  • This video is a tutorial that shows a step by step process to change out the bezel insert on a Steinhart wristwatch. This process works for both the Steinhart Ocean One and Ocean GMT models. I have personally done this process several times without issue. However, this video is for entertainment purposes only and you should only try this project at your own risk.

    I just performed this procedure today on my 42mm Steinhart GMT. IT WORKS. I would just add to Be Patient! It took about 6 repetitions of hot water submergence to get the original Pepsi bezel's adhesive tape loose enough to remove the original bezel without damaging the watch or bezel. After cleaning out the old adhesive, the new Gnomen luminous ceramic Pepsi bezel went on with NO issues whatsoever. The new Steinhart luminous ceramic bezels look amazing and glow very brightly. They are a very worthwhile upgrade for the older Steinhart GMTs.

      I have done this a couple times, one time it took two dunks in hot water. The other tool several. I wonder if the age of the adhesive comes into play. But either way, it works eventually. Glad it worked for you too!

      @@burbinghard I thank you for these instructions. There's another guy on RUclips who recommends drilling holes in the original bezel to pry it off and ruining it in the process. I suspect that you're right about the age of the adhesive being a factor. My Steinhart is maybe 5 or 6 years old, but it's still in otherwise perfect condition. With the new Gnomen luminous ceramic bezel it's more useable and looks even better.

    Last night I upgraded from an aluminum to a ceramic bezel on my Ocean One GMT Pepsi 39mm. Very hot, almost boiling water and an x-acto knife did the trick. Rubbing alcohol, a q-tip and a bamboo toothpick got the old glue and gunk out preparing the watch for the new classy bezel. A little patience needed, but the whole process took maybe 20-minutes in my case.

    On the Gnomon site is asks to select fit for aluminium or cermac when purchasing. Im not 100% sure if my original bezel is aluminium or ceramic, does it matter? Would have though they are the same size anyway.

    To save hacking at the insert with a knife just pop the bezel with a proper knife. Much less chance of damage and no adhesive residue left under the ring. Better to invest a few dollars in some tools than risk damage and onward issues with any rogue adhesive under the ring.

      Reading the forums, the Steinhart bezels don’t pop off as easily as a Rolex. Most people in the modding community don’t recommend it for these models.

    • @burbinghard
      @burbinghard  Год назад +1

      I have never had an issue with boiling water which is only 100 degrees c. I have used this method with Steinhart crystals with cyclops. Maybe cheaper watches with cheaper adhesives on the crystal might have an issue. I have seen guys use a hot torch (flame) directly on the cyclops to melt the adhesive. A direct flame would be way hotter than boiling water.
