I started with the 40D and then in 2009 I saved and bought the 7D. I was doing a lot of action sports photography and it had VIDEO! Which at the time was huge. I moved and put it away in a plastic box. I took it out only once to do a photo shoot, products for a good friend starting a business. It went back in the box for the last five years. I’ve just pulled it out cuz all of a sudden I got the photography itch. Been playing around with it for the last three weeks and I forgot how much I love this thing. It’s just a GOOD solid camera. I’m not sure I’d ever part with it.
I have two 7Ds. I shoot with professional and they're great. One, 7D is built like a tank. Many of new cameras out now are not as rugged, unless you spend $ 4,000 to $5,000 on the body alone. Price point is so low. You can one for $200 for only body and sometimes they offer batteries, lens and batteries. That's great price for a professional camera. It does have some draw-back. The dynamic range sucks for video. . The dynamic range for photography is okay it can shoot wedding, headshots, portraits, editorials, sports, and wildlife with no problems. It can make you some money. It depends on the photographer. Anyway, great video.
Wow, glad to hear that you are still using your 7D cameras and that you are still happy with them. :-) Yeah, with the old technology, there are certain limitations with lowlight, dynamic range in certain cases.. But for the price, you can't really go wrong with still such a capable camera that is still very reliable, tough and still output good results. Thank you so much for watching and also for sharing your story/experience, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Thanks! In my experience, the 7D color science is the best of all the Canon DSLRs I own or have owned (300D, 450D, 50D, 80D, 5DII, 6DII, 5DIV, R6). And I have not noticed that the image of this camera is soft.
This is great. I've just picked up a 7D (as well as a 20D), after using an EOS Digital Rebel for over 20 years. I have an awful lot to learn, but this is a very helpful overview. Thanks for posting this!
Congrats on the camera, I am sure you'll create great results with it. :-) Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Beautiful camera....i never had a 7d but this video makes me wanna go out and get one rn as they're super cheap in my country. 5D mark ii was one of my first cameras which i bought back in the day which taught me so much about photography...now i use an a6000 and my 5d mk ii with magic lantern as my B cam. 5D mark ii is literally insane in 2022 cuz it literally shoots 2k raw video! Anyways keep up the great work man... always supporting you❤️
Wow, 5d mark ii! That camera is still a great camera and I too am still using it as well! Yeah, the 7d is a great and tough camera and also can be found for a very low price nowadays. :-) Magic lantern also works on the 7d if you're interested. :-) Thank you so much for watching and also for sharing your story as well as for the support! Really means a lot! :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Thank you for this video! So incredibly helpful and informative. Currently a hobbyist photographer, using an s22 ultra and definitely looking to get my first dslr. Thinking this would be a great choice!
I would definitely say this makes a great first DSLR. Saw it recently for around £130-140 with original packaging, so I'm sure it'll be cheaper without the manual/box!
I started with the legendary 550d, sold it..divorced…just found a 20d and I love it, but now I really want a 7D. Is there any other model I should consider? I thought I wanted full frame, but maybe not, looked at a 6D, 70d or 77d any good? Also magic lantern?
DAVID after watching your video I want that camera , I do not have one now but now I know witch one I want , thanks for the inspiration. IM IN COLORADO USA
I am glad to hear that my video really inspired you to wanting to get this camera! :-) That said, please also see if this camera really suits your needs since there are indeed many great cameras out there but if at the end of the day the camera does not suit your needs then it would be quite a waste of investment as well. But if you've already decided that this is the camera that you want and it suits your needs (at least for the most part), then go for it. It really is still a great camera that is reliable and still output great results. Hope that helps. :-) I thank you very much for watching as well as for the kind words, very much appreciated. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
HI David, this is Roland from Hildesheim Germany, last time it was about the 550D, and now, well I bought a 7D Mark II for 330€ in very decent condition and I love it. Plus battery grip, necessary because the 7D II runs through the batteries rather fast, three more lenses and a bunch of other stuff. Plus ofcourse the 7D II is very good on fast moving objects. I was in Hannover recently (Nanashooting) to shoot a bunch of the motives you showed in this movie myself. One point I really enjoy on the crop sensor is, the ability to use EF glas, which comes in very handy when using tele lenses (times 1,6). Other than that, comparing it to the new mirrorless bodies, I don't know what to miss, everything is there and additional weight for me is good to have, unless it stabilizes the setup quite a bit. I have looked at the new bodies. For me they are simply small and flimsy. The 550D is still there of course and guess what in video mode it also provides 1980 x 1080 like the 7D II, and is perfect as backup or for camera sliders unless lightweight. I plan on setting up a youtube channel myself, (pharmacology and drug safety) and I plan on using the 7D for that, which I figured is all you need for that purpose. So one more subscriber and maybe we meet in Hannover, when you are around. I will get in touch.
