  • The 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule features an inaugural visit to Iowa Speedway, a change on where the regular season concludes, two changes to the championship playoffs, no dirt race, a return to the oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a new location for its Easter Sunday race, according to a copy of the schedule obtained by The Athletic on Wednesday.
    theathletic.com/4923195/2023/...
Notable changes to the 36-race points (plus two exhibitions) schedule includes:
The season begins with the Busch Light Clash (not a points race) from the L.A. Coliseum on Feb. 4. A NASCAR Mexico series race opens the weekend - a first in NASCAR history.
Richmond Raceway’s annual spring race will occur on the evening of Easter Sunday, shifting into the holiday date Bristol’s dirt race occupied for the past three years.
Bristol Motor Speedway’s spring race reverts back to being held on concrete after a three-year experiment on dirt.
NASCAR’s All-Star race returns to North Wilkesboro Speedway May 19.
The addition of Iowa Speedway, a popular short track about 35 miles east of Des Moines. NASCAR officially announced the June 16 race at a press conference Tuesday that included Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds.
The regular season will resume in Chicago on July 7.
A return to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval after three years on IMS’ road course July 21.
The regular season will conclude at Darlington on Sept. 1, as Daytona International Speedway will be the penultimate of the regular season on Aug. 24. Playoffs begin Sept 8 at Atlanta.
Watkins Glen International’s lone date and one of Atlanta Motor Speedway’s two dates shifting into the playoffs. The addition of Watkins Glen makes for two road course races during the playoffs, while Atlanta adds a second superspeedway.
NASCAR will take a two-week break to accommodate NBC Sports, its second-half television rights holder that next year is also broadcasting the Summer Olympics.
Texas Motor Speedway is no longer hosting a playoff race for the first time since 2004 with its single date moving to the spring.
Kansas Speedway’s playoff race moves from the middle race in Round 1 to the opening race in Round 2.
The NASCAR championship will be hosted from Phoenix on Nov. 10.

Well that we get for NBC broadcasting the NASCAR and Olympics at the same time. I have the issue with killing the NASCAR schedule thanks to the Olympics. Thanks NBC. For killing the NASCAR fan base here.

I'm kind of surprise they decided to stay with Charlotte Roval for 2024 and I probably know why, because of they couldn't get Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in this year and the only way Charlotte Oval would've came if Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would've been on the schedule. So as a result and maybe Nascar might want to limit the Cup Road Course to 5 to 6 to me. Another thing I'm looking at keeping Sonoma in June, maybe the city didn't want Sonoma to be in February.

I do hate that Daytona is no longer the season finale, it was definitely producing some of the craziest best races of the season

    Here are my thoughts.
Awesome that the Mexico Series is gonna be hosted alongside the Clash in LA.
Personally not the biggest fan of back to back SS races to open the season. Would’ve rather moved Phoenix to Race 2, Sonoma to Race 4, Atlanta Race 5, Bristol Race 11, Dover Race 16.
Bristol in March again should be interesting. Personally wish they kept the dirt as I think that racing is much more entertaining than the current short track package.
Richmond on Easter is an odd choice. I think Wilkesboro should’ve been the Easter race. Give the All Star Race to Charlotte again and cut Richmond.
Thank god Texas is out of the playoffs. Should’ve put it at race 5 though so it could be with COTA but I’m glad it’s not a playoff race any longer.
Good to see Iowa on the schedule at long last, but as a Canadian I’m sad Montreal isn’t happening next year. Hopeful for 2025 though.
New Hampshire in June? Odd. I’d have moved Michigan or Pocono up instead but sure.
Indy is on my birthday weekend so that should be awesome! Birthday and Xfinity on the 20th, and Cup on the 21st! (21st is actually my parents’ anniversary)
Daytona the second to last race of the regular season is a little disappointing, but I’m guessing NASCAR was in a tight spot. Darlington as the Reg Season Finale should be awesome and maybe gives the race a little more meaning.
Atlanta, Watkins Glen and Bristol in Round 1? Talk about chaos. I’m here for it. I’d love more traditional races in the playoffs but I’m not gonna complain about chaos.
Mixed on keeping the Charlotte Roval. Loved every race with the Gen 6 but last year’s was the first dull race at the track. I’d move it back to the oval until the package is improved, but I guess NASCAR had to make that call to avoid delaying the schedule any longer without seeing if the racing was gonna get better.
    Overall, solid schedule. 8/10.

The Winter Olympics have never been a problem for the Daytona 500 because that's done with FOX, not NBC.

NBC had Olympic coverage in 2002 and 2006 when they also had Daytona 500 coverage

Not a fan at all of two Super speedways (can’t stand them period) in the playoffs and two road courses. Bring back the Oval for Charlotte. This car is running great on intermediate tracks. Two week break sucks for sure.

Yeah. It’s crazy how this is the first car in a long time that fixed intermediate racing, but of course short track and road courses become boring as soon as they started adding those to the schedule lol

@@JakeSimRacing agreed. COTA seems cool because it’s so wide but all the others seem so tight and no passing on the road courses it seems.
