Thank you for watching! :)
nope
Why'd you cut out your reaction to Triangle of Sadness getting Best Original Screenplay though? Well, seems like you cut out quite a few in other categories too.
true dat
Nope didn’t even get nominated for best sound I am disappoint
I could not imagine walking out of Nope and saying "ya know this pretty good, but it's certainly no Elvis"
Yep
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio only being nominated for best animated feature when it’s been consistently nominated for best score, best song, and occasionally best production design and sound for other award shows really shows how The Academy really treats animation as its own, minor thing and nothing else.
You're just plain wrong.

The fact is that they were tight categories, and categories in which only 5 could be nominated but at least 10 were deserving
Del Toro's Pinocchio is my favorite movie of 2022
yea and you should probably watch more animated movies if you think pinocchio was remotely the best one this year
@@Kosiduss something something typical commenter infers something completely different from what was said
I think puss in boots was the best of the year personally
I’m a little sad that Nope wasn’t nominated for Sound. I know it’s not everyone’s favorite movie but the sound design really was sick.
Should at least gotten sound (maybe original screenplay too ) 😢😢
You know Nope was a great movie, especially when the main awards of the industry refused to own up to the kind of predatory behavior it depicts. The whole movie is about the terror of erasing minority voices and there wasn’t a single Black led film nominated for best picture. The irony.
@@Jed_Elias I fully agree
I said the same damn thing
@@Jed_Elias so there wasn’t a Latino lead movie nominated for best picture . Really? That has nothing to do with it
I know the oscars aren’t horror/thriller fans, but it woulda been nice to see Nope, Pearl, Barbarian, Wendell & Wild or The Menu get some recognition.
I would have loved to see Mia Goth nominated for Pearl, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen. Nope definitely should have been nominated for Sound and potentially Best Picture in my eyes.
its so frustrating
specifically the menu and nope for me
For horror (or genre films in general) to be nominated, those movies have to bring something special to the table. Those movies have to go above and beyond. Being good or great isn't enough, those movies have to be exceptional.
and bones and all but i get why obviously lol
They did my man Park Chan-wook dirty. Decision to Leave was not even nominated for the Best International Feature Film. BRUH
Maybe because it was complete shit 🤷🏾♂️
True
True
True
True
Decision to Leave getting nothing has unlocked a deep, lumbering anger i didn't know was in me
Flabbergasted that it got NOTHING 🤯
It did not even get a nom for cinematography wth
Agreed 😭 The cinematography in some of the scenes was unreal, like nothing I'd ever seen before
@max silbert i know right, it's one of the best shot movies I've ever seen. Insane visuals.
Lol don’t even be upset. Decision to Leave is way too ahead of its time for these Oscar snobs, not surprised it blew by them.
HOW DID THE BATMAN NOT GET A NOMINATION FOR CINEMATOGRAPHY?!
For real, if anything The Batman had cinematography as it’s standout quality
Nope
Maybe they didn’t want to nominate Greg Fraser again
The Batman got more than it deserved in nominations. I agree that it should have been up for best cinematography, but I'm upset it got so many other noms. Most overrated movie of 2022 by far.
because it released march 2022 and everyone forgot about it
stephanie hsu’s performance and character is the emotional core of the entire film. without her the movie does not work.
amen
So true
Exactly! She captures Joy’s nihilism so perfectly and I’m glad at least the Academy had the sense to nominate her.
He is fk racist
thank you🤝🏼
they were just paying homage to Decision to Leave by deciding to leave it
they also payed homage to Nope by saying nope!
I can't believe Mitski has an Oscar nomination 😭
I was genuinely screaming, 'this is a life' is actually one of my favorite songs from last year
I’m so happy!!!
Never expected for Karsten to singlehandedly be responsible for Decision to leave to be left out just for an ad-read but gotta admire the craft!
Decision to Leave should have been nominated for so many categories including Best Picture, but the one I am most upset about is Best Editing. The editing was so good in Decision to Leave, it was snappy, engaging, and hid so much meaning behind every cut and shot!
I know. I was expecting several nominations.
The campaign wasn't strong enough
I'm disappointed.
