Super honored to be a part of this one Coach, Thank you for the opportunity to work side by side with you. Even that corner wicked up and over and it was stuck pretty good. The guys and I had a great time at the workshop. The Tile Redi Pan makes sense its a great product..
It will be awesome when the flat bottom Tile Redi pan are available to the general public. I recently did the Tile Redi pan with the mortar application and it is quite a challenging operation. Very messy and time-consuming. Thanks for bringing us all this education Isaac. You’re the best Tile channel on RUclips for sure.
Using the Schluter waterproofing system is like building a shelter from scratch-it’s reliable but requires skill, multiple materials, and precise installation steps. The Tile Redi system is like using a pre-fabricated, ready-to-install shelter. It’s a simpler, more dummy proof solution that minimizes errors and is faster making it the better choice Thank you Isaac , always giving us great information!
Not the 1st time you've done this type of comparison. This one was way more detailed than others. Thinset can not be a waterproofing binder with fleece & expect it to hold up over the LT of the shower. Especially when it's designed with a bonding flange pan install! Schluter's tech science thinking for buildings a WP shower contradics the entire process! Nice Job Dude! KOKO!
Just installed a tile redi pan with the redi wall. I don’t have anything to compare it to as this was the first time ever doing a shower but it went in smooth and was overall I feel confident that it’s not going to leak which was the most important thing for me.
Should the banding pull off this easily though? Was the thinset allowed to cure 24 hrs before flood testing? It looks like the area with adhesion and wicking/standing water issues did not have good coverage as you can see the trowel marks. That wasn't a good install.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Should the banding pull off that easily and from my small amount of experience you really shouldn’t see the travel marks so I don’t think enough pressure was applied when setting the banding. My two cents. I do really like the idea of those tile already pans. Thinking about ordering one for A 72 x 42“ shower still not sure exactly where to put the drain Ctr. left right somewhere in there from what I understand with tile ready you can pretty much put the drain Anywhere you want when you order up the pan. But it’s gonna be like $1600 for the pan.
@larryhack4038 tile redi and prefabbed pans are definitely my choice if I had a choice. I would only go with a schluter or similar method if you needed something custom and and aren't able to move the drain to the desired location. But the schluter was not installed properly.
Curious why the option of a porcelain-coated steel/cast iron shower pan doesn't get brought up - Kohler as well as others sell them. Quick to set - extremely durable - reasonable cost - solid to stand on - no seams (until you get past the curb level).
2:35 So the Tile Redi with flat bottom is a standard feature now? In the past the cu$tom pans were flat ( and black) but the standard ones had ribs . I didn't find it on the web site
Once it's tiled and grouted ,here in Ireland we started grouting the tile showers with epoxy grout which is waterproof.showers won't have that much water in them ,I get it if it's a swimming pool ,but good video
Thanks for all your videos. Would like to see a curbless tile redi video would be cool. Curious if heat cables can easily be integrated as well. Just ditra over it & raise elevation of drain?
In 2019-2020 we did around 4-500 shower conversions in a hotel with the 3x5 tile redi pans. Never had any leaks. Back then the pan tile had to be set in epoxy, I guess you just use thinset now. I just wish they could be cut down onsite like schluter and other pans, but I guess the integrated side walls are part of what make it dummy proof
A comparison to something like a Hydroblock pan with sealant at the wall-pan joints would be interesting. The hydroblok install just as fast as the TileReady and are much more flexible in terms of fitting to a variety of shower sizes.
I’ve never had a problem with the schluter system. I was taught to put an another coat of the All-Set on the ditra tape. It seals completely and no rework. Technique is everything brother. Get vids and crew expo.
Really impressed with TileRedi, have not used it yet but plan to make it the main system I use. But another major downside is the limited sizes of pan they offer. I think it tops out at 48x72, which is mighty big but some exec home owners want giant dual walk in showers of larger dimensions.
I have doing showers for over 20years ,I wasn't fan Schulter from day one ,I have been useing tile ready It only makes sense, ther will be no failure ..if Schulter it's self did the work It will still WICK..I have installed O curb below floor that have lasted over 10years..🐊🌴😎
I would love to see a flood test and the amount of water wicking between sheet membranes if you burned/keyed in the thinset to the backside of the sheet membranes before laying them down?
