How To Make A Shower Floor White Clean Again With Oven Cleaner

- If you are a landlord or live in a college dorm you will likely experience a super nasty shower or tub floor at some point. Floors this dirty looking are no match for normal cleaning solutions and may seem like a complete loss. Hopefully this video showing how I cleaned a "non-cleanable" shower floor with oven cleaner will help salvage some nasty shower floors out there.

Surprisingly oven cleaner works surprisingly well to make dirty black shower floors clean and white again. In this video I show how I spray an entire can of oven cleaner on a dirty shower floor and let it soak for several hours. I then scrub the floor with an abrasive pad and brush and the shower cleans to an almost new appearance.
Note: This shower floor is fiberglass base. Oven cleaner is potent stuff (strongly alkaline) that may react differently with other materials. It is wise to wear skin and eye protection and make sure the area is vented extremely well. - Хобби

Can I have to use easy off or can I use any brand
One thing I'd like to add. If you boil water and pour it over the tub AFTER letting the Easy Off do it's stuff, the dirt seems to come up much easier. At least it did for me.
Omg, the previous person who lived here left my shower floor like this and I thought I'd never get it out. This worked! So happy!
Great to hear the video was helpful in renewing you shower floor
I was amazed how well Easy Off oven cleaner and the erase pads worked. I left the oven cleaner work for more than 4 hours before wiping with an erase pad. Thank you so much for this information.
Thank you Mr. Kistel!! Tried the Heavy Duty Easy Off oven cleaner and we cannot more pleased. We sprayed the cleaner on very thick as you suggested and let it set for 40 minutes and, PRESTO, aftering ceaning the fiberglass looks like new. Cannot Thank You enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I can say is WOW..................I purchased 1 can of the Oven Cleaner just to test it out. I sprayed the entire can on the shower floor and I had coated the floor very well. The next day I started scrubbing and what a surprise all that scum and dirt was starting to lift!!!! I was so excited and amazed after all the cleaning solutions that I've purchased this was the only thing that actually worked. I went back to the store to purchase another can and decided to purchase the no name brand, started the same process but it didn't work the same. The rest of the dirt and scum did not lift ...........I will be going back to the store to purchase the name brand!!!!!! This was an excellent tip for 2016!!!!!!
We use that but we spry it at night after all use....let it work as we sleep and rinse it clean in the morning. No scrubbing. Works perfect for us.
Oh my gosh! I'm so thankful that I came across this video. I used an off-brand because that's all I could find. I sprayed it and let it set for about 2.5 hours. I tried the hot water like another commenter suggested. As soon as I poured the hot water over it, the gunk and grime started to come off. I did that about 3 more times before I actually had to scrub very lightly. I must admit I was a little skeptical about whether this would really work but I'm glad I gave it a try.
Saw this and tried it.. It worked wonders after nothing would get the stains off my shower floor! Great video!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Just amazing! I have a textured fiberglass floor stall shower. I've lived here for 15 years and little by little that floor has gotten darker and darker and nothing has worked to bring it back to it's original white brightness. I've used Comet with little success. A little bit better when I used FSR (Fiberglass Stain Remover). Today I decided to try your suggestion. I still can't get over it. I sprayed the Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner pretty heavily over half the floor. I let it sit for more than two hours. Then I used a scrubber sponge and 'every' bit of that darkness came off with a little elbow grease. I rinsed it clean and that half is now sparkling white. I'll do the other half tomorrow but, I'm sure it will turn out the same. It may be a little thing to some but, I can't thank you enough for turning back the years on my master bath shower stall.
so glad to hear this was helpful for you
WOW! Magic! Works, like new! make sure you use Blue Can and a Non Scratch Scotch Brite Pad! Made My Day!
thanks for the knowledge , I bought a can , and it really worked wow, tub is so so clean now
Thank you very much for this tip. It worked for us--it took one can and a couple of hours with elbow grease, but what a difference!
2 hours??? Really? That's a lot of scrubbing time. Or did you wait 2 hrs to let it do the elbow grease for you?
Thanks for the timeline and input
This is AMAZING! When I bought my house the tub was dingy in the bottom. I have tried EVERYTHING to clean it. I finally went online and came across this video. I tried it last night. I sprayed down the tub floor with Easy Off and scrubbed it a little. I then re-sprayed the tub floor and tub walls and let it sit in the tub overnight. This morning I rinsed out the tub and it looks great! Thank you for this little tip. I will be sharing it with my friends.
+Kristy Garcia Glad it worked well for you. Thanks
Kristi, what is your tub made of? Is it that old porcelain/ceramic surface, or it is more like fiberglass?
