TV has changed and not for the better. Today, TV shows dont use Openings like this anymore. They barely have any theme at all and they flash the casts name fast at the bottom of the screen. Fans loved start the hr with a great score of Music to pump them up for the show. IMO, This is the best version for the whole series. The music was timed just right When Donna Mills appeared.. That slow turn and that look to let everyone know she is the Villainess was matched perfectly! Thanks for posting
My favourite opening and theme. It may not have been to everyone's taste but the look on Donna Mills' face just oozes sex appeal as the music changes key...fabulous!!!! If only they hadn't got rid of Julie Harris!!
Very well said. For me, the show started to decline the sesaon AFTER the Jill storyline wrapped up which was probalby season 11. It seems the show at that point moved away from the core characters, and that magic that had been KNOTS up until then was gone. The ENTIRE Jill storyline was my all time favorite on the show -- and there were many great storylines. FANTASTIC!
Really?! Wow! How could you possibly say this show started to decline in this season? I really don't understand some people. You are certainly entitled to your belief but season 9 was one of Knot's landing's best and the show didn't start to decline until Season 13. Season 9 included the unforgettable Laura's death storyline and the Jill bennett storyline. These are two of Knots most beloved storylines. You can't be a true fan if you think the show declined in this season. Really?!
I will agree that things were not all that great after the Jill storyline. I didn't mind them moving away from the core so much. I think the biggest problem was that they didn't connect the new characters to the veterans. I always felt they should have brought Gary and Val's daughter Lucy to the show and one of Karen's sons to beef up the core family a little more. Bringing in new characters that are not connected to the core was a big mistake.
Lucy! Yes how interesting that would have been! Once Karen's daughter Claudia left, then her son Eric (the late Steve Shaw was written out like Doug Sheehan, then Steve had a fatal car accident) then Lucy would have been a great addition after she left Dallas. Oh and she woul bring Mitch Cooper along too! Leigh McCormick ooh la la!!
I thought the head shots were a little pretentious although I thought the slowing down of the theme was interesting. I liked it a little better in 1988-89 when they switched to color clips of the actors, but ultimately the slowed down theme was not favored since they went back to a faster paced theme in fall 1989.
Funny thing is I just watched a closing for knots landing during this season where the announcer is congratulating Knots landing for winning a soap opera digest awrd for best primetime drama before I read your comment. I don't care what you and some deluded fans on a few message boards had to say about this season. Just because you type it doesn't mean it's true. What we have is a different of opinions. I still say a true fan would not see this as a declining season. Anyhow, I'm threw with it.
+MrCraigblaze I hated how they wasted Laura, she was a great character and Lilimae...I liked her but I think after a while she probably should've moved on sooner. I hope to actually see if I can find episodes online so I can watch them as they unfolded back in the day
vidhead85 by the 1987-88 season the show had to cut costs.I did like lilimae as well.Maybe that is why the show got Betsy Palmer as aunt Jenny in the 1989-90 season.
And they didn't really do justice with some of the write outs. Laura's illness was not much more than a single episode and the very strange disappearance of Ben never to be resolved properly
I'd love to spend an evening with all 3-mature-actresses from Knots-Landing: Joan Van Ark, Karen or Michelle Lee and Donna Mills( Abby Ewing) : yes, spend an evening with these California-women from Los Angeles-Period!!!.
Too comtemporary? Really? How can this theme be too comtemporary for Knots Landing? I just don't get that comment at all. The show was heade into the 90's during this time. It was time for it to be comtemporary.
By January, 1988 the show started to go down hill. To 1988 to 1993 they using more office scenes and less home life on the cul -de sac. Plus studying the show more guest actors were getting more story lines and the core actors were getting less story lines. I did not like that at all.
It's the Laura head turn for me. Just love it,I repeat that part over and over.
I feel the same way !
I also been playing that part over and over again. Very sexy Laura head turn. 😘
That Constance McCashin head turn is very sexy !!
I keep playing that part over and over again !! 😍😍😍😍
Who misses the days when shows had opening themes? My...I love those...
Exactly. Nowadays it's how much advertising and self-promoting can we squeeze into what could've been used for a great theme. 😒😔
I found it again...great theme♥️ I love Laura's head turn... classic '80's Soap opening ❤️❤️❤️
I thought that was fantastic too, true soap opera opening
Constance McCashin channeling Falcon Crest's "and Susan Sullivan as Maggie" whiplash pose.
Or Joan's punk look. lol
Laura's head turn is the sexiest of all the series.
In my opinion, this was the best "Knots" opening. It was unique and classy.
This was the BEST opening sequence in the show's History. It is soothing, Romantic, Peaceful and Dreamy.
Season 1, 5, 9 are Knots Landing in my mind. Ah, my youth & teenage years in SF Bay.
The end of this theme ALWAYS gives me goosebumps. I didn’t like it when I first saw it but I have come to love it!

