Not some back yard hobbyist, Chris has proven this approach on hundreds of acres of trees among other places. What a blessing that he's not only a good practicing farmer/scientist but a clear teacher! This is super beneficial instruction for restoring healthy soil.

I know I'm late to the party here but wanted to let you know that you totally have me hooked on Korean natural farming after watching this video. Very well put together. I work with herbs, formulating natural products for human use, so this is fascinating stuff for me. Really well put together video, very complete detailed info without wasting unnecessary time. Bloody great job. Ill be making these herbal concoctions for my garden this year. Really psyched that this can also be used as medicine! Huge bonus!

Hi there, this is just my instinct; but I feel that any extraction that is a brown sugar based extract (like FPJ, FFJ) the dilution is 1:500.
While if the extraction is alcohol base (like OHN) then the dilution is 1:1000 (with a halving of that every 3 years, specifically for OHN).
The dilution extraction for a vinegar based (WCA/P) is also 1:1000 like that of OHN. Althiugh I’m unsure if the halving applies to WCA/P as well.
In my head, extracts that has “alcoholic composition” or “mineral composition” will have a dilution of 1:1000 and 1:500 to the other inputs.

    • @kobyguye

Good general rule. However all the inputs have precise combinations and order to them...alá the nutrient cycle.

Hi Chris, we've spoken briefly on instagram and I want to let you know how thankful and incredibly grateful I am you decide to let us all in on the wisdom. I'm planning to go to the certification classes in Idaho, and look forward to meeting in person. Like a lot of other folks, I'm wondering where you sourced the dry ingredients as my concern is the ones I have used and will be extracting for the first time tomorrow may be a little difficult and may not be..."natural..." they seem very light, whispy/airy/stringy, as opposed to the thick chunks seen here. Thanks for your time and I hope you have/had a great harvest :)

Chris, these videos are great. if i may suggest a few tips. It would be great to have more follow up videos on how/when and where to apply these serums. For instances, the LAB video, once the fermentation process is done and you separate the curds, can we use it immediately as soil drench/foliar feed, do we have to add molasses and store it for months? Why add molasses? How do you apply all of these natural farming methods to your farm? Thank you for being a great teacher!

Thank you again sir.. This mix gives me a feeling this stuff could be potentially the go to remedy for everything on the farm.. Colds, flu, animal water tonic... the other preparations admixture, the favorite hopping used in beer... you name it.. I got so excited waiting for payday.. I started making the garlic.. ginger.. I used my residual SAAZ hop from my first beer brew..., some dried SanPedro powder, Some heads of bud mixed with rosemary, sage and feverfew, and for some bizarre reason I had a 50g packet of Astragalus root.. strange coincidence.. So I had beer and everything else that could even help with the Corona virus.. Now I just have to register myself as a monastary and brew my own "Plaag Bier"... hehe...

Loving it, appreciate the work you share, and do. I've only recently been hipped to KNF, and it just makes sense. It's a lot of concepts I had been fumbling about, with extracting plant material as a food source, but I never really understood the proper way to do so. Anyway, thanks again for the info, I am sharing it as much as I can, whoever will listen, or shows the slightest bit of interest. Some think I am crazy, but thats ok.Where is the best way to get these dry ingredients? Would love to give it a go. I have don FPJ, JMS, WCA, and always have a nice stash of LABS around. Good information mate. I use mugwort in the UK also, I found angelica to be a very unpalatable taste for myself. GMMT - ginger, mugwort, mango (FPJ) and turmeric works to keep cold and flu at bay and tastes great - not true OHN, but it's all natural! Keep them videos coming. Respect from the UK.

Best instructionall on OHN I've seen! I'm all over this. Looking forward to hearing you talk more about this. When I went to the Asian grocery store near my house, all of the dried herbs were from China and fumigated with sulfites/sulfur dioxide. I put everything back on the shelf and ordered online from Mountain Rose Herbs where there's OG and untreated. Assuming these preservatives are not helpful during the fermentation process. What do you think?

    • @biomei.solutions

+Beezlz thanks for encouragement! In my experience agricultural chemicals definitely have a negative effect on healthy microbial activity. We order our herbs from a natural source as well. Have fun with the process! Let me know if you have questions.

I made OHN!!!! Two things. I slacked on the mixing of the containers every day. Shame shame!! Also, when I was about to do extraction 4 I decided to check if it was actually my last one(because calendars are overrated am I right?) I duplicated the process with the same sized jars filled with water to test where I would end up if it was my final..what I found out was my extraction #4 was actually my last extraction. I used jars 1:2 in size so I just wanted to let you guys know to double check it is your second to last extraction because I don't know what I would've done if I had gotten to my last extraction and couldn't fit it into my jar (I mean I would've figured something out but doing it right counts for a lot to me haha). Between you and Drake, I have started my first Fermented Plant Juice, made with Mugwort. I have a patch in an old garden bed which needs to be turned to get the Mugwort going again for next year. Mugwort is used to improve respiration and helps repair lung tissue, Drake says it also pulls toxins out of bone, so helping plants breath and have good structure sound good to me. It's my first FPJ because I don't have all the ingredients for the OHN yet, but I'm close. I also plan to make FPJ out of a few wild plants here (Bush Clover, Sericea Lespedeza), that seem to be tolerating the growing conditions and this crazy drought. I can only assume they must have very deep roots which (I'm hoping) will translate into stronger roots in my vegetable plants and trees. I have heavy clay soil with lots of sharp rocks. The bush clover is being investigated for use as a natural treatment for parasites and pathogens for goats and sheep in a pellitized form. I do worry though that it might mess with the biology of my other inputs when I get further into KNF.

