    Night 4: • Night 4: Sleeping Insi...
    Please like this video if you like it ;)
    I spent 10 nights sleeping inside a Cheetah enclosure with two adults; setting up camp inside a concrete box in their territory. This was an experiment to see how Cheetah behavior differs from daylight activities and it turned out as one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I hope to make people rethink all their preconceptions about Cheetahs with my overall efforts. Things they won't read in a book, or see visiting a zoo, or watching on Nature Programs like Nat Geo Wild. It will take years.
    These two females were bred and hand raised at this Cheetah Breeding facility called Cheetah Experience in South Africa. I spent four days getting to know them first and letting them get to know me before spending any nights inside their concrete Cheetah box. They were surprisingly nice; even more so at night than during the day. Cheetahs are diurnal rather than nocturnal which means they hunt during the day rather than night. As a result, their moods were relaxed. Their thoughts were not about food or hunger, but relaxation and rest.
    I this episode, I film the Cheetahs initial entry into the concrete box. You see how they pick their spots and it's normally in the same place with Faith flopping down lengthwise to me and Eden following as she lays next to my head so she can groom me. Their groom sessions last up to 20 minutes to include "Love" biting. They finally settle down and become relaxed rest of night... occasionally purring when they woke up at the lightest disturbance. This was the basic routine every night.
    With Faith's handicap (sterile meningitis as a cub), her love biting is dangerous. She cannot control her bite strength and will cause scaring bites if she get's a hold of you. She grabbed my watch one year and broke the band off of it with my wrist still attached! I have seen scars from her love bites on peoples arms. So I did not let her grab me ever. She tried many times but it was only the 1st 20 minutes she and Eden liked love biting and after that, they both calmed down.
    Once they stopped the biting and grooming, they really relaxed and became very cuddly with Eden continuing to love bite but did not bite hard... normally. She did bite me hard a couple of times and I had to cough in her face very loudly to get her to release. It is what they teach you if any of the Cheetahs grab you with a love bite and won't let go. Of course that does not work if they bite to hurt you :)
    I show how they also love bite themselves and then how Eden fell in love with me. She insisted on laying falling asleep next to my face but it was after 15 minutes of grooming that was extremely painful. I had to keep blocking her affections until she settled down. She purred most of every night and getting sleep was minimal. But after the totally settle down and want to sleep, they were the most cuddly cats in the world. I could use them as hand warmers and wrap my arms around them for warmth.
    On my last episode, I'll discuss more about specific behavior I will highlight like dreaming, grooming, jealousy, and my conclusions as to why they behaved the way they did.

      @@CheetahWhisperer I've found a whole new world just by observing my two cats, there's a lot more than purring with cats, as those that think they are "aloof" means they are missing out of the body language and signs they really give off. Domestic cats do a tail bob - a quick vertical tail up down, starting with the tail up, as a sign of greeting or excited to see you. etc. it's really amazing how much communication there is.

      The temperament of lesser cats is what is amazing to me. I think the big separation in temperament between the bigger and lesser cats is their hierarchy in the animal predatory kingdom. Lesser cats are not the dominant species... the BIG cats are. Maybe being the under'cat' results in a mindset that is less aggressive and thus non combative and so flee rather than fight to live to breed again. Makes then more accepting of people when hand raised.
      Most all these tame lesser cats are friendly when raised properly and loved and respected. I met a male adult caracal today for the 1st time and it loved me.... suckling on my arm like I was it's mother. Hand raised.

    • @kaidosbuddyagaindoberman9119
      @kaidosbuddyagaindoberman9119 6 лет назад +7

      Bassem Boustany as said, they are far less aggressive than other big cats. I mean that, and perhaps I have the background of this story wrong, that if I entered the territory of two captive adult lions, it would be relatively sure I’d be attacked. For an adult lion, yea pretty sure it would be an impossibility to be anywhere near unless a very controlled setting I suppose. (Since I would be a total stranger to the lion). Did I miss this story, that you have a history with these cats?

      Cheetahs are human friendly. They always were. Urban legends that big cats are all of em dangerous is completely false. The fact is that, even Lions, Tigers other "dangerous" big cats are not dangerous if you treat em with respect and love. They are not stupid. Unless they are hunting and they see you as a prey because you did something wrong (something that rarely happens), you should not be afraid of these big cats. Urban legends keep messing with the real facts lol.

    "Cheetahs are about as tame as housecats, and just as affectionate. But that doesn't mean I don't side on the air of caution." That's good, because even my tame, lovey-dovey housecat ripped my arm to bloody shreds one day by accident, lol. He was asleep against me and mewing in his sleep (I guess with a bad dream or something). So, I stroked him--and he startled awake and attacked me before realizing what he was doing (still half-asleep I guess). When he figured out it was me, he seemed even more confused (probably also because I had cried out in pain). Blood started running down my arm from two really good slashes. I can't imagine if he was 100 pounds. No thanks. A 13 pound Norwegian is big enough for me, lol. But cheetahs do look super sweet. ♥

I've fallen in love with Cheetahs and want to learn all I can about them. There's no better way to spend my time and money for me.

