The Dewalt really works, it's amazing...used many of these and none are accurate at all...but the Dewalt hasn't failed me yet! If you need a stud sensor this is the one .
I just bought the Dewalt one 2 hrs ago you guys and it worked great, it was amazing on how easy it was. I had another one that had me missing studs. This one is the truth, I totally love the Dewalt one, wasn't to sure if I would since the last two I had were crap, but it worked great. My Dewalt stud finder cost $24 at Home Depot
I am standing in home depot. I knew my son in law wanted a stud finder. That's it. Thank you for your review. I was actually looking at these 2 stud finders.
Nice comparison. I think the Dewalt unit you show here is probably the same tech as the Stanley S160. It has a very similar chassis, same beep patterns and light configuration, even the two-tone colour scheme. I've been happy with mine after a couple of weeks' use.
For $2 more get the 11/2" deep unit...wider unit and deeper sensors..works Damn good...also I t will mark a live wire, but tough for it to tell the way you guys looped the cord in the wall... usually the wire will be stapled vertical on a stud and it let's you know....good review ,love the channel 👍
Just got the Craftsman version of the Dewalt looks the same different colors, they had it for 15.00 at Lowes on black Friday also got the Craftsman laser Mes. 40 ft 20.00 both work pretty good. I have checked the C finder in my garage pretty accurate. After that its my knuckle and ear!!!
I’ve never had good luck with any of the cheap(ish) stud finders so I’ve always resorted to pulling a plug cover off and measuring from stud to stud until I get where I need to be... I will definitely look into that Dewalt for the price though. Good looking out fella’s!
Thanks for the video! So, a couple questions: 1) If it shows an AC current, that's just to warn me to maybe avoid hammering/drilling there because there are wires there? 2) If I find one center of a stud, aren't my studs (in this 40 year old condo) separated by a certain, standard amount so I can just measure over, or do you recommend just using the finder? Thanks!
Glad to know I'm not the only one to own about 4 different brands lol ... I still haven't found one I love ! Everyone of them "gets ya close" oh well its better than guessing I guess lol
Thank you so much. Off to HomeDepot, I go to return the dumb Zircon Stud finder that takes a 9v battery. I have to be accurate. I'm installing a TV mount. Thanks guys, Angel from The Bay
Thanks for doin this study. Not long ago I needed to purchase one and didn't know which to choose from all the variations. I purchased one at Costco, (Franklin?) it has a series of 5 lights that give you a range that you can easily estimate center. I thought it was the bees knee until I took it to a textured wall. Anyway, it was the best so far. I am very curious about Walabot but run an iPhone complimented with Mac products.
Question, the Dewalt AC keeps beeping over a large area. When do you know if it’s a false reading? The previous owner said there shouldn’t be any live wires in that area as he built the house.
I have a DeWalt stud finder and the first day I used it to set up my tv. It detected the stud supposedly but when I drilled the whole there was nothing there! So I tried again and it worked that time. But overall really good device
The only downside to using these stud finders is that if you come across a length of PEX pipe which has been clipped over the aluminium tape the stud detectors pick this up as a stud & centre over it. My friend found this out the hard way one night around 20:30 when he was attempting to hang a TV on the wall & thought he was screwing into a stud & turned out to be the return leg of his heating system. So if you're unsure the best way I've found is to just tap the wall & listen out for hollow spaces.
How thick is the drywall? I have 5/8th drywall and I have not been able to get good readings from any of these devices. I read a review of the Zircon HD900c. Apparently just the c for color version. I am actually happy with this one, but I tried Bosch, DeWalt, and several Zircons over the years. I finally have one that works. I just did a search for it online and I'm not sure it's still available. Have you tried these against 5/8th drywall?
4:32 That one had a problem detecting the wire, because you started it up on top of the metal stud, which it used as a base reference/reading during the start up calibration. Btw, that Dewalt finder has 100's of bad reviews across various websites, and quite a few of those reviews are from experienced stud finder users.
well to be real sure you should go over the place 3-4times to make it sure.. i have a blue bosch Dt 120 and its good enough for what iam doing have not yet drilled into a waterpipe :D
I would love to see some type of comparison that details what makes one of these better than another. To my knowledge, they all use the same type of sensing technology, so why is one more accurate than another? Personally, I’d spend well over $100 for something that keeps me from punching unnecessary holes into someone else’s drywall, and reliably keeps me from cutting into electrical circuits.
