I Crashed My V-Strom 3 Times On The Same Road!

  • This is a ride from way back in January 2018. It was this ride that made me realise I sucked and that I needed to improve 3 things in order to enjoy riding dirt roads more.
    Most importantly I needed to do some offroad training, so I quickly booked in for a training day with Mad ADV. madadv.com.au/...
    Secondly, I replaced my tyres with more aggressive dirt friendly tyres, the Mitas E07. And thirdly, I replaced my stock foot pegs with wider more stable pegs from Pivot Pegz. pivotpegz.com/...
    These 3 things combined made such a huge difference to my offroad riding confidence.
    I was riding on this day with Captain Cranky and ADV-Ryder Bloke. Their channels are below.

    That was great! I'd forgotten how much amazing we managed to fit in, the crashes had stuck in my memory...
    So funny, we didn't even know about Tiny's lookout back then, I actually prefer the bit where we stopped.
    Big day, I feel like I must have been 5 years younger,,,

      It was a huge day! I'd forgotten about us "discovering" that road that day and also getting soaked on the way home. It does seem weird that we didn't know where we were as ot feels like I've known that route forever now! 🤣

    Some unenjoyable tumbles there - glad it wasn't anything worse. Training days are so valuable, nice work signing up. Beautiful roads, so many gorgeous dirt roads out there.

    • @MrAusadventure

      The tumbles are all part of taking inappropriate bikes in inappropriate places! Without the level of skill required to make it happen anyway! 🤣
      Even now with more skills, I still wouldn't take my V-Strom back here. It is a beautiful ride through there!

    That second & 3rd tip over looked harder than the 1st,
    Glad u were okay and the scratches bring character :)
    Cool throwback viddi ,

      I rolled a lot further on the first 2 drops! 🤣
      I was glad the damage was only to the bike and could easily be fixed.
      Thanks mate. Life is busy here with lots going on.
      Hope all is well with you and that you've healed up after your spill. 👍

      Yeah, we were both confused for a bit that's for sure. It seemed weird rewatching this moment as we both know the roads really well there now! 🤣

    It sucks putting the first few battle scars on our bikes, but they help us worry less later in the ownership of little tumbles etc... glad you weren't hurt and the damage was minor, but you must have been annoyed at the time.
    Some great riding roads there mate... am not sure if I do or don't remember Cranky's version of this ride, I've been following you both long enough to! 🙂

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure  Год назад +2

      Thankfully these weren't the first battle scars on the bike, but yes, I did care less about the ones that came after this day! Yeah, I was gutted at first but it didn't take long to get over it. 🤣
      The day ended up being an incredible day of riding after that which certainly helped get over the crash.
      You would have probably seen his version of the day. I did mean to link both his and Chris' versions of the day but forgot!

      @@MrAusadventure I think it was why I took my Aprilia trail riding the moment I got it, so as to accept it's fate of having a hard life on the trails.

    Glad when you had your low speed offs you fell away from the bike and was unharmed. One of the blokes on our Tassie ride stopped to kick a rock off the road near the Hellyer George. He tried doing this whilst still on his bike and somehow made a mess of it and dropped his bike with him under it. Broke his ankle which required surgery with a rod and screws, followed by a long time in a cast and period of time in a moonboot... it was almost six months until he could do a short ride again. Another mate last year also dropped his bike whilst maneuvering it in awkward spot and also broke his ankle.
    So yeah, two broken ankles and a combined speed of about 1km/h... (lack of) speed can be dangerous 😅
    PS, the bloke who dropped his bike in Tassie did it on day 1 - he missed an awesome trip. He has signed up for next year though

      @@andrewrose9707 Oh wow! Yeah you can be unlucky sometimes. I warn my students about the dangers of shoelaces getting caught and this exact thing happening. Unable to get a foot down or the side stand due to laces being caught and the bike toppling over on their leg.

    Great vid mate, I rode mount Cole and the Pyrenees on my vstrom. It took a real beating, I found the same my mate on his ktm 690 kept going to slow. The gearing is a bit high for crawling and there's no backing off the throttle or you stop real quick.

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure  Год назад +1

      Yeah, the Strom likes to fall over when you lose momentum on uneven ground. 🤣 The only time I've dropped it more on a ride was doing single track in Tasmania. I'm going to have to do this road again on my drz as it will be a lot easier!

    you had a good go at it but there is a saying that goes the right tool for the job and that isn't the bike for that track.

    • @MrAusadventure
      @MrAusadventure  Год назад

      Yeah 100%. I now have a drz400 which is going to be much easier on this goat track! The V-Strom could do it under a skilled rider, but that isn't me! 🤣
      Even though I am much better now than I were when this was filmed.
