In young patients, the usual suspect is allergic conjunctivitis, called mistakenly "dry eye" by some colleagues.
The papillae could be very mild, but the symptoms could be severe, with suicidal risk.
Great point, but allergic conjunctivitis is a clinical diagnosis that can be effectively controlled with resolution of symptoms.
This patient did not suffer allergic conjunctivitis nor dry eye.
So, once you told him it was "psychosomatic" the problem resolved itself?