      Yeah, these two are incredible. I'll have a cool video of my camping out in the open inside a cheetah enclosure with three different cheetahs. They gather around just like Eden and Faith and lay on and around you. There's something special in the minds of cheetahs about people... even for those who didn't raise them. I barely knew these other cheetahs as well... days only.

    • @CheetahWhisperer

      I totally agree! Butni have to admit, it's these cats who accept you. Just be nice, learn their behavior, what they like and dislike and work with that. But most of these wild cats had human interaction when young and why they are so accepting. Also depends on WHO they interacted with and what gender, race and how often during the imprinting stage of these wild a cats.

    Beautiful! They really are affectionate! That purr! As I understand it, all cats purr at approximately the same frequency - about 22 Hz. My little Sphinx does. My only experience with a big cat, a tame lion (male) named Samson, being in the enclosure with him revealed that lions DO in fact purr as well as he laid his head across my lap and I rubbed behind his ears. The only "play toy" his owners could give him that he wouldn't destroy was a bowling ball, which he loved. Quite an experience.

    Not comparable with a big cat obviously..but my cat is a heckuva love biter as well..she'll purr purr purr ..lick lick lick..and then suddenly, out of the blue ..she sets her teeth in me..HARD! I've been bleeding many times. I obviously didn't want to stop having these cuddly moments with her, but also didn't want to have hands and arms looking like i've been hit by a hand grenade either.. She's also never been the kind to want to play with any toys..just my hands and feet..So, my daughter finally came up with a solution (being a master cat whisperer) . A HAIR BAND. Those elastic things. She immediately fell in love with it. So now, when she cuddles up to me, and starts grooming and purring, i keep a hairband in my hand..tickle and rub her nose and face with it..and now when she gives a love bite, she grabs the hair band between her teeth and pulls it while i hold on to it. She LOVES it. Now she walks around carrying them , playing with them, and sleeping with one next to her . When i throw them, she'll fetch like a dog and brings them back at my feet purring like mad. It's just been the best most amazing solution for the both of us.

    Pretty funny watching them. Just watching them plop down right on you and start licking. I can bet you dred those licks sometimes. Not in a bad way. Just knowing they will hurt some what. I wonder if you could put something on your head or face that they would hate licking. I can also bet you never had to worry about getting cold with those big blankets on you.

    • @CheetahWhisperer
      @CheetahWhisperer  8 лет назад +21

      +lastwolflord They both loved grooming. Most all of these Cheetahs do. I know only one that doesn't groom or purr much but he is very smart. Maybe why.
      If I got cold, I'd just place my arms underneath them; like between their chest or belly. Cheetah body temperatures are much hotter than us and I would actually sweat where any part of me was touching them for very long.
      I wore a hoody a few times in there when it was really cold, and Eden would chew on the strings. She was disappointed about not being able to groom me. I would let her groom at times because she loved it so much.
      Finishing up Part4 now, but I need to begin Part3. I put 4 together and realized it's too long so breaking it up into two more parts. I cant release 4 until 3 is so will be both parts one after other next week.

    • @CheetahWhisperer
      @CheetahWhisperer  7 лет назад +58

      True. My 1st week with them I got maybe 2 hours of sporadic sleep as i took in the awe of it all. They are terribly light sleepers as well. Spend at the most, 20 minutes without waking up, purring, shifing, looking around and listening and being nervous. It is a survival trait to avoid being killing in the wild by other predators like lions and leopards.
      In subesquent volunteering, I learned to let go, relax, and sleep. I had too or would be dead tired during the day. I'd camp inside the enclosure earlier in the evening if i wanted to spend time with them 1st. Sometimes they didnt show up until hours later and wake me up, lick my face and arms, lay on me and purr until falling asleep. They loved being petted and snuggling. It is an incredible feeling having a cheetah lay its head across your face and feel its purring.

    • @CheetahWhisperer
      @CheetahWhisperer  7 лет назад +264

      Depends on the season (winter coat versus summer) the individual and how many and size of their black spots. Winter coats are nicer in that they fill out the undercoat. Summer they lose it but are very sleek, almost silky on their sides. The black spots have a finer fur and softer when they are covered more with black., Their heads and neck are rough coated and like a shaggy curly haired dog. Underbelly is coarse with long hairs (for cubs to snuggle and suckle). But in general, they are about average a 5. Nothing like a house cat, tiger, or leopard that are quite soft.

It's interesting even though they are such big cats and you know they could eat you, it's amazing to see them displaying the same exact behaviours as smaller domestic cats with the grooming and purring to indicate trust and affection to show they are relaxed with you. I was just reading about cats in ancient Egypt recently and in particular about how big cats were worshipped as Gods and watching this made me wonder whether or not humans had closer relationships to cheetahs and other big cats in the past not just the desert sand cats that became the precursor to the domestic cats.

I spent this past July with them and it was unreal, after the 1st night when I showed them I was back again, they were inside their cheetah house by 7:00pm every night. It was just amazing. They jostle for the closest snuggle near you and keep you warm and purred all night. They don't sleep well, restless as any sound wakes them up. A survival trait. I didn't get but maybe 5-6 hours total sleep. Up and down, new position, purr lay close, lick and purr some more then finally lay their heads down to sleep. It was amazing though.