Hi Roland, yes of course I remember you! :-) My channel is very small, so remembering my viewers isn't hard and also, you are probably the only viewer of mine from the lower saxony area. :-) First off, congratulations on getting a 7d mark ii, especially for that price!! It is still a great camera and the one I've also been looking to have but haven't find any luck with under 400 euros yet... I remember using that camera when it first came out way back about eight years ago. I really loved it a lot and the dual pixel autofocusing system in live-view and video mode is just so accurate and reliable. Even though I mainly shoot with full frame back then but I really wish that some of the features from the 7d mark ii made it into my 5d mark iii cameras at the time... Really brings back a lot of memories... :-) I also think the 1080p videos are still very relevant and the 7d mark ii has more than sharp enough quality to deliver, especially when I think many media consumers are going back to 1080p as more and more people really consume media through mobile devices rather than desktop computers or laptops... Furthermore, the video files from the 7d mark ii can still be colour corrected and graded to quite a certain extent. That combine with all the features in photography mode still really make this camera such a versatile camera to use and I am sure you'll produce great results with it! :-) Yeah, that would actually be cool if we could meet in Hannover! :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls Hey David, not exactly the only viewer from lower saxony, I live near Osnabrück and have been enjoying your videos quite a bit lately! Keep them coming :) Matthias
I just got one for 160€. It came with a 28-135mm lens, 64Gb memory card, a tripod, and a new camera bag. The shutter count on this one is about 21500, which I think is fine for years to come in my use.
I was looking for a very cheap camera for sports/wildlife as I don't shoot either very often and was looking out for a 7d. Just managed to get mine for £159 delivered including battery grip with 33k actuations. I have some nice full frame L glass so I'm excited to try it out soon. Nice thorough video.
Just got myself one for £159 with just over 9k shutter actuations. Debated between this and the 5D mk2 but decided on the 7D as it handles sports better plus a bit extra on the zoom as it’s apsc.
Interesting and very good review! Thanks. Quick question about the color rendition. You mention that it differs from modern Canons. I have noticed that as well with other old-school Canons vs new R-models. I feel the default color signature in the older models is bolder, more vivid and...this is personal I guess - a bit more "eye pleasing" (for anyone who prefers technicolor :-). What is your feedback regarding that?
I use my Canon 1Dx Mark 2 for in home video/photography, but when I photography my motorcycle rides, I use my 7D since is so much lighter than the 1Dx. Plus, the 7D lenses also work perfectly with my Canon C100 Mark 2. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Hello, Nice video. I have had a 7d for more than ten years and it has proven to be a very reliable and tough camera. It has been criticised for producing softish images and I have never found a solution to that. As an aside can I respectfully ask why so many RUclipsrs insist on having distracting musak in the background? It serves no purpose and, frankly, drives me nuts.
I bought this when it was released and kept it ever since, I will never sell it. Today the value for money ratio is crazy for this body, absolutely fabulous, its a tank that delivers pro quality images if you know how to work the gear. The strongest negave is that ISO noise is a bit too high for my taste above 800. But its still OK as long as you do not pixel peep too hard (clients nornaly do not, its almost aways photographers who are obsessed with this).
