    Simple songs of love. No need for cursing, gangsta rap, hate, race baiting, or political BS. It was great while it lasted. Now its selfishness, and the entitlement generation. Everyone's into what have you got for me, the latest I phone, and greed is the norm. Our leaders sell out to the highest bidder, and they care little about the people who trusted them to do the right thing, and put them in power. Good manners, respect, and helping one another is gone as well.

      Lots going on here. The United States has had cheap money for far too long and now an entire generation of folks who simply believe they're entitled to live in a nation where neither money nor education nor even themselves have value of any kind. We have a cure but implementing it will be *very* painful. A brutal recession is coming.

    Hey, willbrassfield, I turned 65 in January, and I have never, ever tired of this music. I was in JHS and HS when so much of this stuff came out, and it's lived with me ever since. As much as I love the British Invasion-era music and much of the stuff from the 80's, doo-wop as a genre will always be my favorite.

    I have been listening to this song LOTS, after discovering it on Rhapsody. I truly feel something deep, listening to it. Captures the excitement of being young and having a crush on somebody. Tipping the light fantastic! It is upbeat, with beautiful harmony. Very simple. Still I don't know why it haunts me. I can understand The Flamgo's being exotic & a portal to deep emotions, but this tune also does the same thing. Thanks for posting!

    Doo-wop was one of the best kinds of popular music. I remember this song from early high school in Lancaster, PA. I haven't heard it for decades, and it still brings back that period in a flash -- top-40 AM radio, record hops, and allthat went with it. You just can't beat it. It's the best by far.

    The Velvets were Odessa, Texas music students of Virgil Johnson when they cut this track with Virgil singing lead in 1961. Roy Orbison got them their record deal with the Monument label and the result was this July release which charted for nine weeks. Their other classic -- which incredibly never reached the national charts -- was "That Lucky Old Sun."

    Fantastic record. I "borrowed" the 45 I have from the local radio station some 30 plus years ago. I never returned it. As far as the "doo-wop" orgins are concerned, my vote goes to the Five Satins. They were at least two years before the Velvets. There are others, but they were never heard down here in North Central Fla. At least, not by me. Thanks for the forum.

    And tunesmith09, record companies were run by "Record People" . . . those who cared about the music they put out & not just the "Bottom Line" . . . how many copies could an artist sell. This is why YOU TUBE is so vital to keeping this kind of music alive, introducing it to younger generations.
    I have just purchased a turntable that allows me to convert my vinyl to CD's & download to my computer. I plan on posting some of my "lost gems" from the '50's & '60's.

    Sometimes America amazes me! Doo wop was the beginning of an incredible era in music. It was fresh and liberal in it's outlook. We wanted everyone to take part. Now we bicker and argue, instead of taking time out to help and be kind to others. What happened?

    • @timliddell908
      @timliddell908 10 лет назад +10

      Great comment, Bob. Part of "what happened" is many people became greedy and adopted denial and poor responsibility as a life style.

    • @bobmurphy8091
      @bobmurphy8091 10 лет назад +8

      Tim Liddell Thanks for the thumbs up Tim. Yeah maybe greed, denial and other things play a part. As for "poor responsibility"...well that's hard to define. If you want someone to build something, you have to give them the tools. No one wants to reduce the police, or the fire department, or other services they consider neccessary for life. BUT, if they think not educating the young, is a marginal thing, they are WRONG!
      Funny, I never see politicians saying, "we have to cut back""so cut my salary"! It's always services like healthcare, senior care, education, medicare, social security. BUT no never ever look at my salary, whether it's a mayor, governor, congressman, or senator! Now that's greed!

    • @bobmurphy8091
      @bobmurphy8091 9 лет назад +2

      Bob Murphy "Income inequality"...gee, the universe, of politicians now see this like a cancer spreading over the land! Both republicans and democrats see this as a driving issue! HUH???? This has been going on since Nixon!!!!!PLEASE STOP...the Potomac 2 step!!!! A matter of seeing what is "now" or happening....these freakin people created this...they passed laws to abet it....NOW they want to denounce it???? Let's stop the BS....send them home and elect someone who cares...frankly I don't care if they are democrat, republican, independent, or a purple people eater....just get someone who eschews money, from those who don't give a shit about you and me!!!!!!!!!!!

    I was lucky enough to have lived through the days of the doo-wop and you are right, it was so exciting to turn on the radio and listen to all those great songs. I remember when I was in high school and we all went to see "Black Board Jungle". When Bill Haley played "Rock Around The Clock", everyone started dancing in the aisles. This was truly the start of rock and roll. I was also there when the Shields were rehearsing "You Cheated" and then a week later they were playing it on the radio!!

    Thank you M1Garand...long lost song for me. Remember grooving to this tune when all our cousins would get together and listen / dance to a reel to reel tape recorder....probably in summer of 1958. Only part of the song was recorded...now I have it all. Doo wop at its best. Thanks again!!

    For those of you who long to hear this music, google KZQZ am 1430. Although it's a local am station (St. Louis) that plays top 40 from the early 50's to early 70's, they have live streaming. I hear tunes there I haven't heard in decades, plus Frank, Dino, Rosemary, and the like. Plus Country crossovers, R&B and R&R from that era. Can't beat it!

    Ease up boys.I was there in those great years and it's just a simple fact,things were so much better.Nothing to do with 'politics',that you can just imagine along with a young,raw Elvis,a talent like Ricky and the wonder of a Fabian.Just the way it was,and I wish I could get reborn also,and start all over again in 1946.Just better by a million miles.
