sinister scared me so bad when I first saw it! also; I was home with my sister and a friend who lived a few streets away. it was about 1AM when the film finished so my sister and I decided to walk my friend home. we live by a railroad and whilst coming back to our house, someone who appeared to be a child was standing in the middle of the tracks, not moving. I legit thought I was hallucinating at first but nope, my sister was seeing it too. but anyway great video! I love those ranking videos and seeing how different mine would be haha. my faves are both the creep films, get out, the invisible man, ma (sorry), the second unfriended, split and the gift! I haven't seen upgrade yet but since you seem to really love it I'll give it a watch soon!!
I don't think the green inferno is meant to be a remake of cannibal holocaust, more like a homage to it and to the general italian cannibal boom of the 80's.
I think Green Inferno really miss the spot with the absence of story. However, the visuals and tension really is there, if only Eli Roth wasn't the Micheal Bay of horror. Cannibal Holocaust was not very a big story but it took liberties in the presentation, really Kickstarted the foundfootage style and is still one of the best way to tell a found footage stortly in mhly opinion.

Should do a video on just these. For the most part they are worth watching. All are pretty short too so not too painful if you find some you don't really like.
Great video! As a huge horror fan I realize Horror as a genre is subjective. And I always love seeing how other horror fans see movies and rank them ! Cheers
21:22 I love Paranormal Activity so much, almost every film have a place in my heart. I remember watching the first one when I was little and I couldn't sleep in peace for a week.
Out of your top 20, the only film I was not entertained by was The Visit. Everything else I either find scary, spooky, well made or if none of those then at least entertaining! Really liked this vid
I would have guessed Creep was your number one! Also, I loved that you talked about The Gift, I have watched that movie 3 times and still love it. I haven’t watched paranormal activity in years, but you have inspired me to give it a rewatch!
OMG....you were hilarious Emma!! You were scared, nervous, and even did a shake/dance before naming the movies!! One of your most entertaining videos!!! I was very excited to see The Green Inferno... but was disappointed. I did enjoy Happy Death Day, very fun!! Upgrade was bad ass!! It's your video, so Paranormal can be #1🤔🤔🤔🤔👻👻👻!! Again, awesome video!!! Congrats on Rotten 🍅!!
This was great. I always learn so much from your reviews. I've lost track of how many great films I've seen thanks to you. You're my go-to horror critic
There is a reason that Blumhouse is that horror production, every time they make a good movie they seemed to be contractually obligated to make 2 bad ones. Blumhouse has made some truly great movies and if they can actually get consistent they could be a respected horror productions company. My favorites: Get Out, Halloween, Creep 1 &2, Hush, Split, Ouija 2, Occulus, Happy Death Day, Insidious movies (except 4), and the Town that Dreaded Sun Down remake. the ok: Ma, Dark Skies, and the Visitor good of nonhorror: BlacKKKlansman, Upgrade, the Gift, and Whiplash Worst of what I watched: Unfriended 2, the Purge, Truth or Dare, and Sinister 2 there are a ton of bad ones I haven't watched of Blumhouse
@James Cook For me it was boring and basic cool idea though, that the sequels made it much more fun. I'm glad you thought it was awesome though the beauty of art.
@James Cook When I say basic I meant that they took a unique idea but did nothing interesting with it not that the idea wasn't something different which I did appreciate
@James Cook No problem, oh and we all have individual interests and views so there really is no reason to tell a person their wrong for enjoy a certain movie, that is why I try not to do so. I can't see a movie through your eyes so can't judge it from your perspective. I know you didn't ask but wanted to add my thoughts on that idea
Honestly Paranormal Activity deserve much more than people give it. Back in the day there was nothing like seeing the Paranormal Activity movies in a packed theatre where everyone is just glued to the screen. I do really enjoy Blum House and respect what they have done in horror but once in awhile they will have that one movie where you're like "Why did they make that?!" And I know I seem to be the only one but I loved "Ma" and thought it was supper underrated! lol but that is my opinion. Great video Emma!
Okay Emma I'm going to take the bait before I watch yours. No particular order here. Probably few surprises. Sinister Oculus The Purge The Conjuring The Conjuring 2 Insidious Paranormal Activity The Lords of Salem The Purge: Anarchy Creep Unfriended The Green Inferno Paranormal Activity 4 Hush Split Get Out Happy Death Day The Hunt Cam Upgrade Edit after watching: I can't believe I haven't seen The Gift.
@@JayJayAbels I just downloaded it. Thanks. I think the problem was that there are too many movies called the Gift. I liked the Cate Blanchett one from the 90's.
