I’ve been shooting with a 7D , stills and now diving pretty deep into videography, couldn’t understand why my videos were the way they are , and you’ve explained this so well! I thought I was the problem ( it probably is me ). Legend!
I'm mainly a stills photographer and use the 7D, the main thing that attracted me was the 100% viewfinder, before that I was using a 40D. I love the look and feel of a dslr and a real optical viewfinder over other systems, though I also sometimes use a Lumix LX100 if I want to travel light and fast. The image quality from the 7D is more than good enough, most photographers just share their photography online anyway! "The photographer is the instrument not the camera" - Eve Arnold
I'm a hobby photographer and usually use bridge cameras for Simplicity or sometimes compact cameras for convenience but a few months ago I decided to invest in DSLR cameras for versitiliy because when using a bridge camera you can select the iso settings you have very little control over the appature and shutter speed as those are controlled to some extent the scene mode that you select in the build in menus and whatever the camera decides so the picture doesn't always come out the way that you want it to I started off by getting an older but very affordable canon 1000D that was very close weight wise that I am used to with bridge cameras then a few weeks later by pure luck came across a cheap canon 7D mark II that I just had to snap up because they are an as absolutely great camera that are extremely well Built even if they are quite a bit Heavier than the standard canon cameras I consider the trade off to be worth it the strange thing with me is I like different kinds of cameras but the two that I absolutely cannot stand are phone cameras and those tiny dinky action cameras I don't consider either type To be a proper camera I suppose it's because I am old school and got interested n photography back in the early 80s when film Cameras ruled and only started to take it back up after a 22 year break in the early 2000s because I came to a point where film was dissapering and affordable digital cameras were not quite up to snuff unless you dropped a ton of money on a high end professional camera that at that time had half decent sensors

I got one in August. I don't know why when I have it in Manual mode it will take pics at other shutter speeds than what I set it at? It's frustrating and time consuming.
@@madsciencefilms Wow, I just typed my question into search and "Bing" came up with a plausible answer, which I thought might have something to do with it. It may be because I have Auto-Bracketing enabled. "one possible reason why your Canon EOS 7D changes shutter speed in manual mode is that you have enabled auto-bracketing. This feature allows you to take multiple shots with different exposure settings, usually by changing the shutter speed between frames"
I'm bringing my old 7D out of retirement for some hairy work around water. I have only ever used it for stills and I want to get a bigger CF card with shooting video in mind. Do you have any idea what the maximum compatible card size is? I'm having a surprisingly hard time finding that answer.
@@madsciencefilms Wonderful! Thank you for that information, it is much appreciated. It is some dodgy filming, indeed! Canoe trip from a canoe. 😆 It'll be fun, though. Just ordered a 128gb card. A few smaller ones would be safer, but this saves me keeping track of all the cards. Thanks again!
I was trying to do some video work in live view mode and i couldnt get the camera to autofocus on things of different distances.I think you said thr is no continues auto focus on this camera. Is that correct, its a total bummer if it doesnt do it.All old handycams did this as soon as you hit the record button.I was able to get focus oat different distances doing it manually but that sucks
I’m not familiar with the digitek mics. Check all volume levels (camera and mic) and make sure there’s no clipping. The camera set to -12db. Hope that helps.
Thank you very much for the video! I have been using this camera in ethnography film project and totally love the colours. I have been meaning to upgrade because I would like to use higher ISO and have a bit of stabilisation (not digital) but couldn’t really find an option that would have such nice colours. (For example, Sony a7 colours are just too acid for me, and Canon c100 or c300 are big and hard to carry around). I would really appreciate if you could recommend me an upgrade! Thank you so much again!
Hi, thanks for your comment. Budget plays a part with this question. Money no issue then go for Sony A7s III - this a spectacular camera for low light video shooting and body stabilisation and has amazing AF. £1000 and below then maybe look at the S5 original - has really good low light capabilities and body stabilisation plus, in my opinion, amazing colour science. Sub £500 perhaps look at the GH5 in the secnid hand market - Has decent low light paired with fast lenses, incredible body stabilisation (paired with optical stabilised lenses you can gimbal like shots) and lovely colours. Hope this helps.
Thank you sooo much for your detailed reply! I have been actually thinking about sticking to canon because of the colours and almost decided to get Canon 5d mkiv and then get an IBIS lens. Have you ever tried shooting with it? Thanks again!
Sorry, I forgot to say that my budget is around £2000 for a camera+lens. I also own ronin but frankly prefer holding the camera in my hands and can’t get used to the feeling of using ronin :(

Very interesting is, that Matthew Libatique used the 7D and I think the 1D Mark IV for a couple of shots for Black Swan
Ah cool. Will look into this. Thanks for your comment.
I use the canon 7D with magic lantern for raw video in 2023
Amazing
In your opinion beetween 7 D or GH4 wich Is Better for the video with look cinema?
@@giuseppebonelli GH4 with blackmagic and speedbooster

Built even if they are quite a bit
Heavier than the standard canon cameras I consider the trade off to be worth it the strange thing with me is I like different kinds of cameras but the two that I absolutely cannot stand are phone cameras and those tiny dinky action cameras I don't consider either type To be a proper camera I suppose it's because I am old school and got interested n photography back in the early 80s when film

Would have been nice to see some video shot with the 7D as a comparison
Comparison to which camera? There are a couple of shots of the 7D HD footage.

what AI software do you recommend?
I would like to second this question! My major concern about Canon 7d is lack of stabilisation.
How's your experience been with overheating? Very interested in this camera, but I'd mostly be buying it for long form concert videography.
None that I’ve experienced. I’m not sure if the 29 minute record limit can be removed via external recorder or magic lantern for long form videos???

Sounds like it’s either in full auto or in aperture priority?

Canon T5 o 7D ?

That’s some risky shooting lol. The maximum capacity for the Canon 7D is 128gb.

might be a dumb question - might’ve been answered in the video and i just looked over it - what camera did you use to film this video?
Not a dumb question at all. This was shot on the Lumix S5 with the Sigma 28-70.
Good stuff mate
Hi, I’ve recently bought a 7D from MPB, I was wondering, do you get a CF card with it?
Mine did not come with a CF, but there maybe some that do. I know MPB throw in extra batteries sometimes, so it’s worth checking.
thanks for the help
Is this still going to stand up in 24 against the new iPhones etc?
In my opinion, yes. Even though resolution may not be as much, the overall quality will be better.
@@madsciencefilms thanks man! Great content 👏🏼

The GH2.

My only records for 6 seconds y?
If it’s magic lantern hack then you’ll need to make sure you’re shooting too high a resolution
