@@straberryshinigami15g97 Here's some vegan tips in Japan that I come up with immediately: Don't forget Japanese Tofu is different from Western's. It makes the meal soggy. Be careful of Dashi(出汁)! Some foods which look vegan contains fish. Eat rice. Many bread that you find in the supermarket or convinience store contains milk or egg. Rice is safer choice almost anytime. Enjoy Japanese unique food, like Kurumafu(車麩), 高野豆腐(freeze-dried tofu) Make a reservation before you go to the restaurant. Many restaurants don't have vegan options, which means that you can't find another place to eat soon when the restaurant turns out unavailable. Make your meals as possible. I personally rarely eat out. Find supportive people, and eat with them... Japanese people (especially the elderly) tend to make highly of "eating anything". It's cultural thing based on religion or whatever. It is safe not to eat with those people. Gyomu supermarket (業務スーパー) and Kaldi(カルディ) deals with lots of vegan essentials! Hope your next stay be fun!

This video is everything a studio Ghibli fan could dream of! Well done! I was especially happy that you adressed the difference in dialogue and tone in the different dubs of a movie. For pure nostalgia I prefer to watch the classics in german but I do love the english dub of Kiki’s delivery service as they added extra lines for Gigi which make him even more sassy. Another aspect on the movies is how some of the classics are clearly inspired by european cities (for example Kiki, Porco Rosso and howl’s moving castle) in contrast to those with typical nostalgic Japanese settings (Totoro, whisper of the heart and Up on poppy hill) which is easily depicted by the food displayed. What I love most about studio Ghibli movies is how they are made for all generations. Every movie deals with different problems of modern society but the problem and solution are delivered in a very settle way. There are some very good video essays on different topics and themes of movies here on youtube. Lastly, I can’t really tell which is my favorite movie as they are all so different and special. I love Kiki, Totoro, Whisper of the Heart and Howl’s Moving Castle. But if you want to check out the more mature movies, I would recommend Princess Mononoke and especially The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, a true masterpiece telling the old Japanese tale of the bamboo cutter, which didn’t get as much recognition in the West as it deserves. Besides from Princess Kaguya, the movie that will make even a stone-hearted one cry is Grave of the Fireflies (Japan after WWII). Watch only at your own risk.
aw thank you so much for your insightful comment!! Uhhh can't wait to get into some of those video essays, so far I have only read a little bit on potential deeper meanings and interpretations of some of the ghibli stories, it's interesting how those can be quite dark at times. Also, I will have to give mononoke and kaguya a try then, thanks!! and maybe fireflies as well we'll see haha
I love the Finnish dub of Howl's moving castle the best. They make Howl sound super soft in it but Calsifer too sounds so fiesty too and Sophie seems like a real old lady.
Fun Fact: In the original Japanese Kiki, it was actually instant coffee. It was changed to hot cocoa in the English version because Americans are more skeptical on giving kids coffee
As a person hyperfixated on all things Studio Ghibli, I absolutely love this video. Grave of Fireflies always makes me cry so hard, and Spirited Away has to be my favorite!
I think that objectively Princess Mononoke is the best Ghibli movie, but my personal favourite will always be Kiki's Delivery Service. I loved it as a child, and when I moved away from home for the first time, I rediscovered it and it gave me so much comfort! Now that I am fully settled in and feel less lonely and lost than I did back then, I still can't help but bawl my eyes out whenever I watch it.
OH MY GOD I don't think I've ever clicked a video this fast 🥺 I've always wanted to have those white bun things Shihiro had on the balcony but never found out what they are or how to make them DANKE Mina
I always was fascinated by the fish tart the old lady baked for delivery to her grandson in Kikis delivery service. It looked so yummy so I was twice as angry about them not wanting to eat it.
I love this! As a Japanese person who also grew up watching Ghibli films, it was really heartwarming to see you make these foods and make commentary on the movies
growing up, The Cat Returns, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away were always on repeat for me! this video is amazing! how you were able to make everything vegan is awesome! and it looks delicious, especially the bread
Even though I have never watched any studio ghibli movie, I know that I will love this video because Mina's fandom videos are always a pleasure to watch :)
Well, this was a treat - all the goodies AND a translation focused segment? I'm in my happy place. Also, I now need to try the bean bao, it sounds amazing.
Mina, this is OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE EPISODE of yours! Thank you so much for doing this and I loved everything about it 🖤I also appreciate the short insights you had in between sections about Ghibli and food. Thank you Mina!
You speak so eloquently and intelligent. Love how you give explanations to the scenes of the films and your own observations. Your cooking looks amazing too! ❤
Spirted Away is my all time favorite Studio Ghibli film. Watched it was I was 5 years old and it’s been my favorite movie ever sense. The music the graphics is just timeless - I wish I could transport myself in the film lol. Howl’s Moving Castle is my second favorite film.
As a huge Ghibli fan this was amazing to watch! You put in so much effort and the food looks incredibly delicious!! It was really interesting to see how these meals would turn out when cooked completely vegan. My favourite Ghibli film is probably When Marnie Was There or Spirited Away (but it's so hard to choose bc I also love Kiki's Delivery Service) So glad I discovered this video 🥹
This video kept coming up in my recommended the last few days(funny enough that I just re-watched Howl's moving castle again) and I had no idea that the food was vegan but I was blown away by how great everything looked! Spirited Away was my first SG movie and it also traumatized me as a child. 😂
My favourite changes all the time between a list of faves. Those are Howl's moving castle, Totoro, From Up the Poppy Hill, Nausicas, Whisper's of the Heart and The Wind Rises. I loooove those movies, although I admit I have a bigger fascination with the first 4. However I also loooove Marnie, Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, etc. I just love Ghibli too much.
thank you so much for making a video on studio ghibli food in vegan. i love all the movies so much! for me the most comforting one is kikis delivery service, i watch it every time when i'm sick. howl's moving castle is my favourite movie of all time.
the bean bao buns look sooooooo good 🤤 i think i watched almost every single ghibli movie and my usual favorites are "kiki's delivery service", "spirited away", and maybe "arrietty". i'd also recommend some less famous pieces such as "marnie", "nausicaa" or "up on poppy hill". but the best tearjerkers are definitely "the wind rises" and "grave of the fireflies"... 10/10 would cry again.
My two favorite ghibli movies are spirited away and howls moving castle closely followed from when marnie was there, these three are my top ones. But I also quite like totoro and from up on poppy hill and many more!
i also love all studio ghibli movies but howl's moving castle will always be my favorite it's just such a beautiful movie and also the breakfast scene is so calming your video and recipes are amazing
I just watched like half of them in the past few days because I’d only seen half of them. I’ve been crying a lot. I- The wound is too fresh. 😭 I love these movies sm. The food looks very good and I’m definitely coming back for recipes. 🙈
Nice job, enjoyed watching that :). Also, the calm and soothing voice pretty well matched with the studio Ghibli masterpieces. I would like to try the food too, imagine a Ghibli restaurant 😊😋 By the way...hard to select one, but for me, "Howl's Moving Castle" is in the 1st place 🤩 and "When Marnie Was There" is the most emotional one 🥲
I’ve always loved this movies and the amazing people stories artwork. Howl’s moving castle will always be my favorite but I also love Kiki and castle in the sky as my second favorite then Totoro
I've always wanted to try these foods, anime always makes foods look so good, though foods in real life sometimes don't look as good as their anime counterparts, but these look *AMAZING* I definitely gotta try these
While I love all studio ghibli movies, I must say that totoro is my absolute favorite! All the characters are so cute and while it had me sobbing it was also the most adorable storyline! It was also the movie I would always watch when I was sick as a child, so it has a lot of emotional value to me