You do not see them much anymore. At least we don't. I have a Milwaukee M12 and I do not use it in my house because you roll over once and roll back over and it makes it hard to center stuff.
Hey. GREAT VIDEO I have a WALABOT Android Wall Xray Scanner. You need to have a Very Certain type of Android phone to onake it work. But it is great. But i was Really looking for a battery powered SMALL ON THE SPOT if it fell off a ladder and broke i wouldnt care Good Stud Finder. And YOU JUST SOLD ME on the DEWALT !! I was REALLY going to biy the BOSH or Milwaukee But yes. I need the CENTER FINDER !!! Thank you Perfect video guys Thank you. I gueas now i will have 10001 Dewalt tools.
Awesome demo guys! I put up a lot of tvs and I strongly dislike the Mighty Mouse 🐁 zircon! This DeWalt is well worth the money and It’s very accurate! Great job 👍🏾 And you just earned another sub!
Just bought a dewalt from amazon. It is telling me I have live wires everywhere. Also hate having to keep power button pressed down hard while moving it around. Waste of money. Hard to understand why it is among the five best on the market by some youtubers. .
I am a handyman and I use a magnetic stud finder. What it does is find the screw or nails in the wall. You can feel it latch onto one when you move the finder back and forth on the drywall. Typically the screw will be center of the stud already so all you need to do is mark your spot, take a four foot level on it. Then mark a line where you want to screw. The only problem I have with it is when I'm putting in 7" or so trim because I have to find each stud in order to put a nail into. That's why I'm looking for a better stud finder because marking each one takes too long. If you need to find a stud on occasion I would recommend the magnetic stud finder because they are accurate and cheap. Between $5 or $10.
Tell me how missusing the studfinders his a test. It's simple you don't continue the stud! You do from one side then the other. Make a mark from each side and it will give you center. Read the back of the dam things.
You should still try it and see how it compares. The bigger older Zircon has always served me well as long as you approach the wood from both sides and mark the edges to find center
You say you want my opinion of these stud detectors? Sure! My mom bought one in 2005 from a local hardware store. No identifying brand marks on it anywhere, not even on the inside and requires a 23A battery, which aren't exactly mainstream. Was totally on point, found every stud perfectly and it's AC wire detection was pretty close too. A month ago I realized I needed one for myself because I'm going to install a pull up bar into dry wall, so it's got to go into the studs. I bought a €10 one of ebay. Schneider Electric, a brand I normally trust for electrical stuff. It was absolute pants. Thinks every single wall is electrified along its entire width and only finds a single stud across the full 18 foot width. It tells me that the single stud it finds is 12 inches wide! Absolute garbage. I've seen the dewalt one online, again a brand I normally trust when it comes to tools like drills and saws. The reason I'm watching this video is to get a review of it before buying, and I've got to say, it looks the real deal. Really impressed how it wasn't fooled by two studs together. It won't have me unwittingly drill between two studs, thinking the bar is secure only to find out that the screw hadn't bound to anything.
I would have no problem paying $500 for a good stud finder. 30 years in the business I still haven't found anything that works every time. A finish nail and hammer seems to be the "go to" tool 90% of time for me.
If you're just looking for studs behind sheetrock, here's the $8 answer. CH-Hanson magnetic stud finder. You find the screws, you'll find the studs. www.amazon.com/CH-Hanson-03040-Magnetic-Finder/dp/B000IKK0OI/
Your tests are waaay too easy and seems like you want this Dewalt to look good. Try to find something inside plaster o concrete. I have much more expensive Bosch, but it still sucks finding AC wire 1 inch deep in concrete. But it finds metal every time.
Idk man I'm using it and can't figure where's stud, or at least confused, it keeps beeppiin (DeWalt) , if it's trying to show exactly what is the middle but it's beeping all over still... 😒🤬

I bought the de Walt and it has been working well so far
Franklin stud finder is where it’s at guys. Got one from costco a while ago, and it’s definitely an upgrade over any standard stud finder.
The Franklin stud finder is by far my favorite Stud finder. But that is all it can do. No hot wire detection. #WorkkshopAddict
Hot wire detection is overrated. You'll eventually know if you hit one.
Just bought it. Gonna use it to install a tv. Thanks for making this.
Thanks. Bought that Dewalt tool today. And never even watched your video. I just assumed the Dewalt name would be a better product.
Picked up the Dewalt for $14 on Amazon. ;) Great video, very helpful.

will do!
Yeah i own a FS 710+ It works about as well as other's lol it's always the one my wife grabs I think cause its blue lol

Will it work on heavy textured walls?
Ceiling texture, yes, they make a 1-1/2" version that would be smart to buy if you do this commercially or even use it more.

What about walls with insulation??
It works on them without issue.
