Can we just say how much we love MAX’S REVIEWS?! Thank you so much for this! This is bringing me life and joy. Santos dumont would be my choice in Santos!
Hey…I feel like your stepping up from an already high level. Video quality, story telling, comfort in front of the cam. Alll great before, but even better now. Sky’s the limit man!
I appreciate that you drew the parallels between having a Quartz movement last 6 years (power reserve) and the service interval of a mechanical timepiece. This Cartier seems like a great grab-and-go watch!
True. But I don’t service a mechanical watch until it basically stops working. My watchmaker said - repairs cost the same as a service - so wait until it breaks before servicing
As Mary Quant once said “if a woman is badly dressed, you remember the dress, when a woman is impeccably dressed, you remember the woman”. Watches and people are exactly the same, you wear watches with effortless class, but many owner-collectors of high-end watches don’t do the watches justice. Kudos mate, kudos.
Great video! I bought a platinum CPCP santos dumont 1575 as a flip but ended up falling in love with the watch. It wears super well in jeans and a sweater. Happy to see the model getting some revival and love!
This review has pulled the trigger for me! Bought the Large model in full steel. I tried the gold bezel too, but couldn’t explain the 2000 extra euro’s for only a gold bezel and I think the steel is more versatile anyways. I absolutely love it. Thanks for your amazing review on this Dumont.
This is my favorite Cartier and possibly my favorite dress watch. This Santos Dumont Large and a Black Bay 58 as a sports watch are probably my perfect 2 watch collection.
Hi Max, anything made by Cartier is always elegant and classy. They always do a great design job. By the way, several years ago I visited the little house Santos Dumont had in Petropolis, Brazil. A place full of history. There were pictures of the flimsy wood and fabric planes he built. Those were times of pioneering and brave men indeed. Well deserved that Cartier has dedicated a watch to him. Thank you for the video!
I've got the Santos Dumont XL and it's a great fit on my 7.25" wrist. I'm surprised that this model doesn't get more recognition. I would definitely rather have this as a dress watch than a Rolex Datejust.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial I reckon you could. My wrist is 6.25" and I tried one on today. I guess this style of watch says smaller is best but just as a watch it wears pretty similar to my Tudor BB58 only much thinner and hugs the wrist better. I LOVED it.
@@chrisgrieves1468 I think the Dumont XL is aimed at average to large wrists at least. I have a 6” wrist and tried the XL but the strap was too long even on it’s shortest setting so I couldn’t even wear it without ordering a shorter strap. However, I own the Santos Medium and it fits fine on the bracelet. Congrats on your Dumont XL!
@@sensational_cellar8606 Actually I tried the Dumont XL as a result of this video and it looks great - but It's the Santos Medium that is where my money is going when they come in (a bit scarce in these parts at present). Thanks for the congrats anyway :)
Can’t beat gold polished Roman numerals that sparkle like jewels in the sunlight. Loving the sun ray dial man that pops! AMZWATCH watches. What a beautiful subtle piece.
I happened to be waiting for coffee recently and noticed a guy wearing a Santos. I'd not actually seen one in the metal before. Elegance is the descriptor that came to mind, and it went very well with the sort've arty buis/cas sartorial vibe the guy had. For me at 6'4“-ish with an ~ 8” wrist, elegance is not easily achieved!, my loss: a great looking (and well worn neo-vintage heirloom on this occasion) piece - if one has the frame and style to match. Maybe I should look at the XL?..
Wow, this Santos completely fixes the issues I've had with the Santos de Cartier. I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetics of the bracelet the Santos de Cartier comes on, thought it was a bit bulky and I didn't feel like spending almost 7000 euros on a watch that was really cool but just missed the mark slighty for me. This version looks sleeker with the thinner bezel and is 3000 euros cheaper?! What! The real question is going to be if I want the small or large version. Going to give my AD a call and hope they have both in stock. Thanks for the video!
How did it go? The santos has a nice sport vraclet but a dressy dial, it doesn't make sense. I prefer steel bracelets but this dumout is the better watch. Elegant and firmly in the dressy/stylish category.