The "head in a bubble" credits always looked so awkward. I thought Constance McCashin was going to get whip lash!!
My favourite opening and theme. It may not have been to everyone's taste but the look on Donna Mills' face just oozes sex appeal as the music changes key...fabulous!!!! If only they hadn't got rid of Julie Harris!!
+campgalore i think Constance McCashin's head turns stands out the rest.
+Stephen Malcolm Constance McCashin outdoes Susan Sullivan's spin in Falcon Crest's opening LOL
I bet this series won a few Emmys for this.
Donna Mills / Abby ❤ the timing of her face with the music is everything ! Gorgeous !

@MrInmyopinion Constance had just been fired even though she was the best actress and character on the show, she'd earned that dramatic turn.
WELCOME TO KNOTS LANDING
This has got to be the most dramatic opening to anything ever. All the black and white slow-mo turns... Lol
I was thinking the exact same!!!! lol Fallon on Dynasty, Magie on Falcon Crest etc etc.

Joan Van Ark always looked amazing with amazing blonde hair.
My top favorite!!!
Gary's slow serial killer smile...
She looks like David Bowie! LOL
this is my favoite one that and season 8, and 10
Was sad era...Knowing Laura was gonna die...But love this theme song..

This is just like the Y&R graphics!!!
I guess every soap was required to have one character do the fast turn around.
Everyone looks WAY too serious!
BEAUTIFUL INTRO

OK, what was the painting of? It looks like waves.
I liked Joan's hair in this opening, different

I have to say that you remember a theme song as well as the stars if the show was worth remembering lavb5474
LOL at JVA's hair!!!
Loved Knots Landing! Didn't like this new intro though.
nice opening but too depressing.
This season the show had to start cutting expenses..Going with the splattered paint opening. And axing two stars.. LAURA and Lillimae.
+MrCraigblaze I hated how they wasted Laura, she was a great character and Lilimae...I liked her but I think after a while she probably should've moved on sooner. I hope to actually see if I can find episodes online so I can watch them as they unfolded back in the day

MrCraigblaze Never knew that. the longer a show goes on, the more expensive it costs as everyone wants a piece of the pie.
vidhead85 True. I hope they get to know that over on the Walking Dead...XD
And they didn't really do justice with some of the write outs. Laura's illness was not much more than a single episode and the very strange disappearance of Ben never to be resolved properly
Touche'. Now can we move on already?
I'd love to spend an evening with all 3-mature-actresses from Knots-Landing: Joan Van Ark, Karen or Michelle Lee and Donna Mills( Abby Ewing) : yes, spend an evening with these California-women from Los Angeles-Period!!!.
My least favourite intro.. and then I saw Joan Van Ark's hair!

I guess I'm in the minority, but I think Constance McCashin's head turn is out of place for the style they seemed to he going for.
Some serious looking faces...
They killed of laura!
Please the leave dramatic turns to Maggie in 'Falcon Crest'