I love that paranormal activity is no 1!!! I love it and the first three. Also I’m so pleased you added lords of Salem. It’s just so understated, and my favourite zombie flick
I love your list! Some standouts for me - Insidious: Chapter 3 works for me too! I get it. Sinister scared me a lot when I saw it in theaters and I just finally got the courage to rewatch it and it wasn't as scary, but I still enjoyed it. Insidious is probably one of my favorites. I love the world building in The Further and you really care about the characters. Upgrade was so awesome - it was a movie my husband could appreciate (he isn't the biggest horror fan). We both enjoyed it a lot!
Nahhhh, I think its very boring. I used to say this about the found footage genre as a whole, but I think I have seen enough good FF films at this point to not make that claim. IMO, the only strong Paranormal Activity film is The Marked Ones (especially the ending) and Paranormal Activity 3 is passable. The rest just don't do it for me.
Good on you for just voicing your opinion. This is a huge problem with horror fandom: That a person should feel any form of anxiety over what they like because of a general disdain for something that's perceived as too "uncoool" or mainstream to like. We should be collectively glad that someone is concentrating so much on producing a large amount of well produced horror. Not all of them are going to be hits but not all of them are going to be shit either Instead we choose to demonize every production because god forbid someone should churn out stuff in the genre we like that other people might too or, worse, that they dare "offend: us with a few stinkers. I swear, horror fans don't appreciate when they have it good.
I had few differences of opinion with your Top 20 (not many). However, we are in total agreement with the bottom five. You do a great job. Keep up the great work!
Don't apologize Emma! This is your channel and you can say whatever you want. I also love Paranormal Activity, even though it gets shade. I've seen practically every movie on your list, found some new ones!
I think blumhouse movies are so much fun even when they're really bad it's still a good time but they've definitely produced some genuinely great horror. Great list! I think the only one I haven't seen is The Belko Experiment.
Honestly, you shouldnt be scared or anxious or apprehensive to give your list. Art is subjective and no one will ever agree on everything - so if there are mean comments on RUclips, that shows what kind of person they are. You should be more confident in listing everything! I didn't agree with everything of course, but it's pretty spot on. Id love to see other ranking videos like this again. Thank you so much!
Emma! Gurl! Stop apologizing for your list! It’s YOUR list! Not mine, not any other viewers, not anyone but YOURS! Lol I’m happy to see lots of my own faves on this one! Like for instance The Gift was probably the most pleasant surprising movie I’ve watched in a long time! 😀 Creep and Creep 2 also pleasantly surprised me! And a big Leigh Whannel fan as well. Very talented guy😎 Thanks for sharing and tell all the dummies that give u crap to take a leap 😉
Im honestly so glad you put Paranorml Activity 2 on the list its my favorite one of the series behind The Marked Ones. And i love it so much i rewatch it all the time and it still scares me.
Girl I feel you on most of these. Too difficult for me to rank though. I really enjoy the first three Paranormal Activity films. I recently rewatched them and they still spooked me. I've been putting off some of these like The Gift. Maybe I'll watch tonight. I'm at work alone in a dark room during night shift lol. It may not be Blumhouse but I like The Conjuring universe. The Conjuring and Annabelle Origins(is that the title? The one with Anthony LaPaglia) still scare me. Also it may night be necessarily disturbing but you should check out The Love Witch. Story meh but visually stunning. I thought I was watching a 60s flick. Love your content. I look forward to your vids every week. What with working the night shift and all😉
I watched Sinister just the other day for the first time, actually on a rainy day, with the sun going down during it and it had many very haunting moments, I was impressed.
I love the Creep films. Creep 2 especially. I don't know if its intentionally funny but I think Mark Duplass is not only creepy but hilarious in those movies haha.
I will never forget when Paranormal Activity came out. My sister and brother in law went to see it, but my date was too young to see it at the time (I was 17 and he was 15 lol) so we saw The Stepfather while they watched PA. When they came out my BIL was holding his stomach and said they almost walked out because of how disturbed they were. I didn't get to actually see it until it came out at our dollar theater months later and suffice to say that it wasn't the same effect. To this day I'm so bummed I didn't get to experience it before the hype but I so appreciate it on this list! You're so fun! ❤️
Cool list! Don't apologize or call your favorites, "guilty pleasures," as there is no guilt in enjoying something. Arguing and disagreeing (respectfully) about this sort of thing is why being in the horror community can be so much fun. That said, I also didn't hate "Lords of Salem," and I really like "Paranormal Activity" too. "Creep" and "The Gift" on the other hand... Love your channel. :)
I love Insidious and I loved the first Paranormal Activity. I saw it in theaters in high school and I’m so glad I did. I think it was very unique at the time and regardless of what people think of it it ushered in a new generation of movies. There’s a reason there are so many copycats! Also I hated Lords of Salem and I watched it twice 😂 Thanks for another great list, girl. Added a few movies to my list to watch for the first time and a few to rewatch.
