My dad bought a dead condition 70D late 2020 for $96 (With a physical condition that is still very good and without a vignetting LCD + Battery Grip included). And thank God my dad was able to fix it without having to replace the main board. Until now the 70D is still working fine and I use it as my daily main camera.
I got this Camera when it came out in 2013. I remember I was excited about the new features it proposed. Back then I used a Canon 650D and the touchscreen capability + the Wifi Direct feature really caught my attention when it was announced. Just because I'm a video guy, this camera advertised as a video camera DSLR really got my interest so I decided to buy one at that time. It was one of the best camera I've ever used and I was satisfied with it.
I always had problems with shooting video with this thing (same with the 60d). I don't know what the problem is there. I had several different types of expensive SD cards that all preacher how fast they were but always it just stopped recording randomly. The autofocus is great, and with magic lantern you can technically shoot up to 2k in raw video which is neat. It's overall a very good camera but honestly I wish that by the time I got to the 70D I just went mirrorless already.
1 year ago, I bought my Canon EOS 550D (T2i) after watching your video. Now I'm pretty deep into photography and about to buy a 70D. -Of course after watching this video
Couple this with a Sigma Art 18-35mm F1.8 and you got one of the most powerful combos out there for the 70D. Closest way to get to a log profile is to get the cinestyle color profile. If you want focus peaking for photos and videos get Magic Lantern...you can also get 14bit RAW video with ML
My first camera was a 60d, and I'd still recommend it as a first camera. Strong build, good selection of rapidly depreciating lenses, not too big, cheap. Great line.
I purchased one from a pawnshop and it has never let me down. It was in great condition and I got a great deal. I’m usually a Nikon guy, but this was well worth the crossover.
I've been using the 70D for years now, and randomly started wondering what other people say of it, which led me here. Prior to this one I had 40D, so it was a major skip in terms of photos and an even bigger one in terms of video (well duh). Since then I've moved through multiple generations of gopros, but I still like the video from the 70D. Clearly I have no idea what I'm doing, but I just really like the 70D video over the gopros if it isn't about image stabilization.
I always thought about it for the dual pixel autofocus, but then I started saving, saved enough money and got the Lumix S5. Absolutely love it. I DO need to get that EF adapter for it, I had a cheaper one and that may have been my one return to amazon aside some broken LED panel.
The S5 is a truly amazing camera, if I wasn't doing youtube I would have gotten one around the time it came out for sure. You also def want to skip on the cheap adapters if you want to use it for any form of auto-focus, I've never heard of them working well. The Metabones works well enough for me, but I heard it's majorly improved on the a7iii series
Had a pair of them back in the day, and they did the job. Had to upgrade because they struggled in low light, and only had one custom mode position. The 70d is OK for a casual mixed media cam. However, watch out if you're looking to buy, as some of them had dodgy mother boards that would suddenly crap out giving Error 80 on the back screen. It was so bad, Canon had to issue a recall…
have 2 70's when it released and still got it to this day shooting motorsport, it gets the job done, both camera are over 160k shutter clicks and still going , only one of the camera the scroll wheel rubber came off but it still works, i even shoot stuff in sligth rain and it still goes.
I know I'm late to the party, but I've had some luck with some better features, though it can be overwhelming, via Magic Lantern. I've also found a cheaper lav mic setup that gives you the headphone jack to listen to your audio. just a few other options that you can use for those extra features.
Hey, thats a great Idea. I have that Samson mic, and it has a headphone jack - but that thing is a boat anchor. Wouldn't want to do a brake job with that! I am going to check into Magic Lantern. Hopefully its not something that will cause another addiction because of my geekness propensities. (I just checked, and there does not appear to be a build for the 70D)
Older Canon APS-C DSLR (and full-frame if one _needs_ full-frame) cameras are great. I've had my 7D since its launch and I recently picked a 40D in like-new condition with a moderate shutter count, for $80. EF and EF-S glass is _abundant_ on the used market. I bought an R50 to learn mirrorless, and the flippy screen is awesome, so much so that now I'm considering picking up just one more gently loved older Canon DSLR so I can have a flippy screen in that realm. Maybe a 70D is calling me.
I chose a 70d (got it summer of 21)for 600 ish) was in mint condition and 7k shutter iirc and came with a 18-135 (which broke but got a 24-105 f4L) but got it due to ef mount, dual pixel(do photo and video) mostly photo this camera is a beast at that and lpe6 due to friends using it (loan chargers and batteries) I love this camera even though I accidentally smashed the top screen (not the flipy) the mode dial is beatup. But its my workhorse that I use and love.
So sarcastic! That camera still beats all cellphones to this day. It's a perfect starter or a keeper for casual shooters. A perfect learning learning tool for it's simplicity. 10 years ago it was revolutionary for it's specks, HD abilities, flippy screen, etc. Time is flying fast so be assured your multiK camera today will be worthless just few years from now. Respect for old but not Obsolete.
I am a bit underwhelmed by video auto focus of my 70D and 80D. It's very much praised but my camcorder kind of worked better for me. But I don't know that much about video, maybe it's because my camcorder had a very small sensor, so easier to have things in focus?
The issue is this thing is almost 1 kilogram... I had the Nikon p900 and had to sell it cause its too heavy to carry around, not good for travel imo. Canon R50 or Nikon z30 are the better options if you have the extra money.
I'm just replacing my 70D with 80D. The only reason is I want in-camera distortion correction for quick shoots of products I sell on ebay and which have a lot of parallel lines that need correction. Otherwise 70D is good enough.
And this is why you want to learned why I used magic lantern raw for canon 70D 5:50 and once you do install (canon doesn’t approve the hack software or jailbreak or unlock mode (is my favorite) this camera has dual processors and once you unlock you will be able to get more for the sensor but warning ⚠️ does get warm and must be educated in software and understanding I made videos why
My first digital camera was the Canon Eos 500D (rebel). It got on my nerves for several reasons and 6 months later I bought the 5DII which was a lot better.

