Wise words from one of the greatest actors. Liked him in Miami vice....(yes I'm an old pagan) and absolutely loved him in the bsg remake. Our political leaders will always separate us by race......it's our culture that brings us together. All cultures are more related than our supposed "leaders" can ever understand.
Olmos is even more brilliant with his own words than he is when he is acting! I shouldn't be at all surprised, because he blew me away on the show. How he is amazing me in real life. God bless Olmos! God bless Admiral Adama!
If only you left in Whoopie's comment right after; "I'm glad that you did it here!" That would have been a nice addition to the speech. But thank you for posting this.
You know, BSG is the greatest series of all time, I even can go with what Mr. Olmos is saying about there not being a race but then he inaccurately speaks about the origins of "race" being 600 years ago. The fact is, the HUMAN RACE has been using the issue of different races to vilify "the other" since the BEGINNING OF TIME! That goes for the ancient Romans, Persians, Aztecs, all of the African tribes that war w/ each other, et al. It is not a solely Caucasian anomaly. To say otherwise is wrong.
Well said but he has his marching orders to promote the narrative of systemic white racism. BSG is my favorite show as well and I could care less that most of the cast are trans luciferians but there is an obvious agenda at work. It speaks to their desperation.
Given Olmos' involvment in social activism, his experience as an international ambassador for UNICEF, and his non-profits that deal with issues affecting Latinos, I wouldn't say he's completely unqualified to speak about race issues.
A GREAT finale to a GREAT series! BSG has ALWAYS had STRONG spiritual roots. It's common to BOTH series... and its strongest emotional and unifying gift to us all! Even though I don't agree with some of this spiritual postulation/conclusions, I respect, and even admire its logic and optimism; something we sorely need in this self-serving system we presently live in. Thank you, Battlestar Galactica for these fantastic four years... what a ride! So Say We All!
Yup, we are all one (human) race...there are genetic differences that we inherited from our ancestors which can determine our hair color and pigmentation of skin and bone structure, etc, but we are all pretty much just human. One question, though - why are Lt Castillo from Miami Vice and Donnie Darko's mom sepaking at the U.N., and why are they sitting next to Miss Celie from The Color Purple? ;)
You know, I almost fell for it. He truly is a gifted actor. There's only a couple problems with this clip. First off, for being so intent on the fact that there is no "race" he seems fairly determined to blame the "Caucasian race" for beginning this "culture destroying" he is speaking of. Secondly, go do a little reading in historic facts. Humans have been killing humans since the dawn of humanity. Forget "races" for a moment and consider a time long before our 600 year window that he speaks of. Let's say, go back 2000 years or further. The Greeks, Romans, Persians, and Asians were all huge conquering civilizations long long before the 600 year window spoken of. Most of them not "Caucasian race" either. I won't say that Caucasians are innocent, but I will say that we are not alone in the atrocities against human kind category. I think if you look at human species, even "races", you will find we are all guilty to some extent. So for him to blame whitey, I think, might just be the pot calling the kettle black.
I have never been big on 'classifications'. We can all see with our own eyes our differences and commonalities. I tend to think that the differences we take note of are mostly culture and experience. Skin color is also captivating if you're not used to a tone drastically different than your own. It's our perceptions that make the difference in our interaction; one sees difference and either thinks 'not one of my kind' or 'wow, who is this person'.
@Xelanderthomas The guy is an entertainer, adept at driving passion and life into people. He said it that way because it sounds conflicted, and therefore interesting and powerful. Trivia and challenge can make a speech brilliant as opposed to good. The way I said it is boring, and not very entertaining. And whats wrong with the way he said it? You understood the point, and I don't think anyone will misunderstand. Unless you disagree.
This conference would have been x 100 better if Mary McDonnell acted like the President of the Colonies from the show in real-life together with EJO. SO SAY WE ALL!!!!!!!!
Heeee!! I wish I'd been there (to shout 'so say we all' back at him like a good dork, of course). I kinda love EJO for the point he is making, but he does come across as rather (endearingly) pompous about it. Gotta love McDonnell's fond but indulgent, "there he goes again" little smile.
That's true, we just haven't lived apart long enough for the species to split... (at least the modern human species that is.) Now, i'm not sure about this one, but i think we were sexually compatible even with non-modern humans such as Neanderthals. So, while being "one" does simplify things a lot for us, What if the species really HAD split? It still wouldn't justify treating other intelligent beings differently. So the "being one" argument is really missing the point.
Thank you Eddie! What a noble speech! ShakaUVM, you can be very precise about biology, but the point is that making race into a culture and identity is something we've been taught to do. There are places in the world where race is about hair color, not skin color. How does this stand up to reality? Where is this world going if we divide people by external aspects? Racial division is nothing more than power play in a time when humanity needs to be pulling together.
@saintkamus14 Well that idea comes from the original version not from the new. GA Larson is a Mormon, he based the original story on something he wrote in the 60's called "Adam's Ark". That itself was based on the book of Mormon.
-1 hour til Arar panel. I hope its good and non-PC! -The thing about OS is that while it is very pretty, and the people are often nice as well... its one of those 'stagnating' places, and if you're one who wants to expand your experience, OS isn't the place (that said, it is great to retire and raise a family in!) -Oh yeah I know a few from the military base :) I don't recall BB... oh, and I co-oped at the Sun Times and wrote a few articles for them. I don't miss the place though.
He may be an actor, but never JUST an actor.
He went full Adama on the UN.
He always sounds so damn commanding. Whenever I hear him, I will always think of him as the admiral.
SO SAY WE ALL!!! THEY WEREN'T SAYING IT LOUD ENOUGH!!! ADAMAAAAAA!!!
That man is a legend. SO SAY WE ALL!!!
Lol, I like how Mary looks somewhat embarrassed. XD Olmos is like my angry grandpa.
But is he wrong though?
@@the_biggest_chungus7508 Nope. He's not wrong. It's been 13 years since my post, lol.