I loveeeeeed Stephanie Hsu’s performance in Everything Everywhere and am very happy she’s finally being recognized for her role, since Jamie Lee Curtis has been the one talked about in Award Shows.
He is racist
@@bca-jf9cg are you joking?
@@bca-jf9cg lmao wut
@@bca-jf9cgnot racist he's just don't got taste but it's his opinions still 😂
I love that I'm not the only one who listens to the score to Babylon in my free time. Welcome is such a great opening track and Voodoo Mama is literally the entire movie of Babylon in a three minute song
listen to it constantly justin hurwitz was my #1 from listening to the la la land and whiplash soundtrack
For me it's Coke Room
Welcome, Voodoo Mama, Call Me Manny, Gold Coast Sunset, Wild Child, Manny and Nellie's Theme, Red Devil... the soundtrack is too fucking good
Edit: Gotta insist to veryone of you to listen Gold Coast Sunset. If heaven has a song,, that's the one.
Edit: Champagne, Jub Jub, even Babylon, they are all bangers.
I felt this too. I love Gold Coast Rhythm and Call me Manny. I wish Babylon got more love at the Oscars, but Everything Everywhere All at Once and Babylon were my two favorite movies of last year.
@@seaacow6347 Couldn't agree more. My favourite track of Babylon is Gimme. Just the pounding bass is so sick to me
I screamed right with you when I saw Paul Mescal on the list!!! He did such a phenomenal job!!! I wish Aftersun had more recognition, but I'm over the moon for Mescal.
that movie broke me in ways i didn’t even know possible 😭
@electable It was never going to be nominated so I'm not sure why your tiny mind thought it would.
Stephanie Hsu's performance is not overhyped, man, it makes the whole movie.
👏👏👏👏
she was literally the cherry on top🤌🏾
not actually, it was actually the father's performance
@@palmedor7707 different people resonate with different things. For me and a lot of others, hsu’s perfomance really connected with us.
The Stephanie Hsu disrespect!! Not like genuinely offended that performance just made me cry and is my favorite of the decade so far
EEAaO actually has my favorite score of the year. It’s exactly as chaotic and maximal and genre-bending as the movie itself is and it also really drives home all of the emotional scenes. It's really turned me into a Son Lux fan.
It was so sharp and loud at moments but at the same time it was actually quiet peaceful and moving. And to top it all off this is a life is such a beautiful song, honestly deserved.
Yeah. It’s an incredible score. I couldn’t quite believe that Karsten was talking shit about it lol
When he said glass onion instead that was wild. I don't even remember Glass onions music at all
@@5Amigos32 Glass Onion's music is great honestly, just like Knives Out's. It really fits the murder mystery vibe
I loved the score too. The melodies were simple but really emotional
I thought Puss in Boots is worth mentioning for animated picture as well but I did love Pinocchio of course
Puss in boots was definitely my favorite animated movie of the year
@@Jackthetrashcanman Same! Hope it wins ❤️
Peak in Boots is the best animated movie since Spider-Verse that I give it full 5 stars.
Puss is decent, honestly wish it came out later because now it will beat great films like Marcel and Pinocchio 🤥
@Avizanski better than decent lmao, I haven't seen marcel but pinocchios story was all over the place, not saying it was bad, but nothing perfect
calling stephanie hsu’s performance overhyped is corny as hell. especially when you’re silent o. jamie lee curtis getting a nomination for her basic role and basic performance in the same film. stephanie did an amazing job and she deserves the recognition for being a part of the trio that carried EEAAO.
the reason he brought up stephanie and not jamie is because he's someone who's big on film twitter/letterboxd where everyone is hyping stephanie a lot, especially for this (rightfully) whereas people aren't really hyping jamie in his circles, so its not possible for it to be overrated to him
I loved the movie, but I didn't think she was that good ngl.
It’s just an opinion, not every performance connects with everyone. It’s a very big performance, just not some people’s thing.
She did not carry the film, the father did. also she's the weakest performance out of those 4 EEAAO acting nominees
saying stephanie is weaker than JLC is hilarious.