Not sure why but my nikon d3500 camera with two lenses(18-55mm and 70-30mm) was purchased like 6 years ago on best buy for like 530$ and I went to check how much is worth nowaday and it's costing $675 for a renewed one with a single lens. On ebay with both lenses are selling for like $580 used. Do you know why the price didn't go down to 200 like the 70D? Please let me know if you get a chance. Thank you!
Thank you! I got the Z a while ago because I wanted a rwd v6 japanese car for a decent price. Was in decent shape when I got it barring oil leaks. Ended up deciding to get rid of it because constant problems, cooling leaks, overheating, oil leaks (everywhere), all four wheel bearings going bad, grinding in 3rd and 5th, parking brake failing, power steering pump, alternator and the list goes on haha. Love the car, not the repairs. I'm not sure about the price disparity with Nikon cameras, but I do plan on taking a closer look at them one day, I just have to do one brand at a time so I'm not pouring $2k a month into my channel that makes less than $2k a year lol.

Overall would you pick the 5d mark ii or the 70d? I want a good photography camera but I definitely want it to be able to take great videos. Or is there a better camera than those 2 for my needs?
I love my 70d but it's value seems to be going down now with brands like TTArtisan producing super cheap high quality mirrorless lenses. You'll lose lots of money buying glass for your 70D nowadays.
Just bought a 70D based off this review and a few others! 23k on the shutter and a 6-mo warranty so hoping that will protect me from the potentially bad motherboard issues people have mentioned here. I’ve been using the 5D Mark II for all my videos and while the quality is great, especially RAW video with Magic Lantern, I cannot stand manual focusing for videos. I wanted an 80D but didn’t like paying an extra $200 just to get 60FPS. If I need slo-mo I’ll just use my GoPro. Putting it on a 24-105 F/4 but with the crop I may need to get a 16-35 instead… At the end of the day, If it’s good enough for Casey Neistat then it should be good enough for me!
That's awesome! I'm still using my 70d to this day (couldn't make myself get rid of it) and haven't had any issues at all thankfully! The 80d has slightly better AF I believe, but it is insane how similar these cameras are.
I bought my 70d off of eBay about a year ago. Though it was cosmetically perfect, it went belly-up after one use. After investigating, I found out about the motherboard issue (and I luckily found out about the recall, though I feared the recall had already expired). I contacted canon and was forthright about the fact that I bought it second-hand. They triaged the issue as a recall-related mishap and I got my repaired camera back in the mail 10 days later, good as new, and without spending even a dime for shipping. Long story short: my experience is that this particular issue is not reason enough for anyone to avoid buying this camera, and it’s certainly not a reason to worry that it will fail you some day if you already own one. Canon should stand by it.
Hi. Thanks for posting it. I have canon eos 70d for some time and i like it. I have have only one lens came with the kit i.e 18-135mm I am not a professional but sill very much interested in photography. I like to street , portrait and in house photography and do like tour photography (nature, animals etc) And macro photography. Could you please suggest me affordable lens compatible with canon eos 70d and can use it for above mentioned photography. thank you.
I just bought a brand new still in the box 70D from MPB ( America ) for 349 USD - so they're out there you might have to look around a bit . Got a brand new 430ex flash for 36 USD there too .
It would be weird, when the 80d would be very different to his "father"... Its the succesor of the same line "enthusiast" apsc of canon. Stil have the 70d beside the 90d and fuji xt4, never betrayed me and will find a new home as a gift. I bought the sigma 17-50 2.8 with is for 350 Euro in 2014... It didnt really sink in price.
The good thing with this camera is, people buying this mostly for video and are not using the shutter . So you have a camera with many shots for years.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.... Why Canon adds video features to an entry level DSLR is pointless!! I understand that since DSLRs have hit the market, it's kicked the popularity of the ol' video camera in the butt but IMO, video in DSLRs should be introduced only to mid to upper end DSLRs. Leave lower end or entry level DSLRs to take just stills so the camera can do a better job of doing just that!!
If you're a beginner stills photographer, and you imagine that you'll take better pictures with a brand new, $2500 camera, you're just wrong. Start with a 70D.
Thank you! I’m a beginner and going to shoot portraits for friends and clients and dogs for a rescue I work with….. what lens(es) would you recommend… the one I am looking at has a lens that is 18-135mm
You can really tell a mirrorless snob that knows absolutely nothing about photography or DSLR cameras made this video. The title of the video is out of sync with the negative bias throughout the entire "review." EF mount lenses are not "on their way out" because certain types of photography rely on DSLR-specific features such as an optical viewfinder. Regardless, the long and excellent range of EF lenses will never be irrelevant. Lens technology doesn't advance anywhere near as fast as camera tech does, and the quality of lenses from companies that have been in the game for decades won't be matched by the mirrorless market for quite awhile; especially not at the prices you can pick up EF lenses for on the secondary market. And for anyone that needs confirmation that the gear matters way less than the person behind the lens, I have shot photographs and videos that are 100x better than anything in this review on a 2013 EOS Canon SL1 and a 2010 Nikon D3100. Those images are still selling in fine art prints for me to this day. Invest in amazing glass and any camera body will do. The Sigma Art series is top of the line and less than Canon L series lenses. And you can buy them used for way less than it costs to invest in a whole mirrorless camera system anyway.
I still use this camera for event photography gigs. Such a beast!