I am about to have a shower torn out that leaked from a standard pan. The installer is a Schluter installer. Now I am nervous about it. Should we insist Hydraban on the seals?
Can you cover how doors are installed with the Redi Pan, sliding or swinging? It's not clear if the curb is rigid enough to accept screws (or maybe you don't use screws?).
Isaac, isn't there a thinset that has polymers in it so that the banding adhesion can cure? I understand that thinset isn't waterproof, but how can even a perfect install ever dry out?
Just finished a shluter shower. First time ever doing a shower. It was fairly difficult but now I’m scared it’s gonna leak even though I did the flood test. Definitely doing a tile ready pan on the next shower.
Did you follow directions and use only Schluter products? Did you use the special corners they recommended. This video was not a true test. This guy is doing such a good job on his videos yet he did not portray a fair test in this video. German made products are great, but you do have to follow the directions exactly.
I would like to do a bathtub to shower conversion using Tile Redi, but I don't want to tile the shower pan (just the walls). Do they make an acrylic shower pan that would work with their Redi Walls? Or would any acrylic shower pan work with the Redi wall?
Hi Isaac, our company decided to stop pouring pans and are now using a structural foam pan made by a local company Shower Concepts, however we still need to waterproof it. We use a product similar to Schluter and Kerdi membranes…. I do like it but that tile ready pan looks way better !!! We did experiment with another pan company that used a foam pan but coated it with some kind of maybe urethane as good as those were that company took 6-8 weeks to make the pan….
So TC, if Schluter install was allowed more time to cure in between initial membrane adhesion and flood-test, do you think you would be able to peal membrane so easily and also would there still be wicking? For what I am understanding thin-set needs to fully cure and bond to prevent moisture penetration. Just not sure who has time to wait! What would be full cure time out of your experience? As you know, per manufacturer wait time is only 24 hours.
absolutely, I thought this myself. Also if he used Allset Modified. it would have cured quicker and is approved for over and under Schluter membranes. But yes, more time to cure and bond would improve water penetration around the banding when flood testing
This isn't the one I was thinking about, but here is a 50 day water test on schluter. The other video I saw was much more scientific, it might take me a day or two to find it. I know I've saved it somewhere. ruclips.net/video/huGpE1bot00/видео.html&ab_channel=TheBuilditChannel
I’m too nervous to ever use schluter pans on the floor. I’ve done around a dozen pans and I just do my own mud pan and seal It with mapei or laticrete liquid membrane. I’ve thought about using schluter membrane over the pan with liquid waterproofing proofing membrane and laticrete fiber mesh tape over the joints and seams. I’ve never had a drop get through my floors tests with the liquid membrane but thinset never seems to be waterproof no matter how high of quality. I dunno, I just research and over engineer
My fav choice. Easy to do and make your own guides or buy For slope. Cheap tools to pack it. Rock hard and waterproof with few coats of liquid membranes and mesh tape
I’ve done both TileRedi and Schluter. Biggest drawback to TileRedi is that you cannot drill into it to mount glass. If you’re doing a plain sliding door, no big deal, but if you have custom glass that is supposed to be mounted to the base…. That’s an issue.
I'm quite sure that I listened and learned and heard, that SCHULTER is a Great system and yet Now, I'm beginning to feel regretful that I tore out the watertight metal pans in my out showers when renovating. Time will tell and my ceilings down below.
You’re right! But I’ve gotten used to it over the years. Just subtract an eighth of an inch where there is a Kerdi corner. I also tend to smooth out my thinset, in sort of a ramping motion, to avoid any immediate bumps at the corner pieces.
For schluter systems just simply grab some hydroban membrane and go over the dryed thinset on the joints with the brush that will solve forever and there will be very little room for error, and u will never have an issue and will pass 1 year foold test
I never understood why banding is the preferred method, vs a liquid topical or a sealant. Maybe it's harder to mess up banding? Logically it makes no sense.
Seems like if you're a homeowner, even if you're not DIYing it, you're probably better off specifying a system like Tile Redi unless you're 100% certain that your installer will do everything perfectly with a membrane system. Like how well do you REALLY know your installer's skill level?