Max, I really enjoy your reviews! Straightforward with insightful comments that transcend just a point by point review. I do love the comment on how Sports watches are defined across a broad spectrum. Personally this style of Watch has never really pegged my interest meter but as I’ve learned more of the history on Cartier Watches I am becoming a fan. Thanks for the information that is so beautifully presented.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial I have a 6.3 inch wrist. Should I go for large or xl? If large...should I get that or the XL Must Tank with a mechanical movement (given they cost more or less the same)? Many thanks, sir!
Hi Max, I just discovered your channel and I'm very glad that I did. I think this watch deserves a lot more attention and your video details its charms so well. Thank you!
I’m a few weeks shy of my one year anniversary with my Large SD 2-tone and cannot be happier with it. Surprisingly versatile and I ordered 2 extras leather straps from Cartier, which adds to the allure. Highly recommended.
I'm 6 ft 180 lb with an athletic build but for some reason I like the small the way it looks on you. Not sure if I would like it on me as you have a little shorter and possibly thinner but I'm still not a big guy and I kind of like the Vintage size on a jewelry watch like this one. It's pretty darn nice!
I initially was interested in Cartier Santos Medium, but when I finally got to try one - I was underwhelmed especially the bracelet. This one however…I’m in trouble
Thanks for the video, excellent review on the Santos Dumont and the difference between the Sport Watch and a Dress Watch. I love the mechanical watch and I do collect mechanical watches, including Cartier’s however, I chose the Santos Dumont Large model not only because of size, Because of the autonomy quartz movement of ~ 6 years. This a great achievement for Cartier on improving the quartz technology to achieve such a long power reserve and even more on these day with other models. Some of the mechanical watches power reserve are limited ( 36-48 hours), specially, when your time is limited and you need to grab and go the watch back to work after the weekend. Again, I love mechanical watches and I enjoyed but , this model is a perfect example of classic, simplicity, craftsmanship and history, a watch that symbolize the first wrist watch for Aviators since 1904 by Cartier and also, a practical timepiece with such a beauty and history.
Exactly! Quartz isn't all bad, just have to think about the type of quartz and if it fits the purpose of the watch. I still don't know what "high-autonomy" means though 😅
I have always been an anti-quartz guy but would definitely consider this one, especially since it lacks the second hand. I just need to be convinced that a higher end watch uses a higher end quartz movement and not a cheap $2 one. Watch industry is full of smoke and mirrors.
After getting my Rolex service (which took 8 months) for a simple service and a new new crown. I got my watch back that had no issues with time to it being rolled back hourssss after just 2 weeks. After that experience I’m not with automatic movement and am sold on quartz for starters you can’t beat the accuracy and maintenance. From geeking out automatic movements are overrated.
While not a mechanical watch, I think this Santos model is phenomenal! For me personally, a sports watch is a watch with a screw down crown and at least 100m of WR, but i would like to get my hands on this Cartier:)
I think a screw down crown is optional for anything not dive or otherwise water focused, but I definitely prefer it. My PRX lacks the screwdown crown, but I've inadvertently taken some trips into the water and ocean with it and never had a real worry or felt I needed to stop and get out to remove it But I think if wound up dunked into the ocean with any watch with a 50m or lower rating I'd probably be actively trying to not panic and fleeing immediately back to the boat
they're such good value. IF you're thinking of getting any Santos or Santos dumont. Get them now. because they're getting harder to come by. On top of that Cartier will raise their price again this year.
Mechanical watches are, indeed, outdated and anachronistic. You're one of the first to boldly state the obvious - kudos! I love my mechanicals but I'm an accuracy freak so... Great review of a beautiful watch! I need to see one in person.
Great review and macro work....the Quartz versus Mechanical watch debate is an irrelevance - I have both and bond with them in different ways. The Dumont has the potential to be a get up and go watch for me; Classy, effortless stylish and 6 years of power reserve.
Beautiful review, video and editing. Thanks 👍 I don't know which one I will get for my wedding anniversary ... 😅 I love the case on the quartz version is more refined plus is way closer to the original (how cool would be with breguet hands as the original 😀)...
“Leisure watch” makes so much more sense. Nobody brings a Sub into the water because they need to bring a Sub in the water, or an Explorer on a mountain-to name 2 popular ‘sport’ watches. It’s leisure, or dress, really
Yes, the polish is so good looking I feel like babying my Santos de Cartier and same thing with my Grand Seiko…I need to get over this in order to enjoy them.
