- Rudolph Valentino (1895-1926), Paramount's "Latin Lover", the "Great Lover" died from peritonitis after his divorce from Natacha Rambova (1897-1966). With Rambova, Valentino engaged in seances, automatic writing, the Occult and Spiritualism. Medical research from the 2000s reveals one cause of peritonitis: drug use. I don't think he was a junkie at all. It would absolutely show on his face long before his death. Let's not forget, items like heroin and cocaine were also very common in over the counter meds and could be found in almost any pharmacist's shop. It wasn't controlled at all like today. So if he did use a medicine, it was most certainly not abused! I thought it was sad that his memory is being shat on like this. We have absolutely no evidence he ever used drugs recreationally other than normal tobacco and liquor like wine, etc.
