Knots Landing is to me the greatest soap ever. I use to laugh at my family for liking soaps, until I seen Knots Landing, Knots Landing to me had more realistic storylines , the writing and the acting is incredible. When Val's Twins were Kidnapped my family would sit and watch it, me, my brother and my father got hooked and stayed hooked until the end. I'm not sure I'll ever see a primetime soap writing this good ever again. My favorite all time storyline is when Jill gets into the house and forces Val to take Pills and write a suicide note, I hope someone releases the entire series on DVD, I'd pay $100 for the complete series. Best primetime soap to me is Knots Landing, Best Day Time soap to me ever is The Edge Of Night
One of the biggest (and few) mistakes that Knots ever made was getting rid of Linda. After introducing a series of new characters that were only mildly interesting, they finally get it right with Linda, and then, kill her off.
This was another case of Knots Landing at it's best. I think this was one of the last good storylines they had on the show. Both Steve Shaw (RIP) and Pat Petersen should have had better storylines way before this. Then to have just one good story and then see ya no longer need ya. They did not deserve that. They were extremely talented, yet horribly underused actors. They both deserved an emmy for this if not at least a nomination!!
Pat Peterson was the best! Always thought he was such a great actor and a.shame he didn't do fine after KL went off the air. KL was the best night time soap of them all.
Steve Shaw who played Eric tragically died in a car accident Dec 5 1990. Episode #298 was dedicated to him. Michele Lee sang a song with clips of him during the final moments of the episode.
Yet Greg did similar things with all the other women he got with but somehow moving Linda into his house was unrealistic. You obviously didn't understand the character of Greg. Greg was afraid to allow himself to be with Paige because I think he was afraid of losing her and having the suffer the pain he experienced when he loss his first love Laura. He kept pushing Paige away yet it was very clear that he wanted her. Linda was a substitute for Paige because she fit the type but he didn't have to worry about getting hurt because he never truly loved Linda. It makes perfect sense. I know this comment was made 7 years ago but I just had to respond.
I loved Michael he is the good-looking of the brothers for sure It is something scandinavian about him. Seems like he is not acting anymore that a shame. Horrible about Steve Shaw traffic accident. Did not know until now.
I loved Linda Fairgate, she was the reason why I finally watched the show, lol. But they changed her character too much later on. Just like Jill, who was too balanced and smart to go off the deep end as she did.
oh please, Jill's descent into madness was very well-done and believable. So only dumb and unbalanced people go off the deep end? It's the ones who have it altogether that are more pronged to snap. Peter's death affected Jill majorly and not being able to properly grieve him (due to her hiding that they were siblings) started her descent into madness. Plus, she became obsessed with Gary and afraid of losing the object of her intense affection. I've never heard anyone say or write that Jill's descent into madness was unbelievable. That title goes to Paige's boyfriend Pierce in Season 13. Also, it's like you were not paying attention because Linda was a trip from the start and became driven by her ambition to climb to the top of the corporate ladder. It's not like anything she did was remotely crazy like Jill. Linda just came into her own as a great villainess. The one thing I do agree on is that it was extremely dumb for Knot's Landing to kill her off. Her character really had gained traction.
@@JLvatronObviously this is a belief that you firmly believe. Sometimes it's easier for us to believe certain things to shield us from harsh realities. For maybe 4 years the actor that played Michael was giving of a Christopher Atkins/Mark Hamill vibe. He was very brooding and actually a good actor to. It seems he could have been used in a few of them direct to video movie releases that were popular at the time that featured "semi male nudity". I was crushing on him bad back then. Wonder what he looks like today. Loved his shirtless scenes in the yard playing basketball!
I never really liked Michael. The actor was great but Michael ..."I didn't do anything WRONG!" ....that just didn't sit too well with me. I suppose it had something to do with having a huge crush on the character of Eric. I ended up naming my own son the same name! OH, and when Steve Shaw died....I was devastated!
Michael was a whiny bitch. Never admitted any wrong...fucking his brothers wife was really sleazy. Nothing wrong.... fuck them! I don't know if he was being sarcastic, but he was a real tool... good riddance.
I recall reading about his death in a tabloid ages ago, I thought it was a hoax, until years later I found out it was true. I believe his car collided with a garbage truck.
Karen had issues with young blondes and Michael. First Paige deflowers him and then Linda breaks him and Eric apart. In the end he found a brunette... Claudia's daughter.
Kinda shitty how KL never acknowledged the actors death on screen, a post-script, In Memory of sort of thing, but no storyline of him dying... the show needed some pick up in those latter years. Although the show was never outright terrible, it had tons of boring characters who took time away from the solid characters.. .
SAL Paradise They did acknowledge the actor's passing at the end of an episode. Not sure which episode it was though. If I remember correctly they showed a special video tribute to Steve Shaw and Michelle Lee was singing. ❤️❤️😔😔
Michele Lee sang Look at That Face a cappella at the very end of an episode commemorating his death. There was a bit of a slide show and we heard her singing and then it faded to black. Yes they did acknowledge him. Sad hugs.
Lar Park Lincoln was made to look like a strong actress with editing and good writing, and she was really good in the role but she was not as skilled as most of the cast. Her scenes with Michael and Eric often looked like beginners in an acting class.
This was when the show jumped the shark for me. In the mid-to-late-80s, Lucy Ewing and the Fairgate kids were written out so middle-aged Karen and Val could become 'yuppie soccer moms' to Bobby, Betsy and Meg. This was to placate the aging actresses' vanity. The "Mac and Karen adopt Meg" story was lame and ruined the direction of the show. I guess that was the whole reason for killing off Laura Sumner, aside from allowing Greg to date Paige. Diana, Michael and Eric Fairgate should have been developed as adult characters instead of making Karen the mom of a baby to make Michele Lee appear younger.
+Roland Baldwin Lucy was written out of Dallas the same year Val gave birth to the twins. She was still Gary and Val's daughter and could have turned up in California. Not ceased to exist.
+ezzony But the next season they added the black family, Jill Bennett, Eric's wife, Ann Matheson, Jean Hackney, Paige's ex-boyfriend...so how could production afford to pay all those new actors? Doesn't make much sense.
+ezzony Ask any true fan of the peak years of Knots (1982-87) and they'd agree losing Constance McCashin, Lisa Hartman, Julie Harris, Fairgate kids, etc hurt the show and it was never the same.
Karen’s kids were awful. They always sided with selfishness especially Diana. Please make them stop before people see them as examples of how to be married or together. Even Olivia could see her cousins were wrong while she was on drugs.
If Karen didn't love Eric in the first place then why did she marry him? Speaking of crushes that's how love starts out. It starts out little then it grows and grows.
Let’s stop and appreciate how much Michael showed his love for his adopted sister Meg.
What;'s he suppose to do, kick her?
Lol! There were so many great moments on that show that it's difficult to define which has impressed me the most.

