it so so much, it had so much going on!
Great list Emma! Hoping more underrated gems make it to your list in the remaining half of the year❤❤❤
I expected Stop Motion to be on your list. Oh and Oddity will definitely be on your next list when you see it. Good list.👍
Have you seen Oddity? Saw it last weekend and I know you'll like it
My faith in your taste will never waiver, but your number one only further solidifies it. Bravo!
Great list! Gotta watch The Devils Bath tho 👍
Thank you for the devils bath I definitely have to watch it now!
I haven’t really enjoyed this year’s horror movies that much, which is not typical. Longlegs is probably the only one so far that I’ll rewatch down the line.
Late Night with the Devil was cool
I just watched Abigail a couple nights ago. I loved it so much!
Totally agree with everything you said about The Devil's Bath.
Wow, number one was such a surprise! I will definitely be watching it now!
Recently saw Longlegs and that has reached high on one viewing. A second will happen. Here's my top 10, though the bottom two will likely be replaced easy:
1. Late Night with the Devil
2. MaXXXine
3. Longlegs
4. The First Omen
5. Immaculate
6. Love Lies Bleeding
7. A Quiet Place: Day One
8. Abigail
9. Sting
Vividly.
longlegs is fantastic! Great list, I'd replace Quite Place Day one and Lisa Frankenstein with Lowlifes and Stopmotion.
I absolutely love Lisa Frankenstein! One of my favorites of the year!
Great video, as usual.
I liked all of these that I've seen.
I also liked In a Violent Nature, and Sting.
Devil's bath was so so good. The acting in those two scenes near the end...damn.
My list
(Have not seen The First Omen and I don’t consider Love Lies Bleeding a horror movie)
1) LONGLEGS
2) I Saw The TV Glow
3) Abigail
4) Late Night w/ the Devil
5) Oddity
6) Immaculate
7) Stopmotion
8) Maxxxine
9) In A Violent Nature
10) Arcadian
That was a great list. I’ve seen most & my favourite was “Late Night With the Devil” 😈
i love these videos bc i trust your taste & i always find the best new things to watch!!
I just had a double feature with "Devil's Bath" and "Exhuma." Both were fantastic and definitely in my top 10 of the year.
Can't wait for 👽 Romulus
So far I don't think there's been enough good movies this year to make a top 10 so my top 6 are:
1. The First Omen
2. Oddity
3. Stopmotion
4. Longlegs
5. Love Lies Bleeding
6. Late Night With the Devil
I absolutely adored The Devil's Bath and have been recommending it to people left and right.
Amazing list!
I loved Quiet Place Day One. I knew I would though because the director’s first movie had me bawling.
I went to see it twice at cinema and cried even more on the second viewing. Not sure if it was tears of sadness for Sam's story .... or tears of Joy because Frodo survived! Huge cat lover here so Frodo just made the movie for me! Plus... the score was phenomenal!
" The Devils bath" is a MASTERPIECE.
Maxxine was good! But hey, when you see Longlegs after, you just forget about it. But Love Mia Goth.Loooove Longlegs!