Yeah, I really agree with you that the value for money is really crazy especially considering how tough/reliable this camera is as well as the capabilities and the image quality that it still delivers. You're right, iso 800 is very noisy but clients won't really notice it. I don't think we have to pixel peep though to see the noise at iso 800, it's just photographers are used to seeing the images from a certain perspectives as well as its flaws that it just pops up to the mind and eyes even before pixel peeping. I think that if one would pixel peep, then the 7d gets noisy at iso 200 but without, you can clearing see it at between iso 800 - 1000 and clients will start noticing them with iso 1600 in my experience. That said, if you know the cameras limitations as well as know how to work with all the settings of the camera, then you can really produce great results with this camera that would still be more than good enough even for today's standards. I thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your story and experience, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I actually just sold all my Sony gear, (a7iii body and some lenses) and bought a used 7D again, originally bought a 7D new when it came out. Going back to simpler shooting times. I was never disappointed with the 7D. But I don’t really do video work and photographically the 7D always did what I needed it to do and it did it great.
Yeah, the 7d is still a reliable camera that still outputs great results. I also got my 7d when it first came out but later sold it to upgrade to the 5d mark iii. But managed to get the 7d again soon after that because I really love it so much and still love using it today. It is both simple yet still capable to use and it just works right away. There is also a bit of charm I find using this camera as well. Thank you very much for sharing your story, very much appreciated and I am sure you've produced many great results with the 7D already. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! Happy holidays! :-)
@@DavidCuhls yeah my second body is a 5dii but I'm considering getting a battered 1dx mk 1 since they are sold at bargain low prices. They will work forever even if they look used and abused, if a shutter fail they are easily replaced.
I had a 7D...sold it. The worst decision I ever made...really miss it! I traded it out for a 70D because of the focus system. It's an ok camera, but nothing like the 7D! :) I also have a 6D. Love it...but when I worked profesinally as a photographer I used the 5D MK2. I just bougth one for 180!! USD! And it's in mint condision! Ok, it's 15 years old, but the pictuers coming out of it are not less gooood. :)
I bought a 7D mk I a few months ago, second hand with only 2700 exposures, being in excellent conditions ,at a price below 200 EURO. Actually, I didn't need this camera, I use a 6d mk II as my first camera. However, I couldn't resist when I found this 7d offered for sale by a very serious dealer of new and second-hand camera equipment. My 7d works perfectly with all the lenses I already had, Canon 100L macro, Sigma 150-600, Sigma 100-400 ,Sigma 24-105, Laowa 100 macro 2x. 7d has very good ergonomics, I feel it very well in my hand, I do not regret this purchase at all. Because I needed a wide lens, for only 120 EURO I bought a Canon 10-18 for my 7d. Together ,7D and 10-18 do an excellent job. On the photo performance, I have nothing to complain to this camera, taking into consideration the constructive characteristics and age of course. Video performance did not interest me at all.
Congratulations on getting the camera, I am sure you've produced great results with it already. :-) Yeah, the price of this camera is getting really low nowadays but the capabilities of this camera is still great. The crop sensor also makes it versatile with finding lenses on a budget as well. It is reliable and works nicely when complement the setup with the full frame sensor. I think you have a good setup there as well. Thank you so much for watching as well as for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Unless your livelihood depends on it then it's crazy to buy the latest high-end cameras. For most enthusiastic amateurs cameras got good enough 10 years ago. Good cameras don't become bad cameras just because technology moves on, just like great old images don't become terrible just because Sony introduce a 45Mp sensor. Idiot - "I used to love Cartier-Bresson's photos but my new $3000 Sony has much better dynamic range than Bresson's old camera". The 5D mk2 is $300 The amazing 6D mk1 is $350 (bargain of the decade) The 7D mk1 is $200 I mean... why wouldn't you buy a 6D for $350??
Being a budget user getting older DSLR cameras is the only Way for me to get a DSLR camera at a price that I am prepared to pay for pre owned or brand new as practically every new DSLR camera cost around 600 pound although is quite a good price for a DSLR but is still way more than what am prepared to spend on a camera but these days you can get nice quality ones for 200 pound or less Which is what i am more comfortable paying for a camera i was lucky enough to get a 7D mark ll by pure chance i went to a store that i go to every couple of months checking out what photo equipment that they had When the D7 mark ll caught my eye as it was only at the top price that i like to pay for any camera pre owned or brand new which for me making it a rare find but a welcome one
Hi, great vids my friend. Help me decide buying a camera, ive got eos m50, sony a6000, eos 7d mark I and eos 2000d (t7) all of these options. Please help me decide which one do I go for. Im mainly going to use it for photography not much video needs.