Bro... Don't change anything. I enjoyed your presentation very much. Thanks to you, Santos and Speedmaster are the top 2 on my list now. Grand Seiko needs to wait I guess...
This could be an apocryphal story, but my understanding is the JLC Reverso was created to use while playing tennis. You would flip the watch over to protect the crystal while playing tennis, golf, etc. Like I said, I don't know if it's true, but it makes a good story.
Sports watch is one I can wear and go leisure trips all day long with friends and family. My take is that Du mont is more suited towards dress and de Cartier a bit more sporty cause it’s bracelet and water resistance
I was thinking about getting a Santos De Cartier Medium but for the price for of this Santos-Dumont, I might reconsider. I wish I could get a bracelet option.
You might also mention that this model of Santos Dumont is among the more affordable options in the Cartier watch catalog. I personally do not mind the quartz movement because it's a very high grade of quartz movement and it has that outstanding 6-year battery life. This makes for a pick-up-and-go watch that is less formal (hence "sport") than the comparable Cartier Must Tank offerings in the catalog.
Excellent review of a beautiful watch. I think the Cartier Santos-Dumont is much more a dress watch rather than a sport watch. An automatic or mechanical movement is still better than a quartz movement for a luxury watch, no?
My tank is an every day watch on my collection, my Or & Acier Santos (so classic and still very unique) is a sport watch, and adventurer watch, it's solid, dense, and still a tool watch while some would call it "luxury". But it isn't "luxury" in my collection, it's just iconic. And yes Quartz timepieces are very interesting too, my collection range to quartz, HAQ (high Accuracy Quartz, with less than 10 seconds errors each year), hand wound mechanical, automatic mechanical, some (Quartz or mechanical) being COSC Chronometer certified, and I plan to buy a SpringDrive (a hybrid mechanical + Quarz) too. The Santos made history, it is iconic in each and every variation. It deserve your attention, and presence in every collection. As the Tank.
The small version was perfect on your wrist, much as Panerai are supposed to look big on your wrist I always see Cartier as a small watch purposely designed to look elegant. If I could add a design suggestion to make it look even classier I would add a date, a cyclops and a helium escape valve.
Yeah Morgan you nailed something I've noticed. The small cartiers have better dial spacing, with the bigger ones leaving more unsightly empty space between the numerals and the center of the dial 👍
6:36 I find it funny how a small watch look can be deemed comical, a large watch is easily more comical looking to me. Small watch look screams elegance.
Really nice video just like the others. This channel is awesome! About the Cartier Santos, I have been studying this watch for a while and it is going to be my next purchase. I also have small wrist. I have tried the Santos de Cartier and Santos Dumont, but the one I liked the most is Santos 100 mid-size.
Hi Max, l like your video 🙂 I went to Cartier boutique and saw a few Santos de Cartier, honestly somehow they did not impress me that much until the sales consultant brought out the Santos Dumont, it looks great and I instantly like it. I like the history and its sleek design. The only aspect of this watch which is holding me back is that the price for a quartz is rather steep. Other than high autonomy quartz with long battery life, is there any other aspects that would make the quartz used in this watch “higher quality” compared to other quartz movements?
I loved this watch, especially the blue strap, however I tried the small and large, however the watch strap was too small and I have a 6 3/4 to 7 in wrist and I was told I would have to wait 3 to 6 months to get a custom strap so this watch was not ideal for me
I don't know, my Santos de Cartier in medium on the blue leather alligator strap and white dial Roman numerals is VERY SPORTY! I'd play a pickup basketball game in this puppy. ....KIDDING, no, it's really not a sports watch, maybe the ADLC version, but it's really not a sports watch at all, even on a bracelet. It's also not strictly formal, so it makes it a versatile watch that depending on the strap, can dress up or down. I chose the medium since I didn't want a date, even for my 7.5" 19CM wrist. I wanted a Dumont XL, but couldn't see it in person, so went with the Santos de Cartier.