When I first saw this in the UN webstream I so freaked out in joy over the boldness of his speech :). Luvved it :).
SO SAY WE FRAKIN ALL!
I have no idea how many times I´ve watched this over the years - still getting this mix of goosebumps and tears.
I didn't know that the UN included a Caprican delegation.
Olmos is even more brilliant with his own words than he is when he is acting! I shouldn't be at all surprised, because he blew me away on the show. How he is amazing me in real life. God bless Olmos! God bless Admiral Adama!
Yep, that made my day. Thanks EJO, you are most definatly The Man.
That was Fracking Incredible!!
If only you left in Whoopie's comment right after; "I'm glad that you did it here!" That would have been a nice addition to the speech. But thank you for posting this.
Lets get this shared, modern times yet again, demands it
Just did!
That's really cool that the UN is geeky enough to have stars of BSG speak!
it's not about the speech, it's about the point he's making.
Edward James Olmos for the frakkin' win!
"SO SAY WE ALL!!!!"
Two questions:
1. Why has this idea not become a movement?
2. Why is this movement not called the "So say we all!" movement?
Thansk so much for posting
Is there any more?
This Man Should Be In Office!!!
It'll live on forever on our screens !
"SO SAY WE ALL!!!"
There is but one race, and that is the HUMAN race. SO SAY WE ALL!
This speech just made my day.
Indeed. That was probably what was being referred to in the earlier speech.
I love this.
Anyone know where the entire recording can be found?
he talked about this on AOTS.
why were the bsg actors at a un conference??
hes a living legend... he has it set with his human rights
Admiral Adama addressing the United Nations = EPIC WIN.

Yes - she is the panel moderator and a fan of the show.
@ugoing2 But wouldn't the Cylons click "like" so they blend in?
Given Olmos' involvment in social activism, his experience as an international ambassador for UNICEF, and his non-profits that deal with issues affecting Latinos, I wouldn't say he's completely unqualified to speak about race issues.

why is there a game name in the background?
So Say We All Gaddammit!!
She was there to speak as a fan.
GO Ed! And they wonder why we're all going to be crying when this show ends this week.
SO SAY WE ALL!!
anyone know where I can watch this meeting in its entirety?

13 years later ... clearly his message didn't get through to people. We are making people the other more than ever.

I said the same thing, but upon a second look I'm convinced that there was deliberate irony there
Mr. Olmos showing how Science Fictional thought can help us all learn and re-evaluate things.
- The music Loving Klingon
I was half expecting skin jobs to bust in shooting guns and causing general mayhem
God bless you all.
Fantastic reply
So say we all...
Very very well put. So say we all!
So say we all Eddie!!!
Fuck it im joining the cylons.
+burzum56 , u'll not be able to...
Rewatching this after a year - Just as epic as the first time I heard this - this is timeless! ADAAAMA! ADAAAMA! ADAAAAAMA!
So say we all!!
@HitomiAyumu It totally is; I'm just saying that there's relatively few questions where the answer is "either Jews or Aztecs".
I think with the point he is making here the best term is "this man is a human hero", but the sentiment is very true. This man rocks! :D
So say we all !!!!
"SO SAY WE ALL"

@Xelanderthomas More powerful not to address them? Why? If there is an issue, you address it.

Heh, he visited Wayne State University in Detroit; loved it when he started swearing up a storm.
But what did the Family Guy UN delegation have to say?
so say we all!!!!!! :D
So say we all, Admiral! So say we all!!
Awsome video.
i fucking stood up at the end and shouted along with him.
HOLY FUCK.
I think with the statement he is making here, "this man is a human hero" would be more appropriate, but the sentiment is very true, legend! :D

I bet in a hundred years, the UN will be saying SO SAY WE ALL!!!.............without hesitation.
