- Today, we're ranking each of the gank bosses from each of the souls games by FromSoftware. This includes Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. I'm only ranking bosses with 2 or more health bars unless it made sense to me. Enjoy!

@@Cain_The_Hoarder What? I cheered out loud when I beat isshin, owl and genichiro and I could feel my heart pounding and the adrenaline flowing for a lot of the other bosses and mini bosses. No other boss has given me that kind of expression of relief except for Ludwig, Orphan and maybe Midir.

shadows of yharnam is probably my favorite triple boss fight after sisters of battle from hollow knight (one of the best bosses ever to date imo, best triple fight)

I still have a burning hatred for most gank bosses but Sisters was probably the first gank boss in a game since O+S that I actually love.
@@Reinoiro there is no frame of unfairness in sisters of battle actually. It’s still possible to do a hitless on sisters of battle fairly easily since all 3 sisters never come out at once despite the fight moving so fast. Most of the time 2 will come out at once and the 3rd will follow up in a fraction of a second so you have time to weave, and weaving through them like that is a feeling that no other fight in hollow knight gives. It simply gives off the vibe that nothing is unfair in the fight.
I’d reccomend fighting them multiple times in hall of gods, you’ll see what I mean. I agree it takes time getting used to the drastic pacing shift of the fight from 2 mantis lords and then immediately going to 3. The “hold my bottle” animation where all 3 sisters look at each other after u get past the first phase is also jaw-dropping because the player doesn’t expect to fight all 3 at once, especially after the fight is still called “mantis lords” in the first phase.
@@jaswanthvardireddy2243 I know i know, i just think the movement is a little less smooth than the normal fight. It's not that it's unfair in any way, i did beat them radiant and then charmless too, i just think it's not AS perfectly balanced as the original fight is in early game
I used to despise Gank Bosses when I was first starting out my Souls adventures, but now they've become some of my favorites. Ornstein and Smough are by far my favorite DS1 boss, and Twin Princes (If you count them) are my favorite DSIII boss. I don't even mind Godskin Duo, as long as I bring my own Spirit Ashes to make it a 2v2
Ornstein and smooth are so overrated imo, very easy and not that enjoyable. BY FAR the best fight in DS1 is artorias not even close imo, Ornstein and smooch are high B probably

Its a fun boss but unless you go there very early they dont have a lot of hp.

"I don't think it's that fun, but it's definitely S for sure". It's okay to let the nostalgic fights slide down the list a bit as new entries do them better.
Hot take: O&S is the most overrated fight in souls history. Maybe my problem is that I played ER and DS3 before DS1, but my God, that fight is so clunky, the arena is way too small for the two of them, and the whole "one is fast, one is slow" thing is pretty much an illusion. It takes like 2 seconds for Smough to catch up with Ornstein and for the life of me I could never space them out in any useful way. I hate gank fights overall but Demon Prince is way better. I ended up summoning Solaire and felt like that was the perfect way to deal with the fight.
Respectfully I disagree with takes that say O&S aren’t perfect or are overrated but understand them but that’s always people saying the fights actually easy which I somewhat agree with but to me it just sounds like you think the fight is actually hard which makes me think it is because you played DS3 first. O&S are the culmination of a all of the DS1 mechanics in a gank boss which is why everyone loves it. Yes Smough is slower than Ornstein especially if you can get him stuck on the environmental pillars because he’s larger and then hit and run Ornstein because his health bar is smaller. And them being able to be spaced out is simple if you use the environment again but also go into their melee ranges to bait out slower animation to then strafe them attacks as opposed to rolling with the slow DS1 animation. Also another think people mechanically struggle with is relying on the lock on too much and getting caught rolling away from something like Smoughs charge instead of locking off and running away and rolling in any direction. In the end O&S is still a DS1 boss so that’s why some people rightfully so have some issues with it but it’s practically perfect at using it’s limitations to showcase a great gank
@@joneatsbagels7239 Yeah probably if I played it with a different approach and in a different context I would have liked the fight. But when we talk about technical limitations, I don't think those should be an excuse, as Artorias and Manus are among my all-time favorites and have the same mechanical/technical limitations. O&S are a gank however and I guess it just comes down to my playstyle that I feel a gank with DS1 mechanics doesn't really work.
Yeah i agree, but the speed difference is actually useful. Not just their walking speed, but also with some attacks ornstein can dash to you, so most of the time you have at least 1 hit window every so often. As a whole the fight is super overrated and janky but i do think this part is done really well, giving enough attack windows while still keeping the fight feel like a 2v1

I remember the first time I played DarkSouls 1. I didn't know how common the weapon upgrade materials would be so I was hoarding them and just had a bunch of +1 weapons. And my buddy told me Resistance was the most important stat. So I had like 7 levels in that and was underleveled everywhere else
I was stuck on Gargs like they were Melania lol. I didn't have the DPS, the Stamina, nor the HP to beat them.
They 2 shot me and I could only do like 2 or 3 things before being out of stamina.
It was a nightmare.
lmao i kinda had a similar experience of being far too blind to notice the blacksmith direction and being stuck with a +0 weapon for the whole fight 🤣

Deacons has 1 health bar and is considered a mob boss, not a gank boss.

Looks like he left out Sister Friede and Ariandel. Also, the twin crucible knights and probably several others from Elden Ring. I think Friede is one of the few good gank fights in the series and I actually like the crucible knights when I fight them by parrying. Personally, I think almost all gank fights are F or D tier, including O&S, which is a fight I only like for the spectacle. I think gank fights pretty much always have poor rhythm and tedious pacing, and very few of them have enough redeeming qualities for me to actually consider them good.