I tried this, this morning! It works wonderfully! Thank you! By the way, my husband thought I was crazy when I shared this with him.
+Latoya Russell Hope he was happy with the results! Thanks for watching and the comment
thanx man big help
Wow! Saw someone else demo it on their channel, and it worked, too! I can't wait to try it!
I tried this last week. Our pan was disgusting and nothing worked. I tried this trick and let it sit for a few hours. I could not believe how well it worked. I still look at the pan when I shower with amazement. Awesome stuff.
Great job!
OMgosh....I'm so happy I found your page. I've tried every recommended cleaning product on the shower pan and nothing worked. Your oven cleaner tip is the bomb! It totally works!! THANK YOU!!!!!
I have tile walls in my shower with scum and mildew in the grout left by a tenant. Do you know if the easy off will harm tile and grout? Thanks
I was a little skeptical at first, but this method is the bomb! I tried CLR, Kaboom, cleanser, scrub pads, etc. None of these things worked. I sprayed on the Easy-Off, let it set for about 3 hours, and took the hand-held shower head to rinse it down. I was amazed to see years of grime start peeling away! It didn't take much scrubbing with the Magic eraser to get it looking like new. Thank you so much for the tip!
awesome to hear
Worked like a charm! Thanks for the tip.
thank you been desperately looking for a cure to a filthy shower floor, gonna try tonight.
OMG!!! This was amazing to watch the before and after results! I think you have just saved me from losing my deposit! Thank you!
You nasty ass!
Omg!! This worked. I tried the vinegar and baking soda and that did ok but this got it completely clean. So excited I have scrubbed and scrubbed for years
Great to hear you were able to get the shower floor clean.
Thanks for this tip, MrKistel. This was still a lot of work and scrubbing, but unlike other methods that are recommended all over the place, this one worked!
OMG... so happy to have found this video. I used the Dollar Tree version and let it sit for about an hour and it's finally clean. Thanks for sharing!
Great to hear you were able to clean the shower floor. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the timeline input
Hi Joe, I have found that a cream cleanser calls Barkeepers Friend works along with my steam cleaning machine and a foam scrubber like yours. your shower did come up looking good .
Can't wait to try this out!! I hate a dingy tub/shower.
I JUST tried this, IT TOTALLY WORKED!!! I was shocked. Thank you.
Awesome to hear the DIY trick helped you clean your shower floor.
Thanks for the Tip Joe... This worked amazing on my tub... Sprayed left on for 2 hours and scrubbed...
Great to hear it worked to clean your tub. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yes!!!!! I’m going to try this tomorrow. Thanks for posting!!!
I tried this and I’m pleased with the results. Thanks for sharing!
Great to hear!
I tried this on an enameled cast iron bathtub after watching a different youtube video. The person who posted said to make sure you use the blue can Easy Off and to use Mr. Clean magic erasers. I sprayed the tub and let it set for 15-20 minutes and then scrubbed up years of grime. Also, household vinegar works great on water stained shower doors. Spray it, let it sit for 20-30 minutes and use a straight edge razor to scrape off the soap scum. I'd recommend gloves and good ventilation on this one.
I used to use toilet cleaner, but this works much better. I did oven cleaner that sat for a few hours, with one of those drill scrubber attachments. Looks brand new
Thanks for sharing!
Works great!!! Thanks for the best tip ever👍👍👍👍
I'm usually skeptical of these supposedly incredible methods of cleaning. But, having tried many other methods before to clean the shower floor with no luck, I went ahead and gave it a try. It really did work. While my floor was not as bad as the one featured, it was bad. I followed the directions for oven cleaning on the can of Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner, covering the area and waiting a minimum of two hours. Using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, I rubbed the shower floor and rinsed. What a difference!. I didn't get it all off on the first try, probably not rubbing evenly, but doing it again a second time it now has that almost brand new look. This worked.
honestly this is the most helpful tip! wow it made my shower floor in my new apartment 1000% cleaner. actually looks like new!! Definitely want to wet the surface before spraying too. Requires much less elbow grease that way! thank you!
Happy to help!
Did it work on the sides of the apartment bathtub/shower for soap scum?
I tried this awhile back and it works well.
Wow!I've been going crazy trying to find a solution to clean my shower floor, your video was very helpful. Thanks!Mr.kistel🤗😘
So glad it was helpful!
I will have to try this method. Thanks for the tip.
