I actually told John D they should do it. I mean, what better way to build an online community. It's easy to get started and hard to master. Or Arcade 911 could just do it. ;-)
I'm working on it. It's very early stages, but I'm trying to put something together with a buddy of mine. We will see where it goes. Thanks for watching bud!
The Grid! Super Awesome addition. That machine really marked the end of what I would say was the most iconic run in arcade game history. I think deep down Ralph, you have the arcade game preservation gene in your DNA. I wake up at night bothered because I can't save them all. Those that you do acquire and save though. That is a joy that you portray very well. Thanks for sharing it.
I'm embarrassed to admit that while I remember seeing this cab back in the day, I totally thought it was a football game and just breezed right by and never played it. LOL.
I play these at the Ghost every time I get there. I would love for A1U to make this. Online or link on a local network. It would take off slow cause it’s not crazy popular but word of mouth would make it popular
I like where your heads at. I think licensing without relationships might be tough. I could give it a go though, I know Cole over at Castles and Coasters is super motivated.
The Grid WAS HUGE in my mall arcade in North Jersey 20+ years ago. Not only was it a Mallrat type mall where people were always at, but the Arcade was its own part of the mall only accessible from outside/parking lot where everyone would hang out. But between The Grid & Initial D there were ALWAYS lines of ppl & quarters claiming next to play. Was also cool that multiplayer winner kept playing for free so if you were good, youd def get recognized & you can get a ton of gameplay in for cheap.. The Arcade had 3 cabinets linked for multiplayer & like i said it was one of like 2 or MAYBE 3 main attractions for an already busy Arcade so there was always a dope competitive atmosphere. One of the better multiplayer arcade games ever made imho. If I remember hard enough i could prolly remember some codes you enter in the beginning. I def remember my player account number code that's for sure lol. So awesome & super nostalgia and im still so surprised at how huge this was locally that it didn't blow up nationwide & some ppl never even heard of it. Its crazy. Oh & crusin exotica was pretty dope too lol
That's awesome, Ralph!!! That's great you can use it for reference, so you can measure and make templates for a repro cabinet. You can become the steward for Grid's future!!! Is the real cab controlling much more naturally compared to the emulated controls you had during that livestream? I'd imagine the trackball allows for smoother control. Keep it up!
Thanks bud, OMG yes, the emulation is actually not that great when you compare it to the original. I think they kind of got it running, and the devs moved on to other projects. I wish more people could play and enjoy this game, It would be so awesome to revitalize it. It came out when Arcades were a dying breed, so I feel it never really got the attention it deserved. Anyway, thanks so much for watching!
The idea of Arcade1Up making money with The Grid honestly sounds crazy to me. BUT.... With the right marketing blitz, and maybe also with selling it as one of their new Couchcades, it just might be possible for them to tap the modern multiplayer shooter market. There's some nostalgia in that market as well, after all.
We had a really competitive scene for this game at my local arcade. I was just a kid at the time, most people who played we're in their 20s and that's when i had my first experience with "trash talk" in gaming. Great memories! Great Game!
Thanks so much for checking out the video man, much appreciated. The Grid is a badass game! I wish they would port it to modern consoles with online play. Maybe one day….
Very nice find! No topper makes it look like its had a fatality done on it haha. You're getting so many cabinets, I have to ask: When does Retro Ralph's Retro Arcade open?!
@@RetroRalph That's so awesome! Its something I've wanted to do for a long time but my god, the cost! If you make it happen, I'll come out and play there for sure!
one little add-on went to a arcade game seller and they had a verson of the grid there a single player unit but it was sold. but man how did we lose the arcade feel.
Heh, I clicked on this confusing Grid with War..because the local campus student center used to have one of those (only 1 cabinet, though, so there was never the networked play). Long gone, though.
Great video man, love seeing the inside of these unusualmachines. I like your idea of Arcade1up making a net connected cab of Grid. Very cool. I'll be honest though, I only ever played War out in the wild at the time and I so I have way more interest in that game. You know how it is. Anyway, thanks man. Stay cool.
This is definitely one the game that has to be made by 1upArcade. I have always thought about the idea of making this a live online play arcade. I dont understand why so many people dont recognize this game. It is so unique and can only be enjoyed in an arcade mode.
I really think it had to do with the time period it was released and how few they sold. I'm with you though, it's a great game and highly underrated, I'm guessing WB owns the rights now, so getting it released would probably have it's challenges. It sucks though because it would be awesome to expose this awesome game to so many people that missed it. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you watching!
Right now I'm just running out of space. I want to open an Arcade so bad, there's some stuff in the works, but it's very preliminary at the moment. Thanks so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph I still think you need to talk Cole into letting you keep some of your games in the newly branded Retro Ralph "Retro Row (tm)" at Castles N' Coasters :) That'll give you some extra room!

