    My father has scaring in his right eye from an injury he had when he was a kid. All he sees is foggy colors but no shapes. We went to a specialist and they said there was nothing that could be done. Do you think this procedure you’re explaining would work on such scars?

    Hello, how else can it be reversed? I had an appointment yesterday where a doctor had said CXL is now necessary. I asked for copies of the scans and she just laughed and said “they can’t be printed”… I asked if I could do anything try to stop the progression etc. since it appeared to be stable for a while… she scoffed and laughed again saying “it’s just the nature of the diseases”. Unbelievably sickening.

      Generally you cannot reverse keratoconus without surgery. You can however look to slow down or stop progression of keratoconus in mild cases. I am a big advocate of stopping people rubbing their eyes, this is always my first course of action. I only use CXL in a very select mild cases, this will again only slow down the progression of keratoconus. In severe cases, progression continues regardless of what you do. As with most medical problems, sometimes it is worth getting a second opinion - this will at least put your mind at ease, if nothing else. I hope that helps.

    Hello Doctor, I scratched my left eye on 31/08/2024, I have corneal abrasion , my Cornea is healed now, I don’t feel pain anymore since 3 weeks ago. I consulted any doctor who has 32 years experience and he is a cornea consultant. Both doctors said I should use eye drops lubricant and eye gel. I used also eye drops which contain NaCl. I tried everything, both doctors said I need more time until the blurry vision goes away. One of the doctors said I might need another Lasik surgery , while the other one kept saying I just need 2 more weeks. I don’t think that the blurry vision will go away. By the way, I had 1 lasik surgery on my left eye in 2016. Please Advise me doctor.

      It is really hard to advise as it sounds like several things are going on. The rule of the cornea is give it time. The surface takes 3 to 6 months to settle.

    Is it normal that my eye with the recurrent corneal erosion is so blurry every time it attacks and when in pain? Erosion is like every other week, it becomes blurry then slowly my vision tends to improve very very slowly. Then erosion occurs again

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof
      @DrAnthonyMaloof Месяц назад

      Thank you for your question. It's not uncommon for your vision to become blurry during a recurrent corneal erosion episode. The pain and blurriness typically accompany the erosion as the surface of the cornea is affected. After the initial discomfort, it's normal for vision to slowly improve as the cornea heals. However, frequent episodes like yours can be challenging. It's essential to follow up with your eye care provider to explore treatments that may help reduce the frequency of erosions and manage symptoms more effectively. Take care!

    Thank you for this. Very comprehensive and reassuring. I only wish my own ophthalmologist was more forthcoming with recovery information. I mean, I know I needed this surgery. I know there are other treatments but they are less effective. I know I have needed this surgery for a long time, but they wanted to wait until I needed cataract surgery because I am a Veteran of the US Navy, and they have their reasons. At least I have had the surgery. I have hope that my vision will improve going forward. But they gave me no information about recovery other than, "Use these drops this many times a day for this many days or until we tell you to stop, and use these drops this many times a day until we tell you to stop. Take over-the-counter pain relievers for any discomfort. Wear Sunglasses." Not really much information about how long recovery was going to take. Your video fills in that gap. And yes, I am aware that by leaving this comment I reveal myself to be current in technology, which is an occupational hazard. I am a computer support and IT person. Somebody has to do it ...

    I had DMEK surgery 3 years ago after suffering with Fuch's for decades (no pain, but lights against a dark background were surrounded with halos, and colors were dull). Best decision I've ever made. I was given basically the same advice and I followed it as faithfully as I could, and the results were great--both in the doctor's opinion and my own. I had an additional restriction: I live near Prescott, Arizona about a mile above sea level. I had to travel to Phoenix for the DMEK procedure, the nearest place that offered it. Because of the altitude difference, I had to wait 5 days before returning home--otherwise the bubble holding the transplant in place would expand and possibly burst with the change in altitude and reduced pressure. I don't like to think about that collateral damage. Even with that inconvenience, I couldn't be happier with the result. My corrected vision is 20-20, I don't require glasses to drive, and the best part is the halos are gone, and colors are bright and vibrant again!

