Or maybe love the gameplay mechanics, just like me. Which is the main reason I got myself into PGR (and glad that I stayed). Well, the gacha /gambling a little bit aswell but considering how the rate system works and how easy to do daily and weekly, it's not really into my concern. Played Aether Gazer aswell, but I can't seem to enjoy it as much as PGR.

Gacha game was meant to trap the vulnerable ones. Those are people who cant resist their gambling addiction and dont know when to stop pulling gacha. Lots of people can play gacha while they resist the temptation, and these people are not the main target of gacha games.
This is why people call gacha as predatory aspect of the game. Because it prey on vulnerable ones.

I sure do love only playing Limbus Company as my gacha of choice. I haven't spent a dime, I haven't grinded very much , I started nearly 5-6 months after launch, and I currently have nearly everything in the game. Fear of missing out is kept to a minimum and spending money is not necessary, especially given how frequently the devs give out free pulls like every week is christmas. A peak story, weekly new content, interesting enough gameplay, and devs that actually respect my time and realize that I can't spend all my time or life savings on their game. The game is especially great for fans of Project Moon's earlier work, which I actually only went back to play after playing Limbus. It's a gacha game made by people who don't know how to make a gacha game, and I think that is a REALLY good thing.

I already said this in one of Touhousniper's video, gacha games saved me during the darkest period of my life. I played FGO NA the longest from year 1 to last year before the summer event. I tried all of the gachas games available during the time and now, I am simply finished with gacha games. I also got everyone I wanted from FGO so that really helped ease the quitting. From all saber faces to all favorite waifus like Hokusai.
I don't hate gachas or regret the spent time and money, it was one of the few things that made life bearable during those times. I will always look fondly on my time playing them, its a bit funny because those new upcoming banners made me postpone the unlife date until I forget to set a unlife date lmao.

So many people in the comments justifying their addiction to gacha games. Just back off your gacha for a min and play a AAA game for a while and you'll see what fun actually is. For 4-5 years I played Honkai 3rd, 7DS Grand Cross, and Genshin Impact logging in daily, doing my daily quests, not spending too much money, complaining that there's no content while lying to myself that it was fun. Then I played RDR2 for the first time and holy cow, it amazed me how we forget that gaming shouldn't be a chore but something to actually enjoy and relax with. After that I stayed on more great games GoW 2018 and Ragnarok, and Elden Ring, Zelda, Alan Wake 2 (the list goes on and on) and I love how healthy and therapeutic gaming has become for me.
Seeing videos like these where they talk about gacha mechanincs and the endless grinding made me realize how biased I was.
I truly believe saying that a game like Genshin Impact is better than any GOTY is bias at its truest form.

i only stuck with 3 games to this day and stayed with gfl, limbus, and occasionally ak, mostly because i dont actually have to spend too much time (except ak) on them except certain times like events. nowadays i play games solely for story, and while i tried alot of other gachas, those 2 stuck story and character wise with better grinding (and ive reached the point where AK is kind off unbearable to keep consistent for me). ive heard things about nikkes story and path to nowhere, but honestly im sticking with 2+1 main games until they die out (which they probably wont, since ill probably play their sequels because im invested in them).
remember to learn your limits in games in general, and i wouldn't recommend going over 2 games since youre trading time much worth being used for skills and knowledge, or just experiencing actual better written or meaningful games (as somebody who played gacha games since atleast 8 years or so) when time is already extremely strained and pressed for many things.
edit: also forgot to mention how im so thankful mica team made gfl less painful grinding much later on with less corpse dragging and more passive investment with forward basecamp, otherwise i probably wouldve either dropped or hate myself for playing gfl

  • @charginginprogresss

I also started with FGO, but my problem was that I spent too much...time.
The gacha is weird and unrewarding yeah, but once you get past the first year or so, your roster ramps up so much with all the random spooks that you actually end up having a lot of SSRs, more than you ever expected.
FGO's issue is the fact you still have to manually farm all nodes one at a time, and it seems it will always stay like this.
Most events require you to farm 50-100 times event stages to clear the shop, and lottery events are basically "yea give all your free time to me baby"
It's just excruciatingly tiresome. And you realize it only after playing a game that is less predatory of your time.
The issue with that is that the game that made me quit FGO is instead predatory in a different way...thankfully I managed to quit that one too last year, and now I will never play any game from that company, even that one turn based that came recently and it does right what the other game does wrong and it's honestly very good and well done and generous and not predatory...but no thanks, you betrayed me with your other "indie game", and that was your one chance with me. Lmao.

Right now I'm only playing blue archive, PGR, despite giving most things free, I just had burn out with boring events. My biggest issue with gacha is the feeling of playing the bare minimum of what the game usually offers after you are done with the good stuff. In paid games, that would be the point where you stop, but for gacha, no grind or dailies means no pulls, and characters is one big selling point for these games. Burnt out is just evident.