Calling Stephanie Hsu's performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once "overhyped" is a wild take.
Right? Clearly he didn’t understand the importance her role was for young queer women especially young queer women of colour.
@@mercedesbt1100 He is so bizarrely flippant about Everything Everywhere All At Once in the entire video. He said there wasn't an "enemy" this season, doesn't sound like it. The unnecessary jab at Stephanie Hsu and Son Lux came across as really mean spirited.
I was most excited by her nomination! She has been snubbed and Award Shows only looked at Jamie for the Supporting Actress category, while Stephanie gave so much more imo. Happy she’s being recognized and I was really surprised by his reaction
@@Nuslerosh to me it’s very clear that just because the film wasn’t for white men (or at least that wasn’t the target audience not saying that many white men didn’t love and appreciate the film) he’s failing to see the importance of the piece and why it’s very existence and what it stands for is a giant fucking achievement for women, women of colour, and queer people, or those who feel unspecial by society. Stephanie encapsulates the entire emotion of nihilism and depression so well in her role and the fact that he “didn’t get it” doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value
@@mercedesbt1100 or maybe he didn't like it? like wtf, it is subjective yk and everything isn't about race. actually you making it ABOUT race is racist. :)
honestly i screamed for stephanie hsu, i haven't seen everything everywhere all at once, i just think it's funny that an actress from be more chill is nominated for an oscar
truly highlights the phrase “anything is possible”. but that nomination is deserved imo
you should watch it, she had an amazing performance
This is how I’m finding out that Christine/Pearl is Joy (I don’t know why I hadn’t made the connection earlier I know the actress lol)
Based on the nominations, it's so obvious the academy watched like 6 films from last year and called it a day.
They did give recognition to Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking, Living, Aftersun, The Whale, Glass Onion, Blonde, RRR
But the non existence of: Nope, The Menu, Decision to Leave, The Bad Guys (over the sea beast), The Northman was absolutely insane. Among others.
@noahhenderson3164 rrr should have been Nominated for best picture.
Decision to Leave not even getting nominated for International Feature, why they gotta do Park like that every time?
Every time? This was the first time he had come close to Oscar recognition, probably.
@@cepho8349 I know that South Korea picked another film instead of PCW's Handmaiden in 2017.
It's just odd after such a long and cherished career that he's still not been recognized by the Academy.
i respect your opinion but i think EEAAO had amazing sound. like that one scene that almost sounded like a day in the life by the beatles was the craziest audio experience ive ever had in a movie

They gave Jordan Peele one Oscar and never nominated him again.
The Oscar's hate horror. Get Out was the rare exception because it dealt with themes of race
It's because he only made one genuinely great movie.
The Batman not getting nominated for score or cinematography is absolutely foul
Sad no one appreciates Everything Everywhere all at once score, I think it was amazing and really brought out the emotional impact on the scenery
I totally disagree with your take on the everything everywhere score. that score is amazing! it fits so well and intertwines with every twist and turn the movie takes. it is also really impressive on a music theory level and the fact that that band hasn't scored a movie ever before just makes me root for it even more. I hope it wins
People don’t respect it cuz it’s not a traditional score
hard agree its so good
Hard agree! Its by far the most expansive and innovative of the year
same i was shocked when he said overhyped
I disagree
Leaving out RRR and Decision To Leave in International Feature was crazy, as well as no Danielle Deadwyler
India didn’t submit RRR
RRR would definitely been nominated if India had bothered to submit it.
Adding to the choir: it was not submitted
If RRR had been submitted it may have been nominated due to all the hype but it never would have won. The Oscars never acknowledges Indian cinema anyways, otherwise things like costume and set design would be a clean sweep every time there's a high budget Indian period piece. Also Naatu Naatu is FAR from the best music to come out of Indian cinema but I digress.
WAAAIIIT!! You dont rate EEAAO score ?? i thought it was incredble, hope it wins this category
I really hope that Brendan Fraser takes home the Best Actor Oscar. His performance was fantastic, and shows that he really can act. It's quite a comeback for him after years out of the spotlight.
