Shooo JL, not only did I grow up eating tomato sandwiches (mayo, salt, pepper) our neighbors with gardens had such an abundance of tomatoes we'd eat them just sliced as well with (m, s, p) or salad dressing. The summers would be so hot and humid in VA that a lot of times the stove wasn't used for dinner. And you'd hope there was some left over bacon from breakfast for an infamous BLT! Lord Have Mercy!! By the way, the quality of the bread is everything. Word! Thanks for sharing.

JL Jupiter- As a lad who grew up in urban Philadelphia, we affectionatly referred to those succulent cheesesteaks and hoagies as " those jawns." Well......those jawns look fresh, delicious, and quality. As you asserted: the quality of the rollsl are vital for the cheesesteaks and hoagies. The softness and firmness of the rolls give the sandwiches substance and taste. Looks like " a game changer" JL Jupiter! Lastly- my favorite waterice is lemon and cherry from Ritas!😅

I've done a tomato melt/grilled cheese with fresh tomatoes from the garden. Little oil/basil. So refreshing.

Beautiful bread.... I'll forever be in love with the Italian style sandwich, simply the best, imo. The cured meats, the oil and vinegar, the oregano, priceless, I'm not a hater of mayo on an Italian sandwich, strike me down, it adds a lil something, it does.
This place looks really great and obviously it has plenty of traffic, Amen to that.

DC girl here but born and raised in Western New York; I do miss eating a wonderful, big delicious hoagie but blessed to be 2 hours from Philly were I know I can get one.

Changes in bread from 1 area to another are because of the different water supplies and how they affect the results we feel, see and taste. 👍🏻

Yooooo, I haven't been subscribed to your channel very long. But, here in Chicago, there's a sammich called a gym shoe, MANNNNNNNNN!
It's usually made with corned beef, gyro and roast beef, if I'm not mistaken, primarily. I think some spots add italian beef with 2 of the other meats. For the most part it's usually consisting of 3 meats
And they add onions, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and the cucumber sauce. I usually get my bread toasted.
I'ma personal assistant to an older brother that lost his vision. I surprised him with one one time. He kept saying, "man, that sammich was REAL GOOD!" He emphasized 'REAL GOOD!' From time to time, he'll ask if I'll be going by anywhere that sells em. And then, at times, I'll just surprise him and grab one for him.
I'll get it king-size and they cut it in half

JL---just finished the Vid. Had to tell you----I make JERSEY TOMATOE sandwiches in later August and September every year! Good Bread, REAL cheese, REAL olive oil, seasonings--toasted great bread----YOU BE ROCKIN!!! NO flesh! Just Nature!! YUM
JL...thanks from all of us who have had to move away for one reason or another. I was back a few months ago with my son who was born on L.I. and we went ALL over the area and ate everything...and he FINALLY believed me when he tasted how delicious all the hoagies, heros, and egg sammies were. If you don't like tomatoes you have never eaten actual tomatoes! And I honestly feel sad for your experience. 😞 We used to grow them on our village and you could just eat them alone with bread and salt! 🙏🤗

Rita's Water Ice is OFFICIAL. We need more of those shops in the NY area. That stuff is addictive.
There's not many Rita's in NYC but there's plenty in North Jersey (North Arlington, Nutley, Bloomfield, Hoboken, Bayonne)

@@darthyves Atlantic City is a far drive from me, whenever I'm in NJ I look for one. Especially when I'm at six flags they have it. Overpriced but they have it. It's whatever as long as I get my fix. Yes I said fix. Don't care, that stuff is good.
Jersey Tomatoes are the best! I always make a nice sandwich with some nice potato bread, mayo , salt, pepper and thin tomato slices. Some nice kettle potato chips go well as a side.
Almist forgot, i think yer the bees knees, i just love yer personality, the way u involve yer family in the vids, n last but not least yer taste.... U take bein' a foodie to a whole nother level, killin' it...

Man you have no idea how bad I miss South Philly. Watching you brings back memories and places I missed or never existed. I watch with my wife, who's never been there and talk it up to her. Hopefully I'll be back soon.
Was born and raised in North Philly and we always ate tomatoe sandwiches , with white fresh soft bread 🥪!!!

Bruh. YES, for tomato sandwiches. I like mine toasted with cheese, caramelized onions and garlic, thyme, pepper, season salt, and Valentina hot sauce. The bread needs to be able to provide some texture crunch, and buttery flavor too. Nothing beats that warm, tasty, creamy, and juicy filling, and the contrasting crunchy bread, and especially with bean and bacon, bean and ham, or French onion soup to enjoy with it. This takes me back to some of my best foodie child and adulthood memories. Thanks my man. Big up for for the dad's being dad's talk. Keep it real.

Try and make your way out to Cafe Carmela’s in the north east, top 2 cheesesteak in Philly. They also have copper sharp cheese and plenty of onions. They won’t disappoint

My pops owned a bakery in the Bronx that was handed down to him through 3 generations. I know that bread makes every sandwich. He wasn't deli he was bakery but distributed bread all around my second uncle owned a bakery as well in Lodi nj but it kept flooding out. Bread runs in my veins. As muffins, David's and jimmys cookies. 9/11 hit and he sold the family business. I wanna open up a new bakery so bad. He was actually the main distributor throughout the tristate area back in the late 90s for blimpies

My wife and I moved to Georgia almost 2 years ago and yes we regret the move as far as food is concerned! Water ice is almost non existence in Georgia. For a state that gets as hot as it does. I don't understand? Forget about a great cheesesteak or hoagie! We should be headed back up north within a couple years! Thanks JL!