I completely agree with you on paranormal activity. I saw it as a last minute change with friends and had no idea what we were seeing walking in. I was so engrossed and i swear, everytime that ghost hum started the cinema got cold. I've jumped in the cinema since, but I've never felt scared like that (that was 2009) and I've been watching horror since about 2001 to this day.
Love this list and hearing your perspective on Blumhouse. Before watching I think I had a bit of a judgmental attitude toward Blumhouse but I will definitely check some more of these out! THANK YOU for recognizing PA 1 and 2 because these are films I am constantly defending to my friends who aren't seeing the scariness for some reason. Also, CONGRATS on the Rotten Tomatoes offer! I think you would be SO good at that! Thanks Emma! :)
The first two Paranormal Activity movies take place in Carlsbad, CA, the city next to mine. I recently bought the whole collection of those movies, and they are kind of a guilty pleasure for me, too. I was glad to see "Happy Death Day" on your top 20 list! I love it, and I have seen it multiple times now. I really liked The Purge: Anarchy, because it expanded on the concept of the first one and seemed a lot more flushed out , and because it took the story beyond the confines of a house. Is Us not a Blumhouse film? If it were, it would be on my list. Another one that was not on your list but would be on mine is the 2018 sequel to Halloween. I loved how it pretended that all the other sequels never happened and instead focused on Laurie Strode and her determination to take Michael Myers down.
love love LOVE this list. Paranormal Activity is one of my fav movies of all time so I'm so proud you put it where you did! Also haven't seen a few of these so thank you for the recs
Great video Emma. Congrats on the rotten tomatoes request. You gotta go for that because we need better critics on that site and we’ve already got drumdrums.
Loved this video. I don't think you should apologize for anything at all. This is your ranking of all their movies. It's totally okay if someone doesn't agree with you. I enjoyed seeing how you ranked them and it made me think about why I agreed or disagreed.
Sometimes I just forget that Blumhouse exists and now I come across all these movies I like that were produced by them :p surprise surprise! From your top 5 worst I have only seen MA and, yeah, that movie was disappointing. My own top 7 would be: 1. The Invisible Man - This movie was just damn fantastic to me. 2. Happy Death Day - I love the concept and the characters. An easy pick. 3. The Hunt - Bloody brilliant. 4. Get Out - A more serious movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Went in blind, which was such a great idea. 5. Creep - This movie literally creeped me out. It was so well done. 6. Hush - Thrilling and exciting. I really liked this one as well. 7. Oculus - This movie has grown on me and knows how to make you connect with the characters and get just as confused. Most of the other movies of the list I either haven't watched, or it was too long ago to be judged properly, I think.
Agree with the majority of your choices Emma, especially 13 sins and upgrade, get out though I thought was underwhelming but we all have our own opinions so all good. Have you done an 80s movie countdown like this please? Love the channel and your reviews 👌
I agree with you on hating to rank movies. I usually have 1-2 peak favs per genre, but than like 20 something over favorites that are favs for different reasons.
get out and the purge have a soft spot in my heart but my absolute favourite would have to be hush, i can't count the amount of times i've rewatched it and anything with john gallagher jr in is instantly a favourite in my eyes
@@spookyastronauts literally the only film to scare me since I watched The Exorcist as a teenager. I've only been able to watch it three times because I have nightmares for a week after. Lol.
Not gonna lie, when I saw you placed some of my favorite Blumhouse films lower than I expected, I was quite curious what your top 10 was gonna be, and wow do I have respect! Some of those films I didn't even realize were blumhouse (get out, creep, etc.) and those are easily some favorites of mine! I was also a huge fan of the paranormal activity movies as well so I get where you're coming from on those! Oh and I'm also hyped for creep 3!!
I am so happy that you mentioned Maryters cause I was so bleeping angry to hear it had a remake!! I refuse to touch it and now want to go the original cause it is such a masterpiece. I love your reviews so much and when you rank stuff it really helps me find gems i've never seen ^.^
I'm in agreement with you on number one. Paranormal Activity undeniably had a massive effect on society for about a decade. Personally it scared the heck out of me and I loved it! Couldn't sleep right for a week! Some people think it's boring and that's fair. For me personally it was amazing!