It worked on my shower stall and glass. I bought three cans just in case and heavy duty scotchbrite pads. I went through about 1.5 cans. I sprayed it on left it for about a half hour, then scrubbed and rinsed. Then another coat same things and worked a little more elbow grease in and it was completely gone. It also works well on linoleum floor and =counter top stains.
+PersonalGeek glad it worked well for you. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Thanks for a great idea!! Going to do this today and can't wait to see my new shower.❤❤
I am going to try this.
Works amazingly well - thanks!
I can't wait to try this. My shower floor is nasty.
I'm watching this while my husband is sleeping about 10 feet away, so I've got the volume off. It was pretty self-explanatory from the video, but I have to just mention that the auto-generated subtitles on this video are hilarious. "I did some homework and internets and I heard some tips about using appear so I thought I'd give it a try and show yes results it's in the actress Nancy shower with all this glaxo in Canada love nothin season..."
HaHa, ya the auto generated text is just a hair off!
Skeptic --> BUT NOW A BELIEVER!! It's a miracle! BEST TIP EVER.
Great to hear the shower floor clean video was useful for you.
I am going to do this soon. Thanks for the reviews from everyone.
Best of luck with your shower floor cleaning.
Unbelievable! I left the easy off on for hours and every stain
was removed. Thanks for sharing this .
Fantastic!
It worked on fiberglass shower and floor beautifully
Came back to this video to comment that it did work! The only different thing I did was use the magic eraser to scrub the Easy Off fume free spray. Thank you so much!!!!! I moved into a rental and the tub was like that when I moved in.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience.
Thanks a lot I do residential cleaning And you know what I WORKED, And I used on the whower glass and I worked tooo. Thank you Thank you
+Consuelo Guevara Glad to hear it, thanks
It worked so well. I left it for about an hour!
I bought an older house with the crappy looking whitish bathroom. I will be using this thanks a lot
Works like a charm. Thanks
Tried it, it works great. Thanks
I used this method today on two showers. I couldn't get the dirt off of one of them with anything else, not even muriatic acid (fiberglass shower). This method worked wonderfully. I let the Easy Off cleaner work for an hour, then I scrubbed clean as with any tub and shower cleaner. They're spotless now. So glad I saw this!
Great to hear your shower floors are clean again. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@MrKistel I'm concerned that it will harm the finish of a fiberglass shower pan. Are you saying it is safe to use?
This is the 3rd life hack/ DIY video I found of a man cleaning a shower. I love how the stereotypes are being broken. That this is simply "a how to clean" video with out any pride or shame being thrown into it.
Thus trick worked beautifully! I wish I took before and after
Glad to hear it work well for you. Thanks for watching and the comment
Amazing, time and money saver. I used the Dollar tree brand. Very happy with the results.
Finally a solution to the problem I have had for years. I had tried even Comet cleaner without any luck. I sprayed it on just like said to do. The only problem I had was unexpected. My wife in her despiration to clean the stain had pour peroxide over the area. The gas coming off the Oven Cleaner and the Peroxide was dangerous and took my breath that I had to leave the room to breath.. Anyway. I left all it on over night to allow it to work and the gas from the peroxide vented out. Thanks again. I shared it to others on Facebook.
Thanks for this. You just saved me a lot of time and work.
Great to hear!
Thanks, worked really well!
Great tip, i will try at work for some very nasty showers at airport.
Amazing!!! I'm totally trying this.
Tyanne Hire Thanks, best of luck.
Wow I need to try this asap!
Thanks for the information.
Outstanding tip, thank you!!! Lysol did not work, 409 did not work, Ajax did not work, Foaming Kaboom with oxyclean did not work, foaming Zep did not work!
I was almost ready to throw down some baking soda, boil some towels, mix and microwave some vinegar and dish soap, and then use elbow grease on the scum!
I larded on the Easy-Off Oven Cleaner (Fume free, lemon scent, blue can, purchased at CVS), and let it sit for 2 hours, and it worked a TREAT! I wiped (not even scrubbed) the floor and the scum came right off! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
great to hear it was useful for you
Was ready to rip out the old one and install a new one. Then searched and found this video. Tried it on a small sample part under the drain piece to see if it would harm the plastic and found no problem. Then went for it with the oven cleaner as described. OMG- good as new.....
Glad to hear it worked for ya, great stuff.
I have tried everything but this. I hope it works.
Both the Easy off and hot water tricks for me! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
this works! I just sprayed a large amount of it onto my shower floor, let it sit overnight, started scrubbing this morning and about 90% of it comes off. my shower floor doesn't look brand new but if I just scrubbed harder and longer I could probably manage
+Foolkat101 Glad it worked out for ya. Thanks for watching and the comment.
