I'm from the UK, I have loads of Rab kit, including the Siltarp 1 and 2. I've used it in very challenging conditions for years. It's great gear, I've never had any issues with any of it. They make some great jackets too.
Im from the uk, and I can confirm they are one of the most premium brands for outdoor gear. They make incredible waterproof jackets and trousers, great fleeces, they specialise in down, jackets and sleeping bags. I've have lots of their stuff,
I've been using Rab for knocking on 20 years now, and in that time had two jackets from them which have been my go-to waterproof shell; the Bergen. They were made from eVent fabric which is incredibly waterproof but still feels like a fabric (it makes GoreTex feel like a bin-liner) and is incredibly breathable. I've also got one of their sleeping bags (summer) which is fantastic, and a softshell (Baltoro Guide) which I've had must be 15 years and is still going strong. I've been out in all day rain in the Peak District wearing Rab/eVent products and never even got sweaty, let alone wet. In fairness I've not tried their shells in a while as they have switched to GoreTex, which I find kinda sweaty when I'm pushing on. For me, eVent Fabric really is the daddy in every respect.
I'm from the Netherlands, I have the sil tarp 2 and absolutely love it. Other then that I use a lot of rab products, daypacks to down jackets and absolutely love the brand.
I'm from the UK and Rab is a top tier brand. Always high on quality, never any faults and one of the more expensive brands 100 recommended any of their products
I’m from the uk, i buy my partner Rab walking trousers she walks 20 plus miles every Saturday and i have to say there gear is top notch, 18 months down the line and still going strong 👍
Hi Luke. Like the color on that tarp! No secret that Rab is popular over here in Europe, and especially in my Coventry, Norway. From usage of other Rab products, like down sleeping bag, the quality is top notch. So hope Rab can make it into the US market.
In the UK Rab has a well earned reputation for great gear. Expensive but known to last a long time. I have a coat that has lasted 7 winters of camping so far and is still looking good.
Rab is wicked good kit!! I'm in Australia, it's got a strong following in AU, and I've got a Downpour jacket which is superb, along with the small tarp which is great too.
No stealth camping with that beast 😂 it screams I'm here rescue me haha. Great review as usual, it definitely has me curious on how well it will perform. My guess excellent. Never heard of this name brand and this is why I watch the most honest guy on RUclips. Appreciate you Luke!
Luke, you'll have no issues with Rab products. Not flashy, they just work well. I have a fleece, windproof jacket and hat - all good. Keep up the testing for us, we appreciate it.
Rab clothing is second to none. Fantastic gear that’s proved itself time and again. Superb company that really looks after its customers. I have loads of their gear and it’s never failed me yet.
Rab products are amazing I’ve owned the bivy for 5 years. Hiking through the Sierras in California. Completely waterproof completely packable my go to shelter!
I love watching your videos in the rain. I hope to see/hear more of this tarp in action in the rain. Its always relaxing watching you out in the rain under these cool shelters. It makes me want to set one up outside now. I find myself wanting more of the rain content. Thank you for all you do to bring this content to us!
Looking forward to seeing the testing on this tarp. It looks like an awesome tarp, I'm actually excited to find out if it's just as good, My fingers are crossed
I have a Rab Kinetic jacket. It weighs very little . It is waterproof, breathable and windproof. Being so thin, it is ideal for an extra layer over a fleece. I made a 30 mile trek, and it poured down. The only reason my back got wet is becuse i didn't put the hood up and found its way into it. I paid £170 in the sale, and worth every penny. It also came with a bag to store phones etc so thier was no chace of moisture. I bought one as i read a 1 star review. It said that because the jacket beads and runs down made his jeans wet. I thought that was a perfect review, and it is true, but a good thing.
I'm English and I've had various RAB items for decades. They're reputation in the UK is really good because it's good stuff. Never knew they did tarps, though.
Hi Luke, I'm from Canada and this fall I purchased a Rab Aziom Pro down jacket. I'm very impressed with the jacket, Extremely well made and very high quality.
Rab is well known and respected in outdoor circles here in the UK. I've had many Rab products over the years and I can't complain about any of them infact thinking about it my entire go to layering system for hikes is entirely Rab, base, mid, outer, wind, down etc and it looks at home around town as much as it does in the mountains. Something I like about Rab is the choice and variety you get, for instance with down jackets the range goes from ultra thin lightweight through to super thick heavy duty and dozens in between. The build quality is superb and honestly in a SHTF situation in winter up a mountain I'd want nothing else. Lastly I'd say Rabs pricing is reasonable and fair unlike say patagonia, Arc'teryx and Fjallraven, brands I love btw but they over charge, they could knock 20% off and still be competitive and fair. All in all you can't go wrong with Rab.
