Content cop was great, not because I ever thought you were some moral hero, but because at least somebody was calling those guys on their crap. Content Cop was great and will be missed.
The majority of content cop videos were punching down or extreme overreaction (I.e Tana). The Keem video is cool but generally it was mean spirited and as Ian said he was also making mistakes
We all feel like that, but materially speaking that’s exactly what content cop was, and even if WE didn’t see that, that’s where it was coming from, straight from the horse.
Even if I'm absolutely appalled by almost all the people he did a Content Cop on, I don't believe that they deserved some of the shit they got from them.

Hell no, yall are blatantly accepting his apology for literally being racist. Him saying all the shit he was saying WAS FROM THE HEART not for content. No one says that type of shit on a joking level. & the fact you guys are calling this an improvement just shows how idiotic you guys are. There were times where I had to literally beat the shit out of privileged white boys who thought racial slurs were hilarious. On my mother’s life, I’ll forever be like that too. I’ve always believed idubbbz’s worst crime was making mid content and ever since the controversies, he doesn’t have to make the same type of content, but at least make it funny or interesting
I think Kickstarter and IndieGoGo actually started vetting their campaigns more so there isn't much to make content out of. And when there is it gets taken down immediately.
I see where you are coming from as a lot of the people he made content cops on were pretty shitty people; however, there is a difference between calling someone out and giving them what they deserve and directing millions of people towards them to ruin their life and subject them to nonstop harassment for years. I think that is what Ian is trying to say.
@playz2520 I feel like that's being a bit dramatic. They're influencers, they get hate every day. The hate they got probably spiked for a month or two (probably deservedly) then went back to normal, it's really not that deep.
@@playz2520 yeah - that's why he says he still doesn't like them, they just didn't deserve the cruelty and vitriol pointed at them as a result of the videos. I think that much is reflected in his callback to the boxing podcast as well.
I don't think he's apologizing for content cop, he's apologizing for the racial slurs he said in past videos if he's apologizing for content cop though, he shouldn't. all he does now is whine about criticism, the internet has become softer and so has he
I loved the absurdity of the old idubbbz videos. He did things that I, and most normal people would never have the guts to do or say, especially in public. That's what I think a lot of old fans appreciated from the old RUclips content. The outgrageousness and absurdity of it, not literal hate or an actual desire to call people n-words.
I’m kinda in that boat. It’s the fans who want him to keep being the racist insensitive edgy dude who justifies saying the slurs. I can understand why someone wouldn’t want to associate with that
that's true but the issue Ian is talking about are the people who DO do that stuff after watching his content or when he targeted that hate at specific people giving people more reason and a target to direct that harassment at.
Not according to all of his fan interactions where people casually just dropped the n word to him. The normal viewer can tell it’s a joke, but kids and the hardcore racists legitimately can’t differentiate the comedy of the video and appropriate behavior in public

I gues sin reality their stuff was not even that great to begin with, tho alot of their old stuff is nostalgic to many of us. In reality, it was very derivative of other internet personalities at the time (can anyone guess one in particular lol).
The problem is you guys think Filthy Frank is just who he is, even off-camera. It was a character he played solely on RUclips. It didn’t surround his whole life nor was it a core part of him. He’s always been more Joji than Frank.
To act as if there is no nuance to life or language or behaviour is just a pathetic attempt to mask inappropriate behaviour. The way I always describe it is that you might make a 9/11 joke between your friends, but everyone would agree that making one at the funeral of someone who died in 9/11 isn't an appropriate or nice thing to do. To accept that fact, is to accept that there is nuance to every situation depending on the people you're with, the words you're saying, the intention of the words etc.

But this seems more that he has grown up and stopped shitting on people in tasteless ways. I'm sure Ian would absolutely still shit on asian Jake Paul, he just wouldn't be racist about it and focus on the actual shitty parts more.
I think it's not like they don't deserv to be called out for their shitty behavior, it's more like the *way* he went about calling them out. It was aggressive, antagonistic, openly hate-filled, just sorta made him similar to the people he was criticizing and contributed to the negative culture rather than a calm, collected exposure of bad things people haven't answered for
He's not saying they don't deserve to get called out, it's more about how he went about it. He actively encouraged harassment and in a lot of cases that lead to threats of violence and racism.
@Caleb Rohn he was literally only racist because that's exactly what Ricegum wanted he wanted him to only roast him based on his race and it tells me you didn't understand that content cop. Ian said slurs to show him he didn't give a fuck and that the flaws Ian had with him weren't based on his race. He said them to "prove him right" so ricegum could say "look he called me the bad words see! He's racist!" But in all actuality if you listened to any other part of the video youd see the flaws with ricegums personality, content, and behavior we're what he was actually critiquing. Ian systematically took away Ricegums racial argument by giving it to him and immediately throwing it to the side.

When it comes to the content cops, I'll admit there has been some "over the top" moments. But I think the reason people enjoyed it so much was the fact that a chunk of what he was saying was true about those people despite him being just as bad as they were at the time. (Not all of them btw)
I think the value in the Content Cops was that he was willing to stoop down to the same level of childish vitriol as his subjects, in essence to give them a taste of their own nasty medicine. In the case of Tana, it's something that was probably justified in 2017, but as the circumstances have vastly cooled off in the 6 years since, the level of vitriol in that Content Cop remains just the same to the point that it's now very out of place in 2023. In other words, in their moment I think each Content Cop was warranted and deserved, and this was the exact reception that they got, but as time has passed, it's difficult to remember that they're each a product of a very specific point in time. Watching the Tana Content Cop in 2023 gives you a very outdated perception of both Ian and Tana, but a perception that was probably spot on when the video came out. Hit pieces can't remain current, and this clashed with the Content Cop format.
I hope that you continue doing your cool long form documentaries. Those kind of perfectly hit the mark between absurdity and genuine, heartfelt compassion for their subject.

Maturing.. he was pushing 27, 28 when making those content cop videos. It's not some teenager or even 22 year old that we're talking about here. I can't tell you how often I randomly think of something stupid I did and get completely incapacitated by cringe. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have those feelings while also having an audience in the millions. It's hard enough to grow and learn who you are after adolescence without having to do it in front of an audience, especially when half that audience is saying "fuck you don't change." Just want to say I respect the hell out of you for this. It's hard enough to look in the mirror and recognize you need to change, can't even imagine doing it with a spotlight on you.

That's what relationships do to people. Beware!
I think that’s just part of growing as a person. If you’re a man, shit, your brain isn’t done developing until your mid twenties. The bit of your brain that creates empathy isn’t fully developed until sometimes years after you’re considered a legal adult. We leave our hometown, we meet people from different countries, ethnicities, races, cultures etc and they all make a mark on us. Understanding our past actions and changing how we behave moving forward is what defines us.

When it comes to the content cops, I'll admit there has been some "over the top" moments. But I think the reason people enjoyed it so much was the fact that a chunk of what he was saying was true about those people despite him being just as bad as they were at the time. (Not all of them btw)
He’s too himself too serious
interestingly, he has gone from the ironic moral grandstander (content cop) to the unironic moral grandstander (this video)
It’s called growing up lol

Maturing.. he was pushing 27, 28 when making those content cop videos. It's not some teenager or even 22 year old that we're talking about here.
