Carl Weathers, who starred as Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky films and appeared in Predator, The Mandalorian, Happy Gilmore, Action Jackson and dozens of other films and TV shows, died today, his family announced. He was 76.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers,” his family said in a statement. “He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. It's hard to lose a man like Carl because you get so used to him just being there, putting his hand up in an always fantastic way and letting you know, "hey man, I'm still in it and doing it VERY well". For my generation, when you saw Carl make his entrance onto the screen, you KNEW you were in for a great ride, a good time, and a sense of style mixed with a fantastic sense of humor.
I can only imagine how his family and longtime friends are feeling right now but for what it's worth, I'm with you. It's a loss, it hurts, and a soul not replaced.