I wanted an 80D but didn’t like paying an extra $200 just to get 60FPS. If I need slo-mo I’ll just use my GoPro. Putting it on a 24-105 F/4 but with the crop I may need to get a 16-35 instead…
At the end of the day, If it’s good enough for Casey Neistat then it should be good enough for me!
Thank you so much!
The 60D was the best feeling Canon I ever held in hand, and I held 1D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 1000D and 400/500D.
My plan is to get a Sony A6400 first. Then to get Canon 70D or 80D as my secondary camera.
Wait! 70D doesn't do 1080p 60fps. So, I better get 80D.
Hi. Thanks for posting it. I have canon eos 70d for some time and i like it. I have have only one lens came with the kit i.e 18-135mm
I am not a professional but sill very much interested in photography. I like to street , portrait and in house photography and do like tour photography (nature, animals etc)
And macro photography.
Could you please suggest me affordable lens compatible with canon eos 70d and can use it for above mentioned photography.
thank you.
Canon 100mm Macro sounds like it could fit almost all of your needs. There's multiple versions though, to save money you can get the non L.
Looks good 👍. BTW we share the same hobbies vehicles and camera 📷 🚗
Haha that's awesome, unfortunately the Z is gone as I needed a truck for work.

This camera is now ~500 EUR second-hand... I can get a 60D for half the price, and IDK if I should as my first beginner camera.
6d or 70d? Which is better
6d photo 70d video
The good thing with this camera is, people buying this mostly for video and are not using the shutter . So you have a camera with many shots for years.
Still scary about mainboard😢
I prefer the 5Dc.... that's just me though.
70D is ♥
I'm about to get a Canon 90D
Mine started shitting the bed in the first 3 months. Never used in the rain so fuck off. I took great care of it.
If you're a beginner stills photographer, and you imagine that you'll take better pictures with a brand new, $2500 camera, you're just wrong.
Start with a 70D.
Thank you! I’m a beginner and going to shoot portraits for friends and clients and dogs for a rescue I work with….. what lens(es) would you recommend… the one I am looking at has a lens that is 18-135mm
bro get all the bisshees for sure
What about Cannon M5
It’s not the camera but the person operating it and the glass used that counts the most.
أستمر ي صديقي أنت رائع ومجنون بنفس الوقت 😂. Plz translate this word from Arabic for fun
I think it was a game changer when it came out because of the dual pixle sensor
you're funny and brilliant
A full frame Fujifilm, but that’s never gonna happen!!!!!!!!
They're good at making APS-C cameras, I think there isn't really a need for a full frame Fuji

I don't care about video
Камера норм,но часто у нее летит процессор.
"it just works"
would you want to
sell it to me
Cheap ass lenses🎉!
I will never sell my 70d
Putting a Sigma lens on a Canon is not the way to show a Canon image quality.
“Pretended to be a RUclipsr”
Very interesting