Loving the extended music at the end of your videos. Let's me read though the comments and jam to the music. Pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing the review.
I have quite a few Rab jackets and sleeping bags that I use all year round here in Scotland. A few mountaineering friends have their latok alpine shelters and swear by them. Their kit is known here to be high quality, and I agree I have never had any problems with any of it and do trust it with my life.
Got my first piece of rab clothing at Christmas. The capacitor jumper. Really light mid layer with great breathability, but still warm. One of the only pieces of clothing I own that the sleeves are long enough for my orangutan arms. I love it
I found Rab after months of online research looking for a down jacket. I purchased the jacket about 3 years ago and it's been great. Had temps down to the -30's with windchill into the -60's and it kept me warm with only a scrub top on underneath. It was expensive but as long as it lasts, I'll consider it worth it. It's been worth it so far and is showing no signs of wear.
I’m UK based and have a few bits of Rab kit, in my honest opinion it’s brilliant and their customer service and after purchase care options are some of the best. They also offer a fantastic repair service for those of us who don’t know how to look after our kit haha. Their down sleeping bags are without doubt the best I’ve used, the only issue I have is I can’t afford everything I want from them but I guess in this game you get what you pay for.
RAB has always been and still is top notch. Well established and recognised in Europe alongside with brands like Samaya, Ortovox, Pieps, Petzl, Edelried and so on
I'm from the UK and most people I know own a product from Rab. Whether its a item of clothing or equipment. I personally have some gloves and they are great, my friend has a jacket also great. Yes on the pricier side but if it's going to last years then it's a good investment. It's not as expensive as some brands though.
Holy crap - I literally just received mine yesterday. Planning to use it this spring. Definitely feels like decent quality, and I'm looking forward to using it.
Thank you Luke, for sharing this preview. Although it's out of my price range, learning about new backpacking/camping items is always a plus. I have learned so much from watching your channel. Thank you again
Used these in Canadian Algonquin when they were integral Designs which Rab acquired. They are the real deal. You will not be disappointed. A tarp does not get any better.
I’m from Northern California and the Serra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe now living in a town called bolivar in Missouri. When I went camping I never wasted my money on expensive stuff mostly because I just didn’t have it to waste. So I used what I could afford simple generic Walmart or hardware tarps usually the double sided brown or blue on one side and silver on the other . One for under the tent before setting it up for extra protection and insulation from the ground another to cover the tent to make sure it didn’t leak and again extra insulation from the cold and 3 more tarps for various purposes depending upon the situation and I always carried extra heavy duty 12-14 inch long tent stakes with 2 points I could attach a rope to to tie down the tent and tarps. When allowed I carried a chain saw extra fuel and bar oil to cut firewood from the surrounding area that usually being whatever was dead and dry at the time mostly it was either western red cedar, silver tip fir lodge pole pine and white fir some times ponderosa pine and that being the pitchiest wood I could get because pitch wood is waterproof and will stay burning in rain and snow. My fires when allowed where large I built and dug a 2 foot deep 6-7 foot across fire pit and ringed it with rocks at least a foot hi but preferably 2 feet where enough of the right rocks could be found that being granite anything else tends to shatter or explode when heated by fire. I built large fires for several reasons the main being more heat being put out in colder conditions and it deters predators from coming into camp. Over the years I’ve had cyots black bears and mountain lions enter my camp and I keep a clean camp usually picking up what someone else left so I leave my camp better than I found it I also carry 2 shovels a rake extra tools rope mostly paracord 500-1000 pound strength. Several days worth of food mostly canned food that doesn’t need refrigeration or spoils easily very few perishable foods 20 gallons of water 2 axes a bow saw 1 medium pot and frying pan a few utensils my 2 burner propane stove propane lantern propane tent heater several flashlights and a spotlight for emergencies lighter matches and water proof kerosene soaked starter matches. And various other items. When we camped it was during hunting season so we where armed as well at all times. We usually would camp about a week to 14 days at a time. I never had much use for backpack camping especially when the fire danger was bad because of one started if on foot and miles from your vehicle your not gonna get out of the way in time and during hunting season well let’s just say it’s not a good idea to go backpacking unless you’re wearing a lot of hunters orange. It’s why I hunted close to camp no more than a mile away at best and I kept lots of orange on when moving took it off only when at my stand and put the orange on the side facing the road I walked in from so some stupid flatlander wouldn’t shoot in my direction which happened to me once because the 3 15-16 year old kids didn’t bother to look or holler before they started target shooting they were from the Bay Area like I said flatlanders . I’m old school in how things are done and you learn how to survive especially when being raised in a 4 generation logging family. I don’t believe in all this tree hugging don’t leave tracks nonetheless but at the same time I don’t believe in destroying or vandalizing things either I used what I needed when I needed it and not wasting it either if I cut extra firewood I either left it neatly stacked by the fire pit or I loaded up with my gear and used it in my wood stove back home.
