2:42 gets me everytime. That note was pristine, clear and powerful and sounded just like the record, and then she punctuated it with a serious growl. Just an incredible voice and she's so stunning.
kayteeelle She still is. I saw her last year. Only song she did from her debut album was "How can I Ease the Pain." That was disappointing. That whole album is FIRE!!! She still ROCKED IT!!!
Rudolph Mcneill I saw her in Atlanta last year (coming back in October). To my astonishment, she is very impressed with a lot of things I had said about her musically on Twitter.
@kayteeelle was is right. Have you seen her lately she's let herself go. I saw her in a documentary about a year a go and she doesn't wear makeup, she's gain weight and she doesn't dress up anymore. I was disappointed that she didn't keep up her appearance.
1991, Tokyo was in climax of the bubble economy and the corruption of it is creeping just around th corner soundlessly. This TV show makes me remember the heat and the fever of Tokyo at that time. Everyone was rich like a King. So many Mercedes, Porsches and Ferraris on the streets of Roppongi and Shibuya. Nobody knew the corruption was coming. That was an amazing era.
She co-wrote Save Me with Narada Michael Walden, who alongside Louis Biancaniello produced the song and a year later, both guys produced Whitney Houston’s cover of I’m Every Woman.
And while the song ‘So Tender’ is playing in the background. I get so ticklish (in a good way) with that song not only because of her powerful seductive voice, but also because the word ‘tender’ itself in a romantic sense makes me think about being intimately touched by someone.
Fun fact: The girl who sang Let the Music Play was paid $100 and not signed at the time of the recording. She was an accountant and didn't want to become Shannon the recording artist. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Sergio (who owned Emergency Records), tried to sign Lisa to become the performing and recording artist who would represent the act going forward and duplicate the original vocal for live gigs. Lisa turned the deal down and the original singer finally decided to become a recording star when the record exploded. It amazes me that Lisa never really made it while several hacks in the era (who will go unnamed) did. That's the music business. 1/3rd talent, 1/3rd push, and 1/3rd luck.
Interesting fact. In the documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, Lisa seems to share Shannon's feelings. Check out Lisa singing Tight Fit behind Chaka Khan and see Lisa's pure joy.
I watched a RUclips video of an interview Lisa did in the early 2000s and the interviewer mentioned about the song On The Upside which was shortly after Let The Music Play. Both Lisa and Shannon were also born in Brooklyn and are just months apart.
I agree w/ your equation, Billy Bob. But I would say she made it: She won a Grammy for "How Can I Ease the Pain" and sang backup for Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, the Rolling Stones and others. She preferred background vocals over the pressure of a solo career. She still performs as an admired soloist.
@@stevelangely8004 Three years ago, my mother (when she found out I was a fan of Lisa) was telling me about an interview she did with legendary radio personality Tom Joyner. In the interview she echoed the same thing. I myself actually suspected that with how the music world at that time revolved around Whitney and Mariah (both who also had a hit produced by Narada Michael Walden in 1991). At times, the industry likes to pit talent against talent or equalize.
@@251to502 Yes, Whitney, Mariah and Lisa are all sopranos who peaked simultaneously, so the comparisons and competition were inevitable. Lisa seemed more content on focusing on the craft of singing-- not superstardom.
Speaking of Cheryl Lynn, Lisa did backing vocals on her 1985 album ‘It’s Gonna Be Right’ with the song ‘Let Me Love You’ which was written by James Williams (who like Fischer is a Brooklyn native) of D Train.

That guy had a big crush on Lisa. 😁 He was blushing and giggling like a kid. She was and still is fine so can’t blame him at all.
I don’t blame him either. I was flushed myself when I met her back in February 2020.
@@251to502 Lisa looks very tall. Is she?

Awwww man I forgot about this. Knew she had an uptempo hit too though. I'm back in the early 90s listening to it.
