There are though... not first party maybe, but there are "normal" Xbox style controllers with hall effect for 50 or less. I use the gamesir t4 cyclone and it is awesome
I don't think either MS, Nintendo or Sony would do that. Console gaming 50/50 people technically proficient and people who're not and are there for the games. The second group would rather buy a MS, Sony, Nintendo controller than get a better 3rd party controller. This group can be milked with controllers that are designed to fail.

The dome back buttons on the edge are for me the best back buttons ive ever used, but thats bc i was stabbed and luckily and unluckily i put one hand in front of my tummy while i got the knife with my other hand..anyways my ring finger dont work that great anymore so the placement of the domes allows my middle finger to rest on it perfectly
Also the being able to change the way the sticks react on the ps5 is quite convenient..ive also heard hall effect isnt as good as the ones that are used currently
I dont care about back paddles and programmable buttons etc all I want is an affordable PS5 pad with hall effect sticks and some nice texture on the grips but all we get is mega expensive pads! On Switch u can get quite a few pads at 60 quid or less like the King Kong or 8bitdo
Great review on the features. The calibration tool is a bit tricky but once you're done it performs fantastically. Was able to snag a Clear one through their KS campaign so the price was a bit lower and that made pushing for it a bit easier. I was simply tired of so many official controllers failing on me over and over again. Once stick drift hits it goes beyond frustration especially when Sony just increased the MSRP price of them this year, what a joke. If this much money is too much for you, learn to solder and install your own Hall sticks or find a 3rd party that does it for $50-70 on your own already owned official troubled controller.

Looking good but the prices of these 3rd party pro controllers is what's killing me. And from the looks of it you can't swap/replace the joystick modules if or when needs replacing like you easily can with the Edge. That's one of the things the Edge has over all of them. Notwithstanding the replacement modules are all out of stock everywhere except Ebay, the genuine ones at least, for well over a year. Inexcusable of the manufacturers IMO. Another thing is that it doesn't have haptic feedback as the Edge has. Yet another thing the Edge has over all or most of them. And to top it off the package contents says: PLEASE NOTE: Cable and additional accessories are not included. Yeah I looked at and read everything including the fine print. Real pity these third party pro controllers that want to compete with the Edge are so much more expensive yet lack some crucial things the Edge offers.

In all my life, (33 years old) I have never once had stick drift. I’ve broken controllers though. But this stick drift nonsense started with Nintendo Switch. I used to straight up abuse my controllers. The grips would wear off completely. I never once had stick drift on any controller, across all consoles. And I’ve owned basically every major console from the NES to the PS5. Nintendo needs to step up and stop being cheap. It’s weak.

phantom owner here, the back buttons work like any other extremerate product in which the mappings are stored on the controller itself and steam only reads them as the buttons you map them to. i’d love to be corrected if they do have full steaminput support, but they aren’t extra buttons for steaminput or any other remapper to read as of the controller’s release

The edge for me is hard to beat. The easy way to replace the sticks, feeling really premium & triggers that can switch between regular & fast triggers. I’ve had 2 scuffs that messed up pretty quick & they feel cheap it’s no wonder they don’t last.
Edge is a scam, battery life so bad that Sony includes cable locker, only two buttons on back, cheap gloss plastic and cheap stick that you can replace if you find one, Sony tried to copy Xbox elite controller but forgot to include quality.

Oh yeah and a better rubber grip on the bottom shell. Mine bubbled and came off. Had to buy new shells for it which was a hassle taking apart the controller to install it
The Edge should have Hall Effect modules. Hell it's hard enough to find the regular modules in stock most of the time. They need a Edge version 2 with Hall Effect and better battery life

I have edge and Hall effect. To me the edge is way better for ps5 feels better built and just the options in the ps5 with how you can change everything makes it better. Also what you forgot to mention Hall effect controllers are much , more sensitive takes some getting use to, a lot of people don’t like this

Im currently testing on a PC and whether it can be overclocked to get faster levels of connection. Also in regards to gimmicks, pro features such as Hall Effect sensors, on-board profiles, hair triggers and back paddles I certainly wouldn't consider as gimmicks.

I’ve used a lot of controllers with paddles and these are up there as the best. They dont get in the way.
I don't use paddles also. Tried it for a time but they always got in the way accidentally triggering them when I didn't intend to.

Well, specifically the Edge does rank as one of the lowest-latency controllers on the market if the Gampad Latency website is to be believe.

It's a dualsense. Why would you need a fucking dongle? It would defeat the purpose of having latency free Bluetooth.
No need for a usb on ps5, which is primarily aimed at.

Im currently testing on a PC and whether it can be overclocked to get faster levels of connection.
Also in regards to gimmicks, pro features such as Hall Effect sensors, on-board profiles, hair triggers and back paddles I certainly wouldn't consider as gimmicks.
