- My first Horror of the Rails adaption is this amazing story from Horror of the Rails 3. I hope you all enjoy this video as much as I had making it.
Made for general audiences
An idea for a story I had once was something based on the various interviews done for documentaries done in the 80s. The interviewee is a scrapman who was part of the process of en mass scrapping steam locomotives. He starts the interview at first talking about being glad for work in the lean times after the war, as he came back from Europe. And then he starts talking about having to cut up living beings, scared and crying. He breaks down about it, crying profusely for several minutes before finding the strength to continue the tale, about the result once an engine dies. And how few of his mates are still around, succumbing to their nightmares. As horrifying as scrapping is from an engine’s perspective, think of how awful it has to be for the person doing the scrapping. Most of us aren’t psychopaths who want to cut up others, and when the machine can talk back to you, show fear at its fate, it can’t do wonderful things to the psyche.
I can only imagine how we here in the US might have felt when we scrapped our steam locomotives. Thank goodness for preservation efforts.

Bro, the minute I listen and played back at everything in this video, I felt nothing but sorrow and remorse. As a child I was back in the day, I’ve actually watched & relished the Thomas & Friends Series, I loved every episode nonstop, and always thought that the Diesels were the enemy. But after I took a look at this video as I write this comment…I was completely wrong and baffled with everything I ever thought about them.
Good adaptation. The diesel in front looks like Paxton.

That was heart braking seeing those diesel including diesel being scraped.
The thing that makes all these scrap stories in this fandom so eery is the fact all of the engines getting scrapped accept their fate. None of them do anything to prevent it or are stressed about dying, this story nailed that concept

A fate worse than dying in a crash,theres a video by someone about possesed scrap of a Ivatt 2 class,the video showed the engine arriving and preaty much showing why scraping happens
This is a lesson to be carefull what you wish for or it will have great consequences

I have often wonderd. If put in a timeline what years does this story take place in. I am gessing early-1980s.
Yep. Either that or roughly 1976 to 1982. I believe that's when British Railways were scrapping many obsolete diesels.
If I was James I would bring them to the diesel works and get them restored and useful again
This is rather like a steam version of A Dark Night For Bert combined with Bert's Redemption.

James could have done something he could have rescued two of those diesel shunter's and saved them from being cut up, James could have taken them back to sodor and there they would have a safe life And the care that they deserved without the fear of being chopped up
You could make a horror with them getting converted into class 13s

i like the concept of diesels realizing they're eventual fate of being replaced tho i think it could be handeled better tho i feel like the story drags at some parts although thats just my opinion just a bit of contructive critisism

Faciesh Engines can not be scrapped. My book on the true stories of Sodor, which I shalt suggest shows more truth than all other stories of Sodor. Diesel is a Sodor engine, he would never have faced the smelters.
Non-standard versions did exist. The design has pre-war roots. They didn't fit in & got culled.

Because the dead diesel was the only scrap class 08 on the download station

I think that that JAMES is a heatless Engine for laughing at the Diesels at there worst time in there lives seeing diesel there is heart braking James could have done 1 thing he could have saved the 2 at th frunt but HE Didn't he only mumbled sorry but I don't bleve him he is a LIER
James couldn't have saved the two diesels at the front because otherwise the others would've charged him with favouritism surely