Congrats on getting the camera, I am sure you'll produce great results with it! :-) Yeah, it is an upgrade to the Rebel xt both interns of image quality and capabilities. Thank you very much for watching and for sharing your story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Would this be good as a beginner camera? And if so what lens would you recommend for it? Ive been just shooting with my drone and recently started getting into portrait shooting, street and nature photography but Im not fully confident yet so I wanna start with this, Ive seen some for sale for around 300$ second hand and I'm kinda interested but I'm unsure cause it is an old camera and Im not familiar with manual settings yet and I don't wanna end up selling a kidney for the new Canon models
I really like the look of video from my 7D. Using wide apertures indoors looks amazing, almost straight out of the camera. It can be tricky to match with newer canon video, but the look is great. I still have a Canon 5D mkIII too. Those two cameras are fantastic cameras to keep for multi angle shoots or to use for secondary lenses.
Hi . My viewfineder still stock at blurr grainy even battery already inserted and camera on..can you help me whats the problem on my electronic viewfinder..
To me, 7D is quite significantly better in terms of iso noise. Just a little bit better for details/sharpness/color. 60D is inferior in ever way but not far.
Thanks for watching and also for the comment, really appreciated it! I am glad you found it useful. :-) I with you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Love these my thoughts, video format, and yeah the digital tv videos where they try to destroy the camera are great its truly built like a tank. Could you do one on a 6d mark ii. But anyway awesome content keep it going.
Thank you so much for watching and also for the compliment, really means a lot! :-) I will for sure keep improvement and creating more of these contents. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
I bought this when it came out, I have today watched a couple of your videos and have totally enjoyed them, your way of explaining is obvious I look forward to your new courses in the future I will follow are these free?
Thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your story and kind words, really means a lot. :-) Regarding the courses, I am working on online photography courses. There will be some free ones and some paid. I am just trying to inspire people to do photography but also would be nice to create a community where everyone can help each other as well. :-) Thank you so much again for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
The f/stop doesn’t impact autofocus of any camera. That determines how much light enters the camera and how much depth of field you get to see. Kinda like squinting your eyes. If your shutter speed is slow and shooting handheld or shouting moving objects you increase risk for blur.
I would say 2500 iso for personal work (maybe with simple noise reduction). However, for professional work, I would not go higher than 1600. Even with 1600, you will see noice but of course, it's not always apparent depending on the lighting situations. I hope that helps. I thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Many place really depending on the region of the world you’re at. You can always look on different secondhand websites like eBay, MBP, KEH, and so many more. Many camera stores will also sell a lot of nice older DSLRs as well. So just really search around. Hope that’s helps! :-) Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls thanks David. By the can you have a video that you can lie down all your body and then another video all the lenses you on each brand. Love to see it.
Depends what you mean by better? For most people phone cameras are enough for their needs. A camera like this is far more versatile, the ability to change lenses gives you a lot more freedom to capture any subject in almost any situation. Whereas a phone, with only a couple of fixed lenses has its limits.
If the camera no longer serves your needs then yeah, looking at another camera might be nice. The 90D is actually quite nice, much better dynamic range, the noise also looks so much better, not only higher resolution but much sharper sensor that is able to produce more details as well. The body and construction is also solid and that touch screen actually allows for much faster operation. The autofocusing system is also much more accurate than the 7d for both photography and video. So I'd say if your current 7D doesn't really deliver the quality that you want and you would like more out of the camera yet still maintaining fast speed shooting in a tough DSLR size body, then the 90D would be a great option (even the 80D would already be much better in terms of image quality/AF and video). :-)

What are you using now? For sporting events?
Would this be one you would recommend for street photography?
Epic Commentary David.