It makes me a little sad that you already know you're going to get people arguing with you that you have to keep giving warnings. One of the (many) reasons I love your content is because we do not always agree. I think that's good. That's where discussion happens and how as horror viewers we can have that push-and-pull and how recommendations happen. Anyway, Paranormal Activity and Insidious are both in my favorite all-time films, so I'm with you there. :)
Just found your channel lol. In my opinion Upgrade is the Venom movie we deserved, starring mini Tom Hardy. Glad I found it in your list, i think I have similar taste in horror/ Thriller with you.
You're not alone! The Visit, Green Inferno - underrated. Insidious 3 - best of the franchise. Lords of Salem - WONDERFUL, Zombie's best by far. But yeah, where is Oculus? And I guess I'll finally have to watch Creep and The Gift.
Hi, don't apologize for your tastes lol i knew Paranormal Activity will get at least a top 5 in your list since you said always watch Paranormal 1 and 2.. and you listed no.2 so i knew no.1 was going to be high on your list. Thanks for this list and all your videos, they are helpful :)
I didn't realize the first two Paranormal activity films were polarizing. I loved both. Admittedly I was able to see the first movie before most people knew it existed. I feel the same about Insidious. Good video. My opinion varies in a few areas (I actually didn't think Mercy was that bad, UNLESS you look at it as an adaptation of the actual story by King. Like many of his adaptations, it wanders too far afield) but for the most part where we have both seen a film, I usually agree. I somehow didn't realize Green Inferno was loosely based on Cannibal Holocaust. And yes, Upgrade is Sci-Fi Horror just as much as Alien. I don't understand how anyone would say otherwise.
Girl, stop apologizing for your opinions! They're totally valid! Screw any of the haters....

Great Rob Zombie Film! But his best movies are The Devil's Rejects, 31 and his Halloween remake.🤷♂️
The Purge and all its sequels hold a very special place in my heart, since I can watch them over and over again and never get bored 🙌🏻
Yeah, I love ‘em. :)
And this didn't even touch the Blumhouse TV movies from Hulu's Into the Dark series which deserve their own ranking as well
I LOVE those movies!!
Been waiting for a list like this! Thanks Emma! My Top 5 is 5. Insidious 4. Sweetheart 3. The Hunt 2. The Invisible Man 1. Sinister
Nice!!!
I would have guessed Creep was your number one! Also, I loved that you talked about The Gift, I have watched that movie 3 times and still love it. I haven’t watched paranormal activity in years, but you have inspired me to give it a rewatch!
Hell yeah! Thanks Jordan, you always leave the best comments
Insidious should have been higher up and I don’t blame you for having paranormal activity as your #1! Love your content.
Buttttt I liked the others more, but thank you! 😝
Thanks so much Ryan!
Black Christmas 2019 is easily my least favorite Blumhouse movie and I don’t think it’s ever going to be dethroned
Leigh Whannell. James Wan. Joel Edgerton. The kids in The Visit...
So many Aussies in top tier Blumhouse.
I like.
Me in the comments:
"Where is It Follows on this list?! "
It's not even Blumhouse
This was great. I always learn so much from your reviews. I've lost track of how many great films I've seen thanks to you. You're my go-to horror critic
There is a reason that Blumhouse is that horror production, every time they make a good movie they seemed to be contractually obligated to make 2 bad ones. Blumhouse has made some truly great movies and if they can actually get consistent they could be a respected horror productions company.
My favorites: Get Out, Halloween, Creep 1 &2, Hush, Split, Ouija 2, Occulus, Happy Death Day, Insidious movies (except 4), and the Town that Dreaded Sun Down remake.
the ok: Ma, Dark Skies, and the Visitor
good of nonhorror: BlacKKKlansman, Upgrade, the Gift, and Whiplash
Worst of what I watched: Unfriended 2, the Purge, Truth or Dare, and Sinister 2 there are a ton of bad ones I haven't watched of Blumhouse
Thanks for sharing Aaron!
Totally agreed with the town that dreaded sundown remake so unappreciated!
Sinister
Oculus
The Purge
The Conjuring
The Conjuring 2
Insidious
Paranormal Activity
The Lords of Salem
The Purge: Anarchy
Creep
Unfriended
The Green Inferno
Paranormal Activity 4
Hush
Split
Get Out
Happy Death Day
The Hunt
Cam
Upgrade
Edit after watching: I can't believe I haven't seen The Gift.
