Goes to show how bad the composer did for the Alto part, sounds akin to a tenor second "harmony". Based on how large the Alto looks in her hands, (I thought it was a baritone at first), I'd guess they're beyond young.
The kid probably isn't. They just are resting their hand on one of the trill keys. It's a common problem when your hands haven't grown to adult size, and it makes the whole saxophone sound like this one pitch that's kind of not any pitch.

A little strange definitely, but no where near as bad as these marching flutes in highschool IN MARCHING who did a parade lower/steeper than that the entire time.
I’m just surprised they can actually play. Our 6th grade band flutes can hardly hold a quarter note yet we go to an arts school and had to audition to get in
I play the flute and yeah I agree it shows that there not that confident and bending your neck to play is even harding because it allows less air to go into the flute

My 8th grade band sounded a little better than that and our trumpet was about the same. We had to have our teacher play. 5 of us held the band together. We’re all at separate schools and we are all in the wind ensemble at our schools and are the only freshman in the band.
True, but this sounds like the kids have just been thrown into performing stuff with hardly any practice, as if they'd only been playing for only 1-3 months
As a percussionist those percussion players were off by like a whole 2 seconds they need to work on their counting but over all I think they were playing the right rhythms
Why does it sound like 80% of the band is playing the same, out of tune note for the entire song, and the other 20% is actually a fairly typical beginning band?
Kids playing instruments are NEVER a fail! 💪🏾 We all start somewhere! And trust me, through some stroke of a pen or another, these kids will be signing your check one day! 🎷🎺🎻🥁
I guess I don't see this as a "fail". I see a bunch of kids who have done at least some practicing, who show up, and try to play a piece together. They are actually accomplishing something. I find that much more admirable (and, incidentally, considerably more courageous) than people sitting behind keyboards sniping at them.
I feel like it’s more of a matter of how can a band be this bad? I’m still in middle school band and even the lowest level band can still play great. How can a band make a pretty easy song nearly unrecognizable?
As a clarinetist, I think it’s because our fingers sometimes don’t cover the holes fully, or we’re pressing down on unnecessary keys on a not. For alto clarinet and lower, it’s because we’re biting on the mouthpiece too much, relaxing the embouchure too much, or not blowing enough air into the instrument
As a fellow sax player…why were they playing the same note the whole time??? In the arrangement I played we had the melody. And even tho I’m not a flute player what the heck is that posture. That one trumpet player has a future tho
The poor Alto Saxophone player just playing the same note over and over again :( Alto is one of the funest instruments and especially when you get the melody, unlike low brass. Poor girl!
The thing that sounded fail for the concert band is because some students did not practice to get better. They Need To PRACTICE to get better, because if not, then they won’t get better.