I totally agree with their, knots landing one best U.S. soaps ever. People in U.S.A don't realise it People around Europe, Ireland and England.
Agreed. I loved both shows.
Agreed
I used to watch it too.
Linda was no prize to either brother...She Wedded one and flirted with the other.
Well, I think this is one of the best moments and storylines of Knots Landing. One of the best episodes of the entire show.
Why do you think linda Wants to drive a wedge between michael and eric??
I miss the 70s and 80s. I remember this show like it was on yesterday. I really don't like today's TV.
One of the biggest (and few) mistakes that Knots ever made was getting rid of Linda. After introducing a series of new characters that were only mildly interesting, they finally get it right with Linda, and then, kill her off.
@Sebastian Sutton At first I thought she was annoying, but after they made her really duplicitous, I really liked her.
@Sebastian Sutton Yes, the loss of Donna Mills was a huge blow. Abby is one of my all-time favorite TV characters.
She could've filled Abby's shoes better than Anne or Claudia
Alleged backstage probs between the actress and another blonde actress.
And look at 0:18 Linda was ahead of her time with her ecological point of view.

They should have mentioned how Sid would have been so disappointed in him.
I wish that they'd put the whole series out on dvd or for streaming.

Jody Mine too.
Yeah ABBY was a Real Mom that storyline
Very good story line, made Abby show her soft side of a mom who does anything to help her daughter get off drugs.
