Thank you for the excellent video. I am going through this issue for the second time on the E70. I found a Bosch test manual online and following that used a high voltage ohmmeter to test the short to earth revealing a low resistance path to ground. the injectors test ok using a standard multimeter - 180kOhm. but the piezo crystal breaks down at the higher working voltage. perhaps when the engine heats up the failure occurs more easily - an easier electrical path. using high voltage ohmmeter connect positive to positive pin on injector and the negative clipped to the injector body less than 10 mega ohms is a fail. from memory I tested all 6 and most were reading in the Giga ohms and the bad one was down at 1 mega ohm so was an obvious fail
I have the same problem with my 2009 e70 x5. My mechanic said it's a common issue, usually injector 5 and 6. He said installing a water separation filter will lengthen the life of the injector because when there is always small amounts of water in the diesel tanks and when it over heats the injector for a short time and over time will damage the injector. It's a cheap installation and will give longer life to the injector
Many times the upper engine compartment tray below the windshield cracks and when it rains it funnels water right onto the area where injector 5/6 are and will damage the injector(s) over time.
the same problem here in 335D 2007 e90, I've changed the injectors many times and the problem comes after a week or a month, the ecu has been checked, the wiring harness has been checked, the glow plugs have been changed, but the problem always comes up... maybe next time I'll try it myself by changing the fuel filter.
Water drips on injector electrical and shorts the coil out. Simple, water and electrical do not mix hence the problem. If you went back to fuse block and ohm tested the wires you will get a low ohms reading hence direct short. Your bench test shop tested injector should be fired they did not test the coil on injector after it was warmed up the coil would have shown it was breaking down.
If you don't mind me asking who do you usually use for injector service? I have an 02 that sat for a few years but is very low miles and it runs and sounds a little bit rough at idle but perfect everywhere else when driven, I was thinking about just getting all the Piezo injectors reconditioned, Any advice?

I have this problem too - 2007 X5 E70. random cutting out, seems to idle ok but cut out when on load ie put in drive. also number 5 cylinder injector fault. it's now replaced and the car runs, but it is infuriating that it won't just run on 5 cylinders, but cuts out! also, do i need to replace the other 5 injectors to be sure? from comments below it does make sense that the (broken) plastic channel above has allowed water to seep in and drip onto number 5 injector...
Same symptoms and behaviour with mine (only when hot, can run sevreal miles or stall 5 times in a row). But the errors I got are different, short circuit on plus for all injectors (i.e. : error code 4487 for cylinder 2). How to identify wich cylinder could be the root cause? I plan to change the cables (allready ordered) but this video makes me doubt. For sure water falls on the engine bloc, the foam under the cover is always humid. I assume injectors 5 and/or 6 should be the culprits. How to test tejem on my side? I am only equiped with a standard ohm meter.

Good video. I have the same problem with X6 Diesel 2008. But i got P0205 code. When the engine stalling and stopping I see the fuel pump in the tank didn’t work in the same time. There is a link ? Or this is the cause?
I think because 5 and 6 are the first injectors to receive the fuel ⛽ and any water will go through them 2 injectors first they are the ones to most commonly fail. My friend has the same issue with his 3.0 Nissan patrol common rail. The cause is from water in the diesel, removing that will give more life for the engine

You will have issues again if you dont replace the plastics underneathyour windscreen that lay on that aluminium bars, they keep water from coming down on your injectors
I have a 2015 328d with the four cylinder turbo diesel. The car seems fine and runs fine but the check engine light comes on about once per oil change and the code is always the same, something about the injectors learning being maxed out. Typically check engine light comes on when cars driven hard for a bit. Typical fix is just to throw a bottle of diesel kleen through it and it goes away for another 4-5000 miles. I cannot recreate the issue after clearing the code. Its tempermental. But any help in locating the source of this issue would be great. The car has 96,000 miles on and has been great since 62,000 miles. This is the only issue i've had so far.
Hello, do you know what volt I should read on the high side of each injector connector when egnition is on ? not running. I have two ECUs in bmw 745d slave read 0.17 volt .master 0.06 on the ECUs. the computer says it’s dde slave injector activation on cylinder 2-3-5-8 that doesn’t activate but in my conclusion viewing the engine from driving position the cylinder 2-3-5-8 is coming from master voltage with 0.06 etc volt. Pretty confusing:(
Hi Great video had exactly same fault on my audi A8 Engine cuts completely giving no power steering and no servo on brakes VERY DANGEROUS IF ON MOTORWAY The ecu shuts down if it detects a short circuit in the injector and will not run If you can identify the injector and disconnect the plug connection the ecu will run minus that cylinder. a get you home tip

Easy way to check is the resistance on the injector. Should be 180kohms +- 10. My injector 5 came up as 70kohms

ty - having the same issue. issue present when engine is warm. while it is cold - works as supposed and no faults.
You didn’t say how you solved the problem of the injector and fault code stalling the engine.
Did you just delete code and all was well?
