    I totally agree. I had gotten so much flack when I chose the 24-70mm f/2.8 when I was building up my lenses. 12 lenses later and the 24-70mm is still my most often used lens. It hits the spot so many times on so many different shoots!

      It depends on what u mainly shoot. But usually start with 24-70 for most versatility, 16-35 for landscapes/vlogging and 70-200 for nicest portraits and some distant landscape. Ultimately, this holy trinity will be able to cover most facets of photography minus extreme wildlife. And if you fancy some more bokeh shots, 50mm, 80mm, and 100 for macro.

    HI!!! I have watched so many different video's for photography here on RUclips. I want you to know that hands down YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!! I (a hobbiest) can understand EVERYTHING you are trying to get across in an entertaining and educational way. You don't have nearly the likes on each of your video's you should. I am soooo critical (I guess in life) and your talents for teaching, entertaining and amazing photography in my opinion are a 10/10!!!! I will always come here to your channel first from now on to find what it is I want to learn and I will hold all others to the bar you have set for education on You Tube. Bravo, keep doing what you are doing. You truly are a pro!!! Looking forward to watching all your videos (over time lol). Thank You!!!!

  • @EverydayFamilyFL
    @EverydayFamilyFL 4 года назад +9

    And for APS-C shooters like me and our channel, the "kit" lens is usually this focal length equivalent. 18-55 gives you this range, and this versatility. While not having the F stop, or speed, of the 2.8, your kit lens will give you this range of shots. So don't sleep on your kit lens, especially for Fuji. Theirs is probably the best. Thanks David, see ya next week!!

    Excellent tip. It is huge to move from the kit lens, usually an f4, to the 24-70 f2.8. For an walk around lens this is my favorite lens. The Nikon Z mount lens is super sharp and has a ton of range. Primes are the great for their singular mission they lack the versatility of a zoom. A zoom like this is a great option if you have only one lens in your kit.

    I’d love to see a lens buying timeline... I could definitely use some advice. I want to switch to full frame really soon, and I’m not sure which would be the right first lens. I’m definitely more of a landscape/outdoor photographer. My initial thought would be the 16-35 f4 or the 24-105 f4. It feels like the 24-105 would be more versatile, but the 16-35 seems pretty essential for what I’m trying to do. Love your channel man 🤙

    I have many lenses, but not the 24-70mm (so far) as I don't take many shots within that range, being a wildlife/landscape photographer. I'll use my 16-35mm or 70-200mm F/2.8 'if' needed, but those lenses are rarely used either, as I need more reach. I use my tripod 90 % of the time, and I'll be sticking with my full frame DSLR for many years to come, as having a 'light' camera isn't necessary, and I've yet to see huge differences in image quality if one makes the necessary choices in camera settings. Yes, for close up shots for portrait or street, the 24-70 is a great lens. I'm hoping to try some astrophotography as well, of which some have tried the 24mm of that lens, but 'wider' is probably better, as well as getting lower than the F2.8mm, but it IS possible of course.

  • @dubbeljubobby

    Thanks David! From someone who hasn’t pulled the trigger on a nice DSLR yet, it is very helpful. Mostly use action’s and small point and shoot 📸 . I know, I know. I get asked a lot but it’s a big commitment (deeper issues there 😂). Seriously though. I ride everywhere and “space” is a premium. Shoot (pun intended) I have a backpack full with just this gear, then add a decent DSLR, Lenses and well, you know where I’m going. This is very helpful because if I can narrow it down to one.... Let’s just say this is why I need bikes with cases, because I haven’t figured out how to ride with two backpacks. 🤪 I’m thankful for quick tip Tuesday’s, shoot I’d like to see “long tip Friday’s”, wait that didn’t sound right. “In depth tip Friday’s” there we go. 🤦‍♂️
    Stay well my friend. 🤙🏼

      I have a GoPro 8 and I like how it works as a vlogging camera. The media media mod allows you to hook up a mic for better sound. The stabilization via hypersmooth makes things look real steady. The GoPro is also really light and you can easily carry it on one of their grips. I bought the GoPro gear early this year and then I boight a Nikon Z50 this summer. The Nikon Z50 definitely looks better but is a much bigger pain in the ass to deal with when walking around, the GoPro is light and easy to stash and you don't feel vulnerable with it.

    David, good video. I recently bought a Nikon Z50, which I'm not too happy with for video. It came with a kit lens like f3.5/5 and I forget the other numbers. I'm bad with settings, but I know this lens is not good in low light and it does not really have an option to blur a background with any ease. I would like to get a new lens for RUclips DIY videos, some vlogging and run and gun style. I would appreciate any of your expertise. Thank you 👍👊

    Um. Look at the sigma 17-70 2.8 with macro and VR. Yes it's an asp-c lens. But it covers alot. It's my main goto that's on my stills camera 90% of the time. For travel when I can only have one - an 18-200 is also a good choice. A little soft and there are two different versions starting at F3.5 or 4.6. But as a street photographer, all inclusive travel lens, etc. It gets the job done.

    No 24-105/f4? For me, 70mm is just a little too short on too many occasions. The 24-105/f4 saves a ton of money over a 24-70/f2.8, gets me the extra range I need, and I usually don't miss the wider aperture of an f2.8 lens.

    If only one lens, Tamron 18-400mm is gonna cover everything you possibly can need with the exception of ultra wide, which your pissy smartphone can deal with since ultra wide is never about quality but rather the FOV you can get.
    Its surprisingly capable optically 50 to 200mm with the 18 to 50 being average and 200 to 400 are pretty respectable.
    Its still sharper then a Canon 24-105mm F4 which is in itself shocking.