For a while i thought the Santos was the first wrist watch. Untill an employee at Cartier told me this was. Sadly, as much as i am inlove with history behind a watch, i am bummed to find out the Santos isnt the original, the Dumont is. Thanks for the review though! I think my hands are closing on the Santos Medium.
No need to feel bummed as your Santos is a version of the Santos Dumont watch. There never was a Dumont watch, it was the Santos Dumont that was the first wristwatch and it still looks very much like your Santos. Enjoy your Santos as it is a truly special watch.
I have nothing against a quartz heart at all. A lot of these movements have a low battery warning ticking every other second if they have a second hand. Getting six years from a battery is commendable possibly only ticking every 5 seconds or so. As you say service would change the battery as part of that as well and in theory at least should be less expensive than a mechanical watch.. That case design is gorgeous.

Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the AMZWATCH’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
@@WatchCrunchOfficial and your thoughts on the helium escape valve? 😂
@@morganthedruid1 Morgan's in the mood to troll 😁
Great review! I've been admiring this watch for some time.
Thanks Kurt! Me too 😉
Great review, great commentaries !
Great presentation. I own a medium Cartier Santos and would purchase Cartier quartz watch.
I think the small one look way better!😮
I love the Santos and I love watches getting some scratches but they just scratch up so easily
Which size are u wearing 4.14 minutes in the video?
Luxurious!!! Wow
How long will it last a quartz movement? Can you pass it on to you children or will it be over for the watch? Just a watch beginner here
6:36 I find it funny how a small watch look can be deemed comical, a large watch is easily more comical looking to me. Small watch look screams elegance.
Yeah, I think it's more the thin strap that feels weird, I love small watches 👌
Agree. Think the small version looks better on you tho.
“ Add 6.5 inches I void anything labeled XL” 😆 hilarious! Such a great video on the Santos Dumont, but I am still Santos medium club 😎
Thanks Derek, there's a Santos for everyone 😉
Really nice video just like the others. This channel is awesome! About the Cartier Santos, I have been studying this watch for a while and it is going to be my next purchase. I also have small wrist. I have tried the Santos de Cartier and Santos Dumont, but the one I liked the most is Santos 100 mid-size.
Great choice Paulo! Love the hands on those 👍
@@WatchCrunchOfficial thanks for making this video. I asked you! I am very greatly.
Just in time! 🙌 Time for some coffee
Good morning!
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Wellll… it’s 4 PM now in central Europe 😄
Which one looks better on the wrist? The large or mid size?
I have just purchased the santos chronograph adlc bezel. What do you think about this particular model. ty
Is the strap dark blue (more like black) ? On some pictures, it looks very bluish but in your video it looks black. Is this the model WSSA0022?
Cartier Santos is my grail watch, you can dress it up and down. Loooove it.
I loved this watch, especially the blue strap, however I tried the small and large, however the watch strap was too small and I have a 6 3/4 to 7 in wrist and I was told I would have to wait 3 to 6 months to get a custom strap so this watch was not ideal for me
Hi WatchCrunch. How do you feel the small size for men ? looking for classic Cartier size.
Love the opening haha😂
Haha, you had me going for a min there 😂Can't go wrong with either!
@@Peter-Alexander thank you Peter for the details! 🙏👊🏆
Great video Max!!
Thank you Alena! Appreciate you 🙏
I have nothing against a quartz heart at all.
Yeah and considering Cartier is more about design than tech, it's less jarring than a quartz JLC or something 😅
Dude I had the exact same experience at the AD… wanted a medium Santos but was blown away by the Dumont! Great video!
Hi, is there a budget alternative for this watch?
You don’t think the dumont is huge? I’m interested in this as well
Love your videos. Question- you recently showcased the Tudor Pelagos FXD. Where were you able to get it? I’m in the Seattle area and can’t seem to find one
Daniel, that was lent by a buddy who has a "relationship" with the AD. I can't get one either 😅
@@WatchCrunchOfficial too bad. I’ve been itching for this one. Hopefully my patience will pay off. Thanks for the reply. Keep the great content coming!
Can you make a video for best women’s watches? Thanks
Hey Max! Great video.
The first santos de Cartier you show has a date complication, isn’t that for the large and onwards?🤔
Not quite sure the medium has that🤔
You are right, medium is no date