Ive been preaching BOTH of these games for years!! Finally someone (Ralph) is listening....Arcade1up really NEEDS to look at both games very very hard!! Great job bro
I loved this game at my local Aladdin’s Castle!! I used to get sweaty and unlock secret characters on my friends accounts. One of my top favorite memories in the arcade! You could be Scorpion and Sub Zero!
I love that you love it! Such a fun game, I wish it got more exposure. It kinda came and went unfortunately and not that many were made. Awesome that you have fun memories of it though! Thanks so much for watching!
Back in 2000, Fun and Games in Framingham had people lining up to play this. They also had tournaments on Saturday. People waiting to play would be outside smoking cigarettes. Things are so different now…
I remember seeing a few of these networked up at Boomers! in Hollywood, FL about 20 years. Always wanted to come back and play it but that never happened. This would be such a fun game to play in a tournament! I think if they brought this to xbox live or PS5 before doing a 1up, it may get some interest back in it.

Awesome find brother!!!!! 🤘🏻 no more playing it mame 😝 when you get a couple more linked up to it let me know when grid nights are in Ralph’s garage I’ll make the trek down from chi-town it’s a 20 admission to Ralph garage arcade right ? Lol Tone
Playing a multiplayer 3d shooter in an arcade sounds like a blast. I'd love it if someone made a multiplayer arcade setup for some other FPS games, such as Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Goldeneye, Halo, or Counterstrike.
I had the same idea. I even sent them a suggestion to make The Grid arcade game. Im surprise not many people mentioned this game. This will be perfect for them to make and hook it up to play against anyone over the internet. ITS A NO BRAINER. I already own two 1Up and I wont buy any more since I have no space. But if they make the Grid I would buy it right away.
It's honestly a more fun hero shooter and TPS than other games on the market, played a LOT at Galloping Ghost and it's far more addicting and fun than other shooters out now. It's got some of the chaos of quake, skill of overwatch, but it's so damn quick. It's hard to argue this game has a valid successor in today's market.
I'd love Arcade 1up to make this but it needs to be an XL or Pro. I'm not buying anything else with a riser. Looking forward to you progress on dual (or more ) Grids.
Arcade 1-Up Cabinets have do nothing to spark my interest in them, when it’s just emulating something I can put together myself, but I have always loved linked cabinet gaming in the arcades and I think a modern take on networked arcade games would be very interesting.
I loved playing the Grid a Mesa Golfland and Castles and Coasters! It was so fun to play against 3 other people at the same time. There were very few if any games that had 4 player deathmatch in the arcade. Finding the unlock code for Scorpion was awesome too. I hope Arcade 1up is able to figure out the License for this game because it would make a great cabinet. I am curious what other games would go into the cabinet since most of the Arcade 1up cabinets have multiple games.
The original sold 500 to 1000 units. I dont think arcade1up would touch it. Fortnite is free and better. Its made for your kids to yell at you and ask for vbucks or to revive them.
Living the dream! Some of the most fun I ever had with friends in the arcade was multiplayer war final assault and the grid. I know some people that would buy plane tickets to come over immediately if I had those cabinets networked lol
I think that 1Up idea is good but along with online option should probably still have the LAN option for some old school multiplayer, like easy enough to bring the smaller units to a friend's place.
I played it back in the day & finally found a rom for it that works in mame. Unfortunately it runs very slowly, probably need a bette graphics card or something lol
I'd like to try it. It looks fun. As far as 1up doing it I'm not sure. On one hand it would be awesome playing that game online but with the 1up cabinets alot of people buy for nostalgic reasons. I'm just not sure many people are that nostalgic for this game. Having said that I think 1up should take a look at it and consider it. If it takes off it could breathe new life in a game that most of us never really knew existed
One of my favorite arcades of all time. Played it all through out high school. I wish I was able to get my hands on 2 or 3.. There was a total of 9 in the 2 arcades near me in Queens NY. I held top scores at both arcades. I was a big time The Grid nerd. well done on this one!
The grid is one of the Games in my list to get. I would love for a1up to manufacture it if quotidian be a day 2 purchase. Me and my buddies play the the grid at galloping ghost for hours..
I remember seeing this in the arcade back in the day, but it didn't compare to the FPS games on PC in controls or game design, so I don't think I even bothered to give it a try. I probably should have as it looks more fun now than it did to me back then.
Dude you're full of horseshoes I swear!!! And I thought I was on a streak lately! You're my 2022 competition Ralph, you're on!!!! LOL. So happy for you brother! Crazy collection you are building ♥️P. Surprisingly enough we have one of these game at a Barcade in the Jacksonville, Florida area. I watched your first video on it and then went to my local barcade and there it was.
@@RetroRalph put me into contact with him. I believe we have it on my cabinet but Mike told me the controls are wonky. I’ll check it in a bit. Still napping after work.
