I received an arc of BWWAY via my job at a bookstore, and I really enjoyed it. For me, Normal People remains my favourite because I related most to those characters. However, BWWAY is such a good portrayal of life in your mid-late twenties. I feel like everyone’s favourite Sally Rooney is determined by the characters you relate to most: particularly as the books are driven by character rather than plot.

In the Persephone and Hades retelling, I think the best is "Hadestown" the musical, because the original myth isn't that long its paired up with the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, not only is the music beautiful but the both myths are interwoven so well that it creates a complete and satisfying story.

I loooooved The Chosen & the Beautiful but it’s definitely polarizing due to the writing style, as well as the initial veerrry slow pace. Nghi Vo chose to slowly unfold Jordan’s story as well as the parallels to and layers added on The Great Gatsby, but as someone who enjoys analyzing themes it worked incredibly well!
I’d also recommend Vo’s two novellas to literally anyone, her writing is so BEAUTIFUL. Light fantasy in an imperial Asian inspired setting with sapphic themes and a nonbinary main character, who is a traveling scholar collecting stories of the empire.

When I started it, I was a little overwhelmed by some of the names in the book because they're all female perspectives in a male-dominated canon. But if you feel overwhelmed too, there's a dramatic personae that literally saved my brain when I read this book earlier this year! I hope you love them all 💕

My Greek Mythology book arrived last week. I honestly bought it for the artwork. I studied Greek & Roman Civilisation in college so I didn't need it for that purpose but would recommend it for people looking to expand their mythology knowledge. I have read too many of the modern Greek & Roman myth retellings, mainly the ones centring around the female figures. The Silence of Girls is one of the best retellings and Pat Barker did such a good job at showing the Trojan War myth through the female gaze. She has a new book out now (or maybe soonish) and it will be an instant buy for me

You gots this!! I feels you because I also start my Master's courses this month and I'm just hoping my children can leave me alone an hour at a time to do homework 🤣🤣. You have a good TBR. Your first book seems very interesting.

another great book about greek mythology, particularly the roles of women in mythology is Great Goddesses by nikita gill. it’s mostly poetry but there are a few stories that feel more like short stories and i highly recommend it.

I will say knowing the story of Achilles before reading The Song of Achilles almost made it worse because I knew how the story would end.

I loved The Silence of the Girls! I was put off by Greek myth retellings after I read Circe as I really did not like that book so I was so surprised when I loved The Silence of the Girls. Pat Barker has a new Greek myth retelling coming out this year so if you like this one I’d definitely recommend you check out her others! Like you I don’t know much about the history of Greek myths so thanks for the podcast and book recs; I’ll be sure to check those out. Good luck with going back to school, you’re almost done!

Hello there, new sub aaaand... Greek! Really excited to see you so into Greek mythology! Since you just started learning about all the ancient Greek myths, I think you should find and read about the story of the Argonaut expedition, starting from how the Golden Fleece came to be, up until the tragic love story of Jason and Medea. I think you'd really be into it :)