Nah Paul Mescal for life
@@Stella-iW123 Fraser or Farell
The “I need to know that I have done ONE THING right with my life!” scene is great, but the part where he cries after Hong Chau yells at him for choking on his sub really got to me. Like, I loved how he cried on cue, it felt so natural.
@@Stella-iW123 it's out of luck nomination
Colin Ferrel ftw
I could not disagree more with your take on the EEAAO score. It is absolutely essential to carrying the emotional weight of every scene. It is hugely underrated and I’m happy it got the acknowledgement it deserved.
so so true
I disagree
Completely agree with you. As someone who studies film scoring, the score does a wonderful job at helping perpetuate such nuanced emotions.
THANNK YOU, as a musician i did not understand that take at all lol
the movie was not that good calm down lol can't wait for everyone to forget about this bloated trash for a film
'RRR' not being submitted by India as their Best International Feature entry is the most boneheaded move any Country has ever done....
Also, just for the hell of it, go and watch 'Mrs Harris Goes to Paris' if you're so curious about it!
Probably also France not submitting portrait of a lady on fire that was eh
@@gabrielcastaneda9700 It's not quite the same. Les Miserables was nominated for an Oscar, at least. And even if they had submitted Portrait of a Lady on Fire, it still would have lost to Parasite.
"The Northman" should have been nominated for Best Score at the very least, it has great music.
I’m honestly really upset that Danielle Deadwyler didn’t get nominated for best actress.
I’m upset they shut out the black actress from Leading Role (Davis and Deadwyler) in general
@@ev7785 calm down they just didn’t nominate her, didn’t shut her out

@@aaronahlfeldt2916 I get where you’re coming from but both Davis and Deadwyler have been nominated along the awards circuit with genuinely great performances, so it’s disappointing to se them not get noms

Leading Emmy and Oscar nominations within 2.5 years, not too shabby!
not one nomination for Nope is insane. sound & cinematography at least
Decision To Leave was my favorite movie of last year, it was so incredibly well directed and written and everyone did so well on it, biggest snub in the last few years. Also shows that Parasite was just performance for the academy
The Academy really said EEAAO and Wakanda Forever’s enough color for the Oscars this year and ignored Nope and Decision to Leave for the nominations LMAO
Honestly, I would rather nominate Aftersun and The Batman over Top Gun and Avatar for best picture. At least happy to see Paul get nominated for best actor :) JusticeForDecisionToLeave!
EEAAO had the most unique score i've heard recently, and it perfectly matched the tone of the movie.
Everything Everywhere All At Once literally has one of the best scores of 2022, it's new, it's creative and it lifts up the whole movie far better than most other predicted frontrunners
I can't explain why, but as soon as I read the nominations I felt deep in my bones that Elvis would take best picture. That's just the kind of thing the Academy is smoking these days.
That would make me very happy, but I don’t think it will happen. I’m hoping for EEAAO over Banshee.
Tar will take
I think I would be very upset if that happened!
I mean it was good I'd prefer Babylon or everything everywhere tho. Once again tho horror gets no love. Give Ari Aster the cinematography award he deserves!!
for some reason triangle of sadness means SO MUCH to me. when i first heard about the movie in early september i was enthralled with it. every moment from that day on i was researching about the film, watching sneak peaks, reviews, reading about it online, just absorbing all the information i could about it. coming from an avid ruben östlund enjoyer, i just couldn’t wait to see what he did with triangle of sadness. i even had a dream about the movie once 😭! anywho, on thanksgiving i saw the movie had come out online and when my family finally go back to our hotel from the days adventures, i watched it. i’m not sure if i was tweaking from my “walk” with the cousins or if it was a cinematic masterpiece but watching it for that first time was just magical. i’m so so happy to see it getting the recognition it deserves and i urge everyone to go watch it !! it’s without a doubt one of my top films of the year.
Oookay....
Prediction: Everything Everywhere All at Once wins everything everywhere all at once
decision to leave should’ve been nominated for international feature film, original screenplay, editing, and director.

The Northman and Nope not nominated for anything is wild af
Nope deserves every nomination
"I hope they give some love to Desition to Leave..."
