    Love the beginning of this episode when Crockett and Tubbs are driving down Hwy 41 in the Ferrari, and Tommy Shaw's "Girls with Guns" is playing. Some cool filming, obviously with a helicopter. One of my favorite drives in south Florida, anyway, and to see it. In DEA, we used to quote the line as they pulled up, where Tubbs says this place is pretty open, how come no ones ever been in here before, and Crockett says, 'DEA's been in here twice before'. And, Tubbs says, "What did they find out?' and Crockett says, "Don't know, they never came back." I had that recorded and would play it over the radio when we were about to send someone in undercover for laughs.

    Years after seeing this, a friend in FL law enforcement said while he wasn't sure if this episode was inspired by real events, but he swore there was a drug gang that got wiped out by what police assumed were locals in South Florida sort of like this episode, but the drugs were dumped on the ground and nothing was taken, and the police either never found out or never looked too hard as to who the trigger pullers were. I've often wondered how many times something like this might have happened, as the drug runners wouldn't call the cops to complain, right?

      My dad was stationed in the Coast Guard out of Miami during the 80s for a while. From what I gathered from his stories and the vibe I got when I visited him there once, Miami Vice was actually one of the more realistic cop shows in TV history. A lot of the show's storylines were inspired by real cases, so your friend's instincts could have been right.
      I was an EMT back in the 1980s and the entire EMS system was one big Wild Wild West. Just nuts under Reagan. Things calmed down a lot in the 90s, I've heard (I was in West Africa by then).

      It was supposed to be in the Everglades. Crockett and Tubbs drove out to the Everglades with a couple fishing poles. In a Ferrari. Blending right in to the locals.

      @@timhoovermusicman What are you talking about? There's a great shot of them driving out to the 'Glades, with two fishing poles sticking out of the back seat of Crockett's Ferrari. I remember because it was so absurd, to drive a Ferrari to the Everglades, thinking you'd be inconspicuous. The jeep you suggest would have been much better cover.

      @@timhoovermusicman That one, I don't remember. Was it the 4th season one, where he went to visit his ex-wife, and son? The only vehicles I remember Crockett driving were the Spyder, a broke dick truck, after the Spyder was blown up, and the Testarossa.

    Loved MV. Still do. Classic series.
    But notice how they had Sonny using a handgun and Tubbs a shotgun for long-distance work? :) Both are intended for CQB (close distances). They should have had AR's. :) And used the handgun and shotgun as "back-up weapons". Yes I'm nitpicking here. :) Just sayin' though...heh!!

    • @TheLAGopher
      @TheLAGopher 3 года назад +1

      CQB was in its infancy in those days and the MP-5 was the preferred weapon because of the 1980 SAS takedown of the Iranian Embassy in London.
      In those days, over penetration of walls or bodies was the main concern. It was from the Panama invasion of 1989 onward where CT teams started
      going for M-4 type weapons to deal with enemies wearing body armor or hopped up on drugs.