Great video, I love Ghibli movies! I was so surprised when I saw that hot cocoa! In the original and italian version (I'm italian) Kiki was offered coffee by Osono, not hot cocoa. It kinda make me laugh a little, because here in Italy is not uncommon to drink a little teeny-tiny bit of coffee at a young age, even six or so... and if you know italian coffee, you know it's pretty strong. I personally grew up drinking caffelatte at breakfast, which is a cup of warm or cold milk with about 1-1,5 oz of espresso in it, but if you're a kid they give you like half the amount of coffee. Also, I agree with you about Howl's american voice: so deep and "manly"! I've heard that Christian Bale liked Spirited Away so much that he insisted to be part of the dubbing cast. I don't know, I don't think his voice suits Howl. Anyway, great video, thank you!
Well now I am gonna have to Watch them all again, while recreating these❤ I cry so much everytime I Watch Spirited away! But Howls moving castle is my all time favorite
I love studio ghibli. My favourite film was always Castle in the Sky, the soundtrack, the scenery, the message, it's just such a beautiful film all around. I also really love Totoro, it's such a comfort film. The food looks great, thanks for sharing!

Okay I have to leave another comment - you put so much effort in this video and the recipes 😱😍🙌✨ I really loved it and most of all, that you started with Kiki - to answer your question, that is my favorite studio ghibli film, followed by Laputa and I also cry the most at my neighbor totoro! 😭
Studio ghibli, vegan food, this calming music in the background, simply everything including you. What a beautiful video! Love it. I think my favorite ghibli movie is going to be howls moving castle. I love Kiki's Delivery Service as well, but Howls Moving Castle.... I don't know maybe because it's the first Studio Ghibli Movie I ever watched 🙈
Looove the recipes ❤ My top 3 Ghibli movies are: Totoro (most wholesome movie in the world), Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke. Hard to choose my favorite. Mononoke probably shaped me the most.

Love it! I'm convinced now to try the steamed buns with bean paste. First film I saw was Howl's and it left me speechless but I think Spirited away is the one that made me cry the most. Thanks for the great video Mina

My first studio Ghibli movie was Kiki's Delivery Service that movie was so nostalgic to me as I watched at my best friend's house after school with the other friends at that time it was a CD player. My favorite one would be Howl's Moving Castle I watch that movie alone in my room like after a month since I break up with my partner and I cried out of happiness towards the end of the movie.
I watched kikis delivery service at my parents house last night and it was wonderful as the first time I saw it. I loooove these movies this video is perfection ❤