So far, so good! Looks like a great lightweight tarp. I used a tarp in Alaska for years while backpacking. Only camped in the cold weather so the mosquitoes were of little concern. Always heated with a fire in front and stayed warm to -10 F. Thanks Luke, I'm looking forward to your review!
Rab are a top quality UK brand - alongside Montane - I'm relatively new to it but all the gear I've bought so far has been top notch......sleeping bag, base layers, headgear, lightweight outer layers. I've bought most at discounted - end of season/range prices as its pretty expensive. Several friends who are serious hikers wouldn't use any other brand. All the best Luke - from Scotland.
Sounds crazy for a tarp. What are your thoughts on Tyvek. Used for house wrap but also the number one choice for actual serious mountaineers. Used by nearly every Mt Everest crew. A 9x150 roll is $200 and a piece this size can fit into a pocket. Completely impervious to all elements and conditions.
I don't have any experience with Rab products but I'm glad to hear about it, been on the lookout for a tarp and if I can get a domestic product too, all's the better.
I have a sleeping bag from Rab (Neutrino 600) and it is such a good sleeping bag and a friend of mine bought a rain jacket, and he is very impressed as well.
I’ve bought a Rab SilTarp 3 in 2016 - it’s not made w Cordura, but it’s an excellent product. There is Sil sag, so use tensioning hitches when you pitch it (maybe the Cordura will reduce that just a little). Always 100% waterproof. Mine didn’t come seam sealed, but they sent me a tube to do it myself (which reduces price for the manufacturer to pass along to the end user). I forgot to seal it before my first use and it didn’t leak, so I continue to forget and have never sealed it and it has never leaked. My only want would be to have 2 more loops spaced out along the ridge line. note: BEWARE there are multiple counterfeit sites that claim to be Rab and sell knockoffs so double check the URL
Im from England and have lots of RAB clothing, all great and super quality .Check out the RAB proflex waterproof jacket, like wearing stretchy silk it's brilliant.
Great first-look Luke! Looks like a very good quality product. At that size, you’d have a lot of flexibility in set-up. (All-roof, half roof-half floor, side shelter, etc.) Your outro music is epic by the way. Love, love, love it! 🥰👍
I love Rab products (have 7 products right now). Have had mixed customer service. Note that their "lifetime" warrenty is what they deem to be the "life" of that particular product. That appears to be randomly chosen by the customer service team and thus you are at their wim.
thanks for another video, I always look forward to them! Two use cases come to mind that I'm curious about. 1) applicability for using with a hammock. 2) makeshift burrito style sleeping bag. I hope it comes in "natural" colors.
I have the RAB Kangri GTX Jacket since 1,5 years and i have worn it almost every day. The Quality is very good and the fit is perfect for me (often my arms are to long) Expensive, but worth the price in my opinion.
Nice tarp! I have been using a Paria Sanctuary sil 10x12 for years. Similar weight, quite a bit cheaper. It has been a great tarp. Never let me down. It's big enough to protect my hammock set up in the rain without doors.
I live in NYC. I see many hardcore hikers and backpackers here wear RAB clothes. Its ultra high quality. I own many items as well. I have their Latok Mountain 2 tent for my more aggressive trips. Its single wall so u have to know how to manage condensation. One of the best tents for serious outdoor trips. I own about 8 1-2p backpacking tents. This one it high on my list.
Love rab gear. The down jackets are amazing, light and warm. I have the rab ascent 700 sleeping bag and it's always toasty and roomy, maybe a little heavy but good quality product.
I have both the Rab 1 and Rab 2. If I'm solo, I take the one, if in a group the two. Five of us got caught in a major all night rain event a couple of years ago. We pitched two tarps, the rab 2 and a simple Walmart blue tarp. Both kept us very dry to cook and socialize but the blue tarp was loud as hell. Rab tarps are NOT cheap, but worth every penny for size and weight savings.
