I don't think he was a junkie at all. It would absolutely show on his face long before his death. Let's not forget, items like heroin and cocaine were also very common in over the counter meds and could be found in almost any pharmacist's shop. It wasn't controlled at all like today. So if he did use a medicine, it was most certainly not abused! I thought it was sad that his memory is being shat on like this. We have absolutely no evidence he ever used drugs recreationally other than normal tobacco and liquor like wine, etc.
I'm sure he did coke..it was big in Hollywood's early days...just like it was in the 70s and 80s. So was weed, opiates of all kinds, and booze! But smoking crack wasn't a thing at that time! That came much later when people learned how to freebase! They sniffed it or shot it up. In fact there are alot of old blues and jazz songs about drugs...great tunes. It's a rabbit hole to go down if you like old blues and jazz or interested in the history of drug use in America.
I doubt he was into drugs .. he was a a health nut …back in that day they didn’t know how to treat ulcers .. if you let it get bad and not treat it it definitely can cause peritonitis.. he had appendicitis… people love to make up stories about him .. he wasn’t an angel but everyone that knew him didn’t have anything bad to say about him ..