That didnt aged well bruh...
the EEAO nomination i was the happiest for was for sure the best original song, because Mitski is featured and i love Mitski sm i’m so happy to see her get an oscar nom before a grammy non
The fact Nope wasn’t nominated for sound is crazy to me
I will tell you exactly what was special about Everything Everywhere All At Once’s score. It was written and performed by Son Lux completely for that movie. It was the rhythm of that film. They have taken that score and performed it live on tour and I got to see it. The passion behind the soundtrack in score are a 10/10. You can hate on a movie just because it was overhyped, but the dedication to that film being original and impactful at the same time, is incredible. It’s a beautiful movie.
Surprised you didn’t talk about Michelle Yeoh! Apparently she’s the first asian woman to ever receive the Best Actress nomination! She’s making history!
ok
I'm not. He stated multiple times in the video that EEOAO wasn't his type of movie. So naturally he wouldn't be that excited for the nominators unless one of them had a standout performance
lol he obviously doesn't know/care about EEAAO and the people who made the movie.
The fact that Decision to leave and The Northman got zero nominations is gonna keep me up for at least a couple of nights.
I wasn't expecting The Batman to get anything but when I saw that it was nomed TWICE I cackled with glee, give our emo Batman movie a silly lil award and play something in the way when they walk up to the stage!!
Karsten wondering what is so special about EEAAO’s score is a major 🅱️ruh moment
This is like a Sundance hype house. Intercut in the kitchen, Karsten trapped in the closet, Amanda floating around somewhere.
They really said "Nope, we're gonna make the decision to leave 'Decision to Leave' and 'Nope' out of the Oscars this year":(
As an Irish person, this was a great day for the parish. 40% of the male acting noms are for Irish actors, and nominations across 3 different films (Banshees, Aftersun, and Cailín Cuin)
Same here, my irish teacher brought us to see an cailín ciúin and it's the first irish language film nominated for the Oscars. Huge win for our little island
I am very happy for Ireland as a Non-Irish person.
An Cailin Ciuin is an amazing film. Someone was cutting onions in the cinema at the end of it. I honestly think Catherine Clinch gave a such nuanced performance, way beyond her years, that it wouldn't have been out of place for a best actress nomination.
I know an cailín ciúin probably doesn't stand a chance against AQOTWF but IMAGINE if it won
Don't forget about the short film An Irish Goodbye.
The Cinematography category this year was probably the easiest to pick and they still messed it up…..
I don’t even care if he wins or not, but just to see Paul Mescal get nominated was amazing
I assume you love to see the David Byrne nom in original song (even if the song isn't great)
EEAAOs score clears all the others lmao, just cuz it’s not an orchestra playing or a traditional sounding score doesn’t mean its not good
It’ll be funny as hell if Ana De Armas wins both Best Actress and Worst Actress the same weekend as the Razzies and Oscars for Blonde 💀
Ana de Armas is not nominated Razzies, the film has nominations, but no actress. Be careful.
Michel Yeoh is literally the first Asian actress to be nominated for best actress
EEAAO had an incredible score it 100% deserves the nom
5:58 Vegas by Doja Cat unfortunately wasn’t eligible because it sampled Hound Dog
The fact that The Batman didn’t get nominated for Best Score is an absolute shame. It had one of the best scores in a superhero movie in a long time! And no nods for Zoe Kravitz and Matt Reeves? How can the Academy be so shortsighted?! Also, the movie totally deserved Best Production Design AT LEAST!!

Really hopes Stephanie Tsu wins. I l loved the depth and range of her performance. Respect your opinion though, but personally resonated deeply with everything, everywhere all at once.
Okay Karsten you don't like EEAAO, we get it. Not-so-hot take, predicting Ke Huy Quan, Michelle Yeoh, and best picture for EEAAO, if not a nod to Stephanie Hsu (although predicting Angela Bassett). Stephanie deserves all the praise. Best picture could go to Banshees, but frankly hoping EEAAO takes it.
At least we agree nope was totally snubbed.