I'm not saying video games are bad, but I've just realized that investing too much time in grinding is actually a waste of life. I've reached a point where I hate playing games of toxic and frustrating game systems, yet I can't stop and end up playing anyway. It is one of the most beautiful and the most darkest stories ive seen so far with a ton of (enter MatPat voice) *LOOOORE* and one of the most complex and interesting power systems ive seen while still being one of the most overpowered broken power systems aswell lol. And girls are hot too. And the game itself just looks beautiful with some of the best looking scenery ive seen in a game despite it being mainly not open world even though there is open world in the game its not the part of the main story so i wont count it. Talking about Part 1 becuase i havent played Part 2 yet and i know that is open world but idk since i didnt get to that part yet.
So yea i think its cool and i think all the players will agree with me on this.
Also i dont spend money on games unless its for cosmetics or something becuase i enjoy playing them and i havent spent more than 15 dollars on this game and that was becuase there was a limited outfit i really liked that i had to pay for becuase i was late to the event and couldnt get it on time otherwise. I dont even do character builds or team builds i just play what i like and enjoy the game unless im grinding for something and put on the best build i can make with what i have and speedrun the grind lol. So yea i dont think playing Honkai Impact 3rd is a waste if you genuinely enjoy playing it and i would reccomend the game to everyone becuase someone might like it.

To be real, Arknights and Azur Lane are the only two gacha games I ever get into. It’s funny because I took a 7-month break on AL and the moment Destiny 2 was flopping and felt disinterested from it for a time, I got back into the shipgirls. Now, I’m slowly getting the go-to priority ships I see some popular AL YTbers have. Plus some of them do pretty good damage and have great survivability. But through all of this, the only things I spend are the monthly payments for the two. With the side of others costing under $10, if I want to. Emphasis on want and not need.

The only gacha game I picked up and dedicate to is arknights, I tried pcr before, but the arena pvp and guild boss is just too grindy and exhausting for me, so I gave up on that only after a few months - and it surprised me even more when I heard the game shut down its EN server last year - guess it is indeed too grindy to attract enough cash flow.
I register ak on day 2 of global launch (cuz I forgot to bind my day 1 account and lost it), and for the past 4 years or so, I login everyday, doing every event, grab every medal sets, and really invested into this game. The daily routine of ak can be just two logins a day and 30-45 mins to use the sanity (stamina in ak), swap the base operators to keep the passive incomes going, and claim daily mission rewards - plain and simple. But even that I eventually get tired of it, so I start to use some external assist to help me get my daily done, and only pay some attentions when there's new event & banner drops.
Hell, I am not surprised if one day I just feel like "let's take a break from it" and make it permanent like you did with FGO, and start using the money I usually put in arknights for buying some legit games on steam or just improve the life quality.

So ur 2nd gacha was AL? Nice! My 1st gacha, and thus introduction to the concept of gacha as a whole was AL. I didn’t learn that AL was a gacha, and wat a gacha is til GI released and I picked it up and got bashed in the head w wat it chose to do for its gacha, steal from its players essentially. Once I learned about GI gacha system I realized all I needed to know and understand about AL and it’s gacha and how fucking nice and generous yostar is. I came to the realization that gacha games r usually very greedy but AL chose to take a different route. the gacha was mainly used as an excuse as to why and how we got 4-7 new shipfus to collect every 2-4 weeks from new patches.
I’ve been playing AL for 5 years now. And I’m in love w it and that love has never wained.
Rn I play AL daily without fail. And on the side I play GI and HSR, I sometimes miss a day or 2 here and there, or even sometimes week(s) upto month(s) in the case of GI. I tried AK twice, failed to like the game at all. And there is probably close to a dozen more gacha games I wanna try out but I lack the time and storage space on my phone to do so. There was 1 or 2 rinkie dink gacha games that I tried but they were unpolished closturfucks that almost got me to stay but they failed for reasons only done by small indie companies can. I actualły kinda feel bad for not enjoying 1 of them more and ended up silently quitting like that. 1 of them came so close to being my 2nd fav video game, behind AL. And about 90+% of the reason being the UI. The UI looked gud, but old and I struggled to understand and navigate it.

I've been playing granblue fantasy for 7 years and in those 7 years i waste my time only for that game, even to the point when i play 17 hrs everyday just to get higher rank in guild war. But after i break for 2 years and comeback i can control my time for granblue from 12 - 17 hrs to just 1 or 2 hrs a day and doing something else useful to my life. The point is there would be a time when you tired of the game and break, if that happen use that time properly and when you comeback to your game control yourself so you not fall to the same hole twice

Heyy... my journey was similar like yours too!
But my starting lane was Brave Frontier, then FGO. Now my main games are AK, PGR, AL and HSR.
I agree with you, gacha games are slow burn and frustrating. Well, at least I'm a student so my spending are very limited.