    • @davidka8345
      @davidka8345 2 года назад +1

You can just use, what you have. CGNF India recommends to use just cinnamom, ginger and garlic for the OHN. As it takes a while, you have time to figure out how to get the other ingredients and you still have the option to do a second batch with the remaining ingredients.
And yes, FPJ is great stuff. I stumbled across the KNF ammendments this spring and fermented many different FPJs. LAB is also a powerful KNF ammendment and easy to make.

Hey Chris, killer videos on IMO/OHN, its been a real blast watching and learning from your videos. Quick question however, I'm wondering if it would be beneficial in anyway to decrease the size of the dry ingredients. For example, would grinding (or at least crushing) these ingredients help extract more of the anti-pathogenic properties we are looking for? Maybe even decrease extraction time?
    thanks a lot!

    • @biomei.solutions
      @biomei.solutions  8 лет назад +8

+Zipper Trauma I am stoked that these are helping you! Grow food and share the knowledge:) There is an important difference between what properties I could 'mash' or 'crush' out of a plant and those that are leached out through the break down of cell walls by the minor alcohols that are produced in the fermentation process. So yes you could make the pieces smaller, and I'm sure that wouldn't hurt at all. I do not think however that, that would necessarily bring you to a better or faster process... Try and adapt as you like though! :) I recommend doing it this way once and then making your second an experiment, just so you have a personal reference point to measure success. 👍🏽 Enjoy the process!!

Your instructions were very helpful. I had to rewatch it several times to get all the details.
As it is a lot of work, I decided to do it in two steps and simplify the ingredients to three for each batch:
I started as recommended by CGNF India with (Ceylon) cinnamom, ginger and garlic. I just need three jars for extraction and if it goes well, I do a second batch with the remaining ingredients. Meanwhile I have time to get the more difficult ingredients.
Also a big help was the Shaping Fire podcast episode where Chris explains to the host all the details to OHN.

Thank you so much for the information, video was wonderfully put together. I had a question as to what kind of cinnamon was used, what if I can only access cassia and can't get zeylanicum/ Ceylon? I hear Ceylon has better health benefits compared to cassia for humans but I wanted to confirm which one you used or if it really even made a difference. Thanks again for your work and for sharing this amazing content

    Thanks for the detailed video..
I had few questions if you could answer.
Can we slow grind all the material dry and wet, to make a coarse powder or paste and then mix with sugar?
Can we skip angelica as it is hard to find in our are or if there is any substitute that we can use?
Are there other herbs that can be added to current list, like we have basil abundant here, or anything else you are aware has good results?
And last you said we need to fill our jars 10 percentage with material. Since you just crushed it I am sure each material weight that went into jar will be different, can that process be bases on weights? X amount of herb and y amount of sugar with appropriate jar to leave space for alcohol?

Tushar Kathuria I watched this video a few times myself and I think he said you can use any ani pathogenic herbs I’m still not shur why he used twice the amount of Angelica as the other two ingredients. I would go online and look up ani pathogenic herbs as well as substitutes for angelica . I have lots of golden rod where I live so I may use some of that I used pau d’ Acro in place of angelica.

Can you just combine them all when complete for easier storage and use? Thanks for sharing the info. Im new to this and just started a LAB, IMO1 and FFJ.

so each ingredient has its own final extraction bottle? When you want to extract the Cinnamon, do you have a plastic bottle just for cinnamon? same thing for Ginger and the other ingredients? They each have their own final extraction plastic bottle? When you're ready to make the OHN you use some of each final extraction bottle in a new bottle for your final product, a mixture of each of the individual extractions?

hi chris, great video, like the others,
    one thing:
when reconstituting dried herb, isn' t it by weight about 20% dried herb and 80% water?
like in fresh herb there is about 20% material and 80% water.
what that would look like is a jar packed with dried herb and added water.
    thanks, jurgen

    Hey Chris.
Thanks for the awesome video. I've just watched for the third time and I'm about to make OHN myself. I have a small issue that I can't get Angelica or licorice locally. I've ordered some that might take another two weeks together to me. On going though, I'm not sure it's feasible to keep shipping the stuff 5000 miles to make it in the future. I live in a culture that uses it's own medicinal herbs and wondered what I might look for to substitute for licorice root and angelica root. To add to the problem, I don't have binomials names of the local roots and barks so I wondered if I could try to work out what's best to try based on what they are traditionally used for. Can you give any advice on how to go forward?
    Thanks,
    Bill

+William Tolbert I am glad the videos are helping you. You are not alone with this problem... I would recommend you make it with the ingredients that you can get, most of the natural farming community in India do this with a lot of success. So you would have a three part OHN. Mix equal parts for the year and store the rest separately. Enjoy the process man :)