@@RetroRalph actual I believe I have it on my machine only issue is the weird controls. It would be hard to have multiple players as it had different style joysticks.
Yeah babe. I promise I’m not getting anymore machines. That’s the last one. Oh wait I order another machine babe but that doesn’t count after that one I’m done for sure. 🤣🤣🤣
Part of my reason is to challenge them. They have a lot of fans. Give them something new that they maybe didn’t experience in the arcade. It would be a bit of a risk but the game is so good. Give it to a few RUclipsrs and the hype will be crazy once people experience it. That’s at least my take on it. Anyway, thanks so much for watching.
So cool to see this running. They had a 6- player island of linked cabs at the boardwalk arcade near me back in 2000. It was pricey to play, but so much fun. I've always wondered why this never made it out into the larger gaming world. Definitely would buy multiple if A1U released it... Start the insanity
Thanks so much for watching! That's really cool that they had 6 of them linked. THe only place I have ever seen that was at Galloping Ghost. Thanks again man!
Yeah thats really just the boardwalk markup. This was a 50¢ game in a regular arcade & multiplayer winner plays on for free so if you were good you could literally play til someone good enough to beat you comes along or no other challengers come & you enter single player mode & you play til you lose.
I'd be into playing this in a multiplayer setting at an arcade, but not something I'd really be interested in as an Arcade1Up product. Cool find though!
Arcade1up should totally make The Grid. The game is awesome, and would be an epic online battle royal. Great video, bud! 🚨

Dude!!! He's got a grid topper!?! Would you mind forwarding me the listing to my email? That would be a huge help man. My email is RetroRalph1980@gmail.com Thanks so much for watching! I need to stop the streak though, I'm running out of space. I need to sell some cabinets ASAP!
I wish someone would dump them as roms so they can be reproduced, or decompiled to be ported to PC. Also YES!!! 1up needs to do that.
Surprisingly enough we have one of these game at a Barcade in the Jacksonville, Florida area. I watched your first video on it and then went to my local barcade and there it was.
Was this that Craigslist ad almost a year ago where a guy had like 12 of them? Amazing pick up !!
The inside looked new - like super clean. Is that refitted?
Looks like a cool game though.
I miss this game, how about you start collecting signatures to bring this back I’m all in!!!
Does your son enjoy your arcade passion? My boys couldn’t care less, Fortnite for them all day.
Awesome can't believe u got it. U were just talking about these.atleat u know we're some boards for it are.lol
NICE. Gotta see if I got it or not. Looks like fun.
Well there’s a dude in NJ that hosts GRID parties at his house. You should go there and film an episode for perfect storm gaming!
@@RetroRalph put me into contact with him. I believe we have it on my cabinet but Mike told me the controls are wonky. I’ll check it in a bit. Still napping after work.
@@RetroRalph actual I believe I have it on my machine only issue is the weird controls. It would be hard to have multiple players as it had different style joysticks.
how much did it cost you? i have plans to do my own arcade1up style the grid machine in the future 👀👀
Yeah babe. I promise I’m not getting anymore machines. That’s the last one. Oh wait I order another machine babe but that doesn’t count after that one I’m done for sure. 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, pretty much how it goes. I hope she doesn't see this. LOL
A modern cabinet would be amazing to actually play it as it was intended, but would also be cool if it came to the Switch or something
Man I loved this game. This is the only Retro game I would pay top dollar to own.
Arcade1up plz take my money for The Grid!
So much fun playing that with 6x at CA Extreme!
Used to have 2 Grids at my local mall ten or so years ago, unfortunately it closed and all the games were sold off I assume :(
Oh man, so many unfortunate stories like that. Glad you got to experience it though.
THE GRID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELCOME TO THE ELITE CIRCLE ⭕️
Pc emulator is much better idea, as with most connected arcade machines around/followed at that time.
Would love a midway multicab. Blitz, grid 🤯
Love the Show but Sorry I don't think there will be enough interest in The Grid.
I’m just not feeling it with this game. Glad you got one but it’s not for me.
I love this game, I play it at galloping ghost often, I stay in Chicago so me and my son go atleast once every few months
Very cool Ralph look forward to seeing the progress.
Woof.
LMAO!
Glad my friend Jeff West over at XLarcade could help. If they made a Arcade1up of this game I'd actually buy one... Or 3!
Hey bud, I actually asked Jeff, he's looking into recreating the topper. Thanks so much for watching!
I'd by an Arcade 1Up version in a heartbeat.
Congrats Ralph. Happy you found one!
You can play as Scorpion and SubZero? Holy Crap
I'm not against A1up doing the Grid, but the problem is there's almost no nostalgia factor. Very few people played it.
With each acquisition we see less Kim. Coincidence? lol
Thanks for taking the time to comment bud, much appreciated. I'm on a GRID kick right now so just trying to spread the love... haha.