Been using Rab since very early 90s here in the UK. My winter sleeping bag is a Rab bought in '91 still going 💪. Alpkit, here in the UK, make one of the best cordura tarps going check out their rig 7, my goto tarp for Spring to Autumn long distance walking, along with a bivy bag.
Thanks for another good video and looking forwards to seeing your further testing. UK viewer and I really like Rab gear - their sleeping bags are fantastic and I also like their down jackets. Picked up a Sil Tarp 2 recently but not had chance to try it out yet.
I have a RAB rainjacket. I use this as a rainjacket over mij motorcycle jacket. So it gets much more stretch, abrassion from the inside and most of all wind abuse. And it is excellent. Other rainjackets would just rip apart. I love it.
Im from Norway, and rab down jackets are very popular over here. I have one of the thickest down jacket they sell, and it is so warm and comfy. But cant really use it before it reaches -10degrees outside. And i also have some goretex rain jacket and pants for skiing and rainy weather. Every product has been great so far. For me i really like the fit of the jackets.
Good day Luke! I was wondering, could you do a video showing multiple ways of deploying a tarp? I like the idea of using one, but I am not sure of the configurations or how to use them properly. As always, i appreciate you guys for all your work and great videos. take care.
@AZ Claimjumper I'm sure there is, but I rather watch Luke and the way he delivers the information rather than some long-winded person that trips over their own words and can't put together a coherent thought. If you are implying Luke has many videos on the topic, then send me a link. I didn't find any using the search feature.
@@1LeggedAdventures There is a British bloke called Hidden Valley Bushcraft (he's an ex Marine). He's easy to watch, and I'm pretty sure I've seen tarp videos from him👍
Hello from the U.K. 👋🏼😁 I can confirm that Rab is a high end make of outdoor gear in the U.K. and has been well known by myself my whole life. I have owned some Rab products in the past and have never been let down by them. I highly recommend this brand.
UK based; have a few bits of RAB gear, latest being a 3 season outer shell jacket. In my experience, their stuff isn't the cheapest but it does exactly what they say it will do, and the quality of it is excellent. A lot of their stuff is designed with mountaineering and mountain climbing rather than your bog standard hill walker, hiker or backpacker in mind (although they do seem to be making more stuff nowadays for the hiker/backpacker). They do also make some cracking cost-effective stuff, it's just never going to be the cheapest option.
I have the first version that you mentioned - very good and bought it here in New Zealand for about NZ$150. Am interested in this Siltarp 3 and waiting for your review Luke - cheers Darren
Hey Luke! Check out Sea To Summit. They use Cordura Ultra-Sil Nylon for their tarps, dry bags, and a ton of other products. I love the compression dry bag I have from them. I also love my Rab Siltarp 1, thanks for the recommendation! Keep up the great work!
Work in a Mountaineering and hiking store in the EU. Rab is known as the creme de la creme of our gear. Although i mostly know them as a apparel brand. They have amazing down jackets and hardshells and stuff. But i dont see how their tarps wouldnt be top notch as well
I have a Rab ultralight rain jacket, 3oz, that has performed very well. Super lightweight yet surprisingly durable and does not wet out quickly. Not cheap but a great and reliable emergency jacket. I also have a frog toggs jacket and it too performs well but it packs down much bigger and space is a factor for me.
Rab do great gear, I have their hill walking gators £80 if I remember. They are expensive brand but great quality. It was a toss up between a Rab sleeping bag and the same one as you carinthia defense 4, but even though the carinthia was heavier it won out for me. Very popular amongst the mountaneering fraternity and the show of brigades.
Rab are top class in the UK, not got there camping equipment but I do have jackets, tops, puffy jacket and thermal wear, there’re kinetic alpine 2 jackets are bombproof for biking and hiking did the west highland way with it in foul weather
This size and weigh (even lighter) has been around for years. For the same price. I’ve had a jacks r better 11x10 at 16.8oz for $140 since 2015. And you support a USA made product.
UK: I realise how expensive it would be to import Rab products but you won’t be disappointed. I think of it like this, I spent a lot of money importing a UGQ quilt to the UK and I believe you’d have that same feeling of satisfaction when it arrives, that you made a good decision and you still have an inner grin when you think about it.