I despise that Burial Watchdog in the Impaler's Catacombs. I ended up noping away from that one for a while, but then I got the Skeletal Militiamen ashes up in that swampy area with that boat boss (I've blanked on that boss type's name). I would have been fine if the stupid Watchdog didn't bring 5 or so stone imps to the party to stunlock me to death. Thankfully their AI is really stupid and didn't know to interrupt the skellies before they could stand back up. I let the 3 skellies draw the stone imps' aggro while I focused on the Watchdog. It made the fight a lot better. Valiant Gargoyles are also garbage.

I'd probably give Dual Gargoyles a d just because of that stone column on the middle of the arena. They might still be bad but at least you have a way of breaking aggro. LOOKING AT YOU DUAL APE.

Forgot a lot of bosses from Ds2 tbh. Skeleton lords, Executioners chariot (it is a gank if there are multiple hostile entities right 😅), royal rat authority and vanguard, looking glass knight with the npc summon, Elana the squalid queen. Idk video was fun to watch but it sure wasn't 100% complete. A part two would be nice
He did SPECIFICALLY say he wasn't counting bosses where the boss is just accompanied by a bunch of mobs. He only included Prowling Magus and Congregation because the Congregation have their own HP bar, laughable as it is. None of those ones you mentioned count, _especially_ not the shitty rat fights.

Everyone says the witches are so easy, but I don't think they've had the mad ones glitch and RUN after them the entire time. Made the fight a lot harder.
Currently doing an SL1 playthrough of DS3, I've beaten every boss in the game besides The Ringed City DLC (stuck on Demons) I've died a lot to them, yet every death feels deserved, it really is a perfect gank boss. Even when levelled they are challenging but very fair, Abyss watchers is pretty hit or miss in my opinion, Friede and Ariandel isn't that hard, just frustrating. What about Champions Graventender + Greatwolf? I personally fucking hate that boss especially after beating them at SL1 😂

Elden Ring nerfed most ganks so that fighting them solo will have most of the members be passive. I've been playing the game on RL1, so I have some opinions. The nerf makes the rotten crystalian trio a pushover. Crudible Knight and Misbegotten works great, I wish I was able to experience it pre-nerf. The warrior has low enough passive poise that you can stun him easily with strong attacks, and the crucible knight can be parried for the i-frames. The watchdog duo can be easily destroyed by throwing crystal darts at one of them, making them turn on each other. Fia's Champions are lore-wise supposed to suck, as they were able to do jack shit for Fia in contrast to the player character. However on RL1 they were brutal and I definitely got more out of the fight there. It was cool seeing all of the different player builds which were cycled into the fight, and it being different every time upped the challenge and kept it interesting. Godskin Duo I haven't gotten to yet on RL1. I've heard that the increased poise damage two handed weapons now have can make the fight go more smoothly, but I bet it'll end up being the worst fight in the game (unless Fire Giant sucks more). Mainly because of the Noble having some BS attacks, though the fight does let you focus down on the Apostle and minimize the time fatty is in phase 2.
Crucible Knight Duo (when utilizing buckler parry) was a great fight, A tier. Parrying Ordovis's Vortex right at the end of its long windup animation is so satisfying, as is chaining parries between the knights. Their aggro is very well designed, because unlike the duo fights that got nerfed, it feels like the two are standing side by side just waiting for you to attack as opposed to sitting around like idiots.
Valiant Gargoyles I actually have to upgrade from F to C. I wanted to hate it, but upon sinking in a number of hours learning the fight and beating them I have to retract my ire. I think they patched the poison mist to be more readable on the ground, and playing on RL1 means you thoroughly learn their movesets which makes the duo segment more manageable. Also I learned that they were weak to strike damage, so I used a Heavy Great Stars+12 with magic grease. Definitely lock off a lot during the duo segment to keep track of both. Imo their biggest flaw is that the second one comes in at full health instead of half health, so during the duo segment you have to get the first one to be on you while trying to ignore the twinblade one. If they worked like the DS1 fight then you'd be more engaged in the duo segment because they'd both be worth attacking, and ironically you'd end up spending more time fighting them as a duo. As it stands, once you finish off the first one the fight is really over, you just have one to two minutes of tearing through Mr. Twinblade.
Btw you missed friede phase 2, idk if pinwheel is considered a gank fight, but if it is you missed it too. Also halflight is kind of a gank.😊

O&S being above F is crime
Godskin Duo is F period. Individually they're great. Together they're awful because they don't compliment each other. Two hyper aggressive tanky enemies with little to no way to split them up that do massive damage from all ranges is obnoxious.
Really nobody mentions my fav (or lats say lessest bad) duo fight in ER, and that's the crucible duo :(
I'm on my second playthrough of Dark Souls 1 and I personally think O&S are pretty overrated. Ornstein's charge attack is unpredictable and often just doesn't work in a fair way. Ornstein can attack you, staggering you and then Smough can just take out the rest of your health before you can move, OR it knocks you down and then Ornstein attacks you again, killing you. Smough takes way more damage than Ornstein, so it makes sense to go for him, but you can't see ornstein through Smough, but Ornstein can attack you through him. Smough's hammer charging attack I really don't like, because if I roll back it hits me, if I roll forward it feels like a 50/50 chance, if I roll left or right, it hits me. When this fight works properly, it's solid, but that just isn't the case a decent amount of the time