Jordan Peele snub and Park Chan-Wook snub
I’m so angry that Paul Dano did not get a nomination for best supporting actor. He’s gotten himself attacked by Daniel Day Lewis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman. He’s made dedication to every character he has played in his life, like playing a goddamn slave owner. He’s represented those, the complete opposite to him (like a trans woman), he’s portrayed psychotic obsessive behavior like none other, HE PLAYED FUCKING BRIAN WILSON! HE DEPICTED ONE OF THE BEST BIOPICS EVER. and he was absolutely fascinating in the Fablemans. He’s come so far and still has not a single nomination for an academy award.
he didnt deserve it for batman though, sadly
@@amydunnediditnow agree to disagree but i do think that every other actor in that film would have came first before Paul. I think Colin Farrell and Jeffery Wright would take the spot for nominations before Paul, which is unfortunate
I can't believe The Batman didn't get a nomination for best original score. That feels like a robbery.
I was a little upset EEAAO didn’t get nominated for makeup and hairstyling. I don’t think there’s anything that interesting or exciting about putting a man in a fat suit I’m sorry. The looks for Jobu Tupaki were actually creative and exciting which we don’t always get to see
The Northman getting ZERO nominations is brutal. First the lighthouse, and now this. Poor Robert Eggers
why am i just now learning that kazuo ishiguro is also a screenwriter 💀
What surprised me the most:
1. Decision to leave being snubbed (WHY?)
2. Andrea Riseborough being nominated (guess I'll have to watch her movie to judge whether her performance is actually good enough to beat Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis)
3. Taylor Swift being snubbed AGAIN and Diane Warren being nominated for the nth time despite everyone knowing she won't win.
4. Paul Mescal being nominated, genuinely happy for him.
5. Ruben Ostlund being nominated over Joseph Kosinski, James Cameron, Edward Berger and Charlotte Wells.
What was Taylor Swift getting nominated for? The All Too Well short film?
@@JamesLawner Original song. ATW wasn't shortlisted but her song Carolina was.
Agree with you for most of them except #3 and #5. I actually think Ruben Ostlund deserved the nomination over Joseph Kosinski and James Cameron (haven’t seen All Quiet). While I loved Aftersun (justice for Charlotte Wells), I do understand nominating Ostlund over Wells - it’s a ‘showier’ and more ‘meticulously’ (for lack of a better word) directed film. Aftersun had a more “hands off, trust the actors” approach to the directing. Not that it makes TOS more impressive than Aftersun, but it just seems like an academy thing to do. I’m personally not surprised.
I swear I am watching these reaction videos solely to see people react to "My Year of Dicks" truly one of the short film titles of all time.
Big year for Ireland, very proud
Actually glad that you mentioned the Andrea Riseborough campaign because I've never seen anything like it and I thought I was going crazy. That Edward Norton tweet is hilarious: "I don't usually talk about movies and maybe I should so here's the movie every celebrity has decided to talk about in the past week." I don't know who has orquestrated this but it's the most obvious and bizarre campaign in Oscar history and somehow it has worked for them.
AFTERSUN NATION WE WON
Triangle of Sadness and EEAAO were my faves of the year
NOPE getting completely shut out is so wild
Crazy how my two favorite movies of the year Decision to Leave and Everything Everywhere All At Once were differently received by the Academy, One was snubbed while the other was loved
Was not expecting All Quiet to get nominated for everything. Good film, just didn’t expect them to love it this much.
War movies always do absurdly well at award shows.
I hope Colin Farrell wins. Not only was Banshees his best work but he's been quetly killing it for the last couple of year and becoming one of my favourite actors working.
Unfortunately, he's up against heavyweights like Elvis and the Whale.
@@dennismclaurin1487 Yeah but Colin's character is more challenging than the other 2. It's not easy playing someone who you can laugh at and feel bad for at the same time. Also not to discredit the other 2 performances but imo, they wouldn't have worked as well without make-up and costume playing a big part in it.
Everything everywhere all at once sweep
i was upset “blonde” didn’t get more nominations. like yeah i know the film was a critical flop , but it had stellar cinematography , editing , sound , original score. that’s my opinion , or factual. 🤷🏽♂️
Shocked at the dislike for the score in EEAAO. It's easily my favorite score