+MrKistel YOU ARE A INGENIOUS GENIUS. So simple I don't know why I didn't think of it my self. I am now a subscriber.
Nice. Going to try it soon
I use the same technique, but scrub with a Wagner Power Paint Remover tool at the end. You wouldn't believe the results. Had a rental tub that wasn't cleaned for three years; looked like new.
interesting tip!
Awesome tip!!!!
This works!!!!! Omg!!! I tried it because I was going to put in a new shower floor anyways…. The best!!!!!!
And wonderful for the environment too.
Impressive! Thank you!
OK,, I just tried this. I waited 30 minutes and scrubbed the bottom of my shower tub. I was really amazed how the oven cleaner got the dark spots off. Yes it really works. You will be amazed!
glad it was helpful for you Anna
Thank You, I just did this and my tub is super clean, it took me about 30 minutes but I got the Job done my wife will be exited when she see's it clean... it was really nasty before. I hate soap scum. I recommended people to wipe and clean shower after you shower to prevent build up.
And use body wash..DON'T USE BAR SOAP!
Worked!!!! Thank you SOOO much!
I've tried this before it really does work wonderfully!
Wow! I have a nasty shower door with tons of hard water from previous tenants I tried vinegar, lemon, CLR, Mr. Clean magic eraser, nothing works! Will try this, wish me luck!
Griselda Garcia Hope it works for you. Good Luck
I smooth cheap Suave clarifing shampoo over the shower pan & bathtub, wait over night before rinsing. The key ingredient in Easy Off, Dawn & shampoo is the grease lifter. I also spray white vinegar to kill germs, the rinse again.
Ya I think the Soap Scum build-up on the shower floor is dissolved with de-greasing type chemicals.
I've been searching for a solution...this is so easy. Hope it works.
Best of luck! Thanks
It works! It really works!
Thank you very much Mr Kistel.
Thanks for watching and hope it was helpful
Thankyou so much this is what I have been looking for
Great to hear the video is helpful, thanks
Fantastic thanks
This worked for me also. I also added boiling water and poured it on the floor after allowing the oven cleaner to do it's thing for about 30 minutes. I have to say the boiling water did help.
+autumn1231 thanks for sharing the tip
I contest to this, one of my tenants had not cleaned his shower for what looked like the whole y year period he stayed in the apartment, after being scared of replacing the whole shower i thought id try the oven cleaner and it worked. just be careful not to breathe it in.
miracles do come true :)
can attest v contest?
Thank you. Works great. If you do it make sure the surface is dry before applying oven cleaner.
Thanks
Somebody else said make sure the surface is wet first. Hmmm, not sure what to do now.
Joe....it worked on my white shower. I always used bleach...but not anymore. This will be the new cleaner for my shower.
MrKistel you are a legend, my shower floor had immoveable stains but to replace it would have meant a full bathroom strip out, I tried your method and it looks like new again.
+350munro So glad you found this helpful! Thanks for the comment.
Brilliant, thank you. I tend to use soda crystal with vinegar but with non brand oven kitchen cleaner with cheap white vinegar really works, it creates a strong chemical and cheaper.
thanks for watching
Cannot wait to try. That is exactly my shower. Well ah actually my boyfriend’s shower and I spent hours on cleaning it one day then I said let’s tackle the floor. OMG I thought just an SOS Pad or some BarKeepers would work no problem. I was so deterred... like what is this etc. Never dealt with that kind of whatever stuff it was. He s a big guy and works a big guy dirty job so I m not putting it on him. Now Finally A Solution that Makes Sense. I m going to try ! ! ! And I m sure I ll get happy ..
Thanks, I think what happens is that over time layers of soap residue build up, trapping stains inside the layers. The soap scum is dissolved by the oven cleaner leaving the clean shower floor behind.
Ok, just tried this. AMAZING. I was prepared to spend 6 hours scrubbing like I have in the past and it still didn't get it white. I just took a damp cloth and wiped off. Great hack!
PS. I have a small , stand up fiberglass shower, so really hard to get to the sides in the past.....
great to hear it was helpful for you
Wow! Thanks! ♥️
starting to realize oven cleaner gets anythinggggg off! thanks for the vid!
Thanks for watching and the comment
just tried this out; works great ! awesome video :)
Glad it helped! Thanks Jazmin
Thanks, this worked amazingly well. Still a fee very light stains, but I am sure they will come off with the next cleaning.
I use the Blue can of Easy Off, let it sit and then use a Mr Clean magic sponge Works like a charm