The pan in the video would be our standard sizes which ship in 2-3 days. The custom Redi Your Way shower pans take a bit longer since they are made specific to your needs. These custom pans ship in 3-4 weeks.
i dont know how much the standing water in the schluter pan matters. because even with the tile redi pan, you are still tiling it and it will still have standing water in spots under the tile where 100% coverage isnt achieved, one of the places being the perimeter. In my opintion, all tiled pans will have some amount of standing water inside them and what matters is if they dont leak. If you want standing water in your system, dont use a tiled pan! but the tile redi pan looks superior in many other aspects.
One of the key points is where that seam exists on a Tile Redi pan. The point where the wall connects to the shower pan splash wall are 5.75" above the floor. The water will fall below that where there is no potential for water filtration. Our pans are manufactured to be one piece.
Schluter is after efficiency… The system is not meant to be flooded for an extended time. Just long enough to take a shower and dry out. There are better options, but they should be weighted by the purchaser. Efficiency, speed, simplicity, warranty, just like shower systems… They are all over the place just need to figure out what works best for you in the end.
You’re supposed to wait 24 hours after setting Kerdi before performing a flood test. Did you wait 24 hours before performing the test? The problem with tile redi is that you have to order it online and wait for it to arrive. Tile redi may be hard to get a tight fit causing more work furring out walls. Their curbs are bulky and ugly unless you order a custom size. The schluter system can be found at your local store and you can go over the seams with liquid waterproofing so you won’t have to worry about any wicking under the banding. It’s totally customizable to fit any space. Just paint over the seams with hydroban or whatever and you won’t have worry about it.
Until Kerdi has a complete waterproof system I STILL will not use them. I had a customer whose child would plug the drain on purpose just to play. Doesn't leak but I can't SLEEP!!!
My opinion: 1- All-Set from Schluter is much better than Thin-Set 2- The Thin-set should be added with extra water, looks too thick which is not good 3- Daniel should not be using the trowel side to install, the flat side is the correct one 4- The water test should be done at least 48 hours after install 5- Schluter Systems should be finalized with Hydroban or AquaDefense for a 100% waterproofing ALWAYS! 6- This install is a completely FAILURE because Daniel don't know what he's doing.. sorry!
@@mattjudy6780go back and look at Issac past testing of Schluter pans that he did, and waited appropriate curing. It still wicks under! Not me with Schluter Junk! I’m no newbie
@chipmhandle ill be more than happy to fly out and build one. This guy did not install the banding correctly. And if your shower is flooded for days at a time, you have bigger issues anyway
@@mattjudy6780 cut the installer a bit of slack on this one. I was there. He had relatively thick thinset to work with, only one putty knife to smooth it, and was racing Isaac on the other side. He found out it was being flood tested during the install. 😊
This is the scary thing about Schluter, it is too fraught with little things that compromise it, I would trust hardly anyone, not even me taking painstaking steps to do it exactly right. Way too fussy. If a tiler guy like Daniel can’t get it right that is huge! Not something to be downplayed. Have him test one you do in the same way. You don’t rip yours up to see. Tile Redi is fine, love the idea, but their lip on a large custom curbless was too damn high. I know you have a thing for Wedi, I think you are a smart guy but in this case unfairly prejudiced, yes I have seen the video, but guess what, even an idiot like me can install it and it is hard to screw up like Schluter. Waterproof throughout, passes the same tile drop test too.
Seems to me the Schluter system was not done right for this test. Suggest you follow directions before saying it failed. Must use products by Schluter and follow directions. Many people can do that action. Also use Schluter pan that can be bought not the fabric roll. The biggest problem is the price. Would suggest just mention is higher priced. Don't rig your comparisons or will lose credibility in reviews.
Schluter sux... imo(done correctly or not)... so many layers, relying on mortar to hold water between bands, over band upon corner bands... please?! Plus the build up!!... tile ready seams fine, however. Only comes in certain sizes (not customizable)
when will you all just put this nonsense to rest and start recommending acrylic shower pans instead of the ever failing tiled shower pan. get over it already. tiled pans are not so good looking that they out do the fail proof capabilities of acrylic.