Yes, Fate Grand Order got me into gacha games, 7 knights its now closed and FF Brave Exvius. its the adrenaline and excitement of getting a super super rare character that got me hooked. its like a drug to be honest. i am now focused on playing Star Rail, turned based games seems to be my comfort, but i would login to FGO sometimes.

As long as you don’t spend money and you find a good work life balance,it should be fine. That’s not really a Gacha problem and just a degeneracy problem

damn man, more or less it was the same to me, I have literally played every game you have mentioned. I dedicated (wasted) like 2 years of my life trying to grind for the new waifus even if I didn't enjoy the gameplay or the game anymore. I managed to get out of the gacha hell like 3 months ago and man, I feel like as I've earned more by leaving those games than what all my savings there.
If you're in a similar situation, just think that those pixels are not worth the price they're sold for, and if you like the story, then most of the time you don't need the newest or strongest characters, you can just play the story and leave, as if it was another normal game!
And you don't need to own the waifus/husbandos to enjoy them, the fanarts of them are free to search for, if you know what I mean.
P.D.: I used to play 14 simultaneous gachas everyday, now that I think about it I can't figure out how did I manage to do so.

veteran here who has spent way more then i ever even should have ever even conceived to spend. my experience after 7 years of gacha and whaleing (sometimes on games that went down a year later) *Spirit Pledge* the most important thing to do when you start a gacha game is to determine what you want from it. if you dont do this you will be chaseing your tail. the sad reality is for most gacha games the end game is boreing and underwhelming a vast majority of the time the grind WAS the most "game" part of the gacha game. im at the end of every gacha game that i still play or hasnt been shut down and honestly? its pretty depressing and boring. i put all this effort into these games to reach the end only to find out, its empty at the top. Also for anyone who still plays FGO use FGA fate grand automata it has that auto battle feature you crave.

    1. Spend little to no money, 2. Pick ONE game, 3. Prioritize what you like about the game, 4. Take breaks when you need them, 5. Ignore RUclipsrs and other influencers.
    Thanks for the advice!

finally someone who i can relate to, financially yes, it can screw you over if you really can't handle the fomo and control your wallet, but the biggest offender for me was the time. It's double edged, you get copiumed into thinking the dailies/weeklies only take 5 or whatever amount of minutes, but in reality it eats up more, and encroaches. Some people can't even work out daily, and these games ask you to spend the little time you have per day on it, not to mention if you play multiple of them. Say goodbye to your freetime and sanity when theres colliding events or major story launches. those 5 minutes turn into hours per day.

I recommend playing only 2 games if you still have some life left with 5 being the limit of the slightly less sane average person

The only gacha i play is genshin impact, seriously never bother to build character to perfection. As long as they kill overworld enemy,i am satisfied. I play it more for open world and story than gacha stuff.

Some of the games are not available in the US app stores, and as a free-to-play player, the only games I play are Princess Connect! Re: Dive and Cookie Run: Kingdom, because I love both the franchises.
Touhou Lostword is a fan game, and Princess Connect! Re: Dive was shut down on April 30, 2023 by Crunchyroll, resulting in lots of controversy and rebellion against Crunchyroll.
I will come back to CRK and Lostword, but I will swear vengeance for the PriConne gals, no matter what it takes!
The Battle Cats is part of a gacha game series developed by PONOS, a spiritual ancestor and successor to most gacha companies like Cygames and Devsisters, and I highly recommend The Battle Cats over all other gacha games.

gacha summon gamble system is criminal and should be illegal…you can spend 1000$ and not getting the character you need (for the meta). its a sick world. and if you become addict (myself) too…you will spend for this trash instead paying your bills or appartment. very dangerous, be careful.

My first gacha was Summoners War. Great game but my god do you need to invest alot of time into it. Especially for events. I switched over to Arknights (couldnt download both so dropped SW) and there has been times where i felt i needed to invest as much as back with SW but that was for one or two of the events, the rest have been fine. Would have played Genshin Impact if i was able to. I am fully free to play so both of these games have been pretty good in that regard.
Would be interested to atleast try out some others but are either unable to play them or dont have the storage to. Though two big reasons i enjoy gacha would be looter shooters and anime, its always nice to get something rare and a bonus if they look good too.

You forgot to mention join a guild that has Guild Wars. Nothing like peer pressure to give yourself an excuse to whale to keep your account strong in order for your guild to rank highly. Granblue Fantasy says hello.