That is interesting. For comparison against something familiar to me, I checked their small tarp specs against my DD superlight S. Rab Siltarp 1 is: 2.4m x 1.5m, 235g (65g/m^2) DD superlight S is: 2.8m x 1.5m, 290g (excl. pegs & guy lines) (69g/m^2) I like that the DD Superlight S is a little longer, giving a bit more height & floor area in a 3 sided pitch. Based on this review, the nod has to go to the Rab Siltarp 1 on weight, pack size & build quality.

I'll echo what my fellow Brits are saying. I have loads of Rab gear and absolutely love them. Not the cheapest, but great quality and well made.
Looks very promising, took my chance on your link, excited to try it. I usually wait for you to test but I am going in!
Interested to see your rain test on this. I'd love to see how it stacks up against the DD Superlight tarp.
Just questioning, isn't 2000mm a little on the low end? Wouldn't be enough for a rain jacket for example
@@megawolfr1986 2000mm is good as you need. no rain will pass through unless you have above two kilo's of standing water bearing down on any one spot.
Looks great! Hope we see it on your next adventure!
I have a Rab Ascent 500 (-1C) sleeping bag for years now. One of the best purchases of my kit
Can’t wait to see the testing!! Looks very promising… 👍🏻
Just stumbeld over your channel, i must say i love your work.
Hello luke, today video on RAB kit 100% the best in UK 🇬🇧 on the full range off kit they make clothes ,sleep bags & tents they are brilliant. Martin
Looks great. Now let's put this tarp to the rain test!
All the Rab gear I've had has been spot on!

As a Brit Rab are “top draw”. It’s what you buy if you can afford it! Very well respected

Thank you Luke.
I don't have any experience with Rab products but I'm glad to hear about it, been on the lookout for a tarp and if I can get a domestic product too, all's the better.
Rab make great stuff. Responsible with their products manufacturing and repairs.
I'm looking for a good light weight tarp. Thanks for making this series!
Great first-look Luke! Looks like a very good quality product. At that size, you’d have a lot of flexibility in set-up. (All-roof, half roof-half floor, side shelter, etc.)
Your outro music is epic by the way. Love, love, love it! 🥰👍
That is quite huge, that is very good in a tarp.
The Quality is very good and the fit is perfect for me (often my arms are to long)
Expensive, but worth the price in my opinion.
I am definitely going to buy this
I look forward to the test night(s) on this one. I'd like to see it in a Baker tent configuration, especially while the weather is still cold.
I'm from the UK. I have a Neutrino sleeping bag, down jacket and sleeveless down jacket. Not cheap but awesome quality.
I love it.
You can get a sil-poly tarp, 9.5x11, 16.52oz with 20 tie outs from a top notch cottage vendor right here in the US for $139!!
As always, i appreciate you guys for all your work and great videos. take care.
There are already NUMEROUS videos showing numerous ways to pitch tarps of different sizes/shapes.

From Luke?
@AZ Claimjumper I'm sure there is, but I rather watch Luke and the way he delivers the information rather than some long-winded person that trips over their own words and can't put together a coherent thought. If you are implying Luke has many videos on the topic, then send me a link. I didn't find any using the search feature.
@@1LeggedAdventures
There is a British bloke called Hidden Valley Bushcraft (he's an ex Marine). He's easy to watch, and I'm pretty sure I've seen tarp videos from him👍
@@casperme6552 much appreciated, thank you.
Well put
But i dont see how their tarps wouldnt be top notch as well
Pricey!!!
I believe Rab bought Integral Designs who had the siltarp first, I have a few stuff sacks of theirs I still use and sold the tarp. Good stuff.
Thank you man!
Nice tarp preview. 👍
Luv the color!!!
I think of it like this, I spent a lot of money importing a UGQ quilt to the UK and I believe you’d have that same feeling of satisfaction when it arrives, that you made a good decision and you still have an inner grin when you think about it.
the 30€ amazon basic garden tarpaulin is the tarp to have, indestructible, no stretch, cheap and more guidline points to set it up
I think it will do well in the rain test.
That is interesting. For comparison against something familiar to me, I checked their small tarp specs against my DD superlight S.
Rab Siltarp 1 is: 2.4m x 1.5m, 235g (65g/m^2)
DD superlight S is: 2.8m x 1.5m, 290g (excl. pegs & guy lines) (69g/m^2)
I like that the DD Superlight S is a little longer, giving a bit more height & floor area in a 3 sided pitch.
Based on this review, the nod has to go to the Rab Siltarp 1 on weight, pack size & build quality.
I bought a 9.5 x 11 nylon tarp weighs one pound. for about 100 bucks probably 20 years ago still have it.