The 5D mk2 is $300
The amazing 6D mk1 is $350 (bargain of the decade)
The 7D mk1 is $200
I mean... why wouldn't you buy a 6D for $350??
its fucking heavy 800g+ 600g lens 1.5kg total in hand while clicking aircrafts. but its damn durable and nice
Being a budget user getting older DSLR cameras is the only
Way for me to get a DSLR camera at a price that I am prepared to pay for pre owned or brand new as practically every new DSLR camera cost around 600 pound although is quite a good price for a DSLR but is still way more than what am prepared to spend on a camera but these days you can get nice quality ones for 200 pound or less Which is what i am more comfortable paying for a camera i was lucky enough to get a 7D mark ll by pure chance i went to a store that i go to every couple of months checking out what photo equipment that they had
When the D7 mark ll caught my eye as it was only at the top price that i like to pay for any camera pre owned or brand new which for me making it a rare find but a welcome one
Thanks for the info!
Hi, great vids my friend. Help me decide buying a camera, ive got eos m50, sony a6000, eos 7d mark I and eos 2000d (t7) all of these options. Please help me decide which one do I go for. Im mainly going to use it for photography not much video needs.
I just ordered mine for $169 from Adorama. Quite a step up from the Rebel xt I have.
Hi . My viewfineder still stock at blurr grainy even battery already inserted and camera on..can you help me whats the problem on my electronic viewfinder..
canon eos 7d or 60d for the image quality (details), which u suggest?
To me, 7D is quite significantly better in terms of iso noise. Just a little bit better for details/sharpness/color. 60D is inferior in ever way but not far.
Bought one for
great review. thanks.
Thank you so much for watching and also for the compliment, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Great insights! Thanks!
question how many mm does this camera have my photography class requires 55mm but i cant find it in specs
what?
I bought this when it came out, I have today watched a couple of your videos and have totally enjoyed them, your way of explaining is obvious I look forward to your new courses in the future I will follow are these free?
Thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your story and kind words, really means a lot. :-) Regarding the courses, I am working on online photography courses. There will be some free ones and some paid. I am just trying to inspire people to do photography but also would be nice to create a community where everyone can help each other as well. :-) Thank you so much again for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
Go for 7D if you need fast shutter. 60D is more towards videos 👍 .
Hello. I have a question. Can this camera use autofocus with a slow lens, like F8? Like an 70-300 F4-5.6 lens+1.4 converter? Thank you.
The f/stop doesn’t impact autofocus of any camera. That determines how much light enters the camera and how much depth of field you get to see. Kinda like squinting your eyes. If your shutter speed is slow and shooting handheld or shouting moving objects you increase risk for blur.
No higher than 2500 iso for stills, the info I was looking for, thx a lot. I'll try 😊
I do Sunsets, Landscapes, Birds, And been using the T100 Cheapest one. Upgrading to either 60D or 7D ? I am thinking 7D ? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP
Go for 7D. It can shoot 8 frames on once. 60D is more towards videos.
Canon 7d or 760d?
Great Camera,I have one bought in 2012 and still going strong 😂
Where can you buy kind of smooth old dslrs?
Many place really depending on the region of the world you’re at. You can always look on different secondhand websites like eBay, MBP, KEH, and so many more. Many camera stores will also sell a lot of nice older DSLRs as well. So just really search around. Hope that’s helps! :-) Thank you very much for watching, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)
@@DavidCuhls thanks David. By the can you have a video that you can lie down all your body and then another video all the lenses you on each brand. Love to see it.
What kind lens was attach on your 7d?
In the video, that looks like a Canon EOS 35mm 1.4 L USM (Mark I).
E' il 16-35mm f/4L IS USM , si vede bene al minuto 1:20
Good insights......
How is this any better than my mobile phone pixel 7 ?
Depends what you mean by better? For most people phone cameras are enough for their needs. A camera like this is far more versatile, the ability to change lenses gives you a lot more freedom to capture any subject in almost any situation. Whereas a phone, with only a couple of fixed lenses has its limits.
Its just like a 50D but better
They made the first avengers on this
❤🔥
I just hate my video lol 😂
Your video? You mean the video you shot with the 7D?
@@DavidCuhls yeah I think it’s time to upgrade? I don’t know maybe a 90d since I hear it’s a great fantastic alternative
@@DavidCuhls I’ve didn’t think of the 80d I will look into that too now thank you so much I’m much more confident now appreciate it