Omg please watch the gift!!!
It's REALLY good. Highly recommended.
Great video as always Emma !! 👍
Thanks Benny
I love your list! Some standouts for me -
Insidious: Chapter 3 works for me too!
_talking about horror movies and thrillers anything dark and disturbing movie recommendations, I'm your girl_
Say no more 😌 *subscribed*
I loved this video, Emma! Wish you made it multiple parts so we could get to see your rankings on the movies that were left out
Thanks for the feedback
I just love how you speak YOUR truths & say what you personally find the best regardless of the general opinions! Love to see it👏🏻
Yes!!! I agree about paranormal activity. Has such high rewatchability! I always include it on my favorites! Your lists are *chef’s kiss*
Thank you Jena!
people who hate paranormal activity are lying to themselves idc what anyone says LOL i love this list!!
😂😂😂🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I swear, horror fans don't appreciate when they have it good.
paranormal activity gave me nightmares and i had to sleep w/ a light on for like 2 months str8 but i think the marked ones is my favourite and idky
🙏🏼
I had few differences of opinion with your Top 20 (not many). However, we are in total agreement with the bottom five.
You do a great job. Keep up the great work!
Knowing you and following your channel for a while, I think your favorite is Paranormal Activity?
That's Blumhouse, right?
👻👻👻
Don't apologize Emma! This is your channel and you can say whatever you want. I also love Paranormal Activity, even though it gets shade. I've seen practically every movie on your list, found some new ones!
The Gift is by Blumhouse? huh, that is good stuff, in short, the lesson this movie teaches you is... Don't be a jerk.
Oh god it’s haunting!
Lol
I’m happy to see lots of my own faves on this one! Like for instance The Gift was probably the most pleasant surprising movie I’ve watched in a long time! 😀
Creep and Creep 2 also pleasantly surprised me! And a big Leigh Whannel fan as well. Very talented guy😎
Thanks for sharing and tell all the dummies that give u crap to take a leap 😉
Haha thanks dark demon queen!
What with working the night shift and all😉
I'm really glad Creep was in your top 10! It was filmed in my hometown and has such a special place in my heart
I watched Sinister just the other day for the first time, actually on a rainy day, with the sun going down during it and it had many very haunting moments, I was impressed.
Wow that’s the perfect setting
That Martyrs remake was an affront to the universe. The nerve, to take something so brutal and beautiful and sterilize it - woof.
Added a few movies to my list to watch for the first time and a few to rewatch.
been looking for a channel like this. thanks for not spoiling the movies.
Saw Mercy when it first came out with my Grandma. She LOVES terrible horror movies and she said Mercy was too stupid.
Yes, yes, yes!!! "Ma" was crap, thank God someone finally said it! I feel like everyone rated it way higher than it deserved.
I'm so happy you included Belko Experiment! Love that movie!
Talking spooky stuff is one of my favorite spooky things to do! lol
Hell yeah!
Upgrade and The Gift are the most underrated movies on this list and I love both of them and I’m glad they are on your list
I agree but I'm also surprised that "Hush" or "Us" was not on her list. But I get we all have different tastes in horror movies.
@@irelandevr4046 was hush and and US blumhouse productions? If so im surprised as well.
love love LOVE this list.
So glad you brought up "Hocus Pocus"!
I was looking at the actress thinking... I know her! You're right! She DOES NOT age! Oh, Alison!
Loved this video. I don't think you should apologize for anything at all. This is your ranking of all their movies. It's totally okay if someone doesn't agree with you. I enjoyed seeing how you ranked them and it made me think about why I agreed or disagreed.
Nice list, my favorites are Halloween, Green Inferno, Get Out and Split.
Sometimes I just forget that Blumhouse exists and now I come across all these movies I like that were produced by them :p surprise surprise! From your top 5 worst I have only seen MA and, yeah, that movie was disappointing.
My own top 7 would be:
Hush is great
Great list! And your # 1 is the same as mine! Scares me every time!
Omg yess! I didn’t realise you were such a fan!
Thanks Adam!! Nice to know im not alone!
Thank you so much Bree. Very nice comment
Awesome channel! My list is:
1. The Invisible Man,
2. Upgrade,
3. Insidious Chapter 3,
4. Happy Deathday,
5. Sinister
So happy you included the Creep movies- love them both!!!
Glad to see Lords Of Salem get some love. Definitely my favourite Rob Zombie film, and along with It Follows, my favourite horror movie of the decade
I was looking for a blumhouse ranking the other day! I’m excited to check this ranking out.
