    What a gracious and knowledgeable lady. I was also impressed that when she would offer a fact that I know you have memorized, you were very much a gentleman in the way you let her shine (she really did know her stuff) without feeling the need to one-up her as an expert in the hobby. That's what class looks like. This is easily one of your best videos, Teddy.

      @UGA.D 3 года назад +6

      @@stuartb9982 Perhaps he could have, via a voice-over or by way of added text to the video in post-production. It was still very a very polite action. For a non-WIS who works in a jewelry store, Elizabeth knew more about watches than many hobbyists. There was nothing to be gained by jumping too hard on one misspeak.

    • @daveausmunchen7787
      @daveausmunchen7787 3 года назад +8

      @@eseskay99 No it is not the only way and there’s a quite logical reason for it.
      Whilst the Lecoultre part is from Switzerland and within the country the French part (though still most speak German) it is to be pronounced French.
      However, the Jaeger part of the name comes from the Elsass region, which has been French and then German and French again and German again,.... is to be pronounced German.
      Given most of the cities names some might argue that Germans occupation was more influential, but that’s totally up to debate and depends on who you ask
      Despite being born whilst it was French, the Family Jaeger still was German as the names suggests. His mother had the name Weber, which means weaver and especially considering family names come from professions it is very likely that she is from a German family, as does the name Jaeger which translates into hunter. Back in the day there was no „Ä“ so „AE“ was the Common German spelling whilst still pronouncing it German.
      So there’s a reason why the company says both is fine, French does sound a bit more romantic, but it’s also pretentious to assume it is wrong to pronounce watch brands in a German way.
      After all the Swiss do speak German and a lot of luxury watch brands are from a German speaking country.

    keep in mind these are msrp prices, all these watches can be had for 20-30% off. In my experience, best way to spend 25k is 10-12k for a Submariner date, 3-4k for a pre-owned Omega moonwatch, and 3-4k for a Tudor Blackbay as a beater, and that adds up to around 20k, without much depreciation when it comes time to sell.

    Man! I'm conflicted. At times I feel that material things aren't important. At the end of the day, they can't save you from illness or death, but then I see watches, vintage guitars, and cars, and I WANT! I SO VERY WANT!!!
    Teddy, I'm checking your vids out with hopes of someday building my own collection. Ice forever been a watch guy, but the brands I liked have always been the ridonculous, which I couldn't never afford. Learning about microbrands from you and Kevin. Hopefully I will get started this year. Money's tight.

      Until you mentioned the discord between the shabby design of the building and the exemplary craftsmanship of the watches being sold inside, I was completely oblivious to it. I guess, living in the United States for my entire life, I have gotten so accustomed to this disparity that I don't even notice it. This stark contrast is pretty common here. Its nice to get an outsider's perspective to make me aware of things I don't normally notice. Thanks!

      As someone from the area, it’s somewhat odd to me to. I didn’t notice that though until after I spend a little time in Germany and saw the why luxury stores look there. It’s an older mall that’s been renovated to be fair though (I think).

      The coffee shop you go to is probably older than the city of Omaha. Plus, it's a mall, which is rarely going to exist within an architectural setting that's had any other influence but supply side economics. IOW, 'Murica!

For example, you could follow my collection rules - 1 watch per brand, and you have to get the most iconic watch from each brand, but only one "type" of watch each in a collection, like 1 diver, 1 pilot watch, 1 dress, etc.

  • @StephenHKim

    one of my favorite videos so far. Love the thought process, back and forth with you and seller (both providing good pieces of information about watch, brand, the topic of collection building, etc.). I would feel that people serious about their collection would also spend lots of time iterating through similar questions to best allocate their resources.
    I think it would be cool if you could help your audience form their collections! Not only because of your wealth of knowledge but also because you have good taste!