    I had lasik eye surgery four years ago. I never had dry eye before and developed dry eye afterwards. One day my left eye went black for 20-30 sec and I got scared and saw my optometrist who looked behind my eyes and saw nothing also confirmed it wasn’t an eye stroke. I still had a healthy eye and 20/20 vision. Today I wake up and have a sharp stabbing pain in the same eye. I put warm compress, took fish oil supplements, eye drops, and castor oil and it has been shooting the pain on and off all day. Please do you have any suggestions? Do you think it’s more than dry eye🙏

    Dr I have a scar from a knife scratching my eye from when I was 5 years old right in the center and it made my vision blurry. Im 23 now, do you think there is something I can do to improve it? I dont have any aesthetic issues with my eye and thats why I never looked too much into it (while sacrificing my other eye health) but if something can be done Id like to look into it.

      There are options to be explored. If you have a corneal specialists locally, they can examine you and work out options specific to your case.

    is this burring possible if i have had a PTK due to scaring on the cornea?? im getting the Recurrent Corneal Erosion symptoms after i had the PTK (had to have it do to remove the haziness due to scarring) i was told that it is alot better after the surgury, but i cant do another round of PTK as the skin is too thin to do so. would cross linking help in strengthening the skin by any chance??

    Hi dr anthony, I was told that I have high eye pressure after doing that scan (te one with the rainbow colours) and was asked do I rub my eyes. I said no I don’t and that my vision is quite bad and gets worse every year. He told me that after 2 or so months it had progressed with a change in the eye mapping. Would your opinion be that I should get cross linking done as to stop my ey sight getting worse?? Also do you do video consultations as im from Melbourne. thank you

      Rubbing can happen during sleep. It is hard to comment on your case without maps or measurement of change.

    Ok here guys Dr. Anthony Is it possible to progress myopia by 5 diopters in 5 years in your late 20s, from rubbing your eyes and sleeping on stomatch? Would that be keratoconus? Or what exactly gets damaged from doing that to cause this high nearsigthness?

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof
      @DrAnthonyMaloof 5 месяцев назад

      Rubbing your eyes can certainly cause damage and warp your cornea. Same with sleeping on your stomach if pressure is applied to your eyes whilst you sleep. I would definitely get checked out by your local optometrist and they can identify if it is Keratoconus or something else. Would love to know the cause after you have had a checkup.

    Doctor, could you please advise how to wash your hair safe after PTK? In which position and also if shampoo may get in the eye? Also if you don’t mind telling, is it uncomfortable to keep a lens for the whole month or so? Usually when I wore contact lenses in the past I couldn’t wait to take it off at the end of the day. Is this lens feels any different?

    What kind of surgery do you need for a central haze and scar in one eye? Will that surgery cure you? Could I do a cataract surgery after treating a haze in cornea? Will I ever be able to stabilise my vision? I’m really desperate here, really distraught: the surgeon told me I had the haze and a scar on cornea when I came to discuss a cataract surgery. Now I’m waiting to see a corneal doctor and surgeon. I’m scared of what he’s gonna tell me. The first surgeon wrote in his report that scarring looks inactive and long-standing. Please give me some idea how serious it is. My eyesight started deteriorating last summer in that eye and I was told in December that it’s a cataract, but I could not have imagined I had something else there!!!

    • @DrAnthonyMaloof

      It depends on the cause. Deep scarring can be reversed with stromal transplantation, replacing the structural layer with clear tissue. See this link ruclips.net/video/ZmLXvt4KcCM/видео.html

      @@DrAnthonyMaloofThe corneal doctor of 30 years experience said that the topography was acceptable and forget about the scar and the haze is natural to my eye. No treatment for cornea needed. So carry on with cataract surgery back to the original doctor who said I had scar and haze. And they both know each other. The first doctor is not a corneal specialist but now I’m worried to have an operation with him although he is a renowned Vitreoretinal Surgeon and does these operations all the time. Will see.

      @@DrAnthonyMaloof Dear, Doctor. Thank you for asking. I am still waiting for my cataract operation. I went to another clinic and did all tests, the optometrist told me that the scar is like deposits or some residue in the cornea, and said it may affect a little bit my vision: it’s like cataract affects 90% of the vision and the scar 10% but he is also positive that I don’t need to do any operation on my cornea. I may update later what happened.

      Unfortunately, the direct answer is no. Glare is not always due to haze but the optical change created by laser surgery.