I've been watching all these shower pan systems videos prior to doing my tub to shower remodel and asking the same question. The older fiberglass tubs and shower pans do look tired and cheap after many years, but I'd assume the new acrylics will maintain their finish longer. I can see why some/many people prefer the look of tile on both walls and pan floor, but I guess the bigger appeal is the trend for custom sized and huge ass showers. The acrylics will always be easier to clean and have less reaction to minerals in the water . Any feedback on whether composite pans are more or less 'bulletproof' ??
Everytime huh? Installed one in my home 11 years ago. Still looks great. No leaks. No tile or grout popping/cracking etc. Did an incap in my crawlspace over the summer. Bone dry under the pan
@@mattjudy6780 you are lucky one . Watch all the horror videos about this junk. Their decoupling plastic membrane is pure junk. They had so many lawsuits it is unbelievable they are still in business. They had to pay homeowners thousands of dollars because of their failed products. Some of their products are engineering nonsense. MAPEI is the best I have demised Shluter old showers. I every time I see horrible defects not because of the installers but because of the crappy products.

Hey does the tile ready pan require special thinset?
I know you can’t use schtuler thinsets with it but many others work with it. There is a list of approved thinsets on their website .
Whats the smallest tile i can use on tile redi pan ... Say i have very tin glass hexagon. Will the drain accept an 1/8 in thick tile

Alot of membrane systems just have too much room for error. Dry pack and roll-on (hydroban, etc) seem like the clear choices, especially for DIY.

This is the way. These companies are never going to honor their warranties anyway. Just buy the best of what actually works and Frankenstein them.
Until Kerdi has a complete waterproof system I STILL will not use them. I had a customer whose child would plug the drain on purpose just to play. Doesn't leak but I can't SLEEP!!!
The problem with the Schluter system is the thinset. There is something wrong.
Why would anyone want a shower that you have to wait for it to dry between uses???
Hi Isaac
Tile redi shower grates are so ugly though I like the grates from Flo fx
My opinion:
1- All-Set from Schluter is much better than Thin-Set
2- The Thin-set should be added with extra water, looks too thick which is not good
3- Daniel should not be using the trowel side to install, the flat side is the correct one
4- The water test should be done at least 48 hours after install
5- Schluter Systems should be finalized with Hydroban or AquaDefense for a 100% waterproofing ALWAYS!
6- This install is a completely FAILURE because Daniel don't know what he's doing.. sorry!
50 bucks for a can of aqua defense that will last multiple showers is cheap insurance. At least hit the joints and drain.

Now show a comparison with a schluter system installed correctly. Because that guy didnt do it correctly as you stated.
Only if you fly out and build it. I’ll buy the tickets! Would make a great video.
@TileCoach deal. Let me know when you're ready and I'll let you know if that time works for me
@@mattjudy6780go back and look at Issac past testing of Schluter pans that he did, and waited appropriate curing.
Morter mud bed still the best after 50 years
This is the scary thing about Schluter, it is too fraught with little things that compromise it, I would trust hardly anyone, not even me taking painstaking steps to do it exactly right.
The Schluter system is way overcomplicated. I'd rather go old school than risk that system.
Schluter schlemiel
Too many overlapping “layers” means failure each & every time.
answer = neither.
Long story short…membranes are a thing of the past that should have never existed in the first place.
I used Schluter in my showers and will never do it again. Their system just isn’t perfectly water proof and water will ingress.
Schluter sux... imo(done correctly or not)... so many layers, relying on mortar to hold water between bands, over band upon corner bands... please?! Plus the build up!!... tile ready seams fine, however. Only comes in certain sizes (not customizable)
I will say it - the schulder system does Not work.. will eventually weak
when will you all just put this nonsense to rest and start recommending acrylic shower pans instead of the ever failing tiled shower pan. get over it already. tiled pans are not so good looking that they out do the fail proof capabilities of acrylic.
Never Shluter
Fails 100% every time
The biggest junk on the planet.
Use Mapei and forget about it.
MAPEI is the best
I have demised Shluter old showers. I every time I see horrible defects not because of the installers but because of the crappy products.
this is just straight misinformation.
SCHLUTER SUCKS PERIOD
Schluter systems are like Democrats!
Neither. Lead is the best
I prefer the hydroblock system over schleuter.
